Naan, rice, chutneys

Yum .... Yum .... PLUS wait staff took the time to answer our questions about the condiments. Highly recommend :) We started with the vegetarian samosas, then Dosai, Aloo Gobi, and the raisen and nut Naan. Everything was delicious. Restaurant filled up quickly so reservations recommended.

Fresh Naan

Probably one of the best lunch buffets I've been to in the capital region aside from the one in Clifton Park at a different restaurant. Everything is fresh and clean. They keep your cup full and the naan coming. The dishes were perfectly seasoned and everyone was very friendly and efficient. I can't believe I had never been here before. I can't wait to come back!

I have been to Karavalli many times for their lunch buffet and always leave stuffed and happy. They have lots of veggie options so the buffet is perfect for vegetarians. They always have a few delightful chicken dishes as well. Every time I've gone, the place has been busy, and there is sometimes a line at the buffet but it moves quickly. This place is popular for a reason! The restaurant is on the smaller side but has a good number of tables. I came once for dinner and that was great as well. Looking forward to my next visit to Karavalli!

Mysore Masala Dosa

Karavelli has always been my favorite Indian restaurant in the Capital Region due to how consistently they deliver tantalizing flavors with great service at very reasonable prices. The mysore malasa dosa is delicious (not too spicy!) and my favorite go to meal is the chicken amwalla. Their samosas are a great appetizer and their buffet is consistent and a great lunch option if you are in the area.

Love Karavalli in Saratoga, and I've been wanting to try this one since I found out it had a brother/sister. Although they have different owners, they are very similar. In what ways you may ask? (Check out the other Karavalli review) For starters, the atmosphere is very welcoming as soon as you walk in. Customers are greeted and treated as more than mere customers. The feeling is that of being a greatly appreciated guest, and the service is the best. As for the food, you have to try it for yourself. The menu is extensive and the staff happily answers any questions. They also make substitutions for personal preferences. I told Sam I'd mention him in this review, as he is especially helpful and friendly. So is the owner David who introduced himself soon after I sat down.

Beautiful bar when you walk in. Service is always impeccable.

Food, service, and ambiance is stellar! 10 out of 10! Don't yourself a favor and check it out asap. It will not disappoint.

Is their buffet back open?

Yes it's back open with some caveats. I've heard they make patrons wear plastic gloves and control the distance between customers.

The menu is pretty extensive for the seemingly small kitchen space you can see behind the counter. My vegetable samosas (2) were piping hot and had a decent amount of "not potato" in them, accompanied by 2 sauces. The Chicken Tikka Masala Bowl includes a generous amount of well-prepared rice. Normally I pass on rice except as a vehicle for sauce, but I finished this. The sauce had a reasonably deep red color and an enjoyable spicy flavor, maybe a little less tomato flavor than I've had elsewhere, but still quite good. Naan, wrapped in foil, is fresh and hot, but not necessarily crisp. Flavored naans will have the flavors as a stuffing. My mango lassi was excellent - I almost wanted to steal a larger milkshake cup from nearby Herbie's and ask for that to be filled up instead. All in all, if you are looking for an Indian meal while at Galleria 7, you will be very satisfied here.

We hadn't had an Indian meal in quite a long time. The flavors were calling out to us. We…read moredefinitely wanted a location that served Doas and narrowed it down from three under consideration to the one that was closest - Spice Malabar. Our previous experience here was only with takeout about two years ago and we were quite pleased. The only downside on that occasion was finding out that 4 peppers on the menu for the dish that I ordered for myself was well beyond my spice tolerance. Certainly not the fault of the restaurant. We started out with a bottle of Saratoga Water (still) ($5) that is displayed upon every table as you are seated. I also couldn't pass up the opportunity to have an Ubu ($7) from Lake Placid. It was so tasty even though it was in a can. Papadam and chutneys were served while we perused the menus. Deviating from our tradition of starting with Mysore Masala Dosa we decided to try the Spring Dosa ($15). It was delicious enough to consider having again. Served with the traditional sambar and coconut chutney, the dairy rice-lentil crepe was a beautiful golden brown surrounding the flavorful filling of potatoes, panner, spring vegetables (which gave a contrasting crunch), and a lightly spicy spread. For her main course, my wife chose the Vegetables Kundapur ($20) with fresh vegetables, potato, coconut, ginger, and Mangalorean spices. Labeled with a single pepper on the menu, it had a slight level of spiciness and was very flavorful. We also tried a variation of Nan, Lacha Paratha. These whole wheat, griddle-made flatbreads reminded me of freshly made tortillas as their layers separated, but also flaked. They were delicious and less filling than Naan. As I've already noted, there was no way I was going to order any dish with 4 peppers next to it on the menu. I therefore opted to have the Lamb Madras ($26) with coconut, mustard seed, red chili, and curry leaf. Two peppers on the menu turned out to be JUST RIGHT! The lamb was very tender and not gamey. The coconut added a hint of sweetness and the white rice provided on the side for both of our meals was a perfect blend of texture for adding to the curry sauce. Service was friendly and efficient as they appeared to work as a team. Ambiance was very pleasant. There were plenty of leftovers for a second meal.

Reviewing this spot again after nearly 4 years!…read more In my eyes, this spot has withstood the test of time. Maharaja still holds a dear place in my heart. The food is always exactly what I'm hoping for, and the service is always quick. I don't have to wait very long to get my food, and I always leave happy. My go-to is the Chicken Vindaloo. I have a pretty solid heat tolerance, and I don't recommend this to anyone that can't handle a bit of heat... I sometimes find myself sweating after this dish, but it is so worth it. My wife orders the Chicken Tikka Masala and it's also very delicious. I've tried a few chicken tikka masala dishes in the area (by extension of my wife) and this is my favorite. The sauce is a rich, buttery sauce that tastes amazing, and the chicken is always so tender. We share a helping of rice for the chicken tikka masala and vindaloo. It is plenty of food and we typically leave with leftovers (which reheat nicely). I do also love the copper-wear. Some of the appliances are getting a bit dented, and unfortunately the window in the front is cracked and I notice these small things, but the food is good enough for me to look past that.

During my visit, I ordered the classic yellow dal tadka and Kashmiri dum aloo and both exceeded my expectations. The dal tadka was comforting and beautifully prepared, with the perfect consistency and a well-balanced tempering that enhanced the natural flavor of the lentils without overpowering them. It had that unmistakable homemade, authentic Indian taste that is surprisingly hard to find. The Kashmiri dum aloo was outstanding. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, absorbing the rich, aromatic gravy infused with traditional spices. The depth of flavor, subtle heat, and creamy texture were exactly how this dish should be prepared. Honestly, I haven't tasted such an authentic and well-executed Kashmiri dum aloo anywhere in America. Ambience was very nice and service was exceptional too. If you are looking for genuine Indian flavors prepared with care and authenticity, I highly recommend this restaurant. It delivers both quality and taste in every bite.

Oil that was used for few weeks. Service was a take out order. So good and fast. Some people were sitting for lunch buffet. Naans were dry and rubbery. Sheesh kebab was okay, it was that $2 chicken kebab chopped with some onions n green peppers and lemon and they charged me $15 for it. $45 down the hole. Raita was too sweet and carroty. It's basically American version of Desi food. They just took the Desi out of it. Kashmiri naan was just the most unappetizing orange colored thing with coconut shreds in the folds. What happened to almond shreds and raisins on Kashmiri naan. Post Covid times, food is just super expensive and the quality is gone. I am done. Impressed that they received a 100% compliance score from Health Department. No violations. Bravo! One complaint: Buffet starts at 11:00, yet Naan was not put out until 11:50. However, the Plain Naan was warm and very good! I was selective about what I put on my plate. Again, Tandoori Chicken was overdone--dry and tough even the thigh piece I tried to eat. Not okay. Chili Chicken is good. It is similar to Chinese Sesame Chicken. Tikka Masala was very good with tender chicken. Spinach with chickpeas was good. The two rice choices were nice and hot. The Mulligatawny Soup was lukewarm and thin and spicy as expected. Cabbage is excellent! Nice flavor and cooked well. Dessert was their regular rice dish that I did not want to eat.
