Usually one of the best Shipley's in Houston, but today I received this awful kolache. I was halfway done with this loaf of bread before I had to ask myself, "Where's the boudin?" And, for some reason, they didn't have cake donuts on this day. Overall it was the worst experience I've had going to this Shipley's. i didn't think that shipley donuts were different from shop to shop but THIS location in particular changed my mind. maybe it's the retro donut logo out front, maybe it's the non traditional shop it sit's in where it's more of a counter order shop with a make-shift to-go window on the side. all i have say is the donuts here are RIDICULOUSLY awesome. when the donuts are just made, they can't close the box because they are still warm so they don't want it to lose it's crispyness. the fact that they had to wipe the box down because it was oozing with frosting, c'mon that's when you know it's heaven-made. it's buttery, crispy and sweet on the outside and goo-ey and hot on the inside. i can't explain it. all i know is that this place is legit when the glazed donuts are hot off the press. after work around 5pm, you'll see a line of people getting these donuts. they know what's up. read more

This is the best location to go to, since you can get hot and fresh donuts majority of the time. The line can be ridiculous sometimes, especially when it spills out into the street it can be a bit dangerous. Every time we're in the area, we can't help but stopping here for a dozen glazed. :) Most recently, we visited this Shipley's on a Saturday morning at 3am, I promise we weren't drinking, we just craved these donuts lol The lady told us that they open at 3am but they have fresh donuts ready in about 20 mins after they open (good to know) lol When you go sooooo early in the morning like we did, they don't have kolaches or anything besides their delicious donuts and coffee. Food was on par with shipleys quality and taste. Staff wasn't the friendliest though. I'm deducting a star because I HATE HATE HATE their drive-thru. They need to remodel their building and place it on the other side, so that the line wraps AROUND their building, and they can take orders before people get up to the window. As it stands now, people are constantly backing up onto the main road and causing traffic problems. I'll be back again. read more

I highly recommend their hot glaze donuts. Not the ones on the rack that you see when you walk in. The hot glaze are sitting in the back because they are cooling. The glaze will run off into your bag/box and be just right when you get home to enjoy them. Also, expect a wait inside and drive-thru if you go weekend mornings. read more

This location is really small and has a drive through. Parking lot is very small so you'll have to park in the surrounding areas of the other businesses around it. Jalapeno kolaches aren't listed on the menu but they have it, unless I've missed it. The service was very quick and even though I changed my mind over the kolache meats, the lady was really patient with me so I appreciated that. Nonetheless, kolaches at shipleys are my personal favorite. :) I like the sausage, cheese and jalapeno kolaches. read more

I love this Shipleys! I mean I love all shipleys, but this one is for sure one of the best!! The drive through line can get a little ling, but it is super worth it!! It is not uncommon that the line flows into the street, but it does move pretty fast. The donuts are delicious and always hot and fresh!! The sausage and cheese kolaches are my other favorite and super good! I mean I have never had anything here that I didn't love. I have gone to get just one chocolate frosted donut and it was only 62 cents. How awesome is that?! They are always super consistent and not a place you will go once and get terrible food. Shipley is one of my favorite donut places. They have the most fresh, delicious donuts, and their kolaches have the best bread on them. This Shipley is always packed. The drive-thru line frequently pours out of the parking lot onto Ella. We usually avoid the line by going directly inside. While also packed, it tends to be a little quicker. The staff are not super friendly. A lady cut in front of about 4 people waiting in line and they still served her despite seeing the long line of people, but I guess that is what happens when you are trying to move people out of there so quickly. Sure, they aren't the best I've ever had, but for cheap donuts and kolaches it is a solid place. read more

Have always loved this place but I think I just might be done with them. 9 times out of 10, when I pull up to the window, the girl/woman just sits there and GLARES at me. I wait a second to see if she will speak, she doesn't, so I give my order. She tells me the price but that is the only thing that comes out of her mouth. I thank HER hoping to get some sort of response but nope, nothing. It is not the same person every time so it appears to be their policy to see just how rude they can be. I don't care how good the donuts or kolache are, that just ruins the experience and puts a damper on my day to start out being treated like that. I stopped into Shipley's Donuts on Ella Blvd this morning with hopes of being in and out in 10. They were not busy so I was thankful. I walked in and no one acknowledged me for a couple minutes. Then once I was I asked for 6 glazed and I wanted to pick 6 others. She just stared at me. Then got a large box and then turned again and said which so you want?? Again I said 6 glazed and I will pick the others. Then she said they cost!!? I said yes I know I want to pick them and the price is fine. Then she proceeded to disassemble the new box and. Put it back and then grab another. Finally I get the six misc and now she walks away and leaves me standing there. 15 minutes in and I still don't have the glazed. 3 more guests and the drive up are in and out. She finally comes back and proceeds to Bag them and starts to walk away. I said excuse me but don't you have napkins. ) I have never been here when they didn't put a pile of napkins in the bags). No acknowledgement of this she just grabbed them and put them in (mo eye contact or words) and again walked away. 22 minutes to get 1 dozen and I really felt like I was imposing on them!! I'll admit that there is a long line outside all the time. It stops up traffic on Ella frequently, but I understand why. Of all the Shipley's in the city of Houston, it is the best! The same person has run it for years and everything there tastes AMAZING. The hot/warm glazed donuts are spectacular and people drive long distances for this particular Shipley's. The kolaches are amazing too. The bread just tastes so much better than the other places. If you don't like donuts, that's fine. But you shouldn't hack on a business for doing well just because it messes up the traffic. read more

I had driven past this Shipleys for over 25 years because of the super tiny building I failed to think anything good could come out of this place . Well I know now not to judge a book by its cover. These are simply the best doughnuts in Houston no wonder they've been at this location for so long. If you're trying to go north on Ella in the morning, you may experience a traffic backup at 34th St. Why, you ask? It's the drivethrough line at Shipley's blocking the road and spilling all the way into the intersection. While this traffic issue may be a problem, Shipley's makes up for it with their delicious treats. There's no better glazed donut around, and the service is fast and friendly. The drivethrough line is intimidating, but it does move quickly. However, I have gotten faster service by just parking and going inside. Plus, if you go in, you can see the donuts being made fresh, which is somewhat entertaining. Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' have nothing on this place. Check it out! read more
