We came for the buffet and were seated at a table with a white paper table cloth that Harrison could draw on. As low budget as it gets. Our table rocked back and forth and the ambiance was lacking. It seems to be a work in progress. However, a nice epoxy-pour bar (complete with boats and fish and shells) was in one area and two large televisions were high up on the walls. The food was good and there were lots of dishes I didn't recognize, which I interpret to mean they have a lot of "non-standard" recipes on their buffet. Some might call that "authentic". It was a Saturday and they have a lunch buffet every day, though the weekday buffet might be smaller. In sum, it was $18 about 20-30 different items including multiple sauces and garnishes. Chicken, goat, fish... all were represented. I missed some of the regular items I see elsewhere but I can't exactly put my finger on what I wanted. It was a bit spicy which I appreciated, though my wife didn't. Fresh naan was brought to our table. We were never asked what we wanted to drink but cold water was brought and that was sufficient. Of note: there was no fruit on the buffet, and very few raw vegetables. I had hoped they would have had oranges or mangoes or something (for our toddler) but nope. Nor did the attached grocery store stock any fruit either. Huh? That was disappointing. It wasn't cheap, it felt like eating in a run-down garage, and it was very quiet as there was no background music at all. Not a great location to bring a date. But, we did talk to the owner on the way out and he was very kind. I hope to come back in half a year and see how it has improved. I wish them well.

As you walk in, it's not fancy or looking special. Just a regular place in a strip mall. Don't judge a book by its cover. We were super disappointed that the buffet was closed but they were gracious to offer 20% off our meals. First to arrive was the garlic naan which was good. But I really want to talk about the Chicken Korma! I wanted spicy so he asked me from 1-10 how spicy. I ordered a 5 because the waiter said that most people who say they like spicy find the 7 too spicy. It was PERFECT! Finally something spicy that was perfect. It was so so delicious I am still thinking about it. Everyone else ordered the tikka chicken which is a safe bet if you're starting to venture into amazing Indian food. I just love all the flavors!!! Food wise, the only disappointment was the chai tea. I did not care for it, and it was served in a takeout cup which was weird. The waiter was amazing. Very attentive and friendly explaining all the dishes well. I would definitely return. PS I tried to come back again for the buffet but they were closed again. I am wondering if they're going to do away with it. I would call ahead of time to check.

We chose 2: plain and cheese. Both were good. The restaurant features Mediterranean and Indian cuisine. The portions were large. We had enough to take home. Taste of Marsala does a brisk take out business around dinnertime and beyond. According to the server, much of the in person dinner crowd shows up before 7pm on weekdays. The lighting inside the eatery is dim. That's why my food pictures are bluish. I can assure you the food tasted even better than it looked.

The food is the BOMB here - no reason to think of anything else. A lot of choices, too many to try all, but everything we tried was of good quality and I'd say bold flavors in well seasoned dishes. Tried all my typical favorites: palak paneer(spinach), yellow cabbage, goat curry , tandoori chicken, rice pudding w/almond, pistachio, cardamom. Every dish was either equal to (or mostly better than) their counterparts I've had in other restaurants. Note: as is typical in goat curry whether Indian or Caribbean,(and often w/Chinese food); meat is crosscut ie., small bones may exist. Expected in this dish/easy to find bones; goat was tender, melt in the mouth delicious. Both Nan+ pappadum on buffet, all the dipping sauces were there + well made. A lot of fresh flavorful food going on in this establishment. It was a pleasure to find this place. Last but not least, free drink included. Rare @ Indian buffet. Not a soda person, so I just loved that they had hot and iced Indian spiced tea. We will return here often, and told the chef how it was the best tasting Indian buffet we've been to in the Albany area & happy to review a restaurant like this. Highly recommended. Really good! Waiter was available as needed but not obtrusive. Friendly staff. Huge parking lot outside.

It looks like it used to be a Five Guys and the Shalimar team couldn't afford a proper remodel. Though it does need some attention here and there, such as along the wall next to the table at which I was seated. But don't let things like that take away from the great food here. The lunch buffet (slightly higher price on weekends) has an assortment of vegetable and lentil dishes, several chicken offerings and today a goat dish. Everything I sampled had very strong and distinct flavors. My favorites were the chilli broccoli and the lemon chicken, I needed second helpings of those. The chicken tikka masala will probably be more tender as the day goes on. I thought some of the vegetable dishes and the dal were a bit watery, though still delicious. You get quite a lot of naan (regular or butter naan are offered). Dessert today was a vermicelli kheer with a hint of cardamom, and a very creamy carrot halwa with just the right amount of sweetness. There are quite a lot of Indian restaurants in the Capital District that offer a lunch buffet. I feel this is the best one on the east side of the Hudson River, and a place I'd choose to visit again when I'm in that area.

Wish we got some photos on this visit, but we will be back to enjoy the food again. They have an extensive menu where you can have various spice levels and a lot of different curry types. Drinks are in cans and bottles, so if you're a fountain drink feen, this may be a bit challenging for you. As for ambiance, there was only one thing that I would wish for and that is music. The food is always exactly what I'm hoping for, and the service is always quick. I don't have to wait very long to get my food, and I always leave happy. My go-to is the Chicken Vindaloo. I have a pretty solid heat tolerance, and I don't recommend this to anyone that can't handle a bit of heat... I sometimes find myself sweating after this dish, but it is so worth it. My wife orders the Chicken Tikka Masala and it's also very delicious. I've tried a few chicken tikka masala dishes in the area (by extension of my wife) and this is my favorite. The sauce is a rich, buttery sauce that tastes amazing, and the chicken is always so tender. We share a helping of rice for the chicken tikka masala and vindaloo. It is plenty of food and we typically leave with leftovers (which reheat nicely). I do also love the copper-wear. Some of the appliances are getting a bit dented, and unfortunately the window in the front is cracked and I notice these small things, but the food is good enough for me to look past that.

The menu is pretty extensive for the seemingly small kitchen space you can see behind the counter. My vegetable samosas (2) were piping hot and had a decent amount of "not potato" in them, accompanied by 2 sauces. The Chicken Tikka Masala Bowl includes a generous amount of well-prepared rice. Normally I pass on rice except as a vehicle for sauce, but I finished this. The sauce had a reasonably deep red color and an enjoyable spicy flavor, maybe a little less tomato flavor than I've had elsewhere, but still quite good. Naan, wrapped in foil, is fresh and hot, but not necessarily crisp. Flavored naans will have the flavors as a stuffing. My mango lassi was excellent - I almost wanted to steal a larger milkshake cup from nearby Herbie's and ask for that to be filled up instead. All in all, if you are looking for an Indian meal while at Galleria 7, you will be very satisfied here.
