If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. Get ready for a long review... It may be that since I expanded my palate into Indian subcontinental cuisine at Sitar in Colonie close to two decades ago, that's the way I think that food is supposed to taste. Sure, Shalimar, Karavalli, Aashiana, Lazeez, etc. all have tasty dishes, but they're not quite at the level of what Sitar offered. Ok, why am I discussing Sitar? Well, Munna and Raj run the Karam Restaurant. Those guys were the chefs at Sitar (and later at Zaika). If you were in distress like I was about never being able to taste those amazing dishes once Sitar (and earlier Zaika) closed, you can relax. It's just as good as it was at Sitar! Better yet, since you're ordering directly from the chefs, you can get things customized to your taste. Like spicy (or not)? You can get spicy (or not). Don't like something in an otherwise awesome dish? They'll happily modify an ingredient for you. The restaurant entrance is on the side of the building on Willow, not the grocery store entrance on State. Look for the red awning with handwriting on it. Street parking was readily available on Willow. It is primarily a takeout place, but there are a few tables and chairs for those who wish to eat there. A group of 4 would fit comfortably. A group of 8 would need to use every chair in the place and possibly sit in two groups on either side of a doorway. The prices are so low compared to those at Sitar and Zaika that everything seems to be a la carte. If you want sauces with samosas, you'll have to ask for them. If you want rice with your entree, you'll have to ask for it. I really don't mind doing this since I end up paying for exactly what I want rather than overpaying for a dish to have things come with it that I may not want to eat. Don't limit yourself to the printed menu. Many things that were offered at Sitar and Zaika are available. Just ask for them. For instance, some of my favorites like Malai Kofta, Palak Panner, Mattar Panner, and Reshmi Masala are absolutely available. Regardless of what the posted hours say, they're closed every Tuesday and don't expect them to stay open right up until 10pm if it isn't busy on other days. Also expect them to close by 8pm during Ramadan (April/May). Shout out to Sonny, the former Sitar manager and Zaika owner, who is a manager at Delmonico's these days. Go visit him there when you're in the mood for steak and whatever else they offer and thank him for recommending that people try Karam if they miss the Sitar and Zaika flavors!

Good place for takeout, but not for dinning in. I really like that you can order naan instead of rice.

The vegetable samosas were pretty good, which had a firm flaky crust shell filled with potatoes, seeds, spices & curry with a sweet & spicy dipping sauce and a yogurt dipping sauce. The shrimp biryani had a mild spicy flavor with 8 tender shrimp (with shells on) over soft rice mix. However, I did find a piece of goat meat in the mix, no biggie. Overall, pretty good food at a fair price.

For what is essentially an enhanced food court experience, you get a pretty tasty meal here,…read moreeverything comes out quickly, and the owner takes very good care of you. The menu is pretty extensive for the seemingly small kitchen space you can see behind the counter. My vegetable samosas (2) were piping hot and had a decent amount of "not potato" in them, accompanied by 2 sauces. The Chicken Tikka Masala Bowl includes a generous amount of well-prepared rice. Normally I pass on rice except as a vehicle for sauce, but I finished this. The sauce had a reasonably deep red color and an enjoyable spicy flavor, maybe a little less tomato flavor than I've had elsewhere, but still quite good. Naan, wrapped in foil, is fresh and hot, but not necessarily crisp. Flavored naans will have the flavors as a stuffing. My mango lassi was excellent - I almost wanted to steal a larger milkshake cup from nearby Herbie's and ask for that to be filled up instead. All in all, if you are looking for an Indian meal while at Galleria 7, you will be very satisfied here.

It is an open Kitchen mostly takeout place with several booths/tables for dine in, if wanted. Ordered for pickup: Chicken Bihari Boti, six pieces Lamb Curry with Rice The chicken was very tender and delicious. A small salad was included. I would order this dish again even though the menu has many enticing items. The Lamb Curry included a tasty, flavorful white rice that complemented the curry well. The owner included extra sauces including a Mint-Yogurt one that was delicious. I should have ordered one of the many varieties of Naan, and next time I will. Check out their menu. The owner greeted you with a smile. Two others prepared the food. While another customer (Gyros) and I waited for our orders at 11:30 am (I arrived early), the owner served us a sample of their Kheer after asking us if we had a milk allergy. This traditional Indian Rice dessert was far superior in flavor and texture to what I have eaten at other local restaurants that serve it. (Kheer is a creamy, traditional dessert made by simmering rice with whole milk, sugar, and aromatics like cardamom and saffron.) The owner even included a complimentary serving of Kheer with my order. Nice! They thank you for your order when you leave. The restaurant was pristine including the recently washed windows. Parking is plentiful. I want to order food from here for my family who likes this cuisine.

We were the only ones dining in, which we didn't mind at all. We ordered at the counter and they brought the food to our table. We chose to share the Shrimp Curry, Chicken Tandoori, hummus and garlic naan. They brought the hummus out first, which came in a plastic container with a lid. It looked really liquidy but after stiring it with a spoon, it thickened up. The flavor was fantastic! The pita they served with it was warm too. They brought all of the entrees out together and a few minutes later, one of the employees came by with the Haleem Chicken, which he said was a new menu item that he wanted us to try on the house. It was stewed chicken with lentils and spices. Everything was absolutely delicious and had such great flavor. We couldn't pick a favorite. They served the dishes with their hot sauce and a yogurt sauce. Both were delicious too. Overall, while it seems most people pick up take out, dining in was a nice experience too. Highly recommend!

Our previous experience here was only with takeout about two years ago and we were quite pleased. The only downside on that occasion was finding out that 4 peppers on the menu for the dish that I ordered for myself was well beyond my spice tolerance. Certainly not the fault of the restaurant. We started out with a bottle of Saratoga Water (still) ($5) that is displayed upon every table as you are seated. I also couldn't pass up the opportunity to have an Ubu ($7) from Lake Placid. It was so tasty even though it was in a can. Papadam and chutneys were served while we perused the menus. Deviating from our tradition of starting with Mysore Masala Dosa we decided to try the Spring Dosa ($15). It was delicious enough to consider having again. Served with the traditional sambar and coconut chutney, the dairy rice-lentil crepe was a beautiful golden brown surrounding the flavorful filling of potatoes, panner, spring vegetables (which gave a contrasting crunch), and a lightly spicy spread. For her main course, my wife chose the Vegetables Kundapur ($20) with fresh vegetables, potato, coconut, ginger, and Mangalorean spices. Labeled with a single pepper on the menu, it had a slight level of spiciness and was very flavorful. We also tried a variation of Nan, Lacha Paratha. These whole wheat, griddle-made flatbreads reminded me of freshly made tortillas as their layers separated, but also flaked. They were delicious and less filling than Naan. As I've already noted, there was no way I was going to order any dish with 4 peppers next to it on the menu. I therefore opted to have the Lamb Madras ($26) with coconut, mustard seed, red chili, and curry leaf. Two peppers on the menu turned out to be JUST RIGHT! The lamb was very tender and not gamey. The coconut added a hint of sweetness and the white rice provided on the side for both of our meals was a perfect blend of texture for adding to the curry sauce. Service was friendly and efficient as they appeared to work as a team. Ambiance was very pleasant. There were plenty of leftovers for a second meal.
