I was able to snag a reservation last minute during the Seattle's Restaurant Week! I was thrilled to finally try this spot, it was absolutely so good! Each piece was made to perfection and the fish was so fresh. I went there about 7pm and the restaurant was full and the staff were so attentive. This spot reminds me of a place I went to in Tokyo. Definitely will be back again for more omakase.

$65 16-course meal for Seattle Restaurant Week, also available for their happy hours. A couple of the nigiri tasted a little fishy for me but not by much. Overall I enjoyed the experience and can tell that the fish is fresh and the course intentional. One of the better sushi spots I've had here

19 piece omakase to go, yes please!! We couldn't get a reservation, so we opted for take out. To be honest, the fish was still pretty good even to-go. 19 pieces was alot, but very filling. I loved the grilled toro, salmon, unagi, and uni pieces. I did get a bone in one of my nigiri's but it didn't deter my experience. Order took about 15 minutes total. Highly recommend if you're in a pinch

We got lucky and managed to snag a same-day reservation at Shiro's due to a cancellation! The interior had a casual ambiance, with a sushi bar and table seating. We opted for the 16pc Chef's Choice Sushi Course, which consisted of 4 courses. For the first course, we were served Albacore, Flounder, Sea Bream, and Black Snapper, which were excellent. The cuts of fish were great, and I appreciated the server advising where we should skip the soy sauce. The second course was Amberjack, Striped Jack, and 3 different Salmon varieties. As a salmon lover, I especially enjoyed this part! The fourth course consisted of Bluefin Tuna served 4 ways (all delicious) and the final course had Chopped Fatty Tuna, Eel, and Tamago. This last one was probably my least favorite, and the Tamago was different than normal, almost pastry-like. However, the overall experience was awesome, and we were very full by the end. A pricey but delicious dinner!

Excellent meal. If you want the HH menu though, you have to book the table seating. The full omakase is for the bar which is 4 starters (spread throughout the meal) and 15 nigiri. What I really appreciated about them is that they took the time to explain all the dishes. Seasonal sashimi: Sea bass, hobo, bonito skipjack tuna Large scale snapper Red snapper Knife jaw snapper Star butterfish Sweet shrimp Horse mackerel Bluefin tuna Japanese barracuda Chutoro Hotake Grouper Striperjack Uni Nodoguro (blackthroat sea perch) Fatty tuna (kamatoro)

My wife and I visited Shiro's during a weekend trip to Seattle and were fortunate enough to get a last-minute reservation. We were seated at a table, although we would have loved to experience the sushi bar. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful evening. This was our first omakase experience, and it certainly made a great impression. The sushi was excellent, with fresh, high-quality fish and a wonderful variety throughout the meal. We enjoyed it so much that we ordered several additional pieces of nigiri after finishing our omakase course. Our server was fantastic, very friendly, attentive, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. Shiro's was one of the highlights of our Seattle getaway and a wonderful introduction to omakase. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and would love to return, hopefully with seats at the sushi bar next time!

My friend treated me to the 19pc chef's choice sushi course set and I loved everything! Shiro's is one of her favorite sushi places in Seattle so I was very excited. We also ordered a side of crispy rice which came with tuna and snow crab for us to assemble ourselves. Best crispy rice I've had, as it wasn't overfried and the toppings were incredibly fresh. Favorites from the omakase: albacore, fuji salmon, negitoro, and the bluefin tuna 4 ways. Our server was kind, prompt, and very attentive. Highly recommend making a reservation here!

We made a reservation for happy hour. But when we checked in, someone changed their mind for the sushi bar, so we got to get their spot. 100% recommend the sushi bar. I'm not a huge fan of sushi but this has changed my life. Everything tasted so fresh and great quality. The staff are wonderful and we had such a fun time!

Super high quality fish selections and definitely the most approachable and affordable omakase option that I've been to in Seattle! The nigiri options were mostly simply dressed, some coming with additional toppings, to allow the fish quality to shine through. I appreciate the little omakase menu with the source of the fish so you can follow along through the courses. Overall the ambiance is also very casual so it didn't feel very stuffy or pretentious compared to some other fine dining restaurants. I think this place would be a great place to take someone who is new to omakase!

My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary. The environment and service was really nice and was a big part of the experience. For special occasions they offer to take a Polaroid picture for you and they sign it with the occasion and Shiros which was super sweet. We got the chefs choice sushi course - 16 pieces. The albacore especially melted in your mouth and was so buttery.

Kat W.

4.5 stars (5 for the price point). We tried the happy hour omakase (the 19 course, at a table/not at the counter) which is a great deal (their regular omakase is very affordable too, as compared to a lot of places especially NYC). It seems great for special occasions (we saw them coming by with a polaroid for those celebrating such as birthdays or anniversaries. I enjoyed how relaxed the vibes are at this place. I wish they had more cold tea options for the summer and more non-alcoholic drinks in general, but still had a great experience. The fish selection is fresh and the pieces are very manageable. It feels like there is a local touch with the salmon course/pieces. My husband is left handed and I was very impressed our waiter noticed and adjusted accordingly. I especially loved their soy sauce (which they said was house made). Fun little date night out and we really did enjoy it. Highly recommend making a reservation as that is what we did.

The sushi delivery here was SO bomb. I got the Salmon Combo ($38.50 on UberEats) and the Unagi Sashimi ($19.25). Hella expensive but you're paying for superior quality. I didn't eat in but the service and ambiance look nice - I know they're known for their eat-in omakase experience.

Finally tried Shiro's and I have to say, it was a pretty big let down. To be fair, we didn't do the bar seating and instead went for table reservations. Reservations during off peak dinner hours aren't too difficult to get on a weeknight and street parking was fairly easy to find. The omakase / tasting menu is 19 bites, which is a decent amount of food, but overall the fish quality was really disappointing. There were only about 4-5 pieces of nigiri that tasted fresh and clean; the white fish that you start with in particular were just not a fun texture or flavor. The shellfish course and sweet shrimp were solid though. Unfortunately, besides the fish, the rice was a total flop too. It just felt dried out as if they had been pre portioned well ahead of time and under seasoned. Part of the joy of a course menu, if you want slightly warm / room temperature rice against the cool fish, but you get zero of that contrast here.

Shiro's Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Shiro's

Are the Nigri sushi served in the chef's choice sushi course and shiro's omakase different or basically the same?

My understanding is that the omakase sushi is different at the sushi bar versus at the tables in the dining room, but I don't know the extent of difference. You might want to call the restaurant to check.

Do you have a patio and if you do is it Dog friendly?

There is no patio

Can you order appetizers also with Omakase at the sushi bar? Or is it just Omakase?

Yes you can but they do give you an appetizer.

What is the dress code here?

This isn't a formal dress code. But most of the people I saw at dinner were dressed like they were out on a first date with someone slightly, but not unrealistically, out of their league.

Do you still require mask for dine in?

No not required

Does this restaurant require covid vaccination or negative test proof?

No as of 9/18!

Is there valet or a parking garage nearby?

No valet and no parking "garage," but there is street parking, even if you end up having to walk a couple/few blocks.

I would like to reserve on resy for the end of May but the times are not out. May I be able to call the restaurant to set a reservation ? Also it says that it only serves 75$ Omakase, does it include any drinks like alcohol? Thanks

Not sure about calling currently for reservations but I have found more success in the past doing so. The Omakase does not include drinks but they are available to purchase in addition to the meal. Appetizers are also offered for purchase.

Is Shiro's doing dine it during COVID? Or only takeout/delivery?

They are doing dine in also.

Could you make a reservation to do omakase at the sushi bar? If so, can this be done over the phone within the week?

You have to wait outside before they open and hope you are the first 11 or 12 people to get a seat at the Sushi bar. I made reservations for a table just in case

Can a gluten free food allergy be accommodated? I love this place, but my wife has celiac and needs gluten free options. Thank you!

Yes, my partner is also gluten free and they were very accommodating.

How much is the all you can eat and what schedule it is?

If you're thinking of the omakase, it's like making any other reservation, except at the sushi counter. The chef will serve you one piece at a time until you tell them to stop. You are charged by the price of each piece (it's not a fixed price).…

Anybody having a hard time making a reservation? I have been calling the past 2-3 days and still no answer?

Leave a voicemail or use a web form on their site to make a reservation 1 week in advance.

Is this place all you can eat?

No. This is a traditional sushi restaurant that focuses on nigiri and sashimi, not the Americanized rolls. Very expensive.

Phone is going straight to voicemail, are you guys open today?

Yes

How long is a wait when you go without a reservation?

I didn't have to wait. I went there 20 minutes before they opened for dinner on a weeknight. Got seated right away for table of two.

How much is omakase? Trying to buy a gift card for family~

$75pp before tax/tip

Does Shiro still own/manage/work here?

No, Shiro Kashiba sold his remaining stake in Shiro's to the I Love Sushi group in 2014. He has since opened a new restaurant in Pike Place Market called Sushi Kashiba, which he currently works at.

How long does the omakase last? I know it will vary depending how fast you eat. Reason I ask is because I'm trying to plan a trip and see if we can make it to an improve show.

It won't last more than 90 min. I ate every available fish (~35 pieces) and they stopped serving me.

Super great, totally the highlight of our food trip…read more So many dishes we didn't expect. Service: great, our lovely person was willing to have a conversation about how much food we ordered, as we were unsure about how much to get for a party of 5 and traveling--leftovers isn't a viable option. I will say, there are way too many nice folks clearing and not enough coverage for the tables. So order and then don't expect them to return for a minute, but not an issue, just an observation. Food: FANTASTIC! Nice free edamame to start! From soup to sushi, super great--the tempura is on point--no basic dishes here, only the very best. Seriously, I love salmon roe, and this was the best I've had, better than Kashiba (and that's saying a lot, if from the same provider, I'm just an idiot), wow!!! The fish liver was a little miss for me, but you don't see it a lot, and glad to try. Rolls, generous and perfect. Grilled fish--omg, Nobu has nothing on this, and at least half the price maybe (don't quote on that), and super nice size. We needed two orders of the seafood dumplings! All scallop and shrimp (as I recall) no filler. We'll be back from Portland just for these, money! Atmosphere: it's loud, and I mean loud, but it's the thing there, intentional and more of a "we didn't expect it" not a ding at all, people are having a great time and a vibrant place. I will say, if I came here again, we'd book the tatami room for a little separation as we are a larger and older group. Would recommend to anyone and super great prices!! Not to give too much away, but, 5 people stuffed on 5-Star food and maybe a little tipsy for around 50 bucks a person--in these times, yes!!!!

*Reservations are highly recommended*…read more The lobby and waiting area have one large and one short bench. After being called in, you walk down a short hallway and get seated. We chose the counter seats after waiting for 40 minutes in the lobby and was told it may be another 30 min to get a table. However, I strongly advise against them unless you're planning a quick lunch. The seats are extremely uncomfortable, and people constantly walk past you. Food we ordered: * Crispy rice sampler: A-OK. The tuna is chopped and smothered in spicy mayo and masago * Ahi tuna poke: Recommended! * Ora king salmon sashimi: Decent, kind of fishy though * Filet mignon plate: A-OK but not very filling * Ponyo roll: A-OK * Umi house roll: Would not recommend * Ginger chicken plate: Very salty and does not come with rice The ambiance here is moody and dark, with multiple seating options including a bar, sushi bar, main area, and semi-private floor seating. The food was decent, and the service was fine. The turnaround from ordering to receiving the food was relatively quick, taking about 10-15 minutes. Considering the quality of the food I experienced, their happy hour might be more worthwhile. However, at regular prices, I don't think it's a good deal.

The food was as amazing. Not a place I could afford to come to too frequently, but it's such a treat! Since my wife and I love sushi and were flying back home to LA the following morning, I immediately reserved a table for us at the restaurant for that same evening. Sushi Kashiba is known for its omakase, or chef's choice dinner. However, we went with the set tasting menu called "Peak" since we're not fans of surprises. The Peak option included 14 pieces of nigiri sushi, a cup of salmon roe garnished with wasabi, a fried shrimp head, 2 maki rolls, a light sashimi salad, and miso soup. Additionally, we ordered the tempura set which came with shrimp and assorted vegetables. We came here with high expectations, and this place did not disappoint. Every piece of sushi was a work of art-fresh and perfectly prepared. I've never had toro, tamago, and eel this good. And I've been to some highly regarded sushi restaurants in LA. I even enjoyed the shrimp head. It was crunchy and incredibly delicious. This isn't your typical neighborhood sushi spot. It's a high-end establishment that serves nothing but the best the world has to offer. For that privilege, it's going to cost you. The damage for our meal was over $450. And that was without any alcohol. However, it was totally worth it. I would most definitely come back here again if I were to ever return to the Emerald City.

I said yes, so I was seated in the Hannya Room (and happened to be wearing my Yakuza Majima sukajan with a hannya on the back) with a handful of other people (bar seating is very limited, maybe 12 seats tops, and the room is very narrow). The bartender was cool and offered to take our phones and take photos of the specials on the wall in the foyer so we all didn't have to walk back over there. I actually ended up getting one of the specials, the chicken katsu cutlet with beef curry. From the regular menu, I got a yaki onigiri and some gyoza (which are described as grandma's recipe and handmade), and from the bar I ordered the reggae punch cocktail (Iichiko saiten shochu, peach schnapps, and cold brew oolong tea). The regular menu is extensive, with a lot of comfort dishes and signature dishes I haven't seen elsewhere. Whether you want meat or seafood, there's something for everyone here. The meal was absolutely delicious. The only thing I didn't care for, unfortunately, was the yaki onigiri, because I felt the shoyu they used was just way too sweet. Yaki onigiri is one of my most favorite things on the planet, and Ippuku in Berkeley makes them perfectly. I was expecting the one at Maneki to be on that level, but I was disappointed. But other than that, the curry had great flavor and bit of a kick of heat, and wasn't skimpy on the beef. Lots of potato, too. The katsu was breaded and fried perfectly and the cutlet was pretty generously sized. The gyoza were great, not oily, each one stuffed with meat. I enjoyed the reggae punch and would order it again. I also ordered a glass of iced oolong, so I was feeling pretty refreshed on this warm afternoon with my two drinks. The bartender, who was handling both drinks and food service, was a nice guy with a good sense of humor. The owner also chatted with me on my way out and gave me a little history about why they decided to name the bar the Hannya Room, and some background on all the hannya masks on the wall in the bar. I'd love to come back here the next time I'm in Seattle, but especially to be able to dine in one of the tatami rooms. This was a great meal and it was awesome being able to support this important part of the local history of Seattle's Japantown.
