The quality has gone down tremendously over the years. Just have to catch it on the right day.

The place is lethal to live too close to !!! Piping hot, melt in your mouth donuts from 5am--Midnight 7 days a week . Shipley's has been my favorite glazed donut since childhood. read more

I love this Shipley's but their boudain kolaches need more boudain! I bit into mine and it was maybe 10% boudain and 90% bread. The filling was only around the outside. These kolaches aren't cheap and I didn't buy them for the bread! read more

After passing this location on multiple occasions and always encountering a long line of cars waiting on Ella, I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about. Like other reviewers, I felt the quality of this location was a step above all other Shipleys! Hot, fresh, and delicious -- I tried the traditional glazed donut, a blueberry glazed, and a (huge!) Apple fritter. When I'm in the donut mood in the future, I can guarantee you I'll pass on other donut shops and head straight to Shipley on Ella! read more

Found a long piece of straight hair on my cinnamon roll. It was darn near "baked" onto the donut because it was under the icing. Nasty, unsanitary, and horrible. read more

It doesn't have a huge variety but if you want a donut then you can try this. There are the normal choices here, old fashioned, glazed and chocolate glazed. Some different shapes but nothing exciting. read more

I think if you visit Houston, you have to try Shipley, right?!??!! I think I went to the og spot so it was tiny..... but you can see them making fresh donuts. My girlfriend order a couple of blueberry cake donuts and a original glazed donut. The glazed donut was freshly made and it was hot and delicious. The sugary glaze seemed it was still melting. The donut was so light and fluffy.... like a cloud... if a cloud was sugary and warm and delicious. The blueberry cake donut was quite impressive also. Extremely light and flavorful.. not too sweet so you could probably eat like 4 of them without an issue. Overall an awesome place to grab some donuts for an affordable price. read more

This is by the worst location of Shipley's in houston. Service has gone down substantially in the morning. Expect low quantities of popular items by 6 am. Drive thru has tanked on speed because management refuses to adapt. This is a small location and drive thru will have cars parked on Ella waiting. Chick Fil A uses technology to speed up drive through experience. Whataburger uses two lanes. McDonald's uses two drive through menus so orders can be placed and processed faster. On average 100K a year is what a franchise owner will make at Shipley's. This place has plenty of money and is in a great location in an industrial park area along with neighborhoods next door. It's clear there is little to NONE reinvestment back into the franchised owned business. This place is rated 4.5 stars but I would imagine a lot of the reviews are fake or from past years. This location is extremely slow and unprepared. This is a real review of this place and the experience to expect. City should step in at some point and require expansion to get cars off of Ella and not cause dangerous environments, hazards, or traffic jams. Food quality is great and never been an issue but the planning, quality, and execution of the services are horrible. If the owner reads this please spend the extra money to get an upgraded technology system that will speed up drive through. It's a few thousand dollars and a retainer fee for a technology company to run the IT for you. Customer experience will be better and not shy people away when they see a snake of cars going from building all the way down to Ella and 34th Street. read more

Shipley Do-Nuts - melt In your mouth Glazed Doughnut - Donuts Near Me - Houston, Texas

These are the best Shipley Do-nuts in Houston... It's not clear why they are so good, but they are better than any other Shipley's and maybe the best donuts in the area. Maybe the original equipment? Or extra glaze under frosting? Not sure, but you won't be disappointed in the flavor--though you may have to wait in line. read more

Hands down the best Shipley's Do-Nuts! If you go to Kroger, the back of their receipts will give you a dozen of donut holes for free with a purchase of a dozen donuts. Their donuts are so fluffy and perfect. I like their jalapeño kolaches too. You can't go wrong with these food fixes. However, do not get their boudin Kolache. Maybe because I'm from Louisiana, but the boudin is not good. read more

This is my favorite Shipley location. It's a old, nostalgic building that has obviously been there for decades and has probably served millions of fresh, delicious donuts. They always have hot donuts available and there is always a long line that extends out onto Ella Dr... the best of the Shipley locations. BOTTOM LINE: Some of the world's best donuts. read more

I had to rate this Shipley's a one because of the customer service I experienced. Today my friend and I went to go order some food, and the lady that took our order was really rude. She came outside to take the order and seemed disinterested. The entire time she was taking the order from my friend, she wasn't writing anything down, she was looking away towards the sun yet shielding her eyes from the sun and doing everything in her power to let it be known that she did not want to be taking our order. She then interrupted my friend in the middle of the order, smacked her lips and said "Just finish your order at the window." My friend and I live near by so this is not the first time we have gone to Shipley's together and unfortunately it is not the first time that this employee has been rude and curt with myself or my friend. Additionally, I am teachers so I will often frequent this Shipley's to get donuts for my students, and I dread every time this employee takes my order because I have never received decent customer service from her. Despite the terrible customer service from this employee, the food is overall really good. Interactions I have had with the other employees in the past have been positive. However, I feel they need to give the rude employee a task that does not involve interacting with customers because she clearly hates it. read more

I am giving a rating of a two solely based on the quality of the product I received. Outside of that the customer service was terrible. They sent someone outside to take our order and she was not attentive at all, looking away, not writing things down, huffing and puffing like my order was taking to long (mind you she was only outside for no more than 2 minutes) and i get it, it's Houston and it's hot, but tell your employers not to send you outside, no need to be rude with the customers. Then as I am in the middle of me ordering she interrupts me to smack her lips and say "just finish at the window." Not even "Hey would you be able to finish your order at the window." Not to mention this has been a repeated pattern with this employee. Every time I have gone and she has taking my order she has been EXTREMELY rude. Which is saddening as this is the nearest shipleys to me and arguably the best one food wise. But they need to get that worker together or leave her inside because she clearly does not like her job. read more

I've been going to this location for 13 years, well worth the wait. Going inside is faster than drivethru. Shipley donuts are just awesome. I'd still take a left over 1 day old Shipley's doughnut over a fresh Dunkin' Donut. Fresh kolachies both plain and jalapeño. Their bear claws are a fam favorite. read more

BEST LOCATION for fresh donuts (plain glazed)! Even open late for after hour cravings. I usually eat two before I make it home lol

Donuts and service is amazing! This is my go-to donut spot ! I've been here about 4 times and every time the donuts have been amazing!

The Shipley Do-Nuts location off Ella is the only good one. If you know you know! The jalapeño Kolache's are so good

I have tried this place numerous times in 16 years and always go back to the Queen Donuts on 18th St. Shipleys can't compare to how good they are. I'm a big donut hole fan and Shipleys are heavy, light on glaze and not nearly as tender as the Queen. read more

Simply the best anywhere. You put an order in and you wait for a fresh batch of drenched in glorious glaze donuts. Once I ordered an extra single because I didn't want to break the dozen till they arrived at their destination, and I had to wait for that (1) single too. I opted not to, but the mere fact put a smile on my face. Amazing, I'm glad I live 50 miles away, because I love those lipids. read more

I came here around 11:00 am midweek. Purchased a kolache, 2 donuts. Loved everything. The donuts to me are the best in Houston. No matter what time of day you get here. The glazed donuts seems as if they are freshly cooked. Never have to second guess this place. I will pass by 10 shipleys to get to this one. P.s. The yeast is not dry nor tough. read more

I have tried a lot of Shipley's do-nuts in the Houston area, and this one out of all of them is the best. The kolaches and do-nuts are always given to you nice and warm like they were just made. Also donut holes they give you more than a dozen and fill the bag compared to others where they count them and only give you exactly 12. I've been coming here since high school and know when they're not donuts from my favorite Shipley's on Ella. read more

This place is so great to Waltrip High School. The girl's soccer team will have a fundraiser next Saturday again for the 2nd year in a row. The owner gives all his profits during that time to the team. The band has already had a fundraiser there many times before. read more

Came to this Shipley's to treat my nephews since they have never been to a donut shop before. We were being rushed and the employee complained that my nephews were having a tough time deciding. As they are 6&10 years old... the lady spoke Spanish and told these two other customers that "we were taking too long and she doesn't get why we are making the kids choose what donut they like." She didn't know I understood but she should keep that to herself as the store was empty and only one other customer had already ordered. I was disappointed due to this being the boy's first time at a donut shop and they speak Spanish as well even though they don't look like it. Will not be coming here again! read more

I've been coming to this location since I was a teen. However, over the last couple of years the customer service has decreased and become sub par. I want to be clear, I do not expect anything outstanding, just basics like hello and a smile. That doesn't happen. Also, if you request fresh & hot donuts out of the oven of course, (that's the only reason why you come) and if they aren't ready or available they'll make them. But they'll having a major attitude like it's an inconvenience to them even if you ask them kindly and politely. Do you want donuts kinda warm or piping hot? Piping hot. This isn't complicated. Staff needs a major attitude adjustment. read more

Best shipleys in town. Hands down. In houston and Katy. They're fast and donuts are usually nice and warm. Love it.

Fresh hot glazed donuts ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT. That's really the point and all that needs to be said, but this is Yelp and, well, I'll say more just because... So, let's start with how you find this place. I mean, of course, after you look up the address and get in the vicinity? From the 610 loop, you head west down Ella Blvd in the right lane until it comes to a complete stop. Don't dare change lanes because everyone in THAT lane is waiting to get to the Shipley's drive-through window. Yeah, you heard me right. DRIVE-THRU HOT DONUTS, but only if you patient enough. If not, pass the traffic and turn-in on the other side of Shipleys where there is plenty of parking. Okay, it's not really a parking lot - like with striped lanes and such, but just go ahead park your car somewhere on the big slab of concrete (if you're lucky) or the grass if you're really impatient and desperate. Don't mind the dump truck and abandoned cars that signify the lot does not completely belong to Shipley's and walk on in and place your order. Inside, good luck figuring out when it's your turn to order. Don't worry, another customer will correct you if you jump up to the counter and start mumbling about what's hot or not. Somehow these incredible employees manage to keep the peace when people need their doughnuts. Just know that if you see someone looking grumpy, you're not ahead of them and if you see someone watching the do-nuts being made, they've already ordered. Don't be scared either, we're all here for the same thing - usually. Anyway, this is why most of us patiently wait on the street in the drive through line. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would!!! Best donuts and kolaches ever!!! I finally had some this past March after not having some for about 8 years. I grew up in Houston having kolaches almost every weekend and now I live in California with no Shipley's, no kolaches, and no amazing donuts. Crazy story: This was also the one food I craved while pregnant that I did not have I even emailed them asking them to consider opening a Shipley's in California lol I finally had my craving (4 years later) and my son was able to eat one on his own as well. If I could give 0 stars I would! Do yourself a favor, if you find a hair in your food, make sure to spit everything out, and make everyone else spit it out too. I had a big assssss hair ( curly to be exact) in my chocolate donut.. THEY HAD A DAMN HAIR IN MY FOOD.. WHICH I COULD GET SICK FROM.. AND THEY OFFERED ME WHAT WAS IN THE BOX ! You've got to be EFFIN KIDDIN ME! never coming here read more
