Was in the area for a convention and saw on my TooGoodToGo app this place nearby, so I thought it be nice as a little sweet breakfast for the next morning! As you've heard from the reviews it's a little mom and pop shop which I absolutely LOVE and support (as should everyone). Super friendly greeting and service and I was given a large box and some bags as part of the TGTG order which WOWZA there was a whole lotta food. But hey it's not just about the quantity right, how's the quality? Now look, it's a pretty safe statement to say a majority of people love sweets right? You can say you're not a big fan sure and you have other preferences but like biologically when that sugar hits the tongue it's happy times in the brain. But in Asian culture (speaking personally) it's the less sugary sweets that we LOVE. It's like taking a regular items sweetness level and adjusting it to like 50-75%, and that to us is GAS. To get to the point, of the items I tried (blueberry glazed donut, chocolate donut, maple/cinnamon glazed donut) it actually really satisfied my taste buds. Ofc if you get super frosted double dunked glazed donuts those are gonna be super sweet but the classics are hitting pretty good ngl. OH I'll end it on the kolache with the jalapeños and cheese. Okay I swear to you, I've eaten my fair share of kolaches in college right but this one ranks top 3 and I ate it COLD (too lazy to microwave). This was very close to my place of employment so I decided to come here before heading home. The reviews were really great and unfortunately they let me down. Womp womp! The blueberry donut was a little on the small size and cute. The donut twist was regular size. So, the first bite of each was instantly off putting. They tasted dreadful of old grease. I visited here since I was in the area. I usually get kolaches as opposed to donuts, so when I entered and saw they had at least 3 different sausages to choose from, I was thrilled. I went with the tried and true chappel hill sausage jalapeño and cheese kolache and a cinnamon iced coffee. The iced coffee was okay, but the yummy kolache more than made up for it. The search is over. This is the holy grail of jalapeño cheese Kolaches right here. It is singularly the best kolache i've had, and it definitely won't be the last, either. The first bite into the pillowy dough and peppery sausage wiped the chuckle I had upon seeing the sign at entrance ("The best food in town according to the mom and founder") and with it any skepticism I had had. Instantly made it into my Best of Houston list on Yelp. And as if this were not enough, the filled lemon doughnut - a staple by which I judge a donut shop, among glazed doughnuts and kolaches- I was almost scared I'd be disappointed after the amazing kolache, yet this thing blew me away. Firstly, look at the amount of the filling in this doughnut. It's like they squeezed a whole lemon universe into it. Secondly, the flavor! I absolutely hate artificial flavoring, and this was far from the regular donut chain filling. Scrumptious. I'll have to run an extra mile, but scrumptious. The place opens at 4:30am, so there's no excuse on not getting one, perhaps other than that these will become repeat offenders to the waistline. Very good apple fritters! I find most people fall into one of two camps on fritters: 1) burnt or very dark is best (crunchy outside, moist inside, etc) 2). Very dark tastes burnt or like old fryer. I tend to fall into the 2nd camp but this joint blurs the line with a darker fritter that did not taste burnt.
