Best donuts best Shipley's Donuts around I recommend Shipley's Donuts on Ella maybe for the last 50 years

This is the good Shipley's on Ella Blvd with the hot light on! Baby, when those donuts are hot and fresh, they hit different. Stick with the simple glazed and don't bother with the chocolate glazed and probably any other depending on time of day. Trust me on that one. And I went early morning like 8'ish on a Saturday but it was still cold donut. I also got a sausage and cheese kolache, and that thang was hot, fresh, and delicious! I went through the drive-thru, but honestly, you'll probably get your order faster going inside. They did have a nice gentleman outside taking orders and the payment before you reached the window, which definitely helps keep things moving. I was even able to go around the car at the window cause the gentleman brought me my order as well. Just know, when that hot light is on, you already know what time it is! Glaze me up, baby! read more

BEST SHIPLEY'S IN HOUSTON HANDS DOWN!!! I'm not from Texas, so I could never get behind Shipley's until I started frequenting this location close to my home. The line is always in the street, but it moves so fast. I love going at night for a sweet snack. The classic glazed donuts are always so hot and yummy. The icing is perfect. We also tried the apple fritter bites. They were amazing! And the price was great for how big they were. It was like 6 or 8 for $2. There is parking available and a drive thru. No seating inside. It is takeout only. Pretty fast paced. Will return for sure. read more

Pro tip: Park and walk-in! Don't do the drive-thru. Or if you do, don't be impatient about it. That line is 10 cars deep on a weekend morning. Score hot and fresh donuts, kolaches, coffee, and prompt service. Management: This staff needs a tip jar out front. Yelpers rave about their boudain kolaches, but vegetarians can try the egg and cheese kolache. read more

Always has been a pleasure with the service! Consistently warm donuts super hot/warm each time. I went through drive-thru. No seating inside the building. read more

The donuts ate always amazing but the kolaches are a hit n miss. Today they were a miss. They tasted overcooked as the sausage were not juicy and there wasn't really any cheese inside. Service was fast as usual. read more

If you do one of those 'too good to go' orders make sure you are there EXACTLY on time. I did one of these orders, schedule pickup was for 7:00 pm but arrived at 7:05 pm and they said it was "too late". Not even a 5 minute grace...This is a shipleys donuts! Not a high end reservation restaurant. I believe in being punctual of course, but for loyal customers (been going here for over 30 years) to not even be given a bare minimum grace period is insane. Keep in mind this location closes at midnight. They also refused a refund! Don't waste your time here for mediocre service and decreasing quality food. Truly disappointing, do better! read more

We've stopped here twice both times it was amazing. The donuts are really good and the Kolaches are amazing. Not to mention the staff is always smiling and friendly. We would (most likely will) go back when we are in Houston. read more

I've been a loyal customer of this Shipley location for years, but recently the service from one particular employee has made me start driving out of my way to a different store. The older, shorter lady with short gray hair and glasses who often works the front Her attitude has repeatedly been rude and dismissive, not just toward me but toward several of my coworkers as well. consistently unwelcoming service and an unwillingness to help or answer simple questions. The rest of the staff has always been great. read more

Love a good shipleys experience! Always a go to place to try out and eat donuts and kolaches . Parking isn't amazing but it's a grab and go type place! read more

One of the few locations that make custom donuts! Yes! 6am - super busy place. There is a Drive through going and walk in. Small - no lobby, like literally point and go. You can see up close they are making the kolaches. Unfortunately my donut pre order was not ready, I had a small wait plus one looked over fried but they replaced it. Small parking lot. read more

Glazed doughnuts too hot to hold. Amazing! Good old-fashioned southern yeasty doughnuts. They have delicious kolaches and other doughnuts as well but, when they are hot there is nothing better than a plain Shipley glazed doughnut. Not sure If this is the original location but it is old. The drive-thru line backs up onto the street so we parked next door and went inside. Totally worth it. read more

I visited this donut spot while visiting Houston, and the drive-thru line was all the way out to the street. The server recommended that I go inside and order since this was my first visit. I ordered the glaze donuts, and these were some of the best donuts I'd ever tasted in my life. The glaze donuts were so fresh, and they melt in your mouth. The cake donuts were also amazing. The service was good and fast. I can't wait to visit again, because I will be visiting this donut shop again. read more

Donuts are fantastic and the donut hole bags come STUFFFED. Super quick service regardless of the long lines some mornings.

Hands down the BEST Shipley in town. This is the one place you can go any day of the week and can get hot fresh donuts any time of the day. The staff is nice and efficient-especially when the drive-thru line is extended down the street (let me tell you-it's worth the wait). Also this is my favorite location because they sell donut holes by the bag-not the dozen so you'll likely have two dozen for just under $2. Buying for a lot of people? Check the local Leader newspaper for a coupon for some free donuts with purchase-I think they still do it. I think my car just automatically self-directs itself here whenever I am on this side of town. My family has been going here for over 25 years and it is still our favorite. read more

This is the best Shipley's. It is pretty much the only one I visit unless an emergency donut situation arises. The glazed donuts come out hot, the hours are good, and an order of donut holes gets you a full bag not just a dozen. I normally go through the drive thru, the staff who take your order sometimes come out to the car to speed up the process. The inside is just large enough for picking up orders, most of the space is reserve for donut making. They're open late and you can even get kolaches at all hours of the day. read more

Five star alert. I have been going to this location for probably about 25 years. I'm actually quite shocked that I'm barely giving them an interview. Not an interview a review. I'm using voice text so excuse any errors. This is a must try five star. This Shipleys is probably the best one in Houston. I mean it doesn't get much better than this when it comes to Shipley donuts. Food: I am not sure but I'm willing to bet every single donut the cell is made fresh. At least I can say that for glaze. Whatever I get a glaze donut there a piping hot like they just pulled them out of the grease put them in a bag and oh my God it's simply amazing. I'm telling you right now if you were a fan of donuts, you have to stop at this location. There is not another Shipleys donut like this in town. I'm not sure if the owners simply go out of their way or what but man they are doing a great job at this location. Like I'm telling you right now the donuts come out fresh every single time. This is a very special place in Houston for donuts. If you're not from the Houston area I'm telling you right now do not pass up this opportunity. You'll probably never try another donut like this. They are an exceptional location out of all the Chipley's in Houston Texas that I've been to. They are so good I will probably go tomorrow. The best in Houston Texas five star well deserved. Well deserved read more

Sometimes you just have to get some donuts and coffee in the morning and you can't beat the Shipley's original glazed and jalapeño sausage kolaches. The drive thru is kind of long, but it's definitely worth it. Be patient and you will get to enjoy the best donuts in town! I also enjoy the cream filled donuts too, but you have to be careful now because it can get addicting read more

This is one of the best Shipley's! It's not a new fancy building just good quality Shipley's taste. They are always fresh hot and sugar dripping! The line can be quite long during peak hours so just keep in mind that you might be in the drive through waiting from the street. read more

As you can probably tell from the long drive-thru line on most mornings, hands down, the best Shipley's Do-Nuts I have been to! They seem to continuously be making fresh glazed donuts as the ones we order always come to us hot with the icing melting now matter what time of day we come. Also, their "dozen" donut holes are usually just a bag filled with goodness. We went to a different Shipley's once and literally only got 12 donut holes (boo!). One star demotion because sometimes some of the staff are not wearing their masks properly. read more

Idk who the new, young, fat girl is but she had the nastiest attitude. I've been coming to this specific location since I was a kid and although I was excited to drive 40 minutes to get some good donuts from the best spot the girl ruined my whole experience today. However, I will continue to come here every once in a while as I have my entire life but hopefully she isn't the one to attend me or I will say something. read more

I have been coming to this location for about 3 years. The donuts have always been hot and fresh. Today I went and there are new faces however I didn't think that would change anything. I was handed cold glazed donuts. Anyone that comes here knows the donuts are always hot! I asked for fresh donuts and waited and was given a new batch. I could feel the heat from the new batch and was happy and left. I got home and my donuts were under cooked! They didn't even smell like donuts but like dough. I called to discuss my issue and spoke to Lupe who didn't speak English and said a manager was only there in the morning. I told her what happened and she said come by 10 and hung up. Another good location turned bad with customer service, communication and overall quality. read more

Shipley Do-Nuts - Undercooked donuts - Donuts Near Me - Houston, Texas

As I said before, I've been coming here since I was a kid, 20 years ago, as I grew up in the area. However, quality has gone down tremendously in the last 2 years. It's still better than other Shipley locations, but, they are no longer going to be the bar soon. I'm starting to prefer Hugs & Donuts down the street. They must've gotten a new cook/baker. The ham & cheese kolaches have been consistently dried out /very brown on the top -- no longer the dough-y deliciousness I once enjoyed. The donuts are still hot and fresh, however, they are being cooked too long and are dried out/very brown on top. The glaze doesn't help & it no longer coats the donut -- it just dries up quickly. The donut holes have all sorts of unidentifiable blemishes on them -- like they were rolled in pepper. They used to be lightly colored, fluffy, and beautiful. Now they look like rocks. The milk and orange juice options are sad -- doesn't taste good. They need to offer more milk choices & the orange juice is just nasty -- need offer fresher, colder orange juice like McDonalds or El Rey. The exterior of the building needs to be pressure washed and painted. The drive thru window is dirty -- makes one wonder what's going on in the kitchen. The bakery case needs to be cleaned and better protected -- makes one wonder about bugs. read more

This place is a national treasure. I know doughnuts, yes I do. Shipley on Ella turns it OUT! If I could invest, I would. That's how much I believe in their doughnut magic. In the meantime, I'm more than happy to continue spending all of the money on their sweet delights. I want to say "let's take Shipley national", but I always fear that would compromise the quality of the brand itself. Not if you have the right team, though. Team Ella forever!!!! read more

These Dominican ladies working here are so darn sweet and I'm so glad they didn't give me a hard time when I couldn't decide what I wanted.. so many choices, I settled with the butterfly roll, white iced donut with pecans on top and the cinnamon twist. Although, I rather that the twist was just glazed, but they were out. The cinnamon twist was still tasty, but not as sweet as I would have preferred. My favorite was the butterfly roll; I haven't seen anything like it before. It was definitely a sugar rush that I was craving. It consisted of sugar, lots of sugar, white icing, walnuts, cinnamon, soft bread and sweet yummy goodness. I used to be against Shipley's donuts, but this place has opened doors for me that no other Shipley's in past done for me.. Anywho, the drive-thru line was long and ridiculously long; I wouldn't been the one to wait. Oh and a bonus is they had a microwave in the store, so you can warm up the donuts. So many bonuses here. read more

Best donuts in town no contest always great service the location is a classic and the donuts are perfect and fresh every time

You know what I love about this one compared to any one that probably exists in Houston? When you order a bag of donut holes, your supposed to get a dozen I believe. These people just always seem to fill up the bag no matter how many are in there. This has happened every time (about 20 times) that I've been here. My favorite! Big Con: This one is so popular that if there are more than 3 cars in line, the line will wrap around to the street blocking traffic. Parking lot is crappy and after you drive through in the mornings, the exit is usually blocked off by a delivery truck. Can't complain I mean this place looks like it was build about the same time Jesus wore sandles. read more

They back the Ella Boulevard traffic up horrifically. They need to figure out their stupid drive through system.

Wayyyyyy better than any Shipley's I ever been to. They put alot of glaze on the hot donuts. Perfect.

BEST DONUTS IN HOUSTON. Hands down. I hope it always stays that way. Hot, fresh, melt in your mouth, delicious. They give extra donut holes and honorable mentions go to kolaches then the massive cinnamon twist. My aunt lives a mile from here so visiting her as a child I would be delighted to find hot donuts and cold milk waiting downstairs upon waking. Now that I am married and my husband and I live nearby, we make the three mile trek to Ella for that same grand experience. Hilarious that no one passing the donut line on Ella gets too upset when a line of cars holds up the right lane. They know. They know why we are waiting. The only potentially ill feelings they may have are based solely on the fact that they don't have time to stop in that particular moment for some hot donuts and holes. Love it! read more
