I've been here many times but usually for breakfast, which has always been great. Also, great service. Went for lunch the other day and was greatly disappointed. Service was quick, but no one came by to ask if everything was OK. It wasn't. I ordered a chili dog with onion rings. The chili was gross and worse, the oil the onion rings were fried in was old. Rarely do I leave reviews and I avoid leaving bad reviews, especially given COVID, but this place should be avoided. Ordered a breakfast burrito that came cold. When I sent it back, they nuked it the microwave which made the outside of the burrito warm but was still cold inside. It also cooked the avacado and dried out the potatoes on the side. I go to Shorty's once a week or so. The waffles are the best I've ever had. The biscuits and gravy are fantastic. Whatever you do, order a side order of a sausage patty with whatever you order. It's the best sausage I've ever had. And I'm way into sausage. The owner chased me into the street out to my car with my sunglasses when I left them in the booth. He was relatively receptive to the hug I gave him. I should have warned in that I was coming in hot with a hug. The servers are all lovely, kind and almost perfect. read more

I used to love this place when I lived here in 2010. While the fun decor has stayed the same, the quality of the food and service have declined miserably. Our server was not just disinterested, but entirely rude the whole time. When I requested no tomato in an omlet, she rolled her eyes and huffed "K, whatever. Are you done?" and walked away from the table without taking my husband's order, and actually stomped her foot when we called her back to take his order. Both orders were wrong, and we were told to "Pick out the stuff you don't like". Halfway through our meal, our drinks ran out and our server never refilled them. Instead, we watched her lean against a wall and play on her phone till it was time to bring us the check. The food was cold, and improperly cooked, and the service was a NIGHTMARE. Definitely will not be returning till the kitchen gets their act together and that server is gone. Its a pity. The food isn't half bad for taste and the place has a lot of potential. An icon of the Wood River Valley, this is a place to definitely have breakfast when in town. A true old time diner with a small jukebox at each table. Great service with a smile and very yummy American style breakfasts. I had the skillet which is a layer of yummy flavors including green tamales and bacon, potatoes, green onions and eggs on top. My family and I visited this town last week and were recommended Shorty's from some friends who live in Bellevue. Once we got our table, it took good 15 min for someone to bring us waters. This server didn't even greet us or anything. After the waters were served, it took another 10 min for another server to take our order. By the look in her face, she was not pleased to be helping us. Once the food arrived (another 15 min) everything was cold. Not warm, it was cold as ice. The eggs, the bacon, the pancakes. They never checked on us for refills or to see how the food was. Hailey is a lovely little town. This seems to be its most popular (only?) brunch spot. I ordered the eggs benedict, and was disappointed: the eggs were dreadfully overcooked, and the service was inattentive--our water glasses needed refilling and the waitress never asked whether we were alright. It was only when we _flagged_ someone down (the owner?) that I managed to get a replacement for the eggs benedict, which was ... still terrible. They refunded the price of my non-eaten meal, but I consider the ability to make eggs to a particular consistency a key competency of a breakfast/brunch place, and it seemed to be sorely lacking. Plus one star because my dining companions found their meals edible, if not particularly good. read more

My family and I decided to stop by and have a bite to eat as we were passing through Hailey. Sadly, none of us liked our meals. My mom said her food had a metallic taste and my dish- the veggie omelette with potatoes and toast, all tasted like it was quickly thrown together as everything but the egg was slightly undercooked. My husband had the chicken fried steak and he said that he kept having to add salt because it had no flavor. Great 50's theme diner in downtown Hailey. Had a chef salad and it was large and in charge. Very fresh. Service was amazing. The owner was friendly and very engaged with ensuring the customers were getting what they needed. Also had a patty melt with cheese on it and it tasted great. Black/white/green/yellow checkerboard tile and lots of 50's era car bumpers up in the wall. Check it out! The servers were awesome, very attentive. It was nice to be able to talk directly to the owner at the counter. Very friendly and very hands on with ensuring his guests are taken care of. I wanted to share my experience with Shorty's Diner. I had Breakfast Saturday Morning. We were greeted by Jeremy the Owner making us feel me very Special. Our Server was extremely attentive. Our Breakfast was Delicious! Eggs cooked Perfect. We could not have had a Better Experience. All the servers including Jeremy were working so hard and moving so gracefully. It's been difficult for Restaurants and Businesses to keep up with the influx of Tourism and the new Residents moving to our Valley. We should be grateful and be appreciative that Restaurants and Businesses are working twice as hard due to the lack of Staff to serve Us. Took a 14 mile bike ride to go to Hailey for brunch. We sat outside. Great service. Inside is just like a 50s diner. I had the special of the day...California eggs Benedict, my other friend had the veggie omelette and my other friend had the regular eggs Benedict. My packed eggs were not runny, they were more cooked than most like but perfect for me since I don't like runny. Everything was ok. Not bad. Cute place, good service, average food. Great 50's style atmosphere and good service. I had a chef salad. Entire salad was pre cubed small portion of processed meat/s. I hate food that must come out of five gallon frozen buckets. I travel A LOT and expected much more from a great old style cafe. My partner was with me and had a 'so so' sandwich. I'm all over the western cities of every size and location. Don't give me it's near Sun Valley Ski Resort so it cost's more and you get less. I live near the finest Olympic Ski Resorts in the country in Utah. Normally a lunch for two from a 'good ol boys' diner would be in the $20 range and would have more than enough quality fresh food. Guess I prefer real strips of meat on the salad rather than those tiny kinda taste like meat mini cubes of boloney type 'something'. Meal was $25.00 (25% more money than average for a small town old cafe) Portions were easily 30% less Quality AT LEAST 30% less I am there just 4 times a year but will mention the fact to many. read more

Went to Shorty's for breakfast today. It is a really cute place with good service and great food. Big portions though! We shared the Chili Omelet special and an order of French Toast. The Chili Omelet was terrific (but big!)...it was fluffy and the Steak chili was delicious! They have fantastic sourdough toast too! The French Toast was made with a cinnamon swirl bread and was terrific as well. Very good place for breakfast. read more
