I've been back to Sichuan several times since my last review and decided to come back for an update. I've lowered it by a star since my previous review, and it is mainly because of the cost of some of their items. Overall, this place isn't cheap, but some of their items seem extremely expensive for what they are. For example, the Flaming Pork Jowl is priced at $35.99. You get so little for how much you pay. While it tastes good, I just don't think it's worth the price. Even though I think that the Tea Smoked Pork Rib at $27.99 is pricey, that is still far more worth it than the pork jowl. Another thing that bugs me is that they never seem to have their Signature Braised Duck. The price is high on that one, but I still want to try it. However, it is never available, even when I have tried to order it right when they open and at various other times of the day. Overall, though, I still really like the food here. It's always busy for a reason. Another thing to note is that ordering through Toast is the same price as in the restaurant, so that makes it easy and convenient!
Sichuan Impression serves some of the most authentic Sichuan cuisine in Los Angeles. I've visited this restaurant many times over the years, and one of my all-time favorites was the Bobo Chicken (钵钵鸡). Unfortunately, it is no longer on the menu. I really wish they would bring it back because it was one of the restaurant's signature dishes and a favorite among many customers. During this visit, I ordered the sliced pork and the jelly noodles. The sliced pork was incredibly tender, with a clean, fresh flavor that let the ingredients' quality shine. The jelly noodles were refreshing, spicy, and full of bold Sichuan flavors. The combination of heat, seasoning, and texture was simply delicious. The dessert was also surprisingly good. It reminded me of mochi, topped with puffed rice that added a pleasant crunch and contrast to the soft, chewy texture. If you're looking for authentic Sichuan food in Los Angeles, I highly recommend Sichuan Impression. The flavors are genuine, the dishes are consistently well prepared, and it's a place you really can't go wrong with.
Went in for lunch special which I'm not sure if its still going on to try a restaraunt made dry pot. The food here is good, not too msg/salt. Order with qr code (had specials) and servers are pretty good with water, may take some time for check Beef- tender beef (like cornstarch) and had some bamboo shoots, needed more wok hei String beans- fried with good flavor, slightly crunchy so very quick fry
Came here during the dine la deal. Kinda seems like they were understaffed. Had issues getting seated. Basically there were open tables during a Friday night dinner but people weren't getting seated in them. Had to go up to the host to ask about how we were 1st on the waitlist but didn't get a notif about our table was ready. Food tastes like it was some foreign chef's impression on sichuan food. Tasted decent, but not authentic.
I was craving deep-fried intestines, and after making so many calls to local Chinese restaurants, I came across Sichuan Impression, which actually had the spicy fried intestines! I was so excited to try it that I ordered the food for pickup, and it was nearly ready when I arrived. The place was well decorated, and the wait staff were all friendly. I enjoyed the food almost immediately after getting it. This restaurant really lives up to its name. The fried intestines were crispy, spicy, and definitely numbed my tongue. The celery pieces helped balance out the spices.
A shame because honestly the food was pretty good. I never leave reviews but I think this one's important and fair for all. My party has a peanut allergy and, although not super sensitive in the sense that cross contamination isn't a worrying issue, is of importance. We asked two separate workers if the PORK JOWL had peanuts, and they said no. It wasn't until said party member felt a peanut allergy did we learn that there was actually peanuts (peanut butter marinade). We don't blame the staff, as they were kind and understanding of the situation. However, this definitely reflects on management and their training. If someone were in the same situation but had a more dangerous allergy, this couldve ended differently. (Pork jowl pictured up front)
The mapo tofu here is seriously top tier and my fave! It's rich, flavorful, and perfectly numbing with that signature Sichuan spice especially with a bowl of rice! We also loved the Impressive Cold Noodles which were really addicting. We ordered the mild version and it was the perfect balance to complement the stronger, numbing flavors from the other dishes. It still had plenty of flavor without being overwhelming. One dish that kinda threw me off was the Couple's Sliced Beef. Since it's served cold, the texture of the beef felt a bit firmer and hard, and less tender than I personally prefer or expected. Overall, this is a place I can see myself coming back to multiple times a year. The flavors are bold and numbing (how it should be), the portions are generous for the price, and the whole meal just feels warm, satisfying, and comforting! This spot does get busy so make sure to check in on the waitlist ahead of time!
After late-night swim practice, the kids specifically asked for Jincheng, so we headed straight to the Tustin location. Turns out they're running a promotion right now -- talk about perfect timing They're offering a 5 full-size signature dish combo for just $78, plus three add-on dishes you can choose from. Promotion runs from 1/23-2/6 (only 15 days -- miss it and you'll have to wait another half year!) Their Sichuan food is very authentic -- no surprise since they've been Michelin-recommended for seven consecutive years. That said, it's not just spicy food here. They also have plenty of non-spicy, kid-friendly options, which makes it great for families. If you're planning a meal with family or friends, now's the time -- grab a table while the deal lasts! Don't wait until it's over and regret it later. Bonus: you can also get a free taro & sweet potato ball dessert
Some of the BEST Szechuan food I ever tasted. Restaurant looked liked any casual Chinese dining spot. Service was very quick and standard. The flavors of the food were very bold. My favorite highlights were the chicken with green Szechuan sauce and the street fries in mala seasoning. Everything was ordered in mild but did not sacrifice the mouth numbing aspect one bit. My friends and I had a silly moment trying the plum juice and with a 100% consensus found that it tasted like Carl's Jr bbq sauce lol Cant wait to come back try the other items

We went with a mild spice level, which was perfect for us, but if you're more sensitive to spice I'd recommend going one level lower. Overall, it's a solid spot for Sichuan food, and I would definitely come back.
Came in a weekday evening for dinner - there was a good amount of customers but no wait. Ordering is easy and through an app, food comes quickly. Our favorite dish was the cold chicken with chili sauce - it was so flavorful and not as spicy as it looks! Chicken was so moist as well. Also really enjoyed the fish in chili sauce - the fish was so tender and melt in your mouth. Spicy wontons were yummy too. Overall ambiance is casual and parking is very easy.
Came in on my own for dinner while in town for a work trip. This is right in my old neighborhood but was not here when I lived here. I wish it had been! Best kung pao I've ever had. This is kung pao done right. I ate the whole plate in one sitting because I just couldn't stop myself. Service was fine. I didn't need it to be more than what it was. And prices are fair. The place is packed and popular. Even as a party of 1 on a Sunday night, I had to wait 30 minutes, so keep that in mind. But I will definitely come back next trip to try the mapo tofu.
In a nutshell.. we went here looking for peppercorns and medicinal spice.. did we get it? No.. sadly everything was not as spicy and sichuan as we hoped it to be. The service was your typical Asian restaurant where they don't really look at you I. The eye and you can self order.. we did ask for a bowl of rice with a human waiter and they brought it immediately. This restaurant was in a plaza and we were able to get a bottle of water in the bodega within the same plaza. I give this place a 3.5 stars.

This spot hits every time! I've been going back to Sichaun Impression almost every month since 2022. I think I pretty much love everything on the menu. Some dishes that I recommend are the fried intestine (its so crispy and delicious), rattan pepper fish (flavorful soup), mama handmade noodles, lamb skewers, stir fried green beans, and the chicken in chili oil- just to name a few! The service is amazing- very attentive and kind. The manager is also very sweet! The ambiance of the place is nice- very spacious and neat. Overall, I always come back here when I don't know where to eat and it always leaves me so satisfied! I cannot wait to come back here again. read more
Every table has a QR code for the menu and payment. This was pretty convenient because we could add on dishes throughout the meal without having to flag down a staff member. The food also came out very quickly which was great! The staff are attentive and constantly refill your water and provide extra napkins without having to ask! Potato strips on street corner - 5/5, I love french fries! This was giving spicy cumin dried chili seasoning with cilantro. Mini lamb skewers - 5/5, the lamb pieces are so tender and this wasn't spicy! Another good app for sharing! Stir fried chili chicken - 5/5, this was giving Taiwanese popcorn chicken with mala oil and spices. This actually has a kick but is super delicious! Stir fried cauliflower - 5/5, good veggie dish + loved the garlic chips and pork lard bits in the sauce! We tried Sichuan Impression for the first time. The gentleman was kind to walk my son through the ordering kiosk process. We wanted the toothpick lamb but ended up with Mini Lamb Skewers. The Sichuan Chili peppers were excessive ratio to the tiny dry pieces of mini lamb skewers. We fished them out to be able to eat the food. The Kung Pao Chicken was delicious and flavors balanced with the steamed rice. Ma-Po Tofu was equally delicious but too spicy for our palette. We will make our own dish with sautéed ground chicken or pork, add the tofu pieces, and scallions and eat it with side of mustard greens, green beans, or baby Bok Choy. Good intro to Sichuan cuisine. It's very nice to try something new and we realized Sichuan Food is extremely spicy and needs to be balanced with a cooling accompaniment like cucumbers or greens to cool off the palate. There is ample parking in the center and a reasonable waiting period for the takeout order. Staff are friendly. read more

I'm still sweating just thinking about my experiences here! My tolerance for spicy is not the greatest, but every time Sichuan Impression has one of their special set menus (which seems to happen at least 2 or 3 times a years), I have to pay a visit. Most recently, in celebration of their 11 year anniversary, they ran a $78 combo (that serves 4-6 people) that allowed you to pick 5 courses. And the best things is that some of these selections include some of their most popular dishes. My absolute faves include: Boiled Fish with Rattan Pepper Stir-Fried Chili Chicken (although I wish their set menu includes the intestine version in addition to the chicken) Mini Lamb Skewer Tender Bamboo Shoots in Chili Sauce For the amount of food you get, it ends up not being a bad deal, especially splits amongst 4+ people. If you're into sichuan food, you can't really go wrong with any of the selections here. But if you're like me and start sweating the moment that first peppercorn hits your mouth, be sure to ask for extra napkins at the beginning! read more

$78 for 5 dishes in August of "Dine LA" is really good value for a meal. In my experience, a restaurant review system has 4 levels: Bad, Good, Nice, and Wonderful. · Bad = I'd never go back. · Good = It's fine, but nothing I'd miss. · Nice = Better than good -- I'd return someday. · Wonderful = Everything is excellent -- I'd love to come often. Oooooo I love this place! Sechuan Impression is delicious packing with great flavor and quality. I ordered 5 dishes, that being the Cucumber, cold noodle, stir-fried chicken, fish soup, and the taro rice dessert. The dishes are so flavorful and are definitely made to be shared family style. With these dishes, we even had leftovers to take home! The cold cucumber appetizer is a lightly pickled and salted cucumber that blends well if you wanted a pallet cleanser or just a refreshing bite. It has a slight bit of heat from the chili peppers which is also a great touch. The cold noodle was soo yum and was a surprise to me. I ordered it since it was a popular dish on YELP and I would say order it and let it speak for itself! The stir-fried chicken and soup were a great combination as you can double up on protein! The stir fried chicken has a perfect blend of seasoning and flavors and is most similar to better flavored/seasoned popcorn chicken in my opinion. The fish soup was also awesome and comes in a spicy or non-spicy flavor. For dessert, the taro rice is a simple, yet tasty dessert. The best comparison I could make is like an arroz con leche, but less rice and milk. Still a great refreshing dessert to end the meal! Overall, the experience was great! The staff was nice and quick to service, even helping us pack our leftovers! I will say if you come in the evening try to get yourself on the Yelp waitlist ahead of time so you get seated ahead of time ! read more
Solid Sichuan cuisine with some of the best numbing peppercorn dishes around--it keeps me coming back again and again! Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. My personal favorites are the cauliflower stir-fry, mapo tofu, and kung pao chicken. I'm not from Sichuan, but I've visited a couple of times, and let's just say when I taste authentic food, I know it. read more
When I think of the best Chinese and Sichuan food in OC, this is the real deal and my top pick. The flavors are bold, unapologetically spicy, and exactly what you'd expect from a proper Sichuan kitchen. Ive tried a lot of the items on the menu and you can't really go wrong with anything honestly. I absolutely loved the sliced beef in chili oil. I also love the Boiled Fish with Rattan Pepper; it has that signature numbing kick that makes you want to keep going back for more, even as your mouth's on fire. Portions are generous and perfect for sharing family-style. The restaurant itself has a casual but lively atmosphere--always bustling, which tells you it's the spot. Service is efficient and the staff knows the menu well, so if you're not sure how spicy to go, they'll guide you. This isn't Americanized Chinese food--it's authentic, complex, and meant for people who love spice. If you can handle the heat, you'll leave happy. read more

One of my fave sichuan places! I crave the lamb skewers and picked fish soup at least once month so bad. The service is super quick here too. I came here on a Friday got sat right away and scanned the menu and sent in our order and the food was out within minutes. I really wish there was a way to get a smaller serving dish combo that is like the fish, the lamb and the rice as a special lunch menu because sometimes the servings are so big I get so much left overs to take home. Anyways I always appreciate the consistency of food throughout all locations. read more

Ordered takeout, and was impressed with the selection and flavors of everything. The only bothersome aspects were having to order from a kiosk, so no questions being answered, and picking up the order was not at the entrance, it was in the back, but no signs saying so. I enjoyed all of the dishes I ordered and my son and I had plenty leftover. The dishes range in spice levels, and the heat is there. I'm a wimp, so I was definitely sweating. I will definitely try other items in the future. The bag for takeout is a nice touch. read more

The staff is friendly and helpful with answering questions. We ordered Stir-fried chili chicken, stir-fries beef with scallions, beef soup, and mapo tofu. Stir-fried Chili Chicken- This was packed with heat so be careful if your tolerance is on the low side. The chicken has plenty of flavor and tender. Stir-fried Beef with Scallions- This was spiced to perfection. The beef is soft and they give a generous amount of scallions. Beef Soup- This is a comforting dish for a cold day! Noodles have a good texture and the soup base has a mildness to it. They give plenty of tender beef to bulk it up. Mapo Tofu- This was a winner! The tofu has a silken texture and pairs well with the savory and spicy sauce. Every bite is bursting with flavor! Great place for authentic dishes! read more

Szechuan Impressions has long been one of those places you go when you're craving real Szechuan food--the kind that doesn't just burn, but brings that signature numbing, tingly, mouth-buzzing magic. If you know, you know. The flavors are bold, unapologetic, and not here to babysit your spice tolerance. The menu is stacked with solid options across the board--meats, fish, veggies, dry-style dishes, saucy dishes--and the food consistently delivers. Order "medium" at your own risk, because this is the kind of medium that still makes you reach for water and reflect on your life choices. What's changed over time is the vibe. This place used to be packed--easily a 15-25 minute wait on most nights, no questions asked. Lately? It's noticeably calmer, sometimes even half empty. The food hasn't fallen off, so the shift is hard not to notice. My guess: pricing. While the quality is still there, the prices feel like they never quite left the COVID-era mindset. They're not deal-breaker high, but they're high enough to make you pause, especially on some of the simpler dishes. In today's dining landscape, value matters, and this spot feels just a notch out of sync with where things are now. Bottom line: excellent Szechuan flavors, legit spice, and a menu that still hits hard. If the pricing ever comes back down to earth, this would easily return to being a wait-list favorite. Until then, come for the heat--just expect a little less crowd and a little more sticker shock. read more

Food is spectacular. Kung pao chicken is off the charts. This will be some of the best Chinese food you've ever had. You can't go wrong with anything, even though there's some very authentic selections I might not personally venture to try. Ambiance is nice, the restaurant is always busy, clean, service is FAST. High quality staff. Jason was great. I dropped a chopstick and in the time it took to turn my head he had another fresh pair ready for me. Michelin level restaurant. OMG I love coming here! Food is so flavorful and mouthwatering that even as I write this review makes me wanna go right now. Been here a few times. Food and service are great. Wait is not long at all on a weekday lunch. It's a nice open restaurant and you order your food on the phone with a QR code. Had to learn this new way but it's fine. It's all worth it!! read more
