I haven't been here in years, and I'm so glad my friends and I decided to come for dinner! The staff were all super nice and attentive. They made sure our banchans were always refilled, which I really appreciated. My go-to items at any AYCE KBBQ spot are the beef belly, thinly sliced pork belly, and beef brisket, all of which were delicious here. My friend enjoyed the flat iron steak, though it wasn't really my favorite. I also tried their spicy tofu soup, which had a nice kick and great flavor. Overall, it was a solid dining experience, and I'm happy we came back.

Shik Do Rak, is located in the plaza off the corner of Jeffrey and Walnut Avenue in Irvine. They're to the edge of the lot directly in front of 7 Leaves Cafe. Parking at this plaza can get quite full. Additional parking is available off to the side and behind the restaurant. Shik Do Rak, can get packed so we try to show up before the rush or put our names down on their Yelp waitlist through our apps. Even with the waitlist, you can still sometimes wait longer than what it may say as they also take walk-ins. We've been to a few Korean BBQ joints but we always come back to Shik Do Rak. They're not a fancy place at all compared to some other restaurants and the table tops need to be redone, but we know the staff here and it's like home. Plus, I really like the banchan that they offer. They're always happy to see us and will come by and talk to our group in between serving other customers. They've literally seen the kids grow up and even come in as new babies. They have many different servers and bus boys, all of whom are always polite, welcoming and attentive. You'll never get the "I'm not your server" here. Our party is usually mostly kids and just a couple adults so we always go with the 3-2 order which has 30 items on the menu for $33.99. It's got good cuts of meat without being overly expensive. Everyone eating AYCE BBQ has to order from the same menu. There the 3-3 menu for $25.99 with 16 items, but this is only available M-F from 11:30am - 3:00 pm, M-Su 10pm - close excluding holidays. I literally have to take the day off or get off work early to make it for the cheaper menu. Kids from ages 5-9 years old are half price. What we order; 1) Prime brisket 2) Short rib 3) Pork neck toro - this is my favorite 4) Beef belly - another fave 5) Squid 6) Marinated pork belly 7) Garlic pork belly 8) Fresh pork belly 9) Bulgogi 10) Thinly sliced pork belly - another fave 11) Steamed egg bowl - our party of six, once finished 11 of these at dinner. 12) Soybean paste stew - I like this but fyi. It's a strong flavor What we've had but weren't a fan of from the 3-2 menu; 1) small intestines - I actually eat intestine BUT I am super picky about it and I want the pieces REALLY cleaned out or I won't eat it. These had a bit of extra taste to it that I couldn't tolerate. 2) large intestines - same see above 3) Little octopus - we tried it but I couldn't enjoy this after seeing it wriggling on the grill from the heat. It wasn't alive or anything, but that sure messed with my head. It's not marinated so unless you dip it into something, there's no flavor whatsoever. I personally prefer the squid. Overall, for the customer service, food and value, we love Shik Do Rak. It's become a place we rotate with our other favorite places to go. We have been coming here for many years. A few friendly familiar faces that work there just make it all so much better. Guaranteed that my family leaves here with a smile every time.

Compared to other flashy KBBQ places in Irvine, Shik Do Rak is a homely, old fashioned restaurant with great service and a wide selection of meats to choose from. The staff was very kind and attentive to our table of 7, stopping by often to refill sides, change the grill, and take our meat orders. We ordered from the 3-2 menu at $34/person. This was my go-to spot for a good while; it was always busy and a fun time! However, I feel like this place is a bit run down now. The quality has diminished over the years - the fish cakes and cucumbers were a bit mushy, the rice paper was tough, and the pork belly came out looking a little grey :/ The brisket and the sauces were good though, and the free frozen yogurt at the end of the meal was a plus. It's a bit sad to see, but it goes to prove that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to KBBQ. It's a shame that there aren't many good local AYCE spots anymore.

Family was craving to Korean Bbq and Shik Do Rak is our go to restaurant. Staff is super friendly and quick with the orders. Prices are reasonable and they have various price ranges to choose from. The smell and sizzle of Korean BBQ is like music to you ears. Wait time was about 30 min so recommended to waitlist on Yelp to get a table. Great food and lots of choices.

Another great experience at Shik Do Rak. The service is great and they're always refilling the sides. We get the combo instead of the AYCE and it's the perfect amount of food. Thanks Tea for the great service.

Let's be honest. Best kbbq in OC. Everyone that says otherwise doesn't eat kbbq once a week. Victor, Thy and Jason are always holding it down during the busy times keeping the grills hot and full of meat. Abel always keeping the place SPOTLESS. Get the tofu soup and don't forget the froyo at the end.

Our favorite kbbq place is Shik Do Rak in Garden Grove. We wanted kbbq, but didn't want to drive all the way to Garden Grove, so we decided to try the one in Irvine. This location is a bit smaller than the Garden Grove one I believe. The service here is definitely quicker and attentive. The food is pretty much the same. The meats and banchan are tasty! They also give out the free yogurt soft serve at this location too! We would definitely come back to get our kbbq fix!

We've been coming here for decades. All the servers have seen my kids grow up, and they are all so friendly. It's always bustling here with a lot of people talking and enjoying their meals that they cook on their own tables. Although they have AYCE options, we always get the combos because we don't want to stuff ourselves too much...but we still do...because there's a lot of food and there's unlimited side refills!

I've been trying to get here for a while and finally had the chance, so I made a reservation directly through the restaurant's Yelp page and even received a confirmation. But I didn't. If a restaurant is closed on certain days, their reservation system shouldn't allow bookings or send confirmations for those days. We never even made it inside, so I can't comment on the food--but this was a frustrating first impression and something they really need to fix.

There is stuff that's still there when you walk in and is available. First off service was great. Not that I can say I'm all that surprised in hindsight, but it's still kind of a shame. Mostly because I just wish the food had been better, but also because, despite how impressive the OC food scene is, I hadn't come across any BBQ joints/Cantonese restaurants that SF has so many of until randomly stumbling across this place! Then again, maybe I've just been too distracted by the many Taiwanese options that the Bay Area is so criminally short on... Compared to some of the Chinese BBQ joints that I frequent in the Bay Area, this place felt so much newer and a whole lot cleaner/nicer. That said, while the menu appeared to be a whole lot narrower, they still had a decent selection of offerings to choose from. Along with their nearly twenty different sides/snack dishes, which include items like pig ears with chili sauce, cucumber salad, chicken wings, wontons in chili oil, and tofu skin salad, they also had BBQ meats, like Roasted Duck, Soy Sauce Chicken, and Char Siu, a mix of rice and noodle dishes, and combination plates of their BBQ meats over rice or noodles. Sadly, though, no crispy skin roast pork, which was a huge bummer. -- SWEET FRIED CORN Admittedly, this initially didn't catch my eye, but I'm glad we ended up trying it. Every piece was crispy and I liked how sweet and flavorful the corn was. Plus, it was how this wasn't all that oily, though, I wouldn't have minded a bit more batter for some added crunch. -- WONTONS IN CHILI OIL Not too shabby. Although the skins felt a little overcooked, each piece was fairly plump and I thought the filling was pretty tasty. It was also unexpected to see a bit of broth with the chili oil, but it had a nice flavor to it and just the right amount of spice. -- TWO BBQ ITEM RICE PLATE with Char Siu and Roasted Duck I was the most excited for this, but it left me feeling conflicted. On the plus side, the bowl had a fair amount of both meats and the duck was really good - really juicy and the skin was golden brown. On the other hand, the char siu was super fatty and the rice was mushy. -- DICED GROUND PORK ON RICE...$13.99 More solid than spectacular, but still satisfying enough. Like with the BBQ plate, the meat to rice ratio favored the former and I thought the egg and the veggies complemented this well. At the same time, I wish this had more sauce to it, as the pork look a little dry/pale. In addition to how convenient it was to come here (there was a steady crowd, but it never got packed inside), I appreciated how fast our food came out. Also, I'm not sure if we just got lucky, but it wasn't nearly as hard to find a space in the complex's parking lot as it seemed it would be. Between all of that, the food being decent, and the relatively friendly service, Frank's BBQ & Noodles wasn't bad for some Chinese BBQ. However, it definitely could've been better, especially if Roast Pork had been one of their offerings!

The food still tastes pretty much the same, although some portions did get a little bigger. I still wish it were more like the Rowland Heights location where the skewers are grilled right in front of you -- that experience just makes the food feel fresher and more enjoyable. The service was okay overall, but some staff members definitely had attitudes, which made the experience a bit annoying. They're only open at night now, which honestly makes sense since this type of food is more of a late-night craving spot. I also came back to try their crawfish for the first time, but personally I feel like 949 Grill does it better. The crawfish tasted fresher there, and I think their skewers are better quality now too. Business also seemed much slower than before. I think being closed for 6 months really hurt them because a lot of people probably forgot about the place.

The dining area was noticeably cold, and the temperature didn't appear adjusted for the low occupancy. This became more obvious as the food arrived, since everything cooled down quickly. Even with metal warming trays, the dishes struggled to retain heat, and once barbecue items turn lukewarm, both texture and flavour decline noticeably. Across the meats, there was a surprising lack of differentiation in marination. The lamb skewers, beef tongue, and other grilled items all seemed to share the same base seasoning, with only the sauces changing to distinguish them. The lamb skewers themselves were very lean, cut into uniform blocks that looked tidy but lacked richness and the expected fatty depth that gives lamb its aroma and juiciness. The beef tongue was slightly more enjoyable, but still arrived lukewarm, which dulled its texture and impact. The signature chicken wings were slightly dry, with a sauce that didn't add much dimension. The grilled scallop dish was the most disappointing--mostly vermicelli with only a minimal amount of scallop, leaving it dry and lacking substance. That said, the highlight of the night was unexpectedly the fried chicken skin chicharrón. Crisp, airy, and indulgently fatty, it delivered exactly what the rest of the meal was missing--heat, texture, and unapologetic flavour. I didn't explore much beyond the barbecue items and a few appetizers, as the consistency already raised questions about the rest of the menu. The meal ended up being mostly cold beer paired with lukewarm meats and limited service attention. Even getting staff attention for drinks required effort. Overall, the experience felt flat and underpowered--especially because the core dishes never held temperature or distinction long enough to build impact, with the exception of a single standout in the fried chicken skin.

Since it was the evening before Mother's Day, I drove to them and paid for the order. Yes, I was also presented with a minumum 20% TIP screen, which I declined. When I got there at pickup time (4:00pm) on Mother's Day, the price changed to $325.51. I was told that, for some reason, they had cut about 50% larger portions than the menu specified (see the line items, which should have been 1 lb. each), so they charged me for the difference ($325.51 - $281.62) which was $43.89 (about 50% more for the 2 items they cut heavier). No, there was no mention when I placed the order that the total cost might change due to extra meat. Neither is it shown on their web site or printed menus. When I protested, there was no option. If I don't pay the $43.89 difference, I don't get the Mother's Day food. After about 20 minutes of bickering at the counter with two different clerks (note the time stamp differences on the credit card slips), I was given my original order, with a net price reduction of ($281.62 - $254.93) $26.69. My persistence had paid off. On a positive note, the cook did, twice, walk up to me and quietly apologize for what was going on. I know many folks would have folded in this situation, but that's not my nature. I don't stand for dishonesty. Yes, it was embarrassing, other clients in line were not happy (I let them skip ahead of me so as not to inconvenience them). None of them had price increases. I don't know if the clerks wanted a tip because the management doesn't pay them much, or it this goes deeper and is standard operating procedure that assumes most clients will simply approve of the overage and pay up. In any case, from this client's point of view, this is a SCAM! When it was all over, I took my 11 and 12 year old grandsons (who had been sitting patiently waiting for grandpa to pay) and my food package to the car, drove home and proudly presented the meat to my family. After all, I am a hunter-gatherer; and the food was great!
