(Kheer is a creamy, traditional dessert made by simmering rice with whole milk, sugar, and aromatics like cardamom and saffron.) Let me just start by saying that Authentic Pakistani food is greasy, they do have oily puddle in their curry. That oily puddle deep or shallow is called "Taaree". If you ever visit Lahore, you gotta go to the andoronay Lahore, old Lahore basically and every small restaurant you will go to has some oily greasy side to it. All you gotta do it, pour it out or use paper towel to soak oil out of your dish. That's all. Pakistani/Indian dishes are not the healthiest kind but of course you can make any Desi (Pakistani/Indian/ Bangla) dish healthy if you make it at home, with very little or no oil. Or use coconut OR any other oil substitute. Ordering a take out is a treat for most of the population, so unless you are going to just settle with little bit oily dish then what's the point. Just grab a paper towel and get rid of the excess oil and still enjoy the Authentic Pakistani dish. I am just a customer at Spice and Beyond and I understand that they might not be perfect but they are doing a pretty good job of bringing part of Pakistan to New York. Have a wonderful day.

The lassi was good; it could have been blended more as most lassi concoctions that I've had are very creamy with just the right amount of yogurt tang....this one was "ice-chunky". But it was still tasty. As promised, the meals were ready to go in about 25 minutes. They traveled well and were still hot when we got home. I really enjoyed the channa appetizer; lots of different flavor layers throughout with just a subtle hint of spice. I tasted the chicken tikka masala; well spiced cubed chicken over basmati rice (same rice that I had with my chicken bowl). Some of the chicken pieces were really big and the portion was definitely generous. My sliced chicken was also really good - different flavor profile from the tikka. Since the salad is served in the same container, it gets pretty warm....but it saves having a separate to-go box for a small salad. They also have an entire rolled ice cream selection - plus chai-inspired hot drinks and other desserts available. I wanted to try the naan and asked if we could order a side of it. Unfortunately, they still considered it "lunch" time and couldn't sell me a piece or two of naan. I found that a little weird, but I chalk it up to being a fairly new business. Plus, the girls that were working in the front - I'm guessing - are not related to the owners. Friendly and competent enough, but always embrace an opportunity to upsell! I think this is the best Shallimar in this area by far. They are consistantly improving. Now they have a complete Salad Bar as part of the lunch buffet. The delmar Shalimar buffet was always far superior to the other Indian/Pakistani restaurants in the area but with the latest addition of the Salad Bar they have really moved up the ladder. The Punjabi Lamb Korma is also my favorite and Chickent Tikka Masala my wife's. Both are excellent. Jalapeno Cheese Naan and Kashmiri Naan complement our meal everytime we visit. The owner is always at hand to greet us and say hello. We look forward to our visit once a week. read more

About being lied to, not about the bug. But I also see it from the other side. My opinion is quite different. Bugs are everywhere. They massively outnumber every human. They're in everything, they're on everything. Eating bugs is really not going to do much harm. There's no place that's truly clean, and the cleaner we try to make it clean with is more dangerous than bugs and dirt by miles, because it's the chemicals we use to clean that cause infinitely more diseases than the stuff we're cleaning up. I travel to countries with amazing food around the world that don't have anywhere near these supposed cleanliness standards of America and it does us no harm, believe me. We really need to just get over it and if we find a bug or hair or whatever, just shrug and throw it out and maybe throw that portion out if you must, give it to animals or something, a homeless person, and get on with our lives. Because cooking in our own kitchens, there is every chance there's been bugs in our food too, at home. In fact I've seen it happen in many places. A lot of cultures even eat bugs and it's a delicacy so it really shouldn't be that big of a deal. So it might be gross but don't go ape on a place and change it to 1 star over a damn bug. Bad service, maybe, sure, but I'm not sure what more they should be expected to do than offering free replacements an extra sides. And posting pictures of bugs to the listing of a family restaurant for me is ethically wrong but each their own. The ethical problem is that Yelp will often make this the top picture. No idea why because this is bordering on bringing down a little local business and a livelihood, because a bug ended up in their food. I guarantee a bug has ended up in every dish at every restaurant across the world on several occasions, so whatever. First world problems are what make me puke.
