I'm a Yankee looking for some good ole Texas BBQ... I have found Shorty's and am glad I did.

Solid barbecue, it's in a bit of a random spot right off 80, which made us think it had to be good holding its own just off the highway. We were right. The pulled pork and brisket sandwiches were great, and their barbecue sauce was perfect. They have a great outdoor seating area that we will be utilizing in the fall. Well done Shorty's. read more

Happened to be in the mood for BBQ (a never ending mood) and decided to give this spot a try. The owners have converted an old gas station into cool little BBQ joint, and I love the atmosphere of places like this! My wife had the rib plate and I got a pound of sliced brisket, both of which came with huge side servings of coleslaw and potato salad. The ribs were super delicious and extremely tender. The sliced brisket was a bit on the dry side but still had great flavor. I'm a bit of a brisket "snob" so I'm extremely picky when it comes to this cut of meat. I asked for it "sliced and moist," which means it should have come from the point. I'm sure mine was cut from the flat because it was so lean. With all of that being said, overall, I really liked this place and I'll definitely be back to try it again! read more

Lived here for two years before wandering in on a whim not too long ago and finding this treasure. Shorty's is absolutely fantastic BBQ! Looks like an old gas station and has a funky Texas-themed decor. You can smell the deliciousness from the highway, but once you get inside your mouth just starts watering. The staff? Great people, really! Also, they don't skimp on the servings either - a pretty darn good value too. So glad I found Shorty's!!! read more

Mmmmmm, BBQ! This place is really cool. A converted gas station with good decor for the area, right on I-20. I went here with some co-workers and we were hungry. My two co-workers got three meat plates and I got the Southern Slaw sandwich with pork. We were all very satisfied. Great customer service as well. I highly recommend this place!! read more

I'm a BBQ snob, maturities is one of my favorites in the local area. Their sides are very good and they do a good job with their ribs. Brisket is pretty good as well. I wouldn't say it's outstanding, but it barbecue rarely is. read more

Well, from the outside, we weren't sure whether they were open or not. It looked like it was run down, but once we got into the parking lot we knew it was the place. The lady was friendly and very welcoming! The prices were decent and the food was good. The BBQ sauce lacked something, not sure what, but it was missing something. The potato salad and coleslaw were delicious. I would be back, most definitely. read more

We have visited Shorty's numerous times and it is our go to place for BBQ. I have tried all the different meats and never had a bad meal here. My wife and daughter really love their mac and cheese, but as far as sides, I love their cowboy beans. The staff is always friendly and very welcoming. To boot, it's close to our home. read more

The wife and I went to Shorty's for the first time yesterday. It won't be the last time. The BBQ is exceptional, but what puts this place over the top is the quality of everything else. i am picky when it comes to BBQ but this place is pretty dam good ....the owner was super friendly the food was excellent ....our 1st visit the owner even gave us 2 brisket fat sandwich's because he saw we had ''country dog'' in the truck with us and since then he always asks if we want a couple of fat sandwich's for our pup....wife usually gets a loaded potato which is awesome an i got chopped beef also excellent...we have been back a half dozen times since our 1st visit an its been dam good EVERY time.....its a helluva lot better than the sh%T house soul mans BBQ in Forney ! read more

We've passed this place often, coming and going from shopping trade days in Canton, and finally stopped for lunch on the way home this weekend. Not sorry that we did, but I don't know that we will visit again. We both had the chopped brisket sandwich with chips & drink. Meat was good, but not great. Sauce was good, but not great. Ditto for the lemonade. No regrets, but the BBQ Bar is set pretty high by our favorite haunts in North Texas. read more

The first time I ate here it was so good I came back three days later. The second trip I went about ten minutes before close, I order a pound of brisket and it was completely fat. I couldn't eat it. It's a convenient location for me. It's on my way home from work. One of the only complaint I have is that it closes at 2 on Mondays and I'm usually not off until eight. Texas Stuffed Baked Potato is the best in Dallas. Beef is great and potato taste is great. The Ribs are really great too.

Shorty's BBQ is awesome. The sandwich specials are a great deal; plenty of meats (your choice of beef, pork, ham, chicken, hot links or bologna) at an affordable price. Sweet and Lemonade are both great. The beans are awesome. Got a huge piece of pecan pie for dessert; we split it 3 ways....plenty for all. Sitting is a little sparse due to size of room. This is a stretch rating. I really pull for a mom and pop place to succeed but I can't think of any positives from our experience here. First time eating at Shorty's BBQ, and I will make sure it's not my last! I stopped here on my lunch break when working in the area, and I was happily surprised with the good food. I had the loaded baked potato and it was fantastic! It was so big that I could only eat half of it. The brisket that was served on the potato had a great smoke flavor.
