So I own the auto shop next door to this nonstop traffic causing donut place. There is a reason why so much traffic is caused by this shop and its because of their fresh glazed donuts. Their coffee is very special, too, according to many of the customers Ive talked to. Ive had their donuts and kolaches since the early 90's and the taste is as good as it was back then. How do I even begin to talk about the wonders of this particular Shipley's Donuts. I went to this particular location just about every morning for 4 years all through high school. I can't believe it only has 2 prior reviews so I had to say something. This place makes the most amazing donuts of all time. The simple glazed donut will never be the same for me after visiting this Shipley's so many times. This is the only thing in Houston that makes me want to move back from Austin, sorry family ;) Don't stop at just the glazed donuts though, the sausage & cheese kolaches are perfect, with just the best portion of hot, fresh melty cheese that oozes out...mmm SO AMAZING. Make sure you get a bag of donut holes to go with whatever you ordered. I can also highly recommend the maple donuts, bear claws, cinnamon twists...geez, I'm going to have to drive to Houston now. You also must know that not all Shipley's Donuts locations are created equal, this one is by far above any other place with the same logo on the door. I was pumped when I saw a couple open up in the Austin/Round Rock area, but man was I disappointed. My wife and I have driven by this place for a year wondering what was so amazing that there would be a line out into the street for donuts. We decided to finally stop one night and realized it wasn't because the donuts were great, it's because the people inside take forever to serve the customers at the drive through window. We've been sitting here for 25 minutes. There's nobody inside and only 4 cars in front of us when we pulled up. I had driven past this Shipleys for over 25 years because of the super tiny building I failed to think anything good could come out of this place . Well I know now not to judge a book by its cover. These are simply the best doughnuts in Houston no wonder they've been at this location for so long. Don't be mistaken of the little building because during the peek hours this place has a long line of cars waiting their turn to the little window at the drive thru so if your in a rush your already late. HOT FRESH GLZED DONUTS at 1pm, oh my goodness. Since the parking lot is small, I went to the drive-thru because I just wanted some donuts after I already had my lunch. I stopped by here to get my coworkers and myself donuts this morning, and oh my gosh! The donuts were soooooo soft, hot and fresh. Even the donut holes were extremely fresh. I went very early on a Saturday morning, so there was no long drive though line and I was in and out fairly quickly. If you love donuts, this is the place to be. MUCH better than Dunkin and Krispy. How has this place not been raved by everyone yet? Mike Z said it all, but I'll reiterate. This is the only Shipley location I know of that makes glazed donuts TO ORDER. Yes, that means that no matter what time of the day, every glazed donut you order comes out piping hot and fresh, with the glaze literally steaming on the box. Okay, I'm very partial to Shipley, so this review is biased... but how can you not love fresh donuts?? I had heard about it on a few food blogs, and while in the area the other night, my friend and I decided to make a pit stop. The store is open all hours except from midnight to 4am, and when we arrived around 11pm, only the drive-thru window was open. We ordered two dozen donut holes and half a dozen glazed. Because it was the end of the night, we received almost double the amount of donut holes we ordered, which was a pleasant treat. We then waited a few minutes while they prepared our donuts, and every bite was worth the wait. I never get up early enough to make a run to Shipley for breakfast ,and the donuts are always stale by the time I get a craving later in the day. If you have the same problem, visit this location. And maybe, one day, other Shipley branches will catch on. read more

The original location at it's best. WHO doesn't love a dozen of their nice fresh hot do-nuts. Counting calories is def. out the window with this place. But well worth calories being taken in!. You must order original glazed to get the full on effect with a milk. (personally, i do not care for milk but i sometimes make an exception just for these). They're open 24hrs. The donuts are delicious, warm, fresh! My only gripe is that they need to line the bottom of the boxes with something because the donuts get stuck to the bottom and you end up ripping the donuts to get it em out. Some of my dozen was lined, some wasn't but I still give this place a thumbs up. The inside was packed, the drive thru easily had 8 cars waiting, that should tell you something. read more

This is my favorite location, and not just because it is down the street from me! They are honestly THE BEST location in Houston! They put some serious love into their do-nuts to make them so popular. You can find a line coming out of their lot every morning and at different times during the day. New people living in the area thought they were running drugs out of the drive thru window because they were so busy....until they visited and tried them out and now they know why there is a long line! I have been to other Shipley Donuts through out my life in all parts of Houston Texas and none of them can compare to the Shipley Do Nut shop located on Ella blvd. I haven't been able to find a fresh hot Shipley glazed do-nut of this quality any where else. This place can have a line hanging out the door and be the sole cause of a traffic jam in the mornings. They have the best kolaches and donuts in the city! No other Shirley's tastes as good. First off the glazed donuts are the freshest you will ever find. They pull them straight out the fryer and ice them then give them to you. Melts in your mouth!! The sausage and cheese kolache has a buttery breading that is never dry. They fill them with cheese so every bite has a gooey cheese and sausage bite. Hands down the best you will try. I drive across town just to gets these. This is my family's go to donut shop. It's convenient, has a great selection, and all the donuts are awesome. What I like about this shop is every donut is fully glazed, even the ones with icing on top. Also when you ask for half a dozen donut holes, they fill half the bag. And if you ask for a dozen, they fill the whole bag. They are giving you 2 - 3 times the amount they should for the same price. The issue I have is with their regular glazed donuts. This place is always so busy that they don't give the glazed donuts time to drip the excess glaze before they put it in the box so you get massive clumps of icing in your box.
