GodMom wanted to celebrate her 70th birthday weekend with close fam and relatives. She handpicked this place for it and boy, did we have a great time! She reserved 6 cabins to fit her entire party, so fam pretty much monopolized the entire area. The bench and tables came in handy during feeding time. It's only a few seconds' walk to the lake, and if that's not your thing, there's also a well-kept pool available. There's a playground for kids as well. There are charcoal grills for use if needed. The cabins are dated and rustic, but that's just part of this place's character. It's fully equipped with everything you need - towels, soap, extra sheets and blankets included. The overall interior decor gave off a 70's-80's vibe. Not complaining - just describing it on a personal level. They should consider doing a few upgrades, though (hopefully without having to raise their rates!) PET PARENTS: Dogs are allowed but there is a fee. (I believe it was $35/night.) But it's the bonding and building family memories that I appreciated most. And this place was truly a good one to do it at. We had a wonderful time! read more

I had 9 separate cabins rented from June 15th to 21st for a family reunion vacation. We have been renting in Big Bear for over 50 years and this was our 2nd stay at Shore Acres Lodge. Our next trip will likely require 10 to 14 cabins. We love the rustic casual aspect of Shore Acres for our quickly expanding extended family. If a place is too nice, we worry about all the children running around. That being said, there are some clear maintenance issues that need to be addressed. There were issues with the plumbing. Shower heads that were split and sprayed out the side. Or the rain shower heads that are designed for higher water pressure, so they weren't very efficient. My personal cabin, 110 Lakefront needs new faucet canisters in the shower. It was nearly impossible to get a reasonable temperature. You had to tap the cold faucet in order to change the temp one way or another. It was too sensitive to turn. Many of the windows in various units didn't open at all or wouldn't stay open. Or the screens were damaged, allowing insects to fly in. This made it difficult to cool off the cabins in the evenings. 109 lakeside had a mini split A/C that didn't even work. The coffee maker in our unit 110 lakfront had not been cleaned and was full of old coffee. The new ceiling fans with lights have a setting that turns the lights on and off randomly. It's called an away setting for security purposes. The problem though is the remote isn't clear on how this is turned off and on. So, the lights were constantly turning on and off randomly forcing us to just not use the fan and light. The grassy area in front of 110 lakefront is the area where we like to all put out our chairs to relax together and look out at the lake while the kids play. This area has some deep ruts and trenches from vehicles driving through in the mud. It's since hardened causing a dangerous tripping hazard for everyone, especially the elderly. It needs to be tilled up and leveled or filled in with dirt. Some of these issues were addressed by maintenance, and some we just dealt with as we wanted to relax and not be inconvenient with maintenance. We also had a few nights where the swimming pool, and community barbeque area were taken over by employees and their families. I appreciate a company that values their employees. Though we were a large paying group and shouldn't be competing for space with the employees. For the most part our group is pretty chill, and we would have just accepted it for what it was. Though how the trip finished is really what has left a sour taste and moved me to leave this review. The power went out about 9pm the night before we checked out. The reason is totally understandable and acceptable. But the fact that Big Bear Vacation Rentals was aware of this before it happened and did not notify us so we could be prepared is not acceptable. Just having the chance to charge our phones before it went out. We had 36 people there with a lot of small children that were scared. And we had to pack up and get out that next morning without any power. I was asking about a later checkout with no responses. In fact, the responses I was getting were not even relevant to the questions I was asking. I have saved the whole text thread. Lastly, we had some family members who had forgotten items in three different cabins. This is ultimately their fault. Though it was very difficult to get through to anyone to report it. When I did get through, I was assured that items are always turned in by housekeeping and we would be notified. But days went by with no response. I had to keep asking about it. Ultimately I was just informed that nothing was found. I can see where one lost item didn't turn up, but 4 items just vanished? Where did they go? Ultimately, we love this location for our large family trips. But I'm stuck in the middle of upset family members who are now pressing me to find a different location. I'm hoping they calm down by the time I start to book again as I do love it there. I will say that the gentleman on location there during our stay was very friendly and helpful, though I can't recall his name. This Review was posted directly to Big Bear vacations, which responded in a very generic way. Were now approaching 3 weeks away and nobody has responded further. Since my future business isn't important enough to even warrant a phone call from management with an attempt to rectify these issues my family has urged me to take this public to inform others of potential issues they may incur. read more

We went up for a few days in a group of almost 30 Everyone loved this place. The location to the water and Village were ideal. Low traffic place that you can feel comfortable to have the children play. I reached out to Stephanie R almost a year earlier, and she suggested this place. She has been professional quick in responding, answering several questions we had over the year. She was such a pleasure. The young lady that was on site was very sweet and helpful too. Let me start by saying that if you are looking for a luxury cabin experience, this is not the place for you. This is a rustic, true cabin in the woods experience. My family used to stay here in the summer back in the 80's. For my birthday this year, I was craving some nostalgia. I hadn't been here in over 30 years and literally nothing has changed (except the check in process). It's still the quiet, rustic campground with the picturesque view of the lake. We stayed in Big Pine, a little studio cabin at the top of the hill. It was warm, cozy and clean. Personally, I found the dated decor and the creaky floor endearing and comforting. The bed was comfy and the shower was great (unlike most hotels we have stayed in). It was the perfect setting for a quick, quiet getaway. Pulling into the driveway and seeing the Shore Acres sign, I felt a pit in my stomach and got a little choked up. Memories of my childhood came flooding back, which probably makes me a bit biased in my review. And I did miss checking in at the main cabin like we used to back in the day. The only reason I am giving them a 4 out of 5 is that it takes a lot for me to give a 5...like, literal perfection. The screen on the front door wouldn't lock, which meant we couldn't have the door open without tying our puppy up inside so she wouldn't run out. The toilet did run for a while after each flush, which could be minimally annoying. And the carpet, although clean, could stand to be replaced. But, that's about it. Linens and towels were clean and soft and the kitchen had everything we needed for meal prep. And I can't forget the girls who checked us in. They were super sweet and even gave our little puppy some treats. I would absolutely stay here again. I'd love to stay in the big cabin down by the lake again, like we did when I was a kid. read more

Is the location charming? Yes. Does the location have character? You bet. Is the on site staff friendly? More than you can believe. So why not a 5 star review? It really depends on what you are looking for. You get what you pay for. For the most part, we really enjoyed our stay, and the location. Here were the reasons I did not give a 5 star review. The cabins and furniture within are dated. Could really use some updates, newer furniture, some paint, some doors (we had curtains in place of doors), some new carpet, I refused to walk barefoot around the place. I get it, it's old, but so is my house and we update it to keep it nice. If some clean carpet, paint and furniture was placed, it would be amazing. Second downgrade, I wish we had known there was a family reunion taking place. We felt way out of place. They were all out at the pool everyday and using all the facilities and we just felt out of place so we ended up not using any of the facilities during the stay and kept to ourselves. Our decision, yes, but it's kind of hard to fit in at a family reunion lol. A heads up would have been nice. You can walk to the water, they have a dock, and there is a "beach" area you can go to if you want to swim or just sit by the water. read more

0 stars. This is no air bnb... just an old run down hotel cabin set. Had to drive to another location just for a parking pass, which my girlfriend had to sign a 5 page document for. Had to hunt for our parking space, which was hidden and unmarked behind the cabin, and had to drive through a mud pit to reach it. They lied about check out extension possibility, which one can only request b/t 8-10am the day of check out, due to cleaning times... which they charge $80 for... but don't do at all. The carpet was filthy when we arrived and seemed not to have been vacuumed in months. They required us to take out our trash to the community dumpster, which they gave no location on and was about 200 yards away, as well as ask us to clean the dishes. Are you kidding me? So my question is what the hell are they actually cleaning for $80 and how long does it take to do no cleaning at all, that they couldn't let us check out at 11am at least? They charged $275 for a view. Ohh and no coffee or bottled water. All of their requirements should be listed under amenities so I could've known the extent of accommodation. I shouldn't have to do 10 minutes of research to know if I'd like to stay. All of their limitations should be listed and discoverable within 20 seconds of viewing the listing. If this is representative of AIR BNB, I question their values. Speaking of which, the value of this stay was more like $150 after taxes and fees. The only thing that made our stay decent was the positive, humorous, and tolerant attitude of my girlfriend and I. WON'T EVER STAY HERE AGAIN & NEITHER SHOULD YOU. We rented Lonepine #107. It was perfectly located right on the lake and has its own dock! (Literally like 20 feet away from the cabin) We were there over a busy weekend and it was fun and relaxing. All the neighbors were quiet at night and friendly, we got lucky with a good group of other renters. I would stay again. This is a smaller cabin, perfect for 3-4 people max. There is a king bed and a twin bed in the same room. One bath. Sheets and towels provided. Most kitchen utensils provided. I would bring paper towels, tin foil, wine opener and coffee pot filters with you (regular basket type). The oven/stove in the kitchen is smaller than normal full size. Also bring extra TP for the restroom. (Only one roll was provided and it was rough cheap TP.) King bed wasn't the softest or most comfy bed ever made, but it wasn't horrible either. All in all, this is a cabin not the Hilton and it was awesome! I would love to stay again! We had a few ants in the kitchen, but its a cabin in the mountains... FYI: There is a DVD player in the cabin, it stuck a few times trying to open/close it, but played fine. Pool, spa, horseshoes. volleyball, swing set, bbq grills and more all within steps from each cabin in this community. read more

Lovely spot. Old school cabins- pretty clean inside and out. We had the Big Pine cabin for two. There is a badminten set up as well as a pool (which was closed), ping pong set, swings and horseshoe. We thoroughly enjoyed our six nights in the Lupine cabin, which was perfect for two adults and a teen. The location couldn't have been better, the view was picture-perfect and the accommodations were very clean and tidy. Being an older building, there were creaks and little quirks that made the small cabin rustic in feel and exactly what we were looking for: a camping vibe with the basics in amenities. The kitchen was easy to work in, the bathroom was larger than I thought it would be, and the porch was our favorite place to relax and unwind after a day on the lake. Kudos to the groundskeepers, too, they were consistent in making sure Shore Acres was well kept. We will definitely be back! read more

We stayed in Big Pine #103. It was awesome! The check in was easy and people were kind. Outside the cabin was ping pong, a swimming pool, jacuzzi and the lake! The neighboring cabins were full of friendly folks. It was peaceful and beautiful and just what we needed. The cabin is rustic and charming and clean. The shower had good water pressure. The kitchen is adorable. The bed was firm and fine for us. This trip made us feel like kids. We'll definitely come back! read more

We stayed in Lone Pine #107. We had a partial view of the lake and about a 10 second walk to get to it. Its beautiful. It also has a dock if you were to rent out a boat and wanted to take a break and get some lunch at your cabin! 1 bedroom = 1 King bed/ 1 twin Living room = 3 seater couch, coffee table, fireplace, flat screen tv, dvd player, jig saw puzzles Kitchen = 4 seater table, stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, pots & pans, plates, cups, utencils. Amenities = A nice sized clean pool, small Jacuzzi, ping-pong table (surprised to see that there were paddles and a ball), horseshoe, swing set, volleyball, badminton and extra picnic tables. Kinda felt a like a family summer camp. :O) This is definitely a nice little cozy clean cabin! We're in the woods for crying out loud. So don't expect anything fancy schmancy. The cabin was clean which is my #1 concern. KITCHEN: There aren't too many plates and cups but it should do. The fridge and stove/oven aren't full sized but good enough. There was a small ant problem in the kitchen by the window. We just cleared out the ants a couple times a day and that was that. BATHROOM: There were towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner provided in the bathroom. The only thing is the towels on the sink were pretty dingy so I didn't use them, I'm guessing they're clean and have just been used a lot. PICNIC/BBQ GRILL: Our bbq grill was in this funny little corner not anywhere near the picnic bench but we were able to get a portable one from the main office and move it next to our picnic table. We had a great time riding our bikes around this area - lots of nice homes to see. Taking morning walks and went to Big Bear Marina and rented a small pontoon. Would definitely stay here again if the price is right. We had a living social coupon which helped with the cost but it was still fairly pricey. Not a bad find! We went up for a birthday getaway, and for me it was a bit woodsy. I was reluctant to stay especially since there was a yellow tractor parked next to the cabin. Ok... Well we walked in, and I was taken by surprise that it was cozy. A rustic modern feel a great tv and DVD with only 1 channel but who needs tv when your in big bear! Bathrooms were clean and kitchen was cute. Just about 100 feet to the shore itself and friend people that actually, smile and say hello when you walk by. It looks like they are remodeling all the units and that explains the tractor. So I hope who ever comes here in the future has the same great time... read more

This was our first visit to Shore Acres and so glad we found this little gem. We ran into so many guests who had been coming to this place for years and years. One gentleman we spoke to this morning had been coming for 37 years! Our cabin was perfect for the two of us. We were in walking distance to the lake and had a lake view. The staff were wonderful especially our new friend Bonnie. She is a treasure to this place. She was always so helpful with recommendations to restaurants in town and helping with anything we needed. This cabin is not a bad place to stay whatsoever, however, the staff has not been the most helpful. The pool and spa have been closed the entire weekend, the spa didn't even have water in it. The person on the phone told us that the pool and spa had been open all weekend from 11-6 which was not accurate. The beds are very firm and you can feel the springs on your back. The dish strainer was not clean to put our dishes in and we had no towel to dry our dishes. The furniture is very worn down. The wall heaters are quite literally falling off the walls and do not seem safe but do the job and keep the cabin warm. There was a large crack under the front door that let in the cold, spiders, and ants. This is a camping experience more than a cabin and you need to come prepared with dish towels, dish soap (if you will be here for more than the weekend since what they leave is tiny), your own shampoo/conditioner, paper towels. They did leave a pretty detailed list of what you will need but wanted to make sure that anyone interested knew what they were getting into. read more

#104. This location is close to the lake which is nice...and the price is low which is what we were looking for this visit. The lady who is here to help is very sweet and helpful. The unit was simple and clean and gave all the dishes and kitchen amenities. We will definitely be spending a little more now that we know that this low price range gets you a shower that feels like its going to fall apart the whole time you are in it and is made for only very small people. The shower door doesn't close so the water goes out the whole time all over the floor, taking up 2 towels just for the floor. It is an older place so I understand that things squeak and creak but not everything has to. The doors and functional things need WD-40 for sure. 1.5 of the 6 windows actually open for fresh air. While I get what we decided to pay for was going to give us an older place with older furniture etc., I feel that things should actually still be functional. The beds feel hard as bricks. I might as well have been on the floor. I tossed and turned more times than I can count ALL night! read more

Stayed in cabin 104 for 3 nights. From our deck we had a great view of the lake which was just a short walk away. There were so many amenities (ping ping, horseshoes, volleyball, badmitten, swings, a pool and jacuzzi) Our cabin came with portable fans and heaters so you are prepared for any temperature. The lady who worked on site was super helpful with everything, she gave us pet friendly spray for the few ants we had and was able to answer any questions. Now that ww have spent more time here. We only found more problems... Doors are extremely hard to shut because they don't really fit in the doorway. One door is so hard to close that sometimes we just had to leave it unlock and cross our fingers and pray no one stole all of our possessions in the cabin! One if the toilets didn't flush! Gross! And that same bathroom the light didn't work so our family was forced by the great darkness of this cabin to all use the one bathroom. Which if we were paying for one bathroom would of been fine but were paying for 2 functional bathrooms!!! Which we did not receive. Also the kitchen looks like it was cleaned with a dirty rag. Our favorite part about this place is that it accommodates our dogs and my son had a great time. He enjoyed being so close to the lake and playing on the swings. It's easily accessible and very quiet. Our only cons are that if you try and watch tv it is impossible because of the reception, and as promised on their website and photographs there was not a charcoal BBQ. When we called to see if we can get a BBQ possibly from another cabin that isn't occupied I was literally told to "go outside on the deck, go down the stairs, and look up. That is your BBQ." I was very unhappy that I was expected to use this grill that is clearly not maintained and was used as someone else's ashtray. Other then that, we were happy with our stay. read more

We stubbled upon this place last weekend and it was great. If you're expecting a modern, swanky, hilton like cabin then my dear, you've never really stayed in a true cabin! This is what a cabin is supposed to be like - a nice cozy fireplace, small kitchen, wood paneled walls, somewhat dated decor, and lots of references to mountain activities. We drove up to Big Bear on a whim and turned down a road called Lakeview (kind of key since we were looking for something with a lake view), and we stumbled upon this place. Its right on the lake and they had a cabin available for us. We brought our dog and enjoyed some walks along the beach, fishing, and smore making next to the fire. It was a great weekend and well worth the $170 per night. I highly recommend this place, its a real cabin experience. It was just perfect! You can tell they care for their customers. The place was clean and very cute decorated. The Christmas decorations were all over and made the place even more cute and cozy. The maintenance person was always nice and very helpful. The only suggestion is that it will be nice if the bathrooms have a hair dryer. The only reason I give this a 2 star is the location and that we had shelter from the snow. After calling 3 times with no Managment reply, here is are they key points to the email I sent (which has never been replied to): 1. A window to an outside door was broken out and covered with duct tape. Completely unsafe and unacceptable. 2. The unit was dirty with food in the utensil holder, food and dirty paper towels in between the couch cousins, a paper towel shoved in a window. Sauce pans still had grease in them although we were expected to leave them clean for the next guests. 3. Early check in became unavailable so check in was 3 pm, which became 4 due to an "inspection" 4. The bedroom heater wasn't working and the other bedroom sink wasn't producing water, which was repaired in a reasonable amount of time, but the unit was "inspected" prior to our arrival. We were married here this summer. We rented out the entire lodge, and were married on the lake shore. We had the reception on the grounds. The cabins were all clean. There was a threadbare spot here or there, and the occasional massive shower dwelling spider, but everything was clean. Wildlife is part of the cabin experience ;) The cabins are very roomy, and many have their own tables, porches, and individual grills. There's certainly sufficient facilities to cook most basic meals, and full size fridges with a decent amount of plates, bowls, ect. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. They were on point helping out with everything we needed when we needed it, and they kept the dock clear all afternoon for us for pictures, ect. The price was very very reasonable, particularly for the many double cabins. Really, if we were to come up for a weekend, that's by far the most cost-effective option. Split a cabin with another couple, and you're well down into the two digits for the night. They had no problem with us decorating, moving all the tables around, setting up sound and lights, and so on. Unlike the hotels and some other lodges, they don't mind a bit if you bring in your own large grill and do your own cooking. It's not right in the village, but it's a short walk in good weather (half mile maybe?). You can absolutely have dinner and 2-3 drinks and not have to worry about driving home. The really great thing about it, though, is group events. At summer rates, it's just a terrific place for large group functions. Only a couple hours from the Los Angeles area, and you've got a great combination of boating, hiking, clean air, gorgeous well-stocked lake, *and* movie theaters and grocery stores and a real hospital and pharmacy just a few hours away. read more

My husband and I live in Vegas (hot!) and wanted to get away to somewhere a little cooler one last time before he deploys to Afghanistan (hotter!). We had a wonderful time here. We had a nice little cabin with its own grill and deck. The pool and hot tub were both clean. The hot tub was exactly that - HOT! We got addicted to their outdoor pingpong table and had to buy one when we got home. The only issues we had: the heater wouldn't turn off completely (enough with the heat!). We called maintenance and they were there within 15 minutes. The shower didn't have an inside door handle so you had to slam it pretty hard to get it to close and really push on it to get it to open. The shower had a small side leak so we had to wipe the floor after every shower. The shower drain glogged and almost overflowed so my husband had to plunge it but after one plunge it was fine. The shower ended up being the bane of our existence for this trip but everything else was fantastic. We walked to the lake quite a bit and my husband was able to rent a fishing pole from town and caught some fish right from the shore. The kitchen is nicely stocked, we used it alot as we love to eat...I mean cook. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful the entire stay. I would definitely recommend staying here, just beware the rebellious shower. read more

I would highly recommend Shore Acres Lodge! Especially for a family reunion or gathering. We had 50+ family members at Shore Acres and we had a great time. We reserved every one of the 12 cabins that are there so it was the perfect size for us. The location is ideal (close to town and the lake but away from the busy Blvd.), the manager Bonnie, was very helpful in attending to our needs and had things fixed if necessary. We rented the largest of the cabins, 3BR for a family vacation. As far as the facility was concerned, we were satisfied. We expected "Rustic". However, upon departure we found out that the Management "Big Bear Vacations" keeps a $1000 security deposit for 30 days after you leave in case you damaged the property. What kind of damage could you do that would take 30 days to discover. Even so, how would they know who did the damage since by 30 days several others would have rented the cabin. I asked the young woman who said she was the Manager of Big Bear Vacations to have someone Inspect the cabin then return my deposit. She refused, was arrogant and rude. Look at other Yelp's about Big Bear Vacations Real Estate to see others who have had bad experiences with this cabin rental firm. I visit Big Bear several times a year, both winter and summer. This is the First and Last time I will stay in any facility managed by Big Bear Vacations. read more

This past Saturday I hosted my 10th Annual Family Reunion at Shore Acres Lodge. Was an amazing experience. I was checking in a couple of days prior to the reunion and had been dealing w/Julia at Big Bear Vacations who was just wonderful! She helped me from day one to find this perfect location and ensure it had everything I was looking for, for our reunion. She provided me w/other near by hotels/cabins in case all of my family could not stay at lodge and recommended some ideas for catering. A few days before I was to come up Julia called me just to check in and see if there was anything I needed or if I had any questions prior to my arrival. I asked her if she would be working on the day we were to check in and she said no, but that if I did not mind waiting till noon, she would come in to personally check me in! We arrived in Big Bear a couple of hours early so I took my immediate family to the site to show them before we went back to get checked in and we met Susie who takes care of things at the Shore Acres Lodge. What an amazing person! She took us on a tour and we talked as if we had known each other for a lifetime. My children instantly fell in love... and so did I. We checked in on Thursday and saw Susie everyday up until when we checked out on Sunday. This women was constantly in motion. Checking every detail and showing such pride and enjoyment in her job and her guests. I say "her guests" because I have never met someone who took such personal pride and commitment to her job. She truly cared about me and my family and put me at such ease. I was a little put off by this "corporate" person that showed up several times in a day and each time she seemed to speak to Susie in a demeaning way. She pulled into the lodge the one night and almost hit my sister in law with her car. When my sister in law stopped she said she was looking for Susie and spoke to her for a minute and sped off. This women seemed to upset Susie but when I asked her if she was okay, she just smiled and turned the subject back to me and how I was doing. I've seen the comments regarding this lodge and they speak of a women with high regards and I can only assume they too are talking about Susie. I would highly recommend they keep her happy and show their appreciation for the commitment she has to Shore Acres Lodge and their guests. She is a rare find and one of the main reasons I am writing this review right now. I am the youngest of 14 siblings and have a huge family. I would recommend this place to any and everyone one of them. I will definitely be returning to Shore Acres Lodge. The place if pretty rustic and lots of things are falling apart in the cabins, but knowing that there was someone there that truly cared about our comfort and happiness made us blind to some of the imperfections. Came up for four days and three nights. It was the most cost effective option for a small family of three. The cabin needed some repairs but it was still in okay condition. It was clean and safe which are my two highest priorities. I used the kitchen a few times for two meals. Other times. I was making tea or hot chocolate. The stove was very tiny. My favorite part of this trip was location location location . I could see the lake from the bedroom. We sat out on the porch to eat and just watch the lake. Awesome. read more

Came here with a group of 16 adults for a co-ed bachelor/bachelorette party, and this place was perfect! Small 1-2 bedroom cabins but perfect size, and some were right on the lake! I know there are a lot of bad reviews but they are OLD - the new owner/management have totally updated the place and they are completely clean with excellent quality linens, towels, and amenities. Onsite management couldn't have been nicer and took great care of us - Susie is the best!!! Everyone who came thought this would be a perfect spot to come back to year after year. We used all of the amenities - boat dock, volleyball, horse shoes, pink pong, pool/spa and all were great! Loved it here! read more

Our family reunion here for three days with 40 people was awesome. The site was perfect next to the lake with swimming pool and volleyball court The cabins were rustic and comfortable. The best part was Susie who was the site manager. She was very welcoming and made us feel like family. Thank you for making our stay so delightful. read more

Beautiful vacation cabins! Stayed out here for a weekend race in the region and loved the price, the accessibility to the lake and center of the Big Bear Village. Had a great time playing badminton, ping pong and the other myriad of games they had available in their center court as well. The kitchen was certainly a nice luxury, would love to stay here again! read more
