What? I didn't leave a review from many years back when we first came here? It was an amazingly deliciously wonderful experience. Apparently we had the chicken Marsala and *loved* it. Many, many years later we finally made our way back here and still loved it! Service was like we were visiting with family or friends. Very accommodating and personal. No one trying to recite memorized descriptions but rather as if they cooked it themselves. The first time we sat upstairs at the bar. This time we sat at a table. Both were comfortable and nice but of course the table provided a little more privacy and space. We had the Shrimp Devalino (sp?) and the pan seared salmon. We swapped half way through so we both could enjoy each. In all honesty the swapped meals fit both of us better (the shrimp was a bit too spicy for me). I hope we head back much sooner next time since there were other items I would like to try. Maybe even for HH?

Y'all. Their gluten free pasta is SO good. I'm not sure what brand it is or if they make it in house it's got that fresh homemade, not falling apart, sauce carrying deliciousness. We went for restaurant week and had a good size salad plus entree each plus dessert split between couple. Def going back! BONUS, the staff was very knowledgeable about GF and specified for celiac (though I think all GF requests should be taken seriously and consistently).

Restaurant week is the best deal, but with going anytime.. A filet stroganoff and pork chop special. Service was fantastic.

Tucked away in the Congress Park neighborhood is Shells & Sauce, one of my favorite places to eat! It's my go-to restaurant to take friends & family. It's very reasonably priced with nice size portions. They serve deliciously consistent Classic Italian dishes, and have gluten-free options too. A couple of tips...make a reservation if you can, this cozy place is always busy & it's closed Sundays & Mondays. There are two dining rooms, one main level & the other upstairs. Just like a noisy Italian family having Sunday supper, Shells & Sauce can get loud. Parking can be a challenge, there is a small parking lot in the back but it's pretty much street parking. We brought our out-of-town friends here one early Friday night. Happy to have made reservations because it was hopping at 5:30pm. Our server was great. She kept our water glasses full & was quick to bring us complimentary (endless) fresh baked bread with a balsamic dipping oil. We had the Scallops & Risotto, Lasagna, Shrimp Carbonara & Shrimp Diavolo. The scallops were cooked perfectly, the lasagna was cheesy & delicious, the carbonara was divine, (best I've had) & the diavolo was spicy & delectable as usual. Our dishes were outstanding. This place is lively & fun, I highly recommend it!

Came for Happy Hour at 4:30pm -- not bad, not great either. * mini grilled salmon, very dry fish but delicious garnish and sauce. * mini Bolognese, it's capellini not penne as advertised, and way overcooked; the 'homemade sauce' tastes surprisingly bland. (FWIW the best pasta for Bolognese sauce is tagliatelle.) I am guessing they probably make these dishes in large batches at the start of Happy Hour that don't taste so good anymore close to 5:00pm. Next time will order from their regular menu. Cozy, homey dining room. Great waitstaff!

I made a reservation in advance and was seated right away. It wasn't too busy on a Tuesday night so possibly didn't need to but they weren't completely empty either. Our waitress was super friendly. She made small talk with us and complimented our outfits. We started with the bruschetta. It was a little different than I've had before as it had olives in it. It was really flavorful and good. We ran out of bread so my friend even used the complimentary bread to eat the rest of it. I ordered the special of the day which was a lobster/crab stuffed ravioli and topped with some veggies and shrimp. It came in a broth - it was amazing. I also then used the bread to dip in it. My friend got special as well. We really enjoyed our meals - I'll definitely be back!

Ask the Community - Shells and Sauce

Still getting familiar with Denver- anyone know if there is a parking lot or garage near by? Or street parking?

Street parking is generally pretty easy around there. We've never had a problem finding a spot within a block or two.

What hours do they serve brunch on Saturday/Sunday?

    I believe 10:30-2:30

Does anyone know if they still serve gnocchi?

Its off the menu at moment, will probably return when the weather gets cooler

The concept of it being inside a home is very interesting. The food here is amazing especially their Caesar Salad. That salad was so delicious we wanted to order some to go. Now the reason why this place is getting three stars because 1. The service here is horrible! 15-25 minute wait for our server to come back around and check in on us. It wasn't just us either but it was everyone else in the room. Saw a couple that waited about 25 minutes just to be checked up on after being seated. We also never asked for our bill yet and it was given to us without us asking. We wanted to order more food after our entree. Hence why we never got to order our Caesar salad. 2. This one was the most disappointing part of our dinner. We ordered tiramisu for our dessert, once served I noticed a glossy chunky on it, assuming it was maybe crystallized sugar. Wrong. It was a chunk of ice!! The tiramisu WAS STILL FROZEN!! For 12 bucks I can get some better tiramisu at king soopers, Safeway, or any other restaurant honestly. 3. There was an ant in my drink, and we weren't compensated for that. We paid 4 dollars for an ant drink.

We started with the focaccia (with the ricotta and honey on the side) and it was so tasty. My partner doesn't normally like ricotta, but loved this dish! Then, we had the melon salad (very refreshing). We were celebrating our anniversary, and the staff brought out complimentary glasses of bubbly rosé, as well as their special dish, which were the stuffed squash blossoms. This was a really thoughtful touch! For mains, we ordered the tagliatelle with lobster (this dish had a tiny bit of spice, which was fine for us but might catch someone else off guard), and the lamb loin. Both were excellent. Overall, we had a great time! We found easy street parking nearby, as well. My only downside would be that, because this restaurant is so popular, there are lots of diners, which makes for a pretty loud atmosphere. However, this just speaks to how good everything is, so if you think about it, perhaps it's a good sign!

We normally get the Piatti Di Cicchetti (olives, pickled veggies, and almonds), Piatti Di Salumi (prosciutto, salame, coppa), and the Burrata. They all complement each other SO WELL. Pair that with a white wine and you got yourself a time. The 2 course offering for lunch is also phenomenal. I got the Insalata Mista (lettuce, shallot, reggiano) and it's a decent sized salad and very tasty. The Mafaldine (lamb ragu, pecorino romano) is to die for. Such great flavor and the pasta is always cooked perfectly. The service here is always top-notch too. The staff is very well-trained and is on top of everything. Truly a well-oiled machine. The atmosphere here is impeccable too. You can tell that everything was thought of for a great experience: lighting, table layout, decor, etc. It is a great place to bring a significant other, business customers, etc. I cannot wait for my next visit to Tavernetta and I was just there a few hours ago!

We split six plates and were stuffed by the time the celebratory dessert arrived. We started with the burrata, which paired well with apple butter and pickled apples. The arancini was a fusion of Indian spiced cauliflower with mint-cilantro yogurt raita. My favorite of the Spuntini dishes was the Granchio--jumbo lump crab served over a crispy potato cake with butternut squash and a perfect 63 ° egg. We split two Primi dishes: their special of the day pasta, and the Cappellini Aglio e Olio. The Cappellini was amazing--a perfect blend of Indian spices, breadcrumbs, and another 63 ° egg. Yum. If you love scallops, the Capesante dish is not to be missed. These were some of the sweetest, perfectly prepared scallops I have had.

The decor is incredible, the vibe is sophisticated without feeling stuffy, and the service is always absolutely stellar. And then there's the FOOD. Everything is beyond amazing. If you don't start with the whipped ricotta, you're missing out -- it's a must. The calamari is solid, and the Little Gem Caesar is arguably the best Caesar in the city. It's so fresh and perfectly dressed. The most noteworthy dishes, in my opinion, are the Black Truffle Cacio e Pepe, Paccheri Amatriciana, Dry-Aged Bistecca Agnolotti, Filet Mignon Meatballs, and my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE: the Chicken Parm Pizza. Do NOT be fooled by the name -- this thing is massive and definitely serves more than two people (I'd say closer to four!). You'd be stupid not to order it though because it is an absolute MUST. Starting with my favorite and the absolute knockout: The Dry-Aged Bistecca Agnolotti. Think of a ravioli pouch, but smaller and better, filled with meat, sitting in a bed of the most perfectly browned brown butter with thick parmesan shaves on top. You think it's over, and then your server comes and pours a sweet yet vinegary reduction on top. I'm actively eating it for breakfast as I write this. Insane. Will be thinking about this for a few days. The others in the group got the Spicy Lobster Rigatoni Alla Vodka, which is one of their most popular dishes. It was good (we swapped bites), but mine was better. For the table we split a Caesar (which I do wish had more dressing, but I love a dressing so that could just be me), filet mignon meatballs (4 in an order which was perfect for our group of 4), and the tuna and avocado carpaccio. Favorites were the meat and fish. We used the bread to sop up the meat sauce at the end. Lastly, the Chicken Parm Pizza was ordered for the table. Basically, the "crust" of the pizza is chicken parm. I think it's a little expensive for what it was, but I'm glad I got to try it with a bigger group. Can't imagine reordering it, solely for the size and cost, but it was a unique food experience. Drinks at the table included a Barbera, a Chardonnay, a Sangria, and a Spritz. All good. Overall, service was great, restaurant is beautiful, dishware is pretty, and vibes are sophisticated yet unpretentious.
