This is my new favorite Chinese food place! Tigawok reminds me of Panda Express, but the food tastes more authentic, less "westernized". Also, their food is cooked by robots! It's cafeteria style, which I love because I can see the actual food choices. I chose a few mini bowls, each with a different dish. Prices were very reasonable, mostly in the $5 to $7 range. My favorites were the egg plant with beans and scrambled eggs with tomato. The food portions are well portioned and there is a to-go area with boxes and bags. Decor was very neat and modern. Service is still horribly slow. Food took 25minutes to be made from time of payment to it being ready. Craziest part is the item was scrambled eggs with tomatoes. No clue how it takes 25minutes to cook eggs. I asked at the 20minutes mark and they said it would take 4mire minutes. We also had to wait for honey walnut shrimp, mapo tofu and soup dumplings but they were ready from 2-10minutes. Sure you may think "hey at least it's fresh" but no way it that 4 out of 6 items had to waited for, especially 25minutes for scrambled eggs. All their garbage can are overflowing. While waiting in line, I took a peek in the back only to find out the kitchen had robots functioning off ai preparing the food which was really new to me but curious to try. After a couple bites, the I realized that the food was extremely greasy and pretty salty :/ The veggies i had were flimsy/soggy and had a fishy taste that seemed really off to me (product contains 0% fish), as for my spicy beef the meat was tender but underneath lied a huge unsettling pool of grease. I got a really really bad stomach ache after this encounter. As for the service, the young ladies working here were so so sweet and helpful, guiding me with portion sizes while maintaining positive attitudes and amazing smiles! They got places for you to sit down and eat but it seems like a lot of customers will order it and leave. They have a wide selection ranging from rice, noodles, to tofu, chicken, beef, etc. I've ordered over half of their options at this point and haven't found a single disappointing option. There's something for everyone here. The one thing I'd like to point out is how they package their food. At first glance, it looks like there isn't much for the amount you're spending. Ok I just got to bump this up to 5 stars now. We pick up food here almost every week. Delicious food and such a steal! I think we pay like ~$40 for our dishes and that feeds us 3 meals each! We love most of their offerings. I think the basil chicken is relatively new and that is a knockout! I can also tell they've been listening to feedback. Had to check out the hype. I've never been able to make it to their original Sawtelle location. The new spot runs like a well-oiled machine. My order came out right on time, and the whole operation feels efficient. I'm still firmly in the Panda Express camp for the best orange chicken. This version isn't bad, but it doesn't come close for me. I also got the beef and minced pork rice bowl was genuinely really good. The braised sauce mixed into the rice was a homerun. I've been to a few Tigawok's and I would say getting a majority of their small plates with $2 rice is a better deal than the 3 appetizer with base at $13. I got the 2 entree bowl for $10.99. The chow mein is full of veggies which I absolutely love and the noodles have a good bite to them. The basil chicken is very flavorful and has the perfect amount of heat. The eggplant-green beans is outstanding, perfect balance of crunchy beans and soft perfectly cooked eggplants. Tigawok is a new modern Chinese cafeteria style fast food concept that is like a nicer version of Panda Express, but with touch of eco friendly containers. This location in Irvine shares a busy parking lot with Trader Joes, YogaSix, and Wanderlust. I've walked by many times while getting my groceries but they are usually so busy I didn't want to deal with the wait. They have a few limited half booths inside, and then plenty of tables for the plaza outside. So I really like that they have mini bowls so it really allows you to get a variety of things. Since it was my first visit I ordered a variety of things to assess their offerings. Steamed Soup Dumplings ($5.50) - These were a bit cold and no soup inside, a bit bland. Not too excited for these. Chilled Garlic Broccoli ($3.99) - Probably the healthiest item on their menu. I really enjoyed the garlic sauce on the broccoli. Sweet Tomato and Scrambled Eggs ($4.99) - A simple dish but a dish I really enjoy when I see it on the menu. Garlic Eggplant and Green beans ($3.99) - I love eggplants and it's a treat having it, but the execution of this dish was a bit oily. Red Braised Pork Belly with Potato ($7.99) - I couldn't resist trying this, and it was really good. It's not as soft and tender as typical braises, but the flavors were there. At the time I came, some of the items I wanted were out, and they were able to give me an ETA so I waited. This is a pro and a con in itself. It sucks when stuff runs out but it also shows that the food churn quickly and you get fresh food. I had just gone to an event at Tigawok but the kids asked to go back again, so I had to bring them. Tigawok, is setup like a cafeteria. The restaurant is bright and clean inside. Seating is limited but there are tables outside for dining. It was actually quite busy in the plaza during our second visit. Luckily we were able to grab a table immediately. To the back of the space you'll find an all gender restroom to your left. The fountain beverages, teas, condiments, utensils, napkins, to-go containers and bags to your right. I noticed that they were running out of food here and there fairly quick. I don't know if they're really just that busy, or if they make smaller portions at any give time. What we ordered; 1) kurobuta pepper pork - this has a kick to it. Nice and spicy but not hot. My kids and I loved this one a lot. We ended up having to go back for more. 2) garlic eggplant and green beans - this was another really good one for us. I wish I had gone back for more of this veggie dish. It was really good. I had tried this at the event but not sure why I didn't think to double up on this. 3) pork belly - this kept running out. We ended up having to wait a while for this to be done. Although I liked this, it's a bit sweet, so it wasn't a fave. 3) our base was chow mein and rice. The food was good even with their serving style and the price point was actually pretty decent. My wife and I shared bases of chow mein and steamed rice with three mini-bowls and we definitely had enough leftovers for the next day. Items like Chow Mein and Orange peel chicken are familiar and reminiscent of what you'd find at a Panda Express. Items like wagyu mapo tofu, pepper kurobuta pork, and braised pork belly are dishes that you'd see at proper Chinese restaurants. To this end, they have some "wagyu chili sauce" that goes with a lot of their dishes that need a boost of spice or acidity. One of their unique quirks are their use of automation and robot woks to prep their signature dishes. I wondered whether it was a gimmick; however, the food was actually really good, and the portions were at unbeatable price points. Is Tigawok better than my favorite Chinese spots? I wouldn't say that; however, it's a great fast-food option with filling portions of meat, rice, and vegetables, at a reasonable price. My total for both items was just under $10, which is affordable considering how expensive and overpriced everything is nowadays. Now that they have some time to work out the kinks, things are running smooth and most items are available. With that said, that plaza is busy no matter what time of day you go. Parking can be a pain in the butt. They have a lot of different entrees to select from. I usually get a few and it'll last me 2 or 3 meals. My favorites are the orange peel chicken, the wagyu curry (has nice bit chunks of potato's and carrots and the beef is tender), the toga cola chicken is not bad, and the Wagyu mapo tofu. For the vegetables, I normally get the garlic eggplant and green beans (it has more eggplant than green beans and I'm not a eggplant fan, but its not too bad) and the other dish is the dry pot Brussels sprouts. It appears that food is prepared well in advance using plenty of seed oil and spices and warmed in metal tray until served. We felt bad almost right away after eating.
