Popped in this morning around 11:30. Asked for two donuts and a large plain coffee. Was charged a stroke-inducing $9.90. These were not fancy donuts. No foo-foo coffee drink. ****** Just two donuts and a coffee. $10 I know things have skyrocketed since the pandemic BUT THIS IS GOUGING LEVEL prices. I was stunned. I asked her (politely), "Nine ninety for two donuts and a coffee? That... seems a little high." I asked because 1) I may have been having a mini aneurysm and 2) people are people and make mistakes sometimes. I thought perhaps she'd rung up my order incorrectly. But, n'yope. She just gestured at the donuts and mumbled something about "This donut..." then her voice tapered off. I'm still not sure what she meant. Maybe these were not ordinary donuts? This is my favorite place to go by my work. The owner is so sweet. They have iced coffee that isn't pre-sweetened which is great. The donuts are fluffy and never greasy. It was very serendipitous we found this place, since we were in a hurry and we were going to try another nearby coffeeshop for breakfast but the line was out the door. So we swooped over to Newport Donuts and stepped right up, were greeted by friendly helpful employees, ordered a delicious Sausage Cheese Egg breakfast sandwich which was big and tasted fresh and hardy. Not powdered eggs or fake sausage. The real deal here!! We also ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee. It was all so good, we splurged on a dozen Donuts for our church and that was all met with such quick help. BY the time we left, the line was out the door. We were just in time! but they were moving that line so fast it was way quicker compared to the first place we went. Ordered the ham, cheese, jalapeño croissant and it was not good. The croissant was like a soft doughy bread versus the flakey layers I'm used to eating a croissant. The inside had 1 piece of ham folded with 4 jalepenos stuffed just in the middle with cheese. So, only the middle 1/4 of the entire croissant had filling. Very disappointed. Donuts were very basic. The guy that works there gave me complete anxiety. Did not speak any English so it was hard to understand him. so I left with more anxiety than I came in with. I walked into this donut shop around 10am on a Monday morning and ordered a single glazed donut. To my surprise the donut felt warm and fresh! My first bite into the donut and it was the best donut I had ever had - it was airy, chewy, and sugary! I loved the donut so much I walked back in to order a second glazed donut for my sister. After a long 6 hour drive home, I finally gave my sister the donut and after all those hours the freshness was still there!!! I highly recommend coming here for all your sweet tooth needs! Moved to Mission Viejo and I'm already missing my beloved donut shop. They offer a great selection of delicious donuts and croissant sandwiches, the staff is so friendly and d they always throw in a couple extra donut holes with your order, which is fun. I love this place. The donuts are the best in Costa Mesa. I love the orange one. It's so yummy. Another favorite of mine is the croissant. They are huge and soft and flaky and moist. I hosted 45 people for thanksgiving, and Nora was kind enough to make me mini versions of her croissants as dinner rolls for me. She even baked up samples and sent pictures to me. She totally went above and beyond. My guests raved about them, and they made the best turkey leftover sandwiches ever. I read some reviews criticizing the owner/staff here, and I was blown away because they are so nice. What I have paid attention to though is how rude some customers can be- what do you expect? That you can be rude to staff, and have them be nice back? No. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Customer service doesn't mean customer servant. read more

Okay... So I live not to far from this place and the real estate catches the eye of a business professional on their way to work as they are conveniently located by the freeway. This morning, I decided to give this place a go. I ordered a premade bacon croissant and a Vietnamese iced coffee. That's it, just 2 things, for a grand total of $10. A little taken back, I payed for my things and I even tipped them because ya know, I'm not an asshole. I told myself it was for the greater good, as I am BIG on supporting family owned businesses. Ooof... Mistake number 1 was getting the coffee, it tasted BURNT and was super bitter, I have not been able to drink it. The croissant was mediocre at best, really greasy and the egg upset my stomach. Overall, I'm glad I let my curiosity lead me here. I got this one donut that I want forever now, it was a simple chocolate frosted bar and they had cut it in half across the chocolate and piped in cream. It was fantastic!! I also got a typical old fashioned, and an apple fritter for my partner who said it was the best apple fritter he'd ever had. I got the sausage and bacon croissant and he got the turkey croissant and they were both fantastic. The croissant was buttery and flaky, the insides cooked perfectly. We don't normally get donuts here. But it was close to our hotel. I have to say they were very good and not greasy. They had everything we asked for but when I asked for Bavarian the very confused woman told me they don't make Bavarian. Although I was pointing at one. So I asked her if they were out.. thinking the one on display was only a display.. nope she said they don't make them. I said ok then what's that?? (Pointing at it) she said "donut". Ummm.. ok. Maybe it's the language barrier? It's Asian owned and communication might be the problem? Anyways.. other than that, the 4 stars is due to price. I feel like $8.50 was a lot for 2 donuts.
