They are proof that sometimes "fancier " isn't better . They don't have elaborate character donuts or nice facilities but man they know how to make the best donuts/ and donut holes you've ever had! I am not even a "donut person"- I know I know , how unamerican of me! And what do I mean by that is I will always turn down a donut - with no problem , and if you ask me if I want donuts I will always say no. But the 1-2 x's a year I could go for a donut .. I love this little shop. Always fresh donuts and honestly tastes better than Shirley's. They are also cheaper to me than Shipley's. However, they do add 50cents to your total under $5. I really enjoy the Vietnamese Coffee as well. Service is always great, quick and easy. read more

Had been meaning to try this mom and pop donut shop down the street from us and it didn't disappoint! We got the glazed donut, blueberry cake, apple fritter, chocolate sprinkles-all were fantastic! The donuts all live up to the hype. The apple fritter was the best I've had. We also got the kolaches which were ok to me, but I'd highly recommend the croissants! We got a ham and cheese croissant and a sausage and cheese croissant and both were delish. Will def be getting those again. Employees were super nice. Will def be back and it will be our home donut shop! read more

I've lived in Texas my whole life, these are the best kolaches I've ever had by far. I am a repeat visitor and they are always perfect and amazing. The bread is so soft, almost like a Hawaiian roll! And the sausage is super yummy too, jalapeno is the best! read more

Came in once early in the morning to be rudely ignored by a female employee who I greeted, who wouldn't greet me back, nor serve me and pretended as though I didn't exist until I tried to speak to her about ordering when she just left to the back of the store for no apparent reason, I was confused and unsure of what I did or what to do so I simply left without getting anything. Felt like a fever dream and I'm not sure what was wrong with her that day, she only cleaned around me and heavily sighed and eye rolled and groaned. Small donut shop with the most incredible ham and cheese croissant. They will warm it for you and it's so good!! I will say don't go too late in the morning as they sell out of the ham and cheese croissants. They prefer cash so hit up the atm before you go but it's not a requirement! read more

TLDR: Get the glazed. Get a kolache. This changed my 70-year-old dad's life, they are so good. Truly, these are some of the most incredible donuts my family and I have ever had, anywhere. Texture is SOFT, stretchy, pillows. Incredible dough. Flavor is not too sweet!!! Even the glazed is juuuust sweet enough and you don't feel like you're going to die from too much sugar. I'm so glad we found an amazing donut & kolache shop in the Heights other than Shipleys! Overall, great small shop with a large variety. Maple Bacon Donut: Great balance of sweet and salty. The bacon was still light and crispy when we ate it, and the maple icing was not overly sweet. Blueberry Cake Donut: These are my go to! Fluffy donut filled with blue berries and lightly coated with icing. They smell so good! Boudin Kolache: There's not a lot of places that offer this. I only know two places, and this place is now my favorite. Great flavor and ratio of rice and meat. Apple Fritter: This was cooked perfectly. Usually, I see residual oil and grease from apple fritters, but this one did not. Great flavor of apples and cinnamon, but again not overly sweet read more

In all my years of adoring kolaches, I have yet to find a more affordable and less addicting contender for the "Slap ya mama" award. Serious. The family that runs this spot is friendly, fast and patient. The shop itself is quaint and perfectly "donut-shoplike", just as you'd expect. I personally recommend the ham+cheese croissant, literally any kolache, and their apple fritters are pretty freakin mean. In a good way. Warm it up please! The jumbo jalopeno kolache from Queen Donut is one of my Top 3 favorite foods in Houston. I love everything about this place. The owners are fantastic, the prices are reasonable, and DID I MENTION THE KOLACHES?! The donuts and baked cinnamon roll are great as well. The line can be out the door during peak times, but still I'm always in and out in about 5 minutes. It can be a little busy in the morning, but they keep the line moving & do it with a smile. Prices are very fair & those kolaches are sooo good! Especially the croissant options. Family owned, everyone is always super nice, and the kolaches are THE BEST I've ever had in Houston. The pastry dough is incredibly soft and delicious - the dough reminds me of this coconut pastry bread I used to get back in NY...but I digress... Favorite things to get - small jalapeno kolache + strawberry frosted donut w/ sprinkles + the thick cinnamon bun. Also..do not sleep on the boudin kolaches - they are crazy tasty! It may not look like much on the outside, but this place is a hidden gem! The donuts here are always fresh with plenty of variety on offer to fit any taste. I have a hard time not buying one of everything when I come - it all looks so good! I especially enjoy their apple fritters and kolaches - the dough is exceptional on the kolache! You can call ahead ir drive through! If they are fresh, buy a dozen or two for your friends and give them a thrill ! Not as inexpensive as they used to be! This food from heaven ( only of freshly made) is now a place to buy a couple donuts for many! Sit at one of the two tables and talk or drive through- The oh's days, just a couple years ago , we all bought a dozen or two ,later a half dozen - now we buy one or two. Not bad earned up, just not the same delight as freshly made! Go in to this clean nice establishment while you can still afford one or two! A sweet clean place conveniently on your way to or back ! It is worth a taste - just make it fresh!!

In fact, when friends visit from out of town I'm going to take them to this (and only this) location to experience Shipley in its best form. When I tell you, all the I's are dotted and the t's are crossed at this location I mean it! I truly wouldn't be surprised if they trained new franchise owners at this very location because pretty much everything is elevated or on point. Pup in tow I chose the drive-thru. Pulling up to the order speaker I was greeted with an automated we'll be with you shortly message. After placing and receiving my order I opened the box and nearly audibly gasped. I've ordered one too many Shipleys Bullseyes in my day, but I've yet to see one that looked this perfect. The middle seemed piped. I also ordered two cake donuts, a buttermilk for now and blueberry for later. Both were delightful! The slight language barrier at the receiving window had me a bit worried, but this spot delivered. I'll be back on my next cheat day!

Now, here you are going to get a fresh product and no matter the line or how big the order, it never really takes a long time to receive your goodies. They are very skilled at getting you in and out. When they run out of an item for the day your best bet is to come again the next day if you're still craving that item. The confession is coming...... but first.... The doughnuts are always fresh and never greasy. I love their plain cake donuts and their glazed twists with the cinnamon sugar already in the dough. Quite nice. The blueberry cake donut is nice as well. About that confession...... gimme one second.... Now I absolutely dislike kolaches but sometimes I can tolerate the ones here. I rarely get them. When I do I can appreciate the savory sausage in the sweet dough. I will dip it in ketchup and mustard. They also have a kolache with brisket and cheese in it that is pretty tasty but I don't get it often. Now....... Confession: At what age is drinking chocolate milk a no no? I have almost always gotten a chocolate milk with my order even though I should have grown out of the chocolate milk phase. The brand they keep here is delicious! Although I don't come here on a regular basis, when I do, I enjoy a cold cup of chocolate milk. That is all. Do come and enjoy a treat.
