4.5 stars (5 for the price point). We tried the happy hour omakase (the 19 course, at a table/not at the counter) which is a great deal (their regular omakase is very affordable too, as compared to a lot of places especially NYC). It seems great for special occasions (we saw them coming by with a polaroid for those celebrating such as birthdays or anniversaries. I enjoyed how relaxed the vibes are at this place. I wish they had more cold tea options for the summer and more non-alcoholic drinks in general, but still had a great experience. The fish selection is fresh and the pieces are very manageable. It feels like there is a local touch with the salmon course/pieces. My husband is left handed and I was very impressed our waiter noticed and adjusted accordingly. I especially loved their soy sauce (which they said was house made). Fun little date night out and we really did enjoy it. Highly recommend making a reservation as that is what we did.

The sushi delivery here was SO bomb. I got the Salmon Combo ($38.50 on UberEats) and the Unagi Sashimi ($19.25). Hella expensive but you're paying for superior quality. I didn't eat in but the service and ambiance look nice - I know they're known for their eat-in omakase experience.

Finally tried Shiro's and I have to say, it was a pretty big let down. To be fair, we didn't do the bar seating and instead went for table reservations. Reservations during off peak dinner hours aren't too difficult to get on a weeknight and street parking was fairly easy to find. The omakase / tasting menu is 19 bites, which is a decent amount of food, but overall the fish quality was really disappointing. There were only about 4-5 pieces of nigiri that tasted fresh and clean; the white fish that you start with in particular were just not a fun texture or flavor. The shellfish course and sweet shrimp were solid though. Unfortunately, besides the fish, the rice was a total flop too. It just felt dried out as if they had been pre portioned well ahead of time and under seasoned. Part of the joy of a course menu, if you want slightly warm / room temperature rice against the cool fish, but you get zero of that contrast here.

I ordered through Ubereats and didn't have a dazzling experience like all the others. The things I ordered (see pic): 1) Tuna Combo - This is perhaps the most misleading bc if you look at the photo and description, it says "5 pieces of bluefin tuna nigiri and negitoro roll" - I did NOT get the negitoro rolls (it was just regular tuna) and also the toro nigiris pale in quality from what is depicted in their photo. 2) Salmon Combo - The salmon did not taste fresh at all. Mind you, this place is just a few blocks away from me but I was caught up in a work meeting and couldn't leave. 3) Tempura - Batter was tasteless and veggies were left to fry for too long (they were mushy). 4) Matcha tiramisu slice - Although a bit roughed up from delivery, was probably the best tasting item. TLDR: If you're ordering delivery, the fish is not fresh, the photos are misleading and the tempura is not good quaity and over fried. I would not recommend!

10/10 experience. This meal is something I will be talking about for quite some time. I made a reservation a month prior to make sure we could sit at the bar top, as it was for a special occasion. Their staff was friendly and extremely attentive as they refilled our drinks several times, and if we left the table they would refold our napkin before we returned. The food was out of this world. The chefs were extremely knowledgeable on their craft and educated us before each course. My personal favorite was the fatty tuna courses. I loved experiencing this restaurant from the bar top and watching the chefs do their craft. It is a pricey meal for sure but was one of the best experiences and well worth it!

We had a wonderful and special dinner at shiros! We opted for the 19 piece chefs sushi course. Our server explained to what each piece of fish was, its origin, the flavor profile, and if soy sauce was needed or not. Every bite was delicious. We ended with the hojicha tiramisu, the perfect ending to the meal.

It was our second time heading to Shiro's and another amazing experience. The sushi was fantastic and the service was exemplary. We were fortunate to have Jareen and were seated in the back room. Her little attention to detail was impressive from chatting with our teenage son who is shy (and autistic) so having him open out of his shell to seeing that he was left handed and plating the sushi in the correct direction for him to eat. The food tasted rich and vibrant with each piece of fish incredibly fresh and nuanced in its flavors. Our youngest was having it without the shoyu since he really wanted to taste the depth of flavor on its own. We always feel amply full after the 19 pieces with the courses being so well balanced. We started with a tempura appetizer and a karaage of black cod (if this is on the menu--order it!). It truly is an experience and looking forward to returning again in the future.

First time having the chef describe the preparation and origin of the fish in detail before serving it, Chef Taro leads a fun edutainment dinner for us. The chef described rare finds and special fish for us tonight, and I appreciate that he was able to accommodate a no wasabi preference for us too. Some light humor and small talk made the dinner feel light hearted and intimate. The restaurant service hands were also very attentive and respectful. Also on offer was a nigiri dessert which I have never seen. The house picked ginger was sweet and tangy, which is much better than the shaved ginger. Honestly they could bottle the stuff up and make big sales in the ginger market. There is a parking lot nearby, but we walked from the light rail station about 15 minutes away. More of a casual setting than upscale. At the end you get an option to take away a Polaroid picture as a souvenir. 20% service fee included, 70% of which goes to service staff.

Shiro's sushi is such a great spot for some high-end sushi! Bar omakase and table omakase offer different options but both are on the lower end of the cost spectrum relative to other omakase offerings in the city. So much love and quality goes into the service. Kurisu and Taro were such welcoming and friendly chefs. Highly recommend!

Amazing omakase experience. My favorites must've been chutoro, uni, ama ebi, and salmon. Staff and chefs were welcoming, warm, and friendly. We were seated promptly at the reservation time and were lucky enough to be seated in front of the head chef at the sushi bar. He took his time to get to know his guests and introduce each dish. There was a sense of community which I thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant was clean, homey and well organized, reminding me of Japan. Would highly recommend it to locals or those visiting Seattle alike.

been meaning to try this place for over a year and was never able to make it work. finally was able to secure a reservation during seattle restaurant week! it's not a big establishment, but it's very cozy inside; lightly decorated with japanese knick-knacks and trinkets by the entrance, especially. the chefs even greet you as you walk in, since you walk right into the sushi bar. that's just the beginning of the wonderful service, too. our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. she told us the specific order to eat each piece in (it differs depending on which hand is your dominant one -- ironically enough, i was the only right-handed person at my table), whether or not it needed soy sauce, what sauces/glazes/garnishes were on each piece, and where every fish was from. it was incredible. at $65 per person, each of us 19 thoughtfully chosen and beautifully crafted pieces of nigiri over five courses. i can say with confidence that this is some of the best sushi i've ever had. i'll be back.

Came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. He loves sushi, so I thought we'd try a new place. We arrived around 5 PM for our reservation, and it was quite busy since every table and bar seat was occupied. We started with the miso soup and carpaccio, then ordered the 19-piece chef's choice sushi course. We enjoyed the soup. It was perfect for a cold, rainy day. However, the wait between courses kind of took away from the experience. It felt like we were waiting about 10 minutes for each course, which made it hard to stay excited for what was coming next. Our dinner ended up taking about two hours, and honestly, it felt like we could have finished much sooner if the pacing between courses had been a little quicker. Out of the five courses, my favorite was definitely the second course, the Fuji salmon. It was delicious and the most memorable nigiri of the night. The rest of the courses were good, but we found ourselves comparing it to other sushi experiences we've enjoyed more. We ended dinner with the hojicha tiramisu, which was extremely delicious. I loved that it wasn't overly sweet. They also sang happy birthday to my boyfriend, which was a really thoughtful touch. Overall, the food was okay. I've had better service and sushi quality elsewhere, but I wouldn't mind coming back if someone invited me.

Came here for Valentine's Day dinner, and wow-what an experience. We had reservations (definitely the move on a holiday/weekend/special occasion), and from the moment we walked in, our experience was exceptional. The ambiance, the staff, the food.. all top tier. We ordered the Chef's Choice Sushi Course: 19 pieces of great quality nigiri served over 5 courses. This was my first omakase experience, and I was blown away. Every piece was explained well and our servers were friendly and walked us through how to enjoy each piece, including when to skip the shoyu. Everything was delicious, but a few standouts for me were the 1. Fuji Salmon, 2. Bluefin Tuna 4 Ways, 3. Madai, 4. Zuwaigani with Uni, (in no particular order). I'm already looking forward to coming back, and next time im hoping to snag a spot at the sushi bar for an even better experience.

    Shiro's Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Shiro's

Are the Nigri sushi served in the chef's choice sushi course and shiro's omakase different or basically the same?

My understanding is that the omakase sushi is different at the sushi bar versus at the tables in the dining room, but I don't know the extent of difference. You might want to call the restaurant to check.

Do you have a patio and if you do is it Dog friendly?

    There is no patio

Can you order appetizers also with Omakase at the sushi bar? Or is it just Omakase?

Yes you can but they do give you an appetizer.

What is the dress code here?

This isn't a formal dress code. But most of the people I saw at dinner were dressed like they were out on a first date with someone slightly, but not unrealistically, out of their league.

Do you still require mask for dine in?

    No not required

Does this restaurant require covid vaccination or negative test proof?

    No as of 9/18!

Is there valet or a parking garage nearby?

No valet and no parking "garage," but there is street parking, even if you end up having to walk a couple/few blocks.

I would like to reserve on resy for the end of May but the times are not out. May I be able to call the restaurant to set a reservation ? Also it says that it only serves 75$ Omakase, does it include any drinks like alcohol? Thanks

Not sure about calling currently for reservations but I have found more success in the past doing so. The Omakase does not include drinks but they are available to purchase in addition to the meal. Appetizers are also offered for purchase.

Is Shiro's doing dine it during COVID? Or only takeout/delivery?

They are doing dine in also.

Could you make a reservation to do omakase at the sushi bar? If so, can this be done over the phone within the week?

You have to wait outside before they open and hope you are the first 11 or 12 people to get a seat at the Sushi bar. I made reservations for a table just in case

Can a gluten free food allergy be accommodated? I love this place, but my wife has celiac and needs gluten free options. Thank you!

Yes, my partner is also gluten free and they were very accommodating.

How much is the all you can eat and what schedule it is?

If you're thinking of the omakase, it's like making any other reservation, except at the sushi counter. The chef will serve you one piece at a time until you tell them to stop. You are charged by the price of each piece (it's not a fixed price).…

Anybody having a hard time making a reservation? I have been calling the past 2-3 days and still no answer?

Leave a voicemail or use a web form on their site to make a reservation 1 week in advance.

Is this place all you can eat?

No. This is a traditional sushi restaurant that focuses on nigiri and sashimi, not the Americanized rolls. Very expensive.

Phone is going straight to voicemail, are you guys open today?

    Yes

How long is a wait when you go without a reservation?

I didn't have to wait. I went there 20 minutes before they opened for dinner on a weeknight. Got seated right away for table of two.

How much is omakase? Trying to buy a gift card for family~

    $75pp before tax/tip

    Does Shiro still own/manage/work here?

No, Shiro Kashiba sold his remaining stake in Shiro's to the I Love Sushi group in 2014. He has since opened a new restaurant in Pike Place Market called Sushi Kashiba, which he currently works at.

How long does the omakase last? I know it will vary depending how fast you eat. Reason I ask is because I'm trying to plan a trip and see if we can make it to an improve show.

It won't last more than 90 min. I ate every available fish (~35 pieces) and they stopped serving me.

I love this concept. I'm not much of a roll person bc it's always pricey and then you have to eat all 6-8 pieces, so this was right up my alley. We loved it so much, we came here 2x when we were in Seattle. And even our first time we had to get seconds. All the sushi from the beginning are rolls, and near the end they are nigiris. So save some space for the good stuff at the end. The first time during lunch hour, they kept restocking the sushi, and they even had bluefin tuna nigiri at the very end! Score!! I'm more of a nigiri person so I got half rolls and half nigiri. Of course this isn't like fancy restaurant sushi, but more of like casual dining sushi and bc there were so many people, it was fresh bc it was a high turnover. Sushi quality was decent. The other time we went was during dinner of 1 hour before they close, the selection wasn't as good as they didn't have bluefin tuna nigiri, but still worth it and didn't cost us an arm and leg to get sushi.
