Online Ordering System Needs Attention I'm leaving this review because this has now happened multiple times and it's clearly not a one-off issue. Every time I place an order through the online ordering system, it provides a specific pickup time. However, when I arrive at that time, the order is almost never ready. Instead, I'm told it will be another 10-30 minutes. At that point, the pickup time in the system becomes meaningless and defeats the entire purpose of ordering ahead. To be fair, the bagels themselves are good, which is the reason I've continued coming back. But the online ordering timing is consistently inaccurate and needs attention. From what I can see, it often feels like the order isn't even started until I arrive. The staff is clearly busy, but the workflow and prioritization of online orders doesn't seem to be managed well. The team often appears rushed and working reactively rather than following a clear process. This feels like a management and operations issue rather than a problem with the employees themselves. If the kitchen is running behind, the system should reflect realistic pickup times so customers can plan accordingly. I'm hoping management sees this feedback and looks into the process. Despite cashier Alan's assurance that my order would be prioritized, I waited approximately 5-6 minutes for my bagel. Upon receiving the bagel, I discovered that the cheese was not melted and the ham was cold. I had to just reheat the bagel. The employee's lack of attention during my wait was evident. Such an experience should not be endured by any employee during their lunch break. Consequently, I will refrain from returning to the establishment and intend to contact management to address this issue. The ambiance was great! Been here a million times and for some reason have yet to write a review! Love their bagel and cream cheese selection as well as their breakfast sandwiches. You can buy singles or get bagel boxes to-go. Lines get long, so definitely order ahead by phone or online if you can. There are some seats inside, but it gets pretty loud. There's small tables outside if you want to eat your bagel onsite or have a pet with you. Parking can be tight on weekend mornings so plan accordingly! read more

These are authentic New York style bagels. The boiling gives it the thick and chewy skin that locks in some moisture to keep everything tender inside. Pleasantly surprised that they had pumpernickel so I had one of those double toasted with butter and everything double toasted with butter. The everything had the toppings on the bottom too so full everything bagel experience, whether or not you eat the top or the bottom, this is the right way to do it. The wait was a lot longer then I expected. Very cute bagel place in Costa Mesa. I ordered a twice toasted bagel with cream cheese on one saide and butter on the other with red onion. I was ok. Best bagels in Newport Beach, no doubt. I've been coming here for years and I'll be coming here for the next ten, easy. It doesn't matter what you order. Lox bagel, plain bagel with cream cheese, anything. Today I went with the jalapeño cheddar bagel and whipped cream cheese and it was exactly what I wanted. The bagel has that golden, baked-in cheddar crust with bits of jalapeño throughout, soft on the inside with a nice chew. The whipped cream cheese is thick and spread edge to edge, creamy without being heavy, and it works perfectly with the heat from the jalapeño. Every bite feels balanced and filling without being overdone. There's always a wait here, especially on weekends, but it's worth it every time. I don't always go to Shirley's but when I do, I usually get the Turkey Avocado. Apparently everyone had the same idea on the 4th of July, so when I arrived there was a long line, but it was hard to tell that it was actually 2 lines - one to order at the counter and one for phone/online pickup. I ended up ordering online because the in person line was pretty long. Once I ordered, it was still a 25-30 min wait so I ran over to Starbucks to get coffee. It's pretty packed inside and the workers don't use a microphone so you really have to be listening for your name which was kind of annoying and it's very cramped inside because it's packed. The sandwich itself was very delicious and filling. Just make sure you have a lot of time to hang out and wait if you visit Shirley's on the weekend or a holiday. read more

This was just an average bagel shop. My daughter wanted to get a bagel for lunch so I said okay, and we found this place. She asked for a sesame seed bagel, and she declined any cream cheese. I ordered the chicken pesto panini. They were pretty busy since we came right at lunchtime on a Saturday, so it took around 10 minutes or so for my panini to be ready. Be careful though sometimes they overcook the bagels and then overcoats them so they taste a bit burnt so if this bothers you (like it does me) then ask for them lightly toasted. I like how they have salt bagels (those are the most moist/soft) and I often get those or the everything bagels toasted with cream cheese although they have yummy sandwiches too. I also like their wide variety of beverages and other non-bagel items. Even though there is normally a long wait most of the people get their items to go so there has always been room at the plentiful number of tables inside to sit at when I've gone here.
