Chicken and Waffles $20 plate I wanted a good breakfast, so I decided to be a first time guest at the Showroom. It unfortunately, was not the best choice for me on this day. First, I couldn't get past the plate full of peppers on top of the chicken thigh which seemed like it had been refried. The crust wasn't even attached to the chicken and was very hard. The waffle was a decent size, no frills, and the syrup was the best item on the plate. Overall, I was pretty disappointed. I ate about 3 bites and was done. It wasn't even a 1/4 of the meal. I let the server know my concerns with the plate. No manager came to ask about my experience. When a person sends back almost an entire plate of food, inquiry mind managers should want to know why. I'll stick with Dutches Daughter from now on when I want an "above the rest" breakfast "brunch" experience. read more

Our experience was exceptional! The food was ready as soon as I pulled up to curbside and called the number. The lady was very quick and friendly during the handoff. As for the food, it was amazing! We had the burger and cheese steak with duck fat fries. After about 20 minutes of driving, I was VERY surprised how fresh the food still was. Most other places it would've been soggy or not as fresh. Food was a 10/10. We got a Reuben and upgraded to duck fat fries. It was the best Ruben I ever had. It was moist and had the perfect amount of everything. So this place used to be Family Meal and sadly despite the menu similarities this place couldn't carry the torch. I don't want to bash Born and Raised because I know how hard it is for restaurants right now, but I want to encourage them to find a way to elevate these dishes the way Family Meal did. Fried chicken went from being some of the best I've ever had to a tasteless over salted completely boring dish. The biscuits were hard, the sauce was just cheap hot sauce mixed with cheap honey. The rest of the dishes we had were UNDER salted. The fries should have been fried longer (crispier), burger was bland, and the salmon was the worst of them all. No salt, topped with scary looking broccoli and 2 globs of incredibly unappetizing purplish substance like the color of liver mousse, I thought it might have been mushroom cream or pate, but it was caper butter. My advice is please tweak that dish immediately, no one will want that. Get rid of that green ninja turtle sauce on the spinach too. I could go on but it's just making me sad. Tweak these recipes and blow your customers away like Family Meal did. read more

Stopped in last night for a late dinner and were duly impressed! The venue is open and cute and the service was friendly and attentive. I had the Manhattan and let me tell you the pour was no DC $15 cocktail that is gone in two sips - plus it was tasty - loved the cinnamon stick! We shared the wedge salad and ordered the 1/2 fried chicken based on our server's recommendation. I am new to the area, and I've only visited Showroom twice so far. Both times, the food was delicious and steaming hot. The duck fat fries and duck fat hashbrowns were amazing! Service was good. This place never disappoints. We were here when it was Family Meal, but the hits just keep on coming. The Whiskey business drink was fantastic. The Bryan Burger was terrific even though I get it without bread. Follow up with Apple Fig pie and ice cream and you'll not be hungry upon leaving. HEALTH INSPECTION NEEDED ASAP! A FLY flew out of my to-go box! I spent $189.90 ($15 tip) on a to-go order for the most disgusting experience of my life. 1st to go box had a live fat fly in it, 2nd had a thick finger length hair, 3rd had a bite out of the burger, 4th had spoiled pot pie fritters, plus grayish eggs, and a missing iced tea. When the order was picked up there were 4 out of 5 drinks handed to my Mother with no drink holder. The girl had an attitude and couldn't be bothered. Thankfully she had someone with her otherwise how was she supposed to leave with 4 drinks and the food bags? I call the manager, he apologizes, offers to recook the food and delivery it personally but I said no thank you, why would I want to eat anything from that kitchen? I was super nice so of course he didn't take it seriously. He offered me a $25 gift card (which was insulting after what I'd experienced), told me he'd call door dash for my refund, and that he'd get back to me asap BUT NEVER DID. My Mom left a 1 star review the same day because of the treatment she received (she's super nice and never complains about anything) and without even knowing what I had experienced with the order. The owner Dennis Hoffmann commented under her rating and asked for her to email or call him to make this right. I emailed and called with NO RESPONSE. I literally eat out everyday and I've experienced some horrible food at some sketchy places but I have NEVER experienced anything this disgusting before in my life. I might as well have gotten McDonald's for $15 and gotten better quality. It was as though the "food" was thrown in the trash, taken back out, and served to us. I have ordered delivery from them a lot of times recently and every time there was at least one thing missing. I never complained, I let it go, it wasn't that serious. THIS, this was mind blowing! And then I tried to be nice and not leave a negative review giving them a chance for a few days to rectify this situation. Nothing from the manager or co owner. Thanks to them I will never eat out again, not joking, that's how bad it was, I've been scared straight. It's something you'd maybe expect from a street meat vendor in another country. First time at SHOWROOM; my wife and I stopped in for a Friday drink and brunch around 3 o'clock. There were a lot of staff on hand preparing for the evening crowd; I'll return in the evening and let you know how that is. Dan, the manager, was up front and took us right to a table, and our server, Den, was right behind him. Den was extremely knowledgeable and made excellent suggestions. His description of the Caramel Apple Brown Ale was spot on. I had a flight of their SHOWROOM ales, and they were all deliciously unique. Solid 4-5 stars. Attentive service, plenty of parking. Somewhat odd location, but worth finding. It's a casual, diner-style joint, with above-average food at a reasonable price. We started with Chicken Pot Pie Fritters which were delish, piping hot, and infinitely gobble-able! The fried chicken main is just about the best value on the menu as far as I can tell, although looking around other portions were equally as generous and the burgers look amazing! When they say half a chicken, they mean literally half of a huge fried chicken! The meat is succulent and juicy and the batter is crispy and crunchy - basically everything you could want with fried chicken. It comes with two beautifully baked biscuits. I would have like to have had butter with them. The main does come with hot honey that you could use on your chicken and biscuits but I don't have a sweet tooth so would have liked a pat of budder with my meal, but that's just nit-picking when considering how good the meal was overall. They did let us know at one point that the kitchen was a little backed up, but that wasn't a problem for our table because we were in no hurry at all and took the opportunity to catch up. The duck fat fries are indulgent but definitely worth the cholesterol! If this place wasn't a hike for me to get to, I would probably be eating here at least a couple of times per week. read more

As usual, the food did not disappoint, but the service was really bad. They appeared to hire a lot of new staff, as I didn't recognize most of them.. the waiter we had was very slow and simply forgot to do several things. One guest asked for more coffee, which never came. I ordered a beer which i had to ask for several times, and finally came when we were 75% done with our meal.... He gave my wife the check, and she promptly put her card out only to wait and wait for him to pick it, which he did only after I waved him over... just plain slow, bad service. read more

Short version: It's ok. Detailed version: I waited to write a review until I had been here a number of times. I have been here at various times of the day and have sat both inside and in the outside area. First, the bathroom. It is not particularly clean. One time is gross enough, but the second time, visiting again after about 3 months, they were still dirty. And, I do mean STILL. The bathrooms need a deep clean. I really don't want to see dirt collected along the top of tiling, in corners and in the sinks. It makes me wonder what the kitchen situation is. Tonight, we came again after going to a show in D.C. We had a reservation, and the place was packed. We were seated immediately, which was nice since we were 20 minutes early, but we were seated in the outdoor area. This area reminds me of someone's makeshift outdoor area in their backyard or their garage, not a section of a supposedly upscale restaurant. Only one half of this outdoor area has enough lighting to allow you to read the menu easily, and it's just kind of a crappy atmosphere compared to the inside area. I always thought they would eventually fix it up, but it has stayed the same since it opened. We ordered the Showroom's own brew, but they were out. They only have 3 or 4 of their own beers on the menu to begin with, so it seems they shouldn't run out. We ordered the onion rings as an appetizer, and they were delicious but not hot. I had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were well cooked, but again, it wasn't hot. My husband had he Reuben, and, you probably see where this was going, not hot, and also the bread was soggy. Also, the serving of chips alongside the sandwich was laughable. We literally laughed at it because it was, like 4 whole chips and a bunch of crumbs. One of the servers (not our own server--he never came by to check on us) agreed that the small amount of chips did look funny on the plate. She then brought us a serving of chips that was the actual serving size. Additionally, we received one small glass of water at the beginning of the meal and no refills. We have had much better service at other times. At this point, I am bored with the menu and there is nothing to entice my husband and I to come back. read more

The kale Caesar salad was tiny, they gave us the wrong dressing, and they forgot two of the three sides that, according to the online menu, are supposed to come with the kids' burger.
