The cabin was fine for the price and renovate, the only thing I didn't like was that the bathroom didn't have a heater (we went in January). It didn't have a closet, just three hooks for hanging clothes--very basic! I wanted two beds, but there wasn't an option for two beds in one room when I booked, so I got a bed with a sofa bed. However, the sofa bed was near the door in the leaving room, and the first night it felt too cold; on the second night, we decided to cover the front door with the sofa pillows because the heater wasn't helping to keep the living room warm. The staff was very friendly. (I think the heater didn't work well) Also they have pet friendly. read more

Wish we had more time to enjoy this gem! I booked our studio cabin in January '23- via telephone. Think I searched the website before making the phone call (can't remember that far back LOL). Here's the thing. The plan was to book a property in Big Bear to accommodate an overnight stay for my motorcycle gals to enjoy. But, as I was calling around various properties- many wanted a 2 night minimum of booking on a Friday or Saturday night during summer months. So, as I was on the phone with Big Bear Frontier, the agent mentioned if we booked in a Sunday night- a one night minimum is okay. And it worked out perfect! Didn't book this cabin for the gals- instead it was a Father's Day/ birthday getaway for hubby & I. There are many driveways to enter the property on Big Bear Blvd and Lakeview Drive. The lobby is spacious w/ a fireplace, board games, and places to sit and relax. Although 4pm is check in- we arrived early into Big Bear and grabbed lunch in the Village. By the time we were done- it was 2:30pm and I called the front desk- our cabin was ready! Whew! It worked perfect because we planned on leaving the following day at 7am. I totally forgot I booked the room with a jacuzzi inside! So, for a studio cabin- perfect size for 2 people- but, there are no sofas. The bed is super comfy. The bed and jacuzzi are in front of the tv. Seems like all cabins on property have a porch and some chairs to enjoy. Our cabin had a kitchen, decent sized mini fridge, toaster, coffee pot. Within walking distance to the Village! I would book here again, in a heartbeat. read more

My wife and I came up there to be in the snow on 2/17 and we stayed in a studio cabin. The cabin was very nice although the little closet they had for us should have had a closet rod to hang our jackets not just a couple of hangers on a key holder type thing. The reason for the low stars is the fact the wood burning fireplace did not work well at all(yes the flute was open). It got so smoky in there it was unbearable and had to put it out before it even got going and the fact we could not use the heater while the fire was going from what I was told by the front desk. I will start by saying that I specifically chose this hotel because of pool and spa which were closed. That fact was not relayed to me when I made reservation. And ofcourse that detail was in the fine print. The room was nice BUT the heavy smell of cleaning chemicals was so overwhelming that it gave me a headache and I had to sleep with windows open. But here is the worst part, they took $100.00 deposit from me upon checking in and never refunded it as promised. When I called, THE FRONTIER LODGE deflected the problem to my bank. My bank stated there was no such transaction coming to me from THE FRONTIER LODGE or their 3rd party reservationist . My room was left impeccably clean so there was no reason to keep my money. I have been trying to retrieve it back for over a month now. The fact that I have made multiple phones calls, been on hold for hrs. and dealing with AI has been such an inconvienience and waste of my time. It's not the money it's the principle. And if they are doing this to everyone, it's probably paying for all of their current upgrades!!!!! At this point I would expect nothing less than a complete refund of my stay there . I had to leave early and I thought I was going to lose my money for the day that I had to leave but then manager stepped up to the plate and gave me my money back without me even having to ask she offered it to me. The staff at Big Bear Frontier were very helpful, accommodating, and courteous. Our family was on a vacation to Big Bear for the first time in a few years. When checking in to our room it was as advertised on the site as will as positive reviews. Very clean, lots of amenities, and good space. We reserved a room in the hotel portion. Everything was fantastic until the room we were in on the very end of the building nearest the lake we began hearing a high pitched noise from the outside. Also had some gymnast children above us. The loud high pitched sound was the main issue that continued for the rest of the night. In the morning I informed the manager "Robert" the entire issue showing a recording of the sound, which they were going to check. I asked if we could be switched to another room. Robert and his staff did better than that put us in a cabin on the property, and did not charge the difference because of what happened. We were very pleased how everything worked out. The cabin was amazing as was the hotel room minus the sound. The property is beautiful with lake views and shore walking access. Thank you Robert and Staff, we enjoyed our stay and are grateful for your service. This made our stay and trip very relaxing and memorable. We "Highly recommend BIG Bear Frontier"! I have being coming to Big Bear every year sometimes twice for the past 8 yrs for vacation. Always staying here in their cabins. The workers are great and always ready to help if needed. Deb in the front office is the sweetest lady gotta love her! The prices are really good. The cabins are so close to the lake and pretty to walk around. The shops and restaurants are close by with Vons n Petco about 5 minutes away. This is a great place to stay. It's a must try! read more

I'm giving this place three stars because there's good and bad things about it. There are actually two sections one is the cabins that are single story. They have no air conditioning which is not really an issue however when we went in August it was pretty hot. The cabins actually have woodburning fireplaces . They have a second building across the street. It's a two story hotel type building with no elevator. The cabins are actually more expensive so I booked a hotel room in the two story building. Here's the good and bad. Good: 1. Close to village (15 min walk) that has restaurants and shops 2. The beds are very, very comfortable. 3. Has a huge bathtub which is good for kids or if you want to soak in a tub after a long day. 4. Dogs are allowed in every room. 5. The two story hotel building is right in front of the lake. It's nice to have your coffee what and Thank you ere's a table outside for the view. 6. Cute electric fireplace. 7. Has a huge bathroom countertop, which is nice. 8. There's a table that sits two in the room and the room is huge. Has a small fridge and microwave. Bad: 1. The two story hotel building is across a live street. It's very far from the Pool. 2. There is no fence in front of the lake in front of the two story hotel . kind of dangerous if you have children, you have to keep an eye on them. 3. To open the door is a flat card that you flash in front of the door and when it turns green you turn the handle however we could not open the door. It seem to be stuck when I went to the front desk to tell them that the door won't open and they responded with, it should open, not sure why it's not opening for you. I felt that this was very unprofessional and felt like they're not even listening to what I have to say, if you have poor hand Dexterity, you're gonna have a real issue opening the door. the people next to us also had the same problem. I had to take control of the situation and tell the front desk person what are you gonna do to help me? He seemed annoyed and said I'll send maintenance over. We had dinner reservations so we had to leave and then when we came back and found the front desk was closed. There's only a phone number for emergencies only. He could've told me that before we left. we finally got the door open after pushing the door with our shoulder really hard. They could've easily told us after I told him we are leaving for dinner reservations that we won't be open. Later a different rap said that it's due to the weather well then you better fix it for future guest because that's not our problem. 4. There is no elevator for the two story building. this could be a problem for elderly or disabled people. I don't remember that being on the website. 5. The pool Jacuzzi did not work. when I went to the front desk to ask them how we can get it fixed, this was at 4 o'clock and there was a note on the door "at lunch until 6 pm". There was no one at the front desk, the door was locked. I''m not sure how people who come to check in would check in but I thought this is very unprofessional and we could not use the Jacuzzi and later when I complained to the front desk, the response was, well, We have to take lunch. Apparently you can't afford to hire another employee to watch the desk when the other person takes lunch. 6. The toilet got clogged. They had a plunger next to the toilet, but I could not unclog it. I guess if it's after hours you can call the emergency line but I'm not quite sure, meanwhile, it took them an hour to get someone to come and unclog it. 7. Bring your own body soap. there's a dispenser in the shower, but it's so light, It doesn't even bring a lather. 8. There's a keurig coffee machine, but the coffee is horrible so bring your own Keurig pods My main complaint was the office staff. I felt they were very unprofessional and if you're not gonna have someone who's gonna be on the premises the whole time then it's kind of like you're on your own. We stayed here on Sat., 1/14/23. We were supposed to stay till Mon., 1/16 but it was shortlived. Let me tell you why. Disclaimer This review is specifically for the lodge (ROOM 118), not the cabins. The lodge is two floors in the back by the lake. Read the other reviews and heed the warning about the first floor. It's all true if people are staying above your room. It will get loud and noisy. I give four Stars for the remodel. The room has been remodeled, and it looks great. New beds, flooring, walls, faux fireplace, fridge console, bathroom then bam! Although the bathroom was remodeled, I don't think all that water on the floor was part of it. The bathroom was flooded; it looked like the water was coming from the closet through the floors. We called the front desk, and unfortunately, they were fully booked and unable to relocate us. They provided us with a lot of towels and told us the manager and maintenance would be by the following morning. So we created a barrier with the towels to contain the water inside the bathroom. But it's water and a towel, so it doesn't do much. We put on our snow boots anytime we went in the bathroom, but then we trek water spots all over the room. We used the bathroom as little as possible, but It was inconvenient. The following morning you can see the water is starting to seep under the new floors in the room. We jumped in the tub to change since the entire bathroom floor was flooded. We did our thing that day. I guess maintenance came in and checked it out. Bestie got the call and was told they couldn't do anything. The best they could do was comp us. So we checked out. With it being a packed mountain-filled weekend, we were unable to find new accommodation and our trip was short-lived. They didn't charge us for the other day, and it took a long time for them to comp us. My friend kept having to email them. They finally comped her $100 but she still ended up paying $250. Huh! *** Updated*** After this review and the response. My bestie received her refund. I will add a start and a half for the follow through, thank you! I booked a 2 bedroom villa for 4 nights. We stayed in cabin 11 right by the heated pool. The cabin was 2 bedrooms with queen beds in each, a mud room with a twin bed, full kitchen, dining room, 1 bathroom and a living room with a wood burning fireplace and pullout sofa bed. There was central heat which you had to control the thermostat and make sure the vents were open, some were closed. There was 1 tv in one of the bedrooms and the one in the living room with plenty of channels to kick from. Excellent Wi-Fi connection for our 5 devices we had. Our key got jammed on the second day and maintenance fixed it in minutes. The place was perfectly clean except for the carpet. It could use a good shampooing. It's dog friendly so I was expecting dog hair like at previous locations but was pleasantly surprised to find zero hairs lying around. No weird or musty smells either. Stocked kitchen and bathroom. Space heaters and ceiling fans in every room. My only complaint would be that my bedroom faced the parking lot of the adjacent property so the headlights kept flashing through the blinds. Overall friendly staff and nice property close to everything. Will stay here again. read more

I typically will not stay the night when enjoying a day of snow play since I only live a little over an hour drive away, but we wanted to take it easy on this trip and decided on renting a night by staying at Big Bear Frontier. They offer small cabin or small rooms, which that was what we opted to do this time. We looked over past pictures left by other Yelpers and was very pleasantly surprised when we opened the door to find a fully renovated rooms. There was also a laminated letter on the nightstand about the renovation which isn't fully completed yet since they still needed to add a fridge and upgrade the TV. Well you are probably asking why did I leave a 3 star then.... The rooms we had stayed at is a 2 story layout which we ended up on the bottom floor which whoever was staying on the second floor was making a lot of noise running an walking around in the middle of the night. I don't think you can do much about this but we all were not able to sleep well that night. Note if you decide to stay here is to request if you can get the 2nd floor room. read more

We had a very nice stay recently at Big Bear Frontier. The property is conveniently located and on the lake. We travel with a small dog. The property is very dog friendly. We stayed in a studio cabin which had everything we needed; a kitchen with cooking utensils, a comfortable bed, clean bathroom, porch, and a nice outdoor space. The cabin was cute, but had one really odd feature: a hot tub in the living area directly in front of the fireplace. We will go back to stay there, but will ask for a cabin without that layout. read more

It was ok experience. Check in was very smooth and the lady at front desk was very nice. However, the room we have is not so great but I think we get what we paid. The carpet was super old and I'm sure it's been cleaned but I didn't want to walk with my bare feet which I usually do at other hotels. The size of room is spacious enough for two of us and has shampoo(no conditioner), bar soaps, body lotion and plenty of towels. The towels has dark stains and bathroom is just so old. At least ok shower pressure(not so great but not horrible either) for us so I didn't mind. I just didn't like the hotel is so old so we hear foot steps constantly above us and sounded like people above us moving in the room for an whole day... The hotel is in front of lake and has place for us walk dogs and take care of their business. It was nice. I think most hotels and cottages around here are old and because of tourists place people stay there anyway. At least I wanted to experience big bear and I already did, I don't think I would go back and stay any other hotels with the price. If I really love big bear and want to come back, I would give up on luxury hotels to stay. PROS: Location: close to town and in front of lake Pet friendly Fridge and microwave CONS: Outdated room Too pricy Can hear neighbors conversation and foot steps I'm not sure any other expensive hotels can be so much better than this or not. Bed is comfortable and was made so well! ! Linens are clean and of superior quality. Toiletries are shampoo , body lotion, and bar soap. Property with multiple cabins well positioned for privacy. 2nd time staying here. We stayed in their motel last time. That was nice too. Walking distance to food, boat rentals, shops and more. Pet Friendly-I didn't have a pet w/ me, but several cabins did have dogs! Plenty of space to walk your dog and they even provide poop bags! CLEAN-During Covid we were hesitant to travel, but we were impressed with how clean the entire cabin was (kitchen, bathroom, bed)! We did bring our own cleaning materials and did spray Lysol on everything just to be extra careful, but it smelled clean and not like a "cheap" motel room! My husband and I had a fantastic stay. Had a 1 bedroom cabin by the water. The view was amazing, loved the whole outdoor set up. Had BBQs, picnic tables, horseshoes, cornhole, and poop bag for pets. Cabin was spacious with a nice living area, large fireplace, bedroom, bathroom, closet, porch, and kitchen. Best thing is how pet friendly they are, even have dog treats in the lobby. Our pup had a ball. Also LOCATION! Right on the lake and an easy walk to the shops. Only negative is the cabin needed a TLC, there was a broken tile on the floor in the bathroom, the fan was broken, and the gate for the porch was missing a bar. We came for a quiet secluded camping type experience at a lake and got exactly what we wanted. We will definitely be coming back read more

The place was really cute I really love the cabin we got really connivence for us which is a plus and for my puppy. She got to run outside or be on the front porch whenever she wanted. This was extremely important to us because we have a toddler and snacks are a MUST. The beach is close by as is the village. Staff was extremely nice and helpful. It is always fun visiting Big Bear and it is triple fun when you get to make snowman! This little mini cabin style hotel was fun to stay at... It was all woody and rustic and just sooo cute... It gave me the feeling of the Hobbit house whenever I wanted to get into the cabin. As for the interior such as kitchen, it does need some upgrading... The nightly rate of $230 seems a bit steep if you want to utilize the kitchen which seemed useless. Considering that this was a pet friendly hotel, I was hesitant to stay here because they always smell.. But Thank God, the cabin did not smell. So I am not sure whether they have some cabins dedicated to guests that don't have pets or it was just my good luck.... The front desk staff was friendly but I did not have that many interactions with them to report otherwise. UPDATE: Oliver from Frontier responded and only noted that they are following CDC protocols and using only EPA cleaning supplies and that they will review cleaning. The disgusting mold throughout the grout and shower door "grooves" is from many years of neglect. Oliver did not address the oven which I assume needs to be replaced; the patio chairs with rips in the seats, or the water issues. Again, the owner needs to put some $ back in to this property. This low rating reflects the neglect of this run down property in a great location, as well as the unapologetic response at check-out. More than anything, the owner needs to put some of their profits into up-keep; from little things like light bulbs which were out in every room, to appliances and cleanliness. While the housekeeping staff does a really good job of cleaning surfaces, the shower was the grungiest/moldiest shower I have ever used - see pictures. The oven didn't work; maintenance came but didn't speak enough English and I don't speak enough Spanish; he tried to light the pilot with a match but couldn't (neither could we). He eventually got it working but we don't know how and could not get it to work the next morning; 2 of the burners also would not lite. The mini coffee maker and toaster were likely from the 70's, but at least they worked. We lost water pressure/water our second night...toilet wouldn't fill/flush, water dribble from faucets and shower, which unfortunately happened during a shower in the evening. Maintenance came again, said he was going to "do something" and it then worked. It was nice to have a small outdoor table w/umbrella for our unit and there was a bbq as well, unfortunately the 2 chairs seats were torn and we didn't trust sitting in so we brought the kitchen chairs out. I do have to give a big positive to the comfortable bed and bedding; firm mattress and crisp white sheets and duvet comforter. The second bed did make a lot of noise when turning from one side to another, but it was comfortable. We were in cabin 32, a 2 bed 1 bath. We paid what I assume was a covid inflated rate of $440/night! We were willing to pay this to celebrate a friends birthday. At checkout we brought the issues of water and non-working oven to the hotel staffs attenti - he was unapologetic and simply said they couldn't be responsible for a city water issue. No apology for a non-working oven or any apology for inconvenience whatsoever....clearly no offer of any discount either! Needless to say, we will never return and I can not recommend this property. read more

I came here last week for my boyfriend's birthday. When I booked this place I thought it would be a nice time of year to come but I sure was wrong. It was cold and windy!!! So anyways, after passing by this place two times I finally found it and pull in. The check in was pretty smooth except I was given this list of rules (literally) like I was some high school teenager that came here for some crazy party. They told me not to stain the towels and that if I left the room dirty there was a charge for that and if I check out late there is a charge for that too. And they put a $100 deposit on your credit card in case you destroy the room or something! O.K. O.K. no problem. So we head over to our lakeside room and settle in. The room was really nice for $80 bucks a night and it came with a jacuzzi tub...which was great! After unpacking we went out to explore the view of the lake and it was nice. The property is really clean and well maintained. While checking in we were told that they had movie rentals and since it ended up being so cold we decided that we would watch a movie...so we head up to the front office to rent a movie only to discover that the movies that they had for rent were all VHS tapes! Yeah right...come on this 2010 not 1980! We drove over to the Blockbuster Video and got a movie over there instead. This lodge is not far from the Village which has a bunch of shops and restaurants but if it's cold and windy (which it was) it's not that close either. We had a one night stay back last month. These cabins are cute and pretty cheap for having your own cabin. We brought our puppy so he we didn't have to worry about him making too much noise and getting complaints. Once in the cabin, it wasn't as nice as I was expecting. Everything in the cabin was a bit old and dusty. There was a few areas where our puppy was trying to squeeze in because it was super dusty and dirty. We had to find ways to block him out of those areas. We got a cabin with a hot tub in it, but we didn't even use it because it didn't look that sanitary. There were also ants in the kitchen sink and around the bathroom floor/sink area. The plus of this place is that it's so close to the lake! During the night, we took our puppy walking and playing in the snow. He had so much fun! We walked down to the lake where it was absolutely beautiful. If you want a cheap decent place to stay that is close to everything, I would suggest here. These cabins are also pretty close to the village. We didn't walk there as it was snowing and couldn't tell if there were sidewalks but it was only about a 5 minute drive. read more
