Absolutely amazing experience with Tigawok! I ordered through DoorDash and honestly can't say enough good things about this place. From the packaging, to the color of the utensils, to the presentation and flavor of the food -- everything felt so well thought out. Even the bag the food came in gave such a fun and quality vibe. Great concept. It's basically an authentic Chinese (specifically more Cantonese or Hong Kong pallette) food version of Panda Express. You can also get samples. As you enter, you'll grab and tray and go down the food line where you can either get an a la carte bowl for an entree by itself or a 2 or 3 plate combination. I particularly enjoyed the chinese sausage (lahp cheung) fried rice option as a base (which has a small upcharge). The cola chicken and wagyu beef were flavorful but I wished the pieces of meat were a little bigger. It's diced pretty small so you may want to use a spoon to eat it. The tomato and scrambled egg was good, maybe a little on the sweet side. I wished that had more beef options other than the wagyu beef, curry beef and hunan spicy beef. The curry flavor is pretty good (goes well with steamed rice) but the meat's not as tender as I would've liked. The steamed pork dumplings (xiao long bao) weren't bad...just don't expect DTF here. They have a self-service condiment bar that has soy sauce/vinegar and small cubes of white radish at the entrance. The self-service drink area is towards the back and has sweetened and unsweetened oolong tea. They also provide lids and bags near the drink station for all of your bowls and plates in case you need to take your left overs home. Great place for quick, tasty Chinese food made by robots. I love how they change up the menu so you can always come back to try different things. I've been to a few Tigawok's and I would say getting a majority of their small plates with $2 rice is a better deal than the 3 appetizer with base at $13. I felt like they gave me more mains when I did that and I had more leftovers for the cost being just a little more...unless the worker just gave me smaller portions bc I'm a girl with the 3 appetizer lol. Regardless, taste is delicious! My favorites when they have it are: Cola Chicken, Spicy Chicken Basil (comes with string beans), and their pork belly (comes with potatoes). Great casual dining of Chinese food ala Carte when you're on the go and want to try many small options. Been here a couple of times and forgot about the review. Stopped by during their soft opening and they were out of certain items and the lines were longer. Now that they have some time to work out the kinks, things are running smooth and most items are available. With that said, that plaza is busy no matter what time of day you go. Parking can be a pain in the butt. They have a lot of different entrees to select from. I usually get a few and it'll last me 2 or 3 meals. My favorites are the orange peel chicken, the wagyu curry (has nice bit chunks of potato's and carrots and the beef is tender), the toga cola chicken is not bad, and the Wagyu mapo tofu. For the vegetables, I normally get the garlic eggplant and green beans (it has more eggplant than green beans and I'm not a eggplant fan, but its not too bad) and the other dish is the dry pot Brussels sprouts. It's relatively cheap for each dish, about $5-$7 each. It's more authentic than that other Chinese chain with the bear. Ive been back a few times now. read more

This location in Irvine shares a busy parking lot with Trader Joes, YogaSix, and Wanderlust. I've walked by many times while getting my groceries but they are usually so busy I didn't want to deal with the wait. They have a few limited half booths inside, and then plenty of tables for the plaza outside. So I really like that they have mini bowls so it really allows you to get a variety of things. Since it was my first visit I ordered a variety of things to assess their offerings. Steamed Soup Dumplings ($5.50) - These were a bit cold and no soup inside, a bit bland. Not too excited for these. Chilled Garlic Broccoli ($3.99) - Probably the healthiest item on their menu. I really enjoyed the garlic sauce on the broccoli. Sweet Tomato and Scrambled Eggs ($4.99) - A simple dish but a dish I really enjoy when I see it on the menu. Garlic Eggplant and Green beans ($3.99) - I love eggplants and it's a treat having it, but the execution of this dish was a bit oily. Red Braised Pork Belly with Potato ($7.99) - I couldn't resist trying this, and it was really good. It's not as soft and tender as typical braises, but the flavors were there. At the time I came, some of the items I wanted were out, and they were able to give me an ETA so I waited. This is a pro and a con in itself. It sucks when stuff runs out but it also shows that the food churn quickly and you get fresh food. I had plenty of leftovers to take home and eat for 2 more subsequent meals with brown rice I had at home. A great spot for inexpensive eats but not a great spot for a diet. Seating is limited but there are tables outside for dining. It was actually quite busy in the plaza during our second visit. Luckily we were able to grab a table immediately. To the back of the space you'll find an all gender restroom to your left. The fountain beverages, teas, condiments, utensils, napkins, to-go containers and bags to your right. I noticed that they were running out of food here and there fairly quick. I don't know if they're really just that busy, or if they make smaller portions at any give time. What we ordered; 1) kurobuta pepper pork - this has a kick to it. Nice and spicy but not hot. My kids and I loved this one a lot. We ended up having to go back for more. 2) garlic eggplant and green beans - this was another really good one for us. I wish I had gone back for more of this veggie dish. It was really good. I had tried this at the event but not sure why I didn't think to double up on this. 3) pork belly - this kept running out. We ended up having to wait a while for this to be done. Price can vary as there's no "set" price for an entree it just depends on what entree you get. Tigawok is a new, expanding fast-food Chinese restaurant chain that focuses on selling mini-bowls of entrees for $4 to $7. You point and order what you want, cafeteria-style. My wife and I shared bases of chow mein and steamed rice with three mini-bowls and we definitely had enough leftovers for the next day. Items like Chow Mein and Orange peel chicken are familiar and reminiscent of what you'd find at a Panda Express. Items like wagyu mapo tofu, pepper kurobuta pork, and braised pork belly are dishes that you'd see at proper Chinese restaurants. To this end, they have some "wagyu chili sauce" that goes with a lot of their dishes that need a boost of spice or acidity. One of their unique quirks are their use of automation and robot woks to prep their signature dishes. I wondered whether it was a gimmick; however, the food was actually really good, and the portions were at unbeatable price points. Is Tigawok better than my favorite Chinese spots? It did remind me of when you get food at the IKEA restaurant, where you slide your tray down on the counter as you let the staff know which items you'd like. They'll hand you the bowls of food, and you just put them on your tray and then pay at the end of the line. My total for both items was just under $10, which is affordable considering how expensive and overpriced everything is nowadays. Place is clean and well-lit in a busy high foot traffic for safety plaza. For that, I think that this place deserves more credit. After having tried Tigawok for the very first time through a Yelp Elite perk and loving it, I decided to revisit this past weekend. This time around, I was pretty frustrated with my experience. I think their 2 to 3 item bowls are a newer thing because I don't see any photos of that here on Yelp and don't remember that being a thing the last time I was here. It is super confusing when you order the bowl instead of just picking your base and sides and paying for them individually. There were so many "exceptions" and pricing differences when ordering the bowl. They charge extra for "premium" items if you order it in the bowl. The problem is, they have a million different type of pricing for every side, so depending on which side you pick, it's a different premium price. The type of base you choose to go with the bowl is also a different upcharge. I was pretty frustrated because it was confusing and it really seemed like the bowl wasn't a good "deal" that they made it out to be. After all that explanation, the fried rice that we were willing to pay an upcharge for was sold out and we had to wait. I lost it at this point and just wanted to hurry through and get out. The food is tasty. I ordered all the same things I did the first time I was here with one new side dish I didn't try before - Hunan Spicy Beef ($7.99). This thing was expensive for how much it was filled with chilis instead of beef and celery. Also, unless you are eating the chili directly, I did not find this dish to be spicy. You're better off with the Spicy Basil Chicken ($5.99). At the end, where you get your drinks, lids, etc., it's a mess. Sauces and liquids are all over the counter. There was no place to set my tray down without getting wet and dirty. I wanted to give this place four stars, but the more I think about how confusing their pricing is and how frustrated I was, I decided to lower my rating. GARLIC EGGPLANT AND GREEN BEANS: The eggplant is quite soft/mushy, but if you like eggplant then give this one a try. 5/5 WAGYU MAPO TOFU: I don't typically eat mapo tofu so I don't have a good baseline, but I thought it was good. Everything was under $5-6 for a relatively large serving. You could get a combo for $12-13 which includes rice, protein, broccoli with garlic (4/5) and a drink. I don't think you save a significant amount of money by getting a combo, probably translates to a free drink or a dollar or so off. My favorites were the orange chicken and the green beans and eggplant. We also had the pepper pork (3.5/5 stars). I'd skip the XLB, at $5.50 for 3 it felt not too great and the buns are just good if you're craving buns nothing out of this world. I'd come back for the other proteins dishes. The novelty hasn't worn off! The staff are nice and efficient at serving you. They also give you lids for your bowls and you can wash and reuse the bowls the food comes in. My first visit here definitely won't be my last! From the moment you walk in, you're guided through a fun and easy ordering process--starting with your base and entrée, then moving down the line to choose exactly what you want. It's simple, interactive, and lets you customize your meal just the way you like it. The food was absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. I loved every single bite! My daughter wanted something quick and small before heading to a school musical performance, Tigawok came out as one of the options on route. We arrived around 5:45pm and thought the place seemed empty. Well, I spoke too soon. Right when we picked out our dishes and paid, there was a fleet of people lining up to come in. The indoor tables were quickly filling up. Like me, a lot of the people were first time customers and fascinated by what they have to offer. A lot of people asked for samples. We were a little pressed for time so just went with what we thought looked good. We were going to get the rice but seeing the chow mein was a decent portion we decided not to get the rice. We picked kung pao chicken and pepper kurobuta pork. Both dishes were super spicy but very flavorful! I especially enjoyed the fresh peanuts in the kung pao chicken. Tigawok is a cafeteria style Chinese restaurant offering mini-bowls. Think of it as an upscale Panda Express with robot-assisted cooking to help control the quality of food. The bowls are environmental friendly and to go bags here are super fancy. Their condiment station includes radishes and chili sauces. Bowl pricings range from about $4 to $7 and items switch from week to week. Some of my favorite ones were the zesty shredded chicken ($6) and orange peel chicken ($5). I can handle spicy dishes but found their kung pao chicken ($6) to be a bit too spicy. The hunan spicy beef ($7) was way above my threshold. Another really good veggie dish was the garlic eggplant and green beans ($4). Overall I was impressed with the cleanliness, service and a few of the items. I really wish they offered more beef and chicken options that weren't so spicy. Many dishes had pork so my options were limited as I don't eat it. I also try and avoid fried items, but will have it on occasion. I usually get 2 bowls or sometimes 3 bowls if I'm hungry. read more
