Front house

Our stay was exceptional. The house was spotless, exactly as pictured, and well-equipped. The host was incredibly responsive, answering any questions within minutes. Highly recommend! The only downside is the power outage during the night.other than that we had fun during our stay

Junk in the corner for that added touch.

Feeling tired of the L.A. hustle and the S.D. bustle and want to get away? Big Bear is one of those towns where it feels small enough to relax, yet has enough to do where you don't feel like you're going to start a new crafting hobby on vacation because you are dying of boredom. My girlfriend and I decided to take a trip to the mountains as she was mourning the one-year sudden loss of both her parents at Thanksgiving time. We came across Big Bear Vacation rentals on Booking and decided to, as the site says, book. The good: Freddy! This individual seemed to work all hours of the night and was ready to answer any question I had in such a friendly way. As for customer service, Freddy was spot on. The company itself seemed very responsive as a whole. They did text asking if there was anything they could do to make it a 5-star stay, but I didn't respond because truly what was needed was a lower rate for the quality and no pet-fee (as you will see below). As for the rest... (There's a dramatic ellipsis for you so that you know there's something coming). The Location: We enjoyed the location of the cabin. Peaceful and serene and just a quick jaunt to the center of town. Mind you she doesn't drink (forever a DD), so I am not sure if there are rideshares available should you want to get saucy. The Cabin: How do you say... not what we expected? Things in photos look nicer than they truly appear? 'Tis the season to be unimpressed? Because she was mourning, we decided to bring her emotional support pup (a real one with papers) and was informed that he was considered a pet and that he would be $40 a night. Of course, we paid and we paid an additional fee to check out at noon instead of 10am. That is a nice option when they have it available. "Come on! You said the cabin and you are talking about a dog!" The Cabin, Part II: The dog part is important because I do not think we should have been charged a fee for him as the house wasn't in good shape. As you will see in the pictures, the carpet falling apart, the curtains were too small for the windows and because they didn't have ends, the whole thing fell on me when I was trying to close them. The furniture was dirty (also see in the pictures). I would have thought "Well of course, it is a dog friendly place" but for an extra $80, I thought, "What are they charging us for?". The place had a heater and stayed warm, That was nice! It felt like someone had just shoved some things in corners like you were staying at Cousin Eddie's house, not somewhere you spent about $400 a night (also see in pictures). The wifi and password weren't working, but fortunately it had the correct one on the router. Our second night there, the light in the bedroom stopped working. Luckily there was a little lamp we could turn on to see. The master bathroom is a death trap at night as it is narrow and oddly shaped. I am 5'2 and 112 and I felt claustrophobic. Also, the window in the bathroom made me wonder if there are voyeur neighbors, 'cause if so, they got a good show everytime we had to pee. This odd bathroom wasn't displayed true to form in the rental photos. (See my photos) Cleaning: There was a cupcake wrapper left in one of the rooms and a chicken bone on top of the jacuzzi. We ended up not even using the jacuzzi since by the time we got back from town it was 9:30pm and didn't want to risk a $500 fee for going past 10pm. (I know, I know, rule followers). I do know they clean it though because at 11:45am I was cleaning up the kitchen, and a guy scared the carpe diem out of me as he was putting chemicals in it. With no curtain on the kitchen window, thank goodness I was dressed. Interesting morning moment: As we were sipping coffee on the deck our last day, mourning her parents, a woman to the left of the house said hello. She seemed friendly, but then started talking about how there are tweakers in the house (that's meth users for all ya that aren't up on the lingo) and how she's staying out of it, etc. etc. Ah! Nothing says "enjoy your cup of Joe on the morning deck" like a woman ranting about meth heads. All this to say that I love the customer service, but I have serious reservations (see what I did there) about the way the properties are presented versus what you might get. (Hmmm it won't let me post all the photos).

We checked in at 10:30 PM, and customer service informed us that we had to pay a $50 late check-in fee. Then, upon check-out, we were told that we needed to completely clean up all trash and personally drive it to their office dumpster located several miles away. Orelse they goona charge $25 per trash bag.Honestly, this was both frustrating and disappointing, and I truly wonder who came up with such an unreasonable "great idea." Before leaving, we cleaned all the dishes we used, put the used towels into the washing machine, restored the living room to the way it looked when we arrived, and packed all of our trash into garbage bags and left them by the front door, since there were no trash bins provided anywhere on the property. After we had already left, I received a text message saying that if there was no trash bin available, we were required to transport all trash ourselves to their office disposal area several miles away, otherwise we would be charged $25 per bag. They also stated that this requirement was included in the rental agreement we signed. Fine -- since it was written in the agreement, I won't argue about the charge. However, I honestly think this is an extremely unreasonable policy. Who would ever expect that a rental agreement would require guests to pack up? After contacting Booking.com for clarification, 1 was informed that there should not have been any $50 late check-in fee at all. Booking.com advised me to ask the property for a receipt for this charge. However, when I requested the receipt, their customer service suddenly stated that they would refund the $50 instead. This situation is honestly very concerning, as it gives the impression that the property may be charging guests improper or unauthorized fees. All these unpleasant and bizarre issues made the entire check-in experience very frustrating and uncomfortable for me.

Not much rental activity except in the winter, damage to the property that went unreported by housekeeping, and just the general vibe that our small cabin was a very low priority for them. Finally, we made the decision to change management this summer after we completed a remodel. I found Leanne in a Big Bear FB group online along with several other PMs who responded to a post I made about looking for new management. Leanne was the only one who provided helpful, tangible information when she reached out to me. We spoke and then I decided she and SkyHigh cabins would be our new managers. The onboarding process was smooth and detailed. They are extremely professional and walked me through the different stages of getting ready to "go live" on the various platforms they use. It took about 6 weeks to get everything completely switched over. But when we did go live in mid-October 2025, all I can say is WOW!! We've had 12 reservations made in just over a week's time! We didn't have 12 reservations in the last year total with the old company, so this has been very, very exciting for us. Aside from all of that, Leanne, Jennifer and their team are very communicative and helpful. If you are looking for new management, I cannot recommend them enough. Just do what they tell you to do, use their vendors, and follow their lead. They have figured out the algorithms and rental platforms to such a degree that your property will actually start to pay for itself. We were on the verge of selling our cabin, but now, we will be able to hold on to it. Call them today!!

What I noticed about the location of this cabin was that it was further away from the heavy tourist areas but close enough to grocery stores, restaurants and shops. So if you are looking for peace and quiet this is the perfect getaway from the everyday stresses of life. This cabin includes a living room with a cute fireplace, a small but full kitchen with a eating area, full bathroom (water pressure is good and it heats up pretty quickly), a bedroom with a closet, access to the backyard, a front porch and a cozy loft with a flatscreen TV that I didn't touch once. I was primarily there solo to detox from the busy life of Los Angeles and not to ski since I was there beginning of May. Snuggle Bear Cabin had everything I needed to detox. I laid out my yoga mat and meditation pillow upstairs in the loft and it had an inviting view of tall trees out the window. It was a perfect environment to reflect on life, letting all creative juices flow, read and write. The solitude was exceptionally welcome. The final full day that I was there, my boyfriend came up to join me. And really...all we did was snuggle. I highly recommend this beautiful cabin for anyone to deeply relax and enjoy the natural wonders of Big Bear. Thank you, Melia, for his wonderful experience.

From the beginning to the end we had the best experience. The mansion has so much history, is perfect to accommodate multiple families with en suites, huge kitchen, many places to relax, and plenty to do. We had kids from ages 4 to 10. We thought we would run out of things for them to do. Not at all. The mansion is so huge, they had plenty of room to stretch out, the hills on the property provided for fun sledding and snowman building. The adults were either at the sauna, jacuzzi, kitchen, outside in the snow walking the 2 acres of property or just relaxing in one of the many comfy nooks. I highly recommend Edgewood Mansion for any type of event whether it's a birthday trip, family reunion, corporate retreat or any other purpose where you want to feel like you're at home, or provided for like a Queen. The location which is located higher up in the mountains is away from the traffic. The accommodations are immaculate and the concierge services provided by Chantal who was available to us 24/7 before we got there and during, was spot on. We catered instead of cooking which was so much easier on everyone so we could enjoy each other's company versus cooking. Chantal gave us choices and she had Mexican food delivered one night, Italian catered another and on New Years Eve we had a personal chef, Mike who is a master chef create the most delicious surf and turf dinner. We had piles of Alaskan king crab legs and the freshest, tastiest filet. Everything was provided. This was an amazing trip because of where we stayed, the owner Laura who was so accommodating and Chantal who was so helpful. Our friends have not stopped thanking us for coordinating this trip. We all got to spend time together with the kids together and not feeling overwhelmed because everything was at our fingertips. This is super dangerous and luckily my youngest daughter did not get burned. There is no reason to allow your water heater to pump out scolding hot water, that is a simple adjustment. Fan in the bathroom is broken upstairs so to get air flow from a shower, you need to open the window which is in direct view of the neighbors living space. How the cleaning service does not notice this is confusing. The towels in the bathrooms are literally rags, all mixed matched, some with holes and super thin. Just a bit odd when you need 4 towels to dry off. The kitchen did not have a decent quality or array of items needed. The dishwasher had a rubber band holding the utensil tray on. The fireplace/living room was why we choose this location so that was as expected. The lingering Christmas decorations were a bit odd but with the overall quality of the property, it makes me think the property is just not either rented often or maintained. And last but not least, while we stayed for 2 nights, keep in mind we were out and about all day, a critter chewed all the wiring in our engine. It definitely was at this cabin since our engine light went on when we were departing on our last day. We assumed it was a faulty sensor since my car is new but as it turns out, $1,067 later, something ate through our engine while it was parked at the unit. And, that $1,067 may not fix it. If it doesn't work, the dealership told me they would need to replace this entire section. I did not bother to ask how much that was going to be. There are signs all over reminding you to not feed critters and you can not use their city issued trash receptacles. They want you to take the trash with you to this local dump which for this cabin, was in a convenient location. Not a big deal they want you to take the trash, but I am assuming the critter issue is a much bigger problem. We also opted to have the trip insurance just in case of weather. Although they cover a wide array of random things, the one thing they have listed as being not covered is.......VERMIN. I notified the management and they responded with a we will look into it. Take pictures of the cabin when you arrive and when you leave. The condition of the cabin was OK and i had no major issues during my stay. My problems started two days after i got home. I received a request from the booking agent for $500! The message read: 'Thank you for taking care of the deck repair. Michelle' I responded immediately asking what had happened and that i was unaware of any issues while renting. I feel like this type of communication was rude and absolutely presumptuous that i caused the damage. You see, i went to Big Bear when everything was covered in snow. It had been covered for the last weeks from a previous snowfall, and the snow had not melted yet. When i arrived at my cabin, it was completely covered - including the deck. We were not able to use the deck for this reason. Obviously the rental company did not shovel the snow in between renters. There was no further response from her and she escalated the issue to the AirBnb team. There was no dialogue or attempt to speak with me regarding this, which I believe would have deescalated the situation because i attached a picture clearly showing that the deck was covered in snow/ice. It did not snow while we were there - this was obviously from previous snowfall. The damage pictures she sent looked like a burn marks on the deck. Those burn mark pictures were soaked in snow melt and ice. Obviously this could not have been done by me i my picture shows the deck covered in snow. Till today, after escalating the issue the rental company has not followed up with myself or AirBnb. It is unprofessional and unnecessary to work with your customers this way. This company turned my great vacation into anxiety when i came home. I would never rent with them again. Be professional, do you diligence and don't accuse your renters of damage because you don't adequately check your properties in between rentals. -Renee
