Got a knife and fork burger here after an event and it was hugeeee and so good! I loved the variety of mushrooms there were inside and the cheese was also melting out from the side so you really need a knife and fork to eat it. I also love how old school-y it felt inside the restaurant and it really matches with the history of the brown palace hotel. Service was great and i definitely will be back to try the other items on the menu!

Awful experience and such a shame because the food was decent. Stopped in for lunch as guests of the Brown Palace and we were so disappointed. The hostesses were nice and helped us get seated quickly but our server was awful with a horrible attitude. It took her forever to approach us and when she did, it was like we were inconveniencing her by being there. Everything took forever including food, drinks, our check- you name it. She stood around and hung out by the hostess stand instead of paying attention to her tables (2). The restaurant was not busy either. Such a shame because the environment has potential to be a cool spot and food was decent, not great.

This is not a review of their food as a whole. Boss Lady and I came in as a respite from the 101 F heat that wanted to unalive us. The joint looks like Captain Black Beard will walk in at any minute. The dark stained wood and seafaring appointments are wonderful. We ordered drinks and some onion rings (to tie us over for dinner). They were really good and seasoned nicely. We'll definitely come back to have prime rib and assorted accoutrement.

Disappointing Last Dinner in Denver It was our last night in Denver, and we wanted something close and convenient to the hotel. We found Ship Tavern, located just across from us, inside the historic and luxurious Brown Palace Hotel in downtown Denver. We made the mistake of not reading any reviews beforehand--after all, it's located in a highly rated hotel, so we assumed the dining experience would reflect that. Unfortunately, it did not. Let's break it down: 1. Atmosphere The restaurant was easy to find once we were inside the hotel. When we walked in, the environment was extremely loud--even though the space wasn't crowded. The acoustics could really use some attention, perhaps some sound-dampening solutions. It was also uncomfortably cold. I'm from Las Vegas and we love our A/C, but this was excessive. The decor had charm and character, but it was in desperate need of care. The wood--covering nearly every surface--looked dusty and dull. The ship models lining the walls were covered in thick layers of dust and cobwebs. As for our table, it was so wobbly that we had to ask our server to either fix it or relocate us. 2. Service Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and checked in with us regularly. We had no complaints about the service itself. 3. Drinks My husband ordered the "New Orleans" cocktail, and it was excellent--probably the highlight of his entire meal. 4. Food Here's where I have to be especially critical. For a restaurant in a hotel that prides itself on being "luxury," the food fell far below expectations. Appetizers * Crab Cake - Visually appealing and tasted decent. There was a bit too much frisée for my taste, but the aïoli was actually the best thing I had all night. * Clam Chowder - Supposedly a signature dish here. It was bland, lukewarm, and had a thick, dried layer on top--as if it had been microwaved or left sitting out for hours. * The Tavern Salad - The menu simply said "iceberg lettuce," but it came out as a wedge (which should've been stated). It was supposed to have "tomato jam," but what was on the plate was more of a cinnamon-smoked sauce that clashed badly with the blue cheese. This dish has potential, but the flavors need serious reworking. Side Dishes Our son had regular fries, and I ordered sweet potato fries. Both were well-cooked and tasty. Entrées * Shrimp & Grits (Husband) - Four overcooked, stringy shrimp served over a huge bowl of grits that were purple and oddly chunky. There was no mention of the color on the menu. The shrimp-to-grits ratio was off, and my husband ended up leaving most of it. Thankfully, the waiter removed it from the bill. * Wagyu Burger (Son) - The biggest issue here was that it was ordered medium- well but came out well done and dry. * Knife & Fork Burger (Mine) - I'm not sure what I was served. Like my son's, the burger was overcooked. The "chorizo fondue" was cold and tasted like a boxed hamburger helper mix. I took two bites and didn't eat the rest. Overall Our final dinner in Denver was a major letdown. I genuinely hope the Brown Palace Hotel holds its in-house restaurants to a higher standard in the future. Ship Tavern may have history and character, but it's in desperate need of refreshed leadership in the kitchen and higher standards for cleanliness and presentation. A new chef with a clear culinary vision and attention to detail could breathe life back into this once-regal establishment.

The service at this bar was appalling. Located in the historic Brown Palace Hotel, which has been open since 1892, the bar itself has been around since 1934 and is the oldest bar/restaurant in the hotel. Despite its extensive selection of liquor and cozy atmosphere, we were ignored by the waitstaff/hostess. We sat at the bar, ready to order, but were consistently disregarded and received no acknowledgment. Unfortunately, we were unable to try their Espresso Martini, which I had hoped to taste as part of my search for the best one in town.

Chicken cordon bleu

This is a restaurant in the Brown palace Hotel. We came here after a night out downtown since their kitchen closes later. The staff were friendly and resourceful. The restaurant has live piano on weekend nights. My husband had the clam steamers as appetizer and I tried the chicken cordon bleu. The clams were good, but I've had better. The crust on the chicken cordon bleu was good. But chicken wasn't juicy. And they put the same mustard cream sauce in the pasta as on the chicken, so the dish tasted average and very one dimensional.

This past week was my third visit to this Denver institution. The service and food is still five stars. I ordered up their delicious fried cod fish with Cole Slaw and a side salad. The cod is fresh and crunchy. The salad is a mixed green. I had a cocktail screwdriver to wash my meal down. The service is old- school excellent. This place is filled with a lot of history, and the nautical theme is cool in landlocked Denver! I am a huge fan of this place!

The masa birria, diver scallops, and grilled artichokes and asparagus were all great too. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly and came with duck fat potatoes, which immediately puts me in a good mood. Dessert also fully delivered. The banana cream pie with black sesame whip was one of those desserts where you keep going back for another bite even when you're already full. After reading other reviews and checking out photos beforehand, I knew the Colorado lamb was a must-order. It's not something I usually go for, but it ended up being my favorite dish of the night. The shrimp and corn grits were amazing, and I really loved the aged cheddar mac and cheese. Other dishes like the chickpea croquettes and the chili relleno were also pretty good and rounded out the meal nicely. The wait staff was fantastic. Super friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The restaurant itself has a cool, lively vibe. The only minor downside was that the outdoor heaters were a bit too hot, but that's a very small nitpick. Overall, an easy 5 out of 5 stars. We didn't take advantage of the patio vibes or rooftop deck with a fire pit, but this is still on our list! While waiting for a table, we cozied up to the bar and ordered drinks. One of the bartenders noticed I ordered the hibiscus margarita and asked me, offhandedly, if I was a fan of spice. Yes, please. With that, he cancelled my order and made me something "not on the menu" but what I called the "Patrick special." So good. Thanks, sir! We ordered burgers and shared their buffalo cauliflower starter. This, my friend, was absolutely amazing. Loved the buffalo spice paired with the bleu cheese. Easy way to enjoy some veggies. And along the same theme, I ordered the Buff and Bleu burger. This was so good, so flavorful and so messy. Don't judge me, but I resorted to using my fork, lol! It was so well balanced. Will have again. Parking here means street parking, but there were plenty of open spots on a Saturday night. The walk was nice. We can't wait to return, maybe on a game day, or maybe to enjoy Sunday brunch on the rooftop. Maybe a sunset for another date night. With this level of yumminess, the possibilities are endless.
