I got takeout from here with my friends. It was delicious! They called us when the order was ready so that we knew when to pick it up. Loved everything we ordered. We got 3 appetizers and 4 entrees.

    What a MESS?? So UNHYGIENIC!!

Traveled to Albany and had worst food delivery and customer services. I like Indian food, so I ordered a dinner meal with lassi and lassi was served in coffee cup with open where it can easily spell in the delivery bag. It was spelled all over the food and the bag was completely wet. I called them and tried to explain about the situation, but a male individual hanged up a call intentionally without proper response. I called back again and politely expressed if they can response to this situation, but he stated it is Uber problem and not theirs and hanged up the call. In regard to food, I tased a food a bit and it was saltier, one-layer dried paratha as it explained multiple layers in menu and lassi is watery and salty as well.

This is 1/2 portion of one of the rice orders, one of the two samosas, about 2/3 portion of Rogan Josh topped with the marinated peppers.

Delicious! A great dinner at an awesome price. take-outI've been trying to call in my take out orders when possible save restaurant owners fees from on-line ordering systems. I admit I struggled somewhat as I had a hard time understanding the person I was speaking with. But I'm happy I persisted as we were quite pleased with our entire dinner. We ordered their Special @ $16.95 which included an appetizer, an entrée, Basmati rice, Naan, cucumber raita, mango chutney, and rice pudding. My dinner companion chose the samosa appetizer and Chicken Vindaloo (mild). I chose the samosa appetizer as well (for ease of ordering) and beef Rogan Josh. The spices of the dishes were delicious. Both had large chunks of boneless meat. My beef wasn't the most tender but, again, for the price and flavor, it was quite good. Each of our meals came with two large samosas which were loaded with potatoes and peas. Along with the raita and chutney, we found other sauces and peppers which complimented our dishes nicely. The Naan bread was still piping hot and the rice cooked to perfection. Even the rice pudding was good...probably the best I've had though I haven't been to too many Indian restaurants. We'll definitely be ordering from Curry Leaf again and again.

    A feast for all.

Meh. It was take-away and we ate it. Not the best and not the worst...esp if you're staying at a hotel in Albany.

Reviewing this spot again after nearly 4 years!…read more In my eyes, this spot has withstood the test of time. Maharaja still holds a dear place in my heart. The food is always exactly what I'm hoping for, and the service is always quick. I don't have to wait very long to get my food, and I always leave happy. My go-to is the Chicken Vindaloo. I have a pretty solid heat tolerance, and I don't recommend this to anyone that can't handle a bit of heat... I sometimes find myself sweating after this dish, but it is so worth it. My wife orders the Chicken Tikka Masala and it's also very delicious. I've tried a few chicken tikka masala dishes in the area (by extension of my wife) and this is my favorite. The sauce is a rich, buttery sauce that tastes amazing, and the chicken is always so tender. We share a helping of rice for the chicken tikka masala and vindaloo. It is plenty of food and we typically leave with leftovers (which reheat nicely). I do also love the copper-wear. Some of the appliances are getting a bit dented, and unfortunately the window in the front is cracked and I notice these small things, but the food is good enough for me to look past that.

During my visit, I ordered the classic yellow dal tadka and Kashmiri dum aloo and both exceeded my expectations. The dal tadka was comforting and beautifully prepared, with the perfect consistency and a well-balanced tempering that enhanced the natural flavor of the lentils without overpowering them. It had that unmistakable homemade, authentic Indian taste that is surprisingly hard to find. The Kashmiri dum aloo was outstanding. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, absorbing the rich, aromatic gravy infused with traditional spices. The depth of flavor, subtle heat, and creamy texture were exactly how this dish should be prepared. Honestly, I haven't tasted such an authentic and well-executed Kashmiri dum aloo anywhere in America. Ambience was very nice and service was exceptional too. If you are looking for genuine Indian flavors prepared with care and authenticity, I highly recommend this restaurant. It delivers both quality and taste in every bite.

We…read moredefinitely wanted a location that served Doas and narrowed it down from three under consideration to the one that was closest - Spice Malabar. Our previous experience here was only with takeout about two years ago and we were quite pleased. The only downside on that occasion was finding out that 4 peppers on the menu for the dish that I ordered for myself was well beyond my spice tolerance. Certainly not the fault of the restaurant. We started out with a bottle of Saratoga Water (still) ($5) that is displayed upon every table as you are seated. I also couldn't pass up the opportunity to have an Ubu ($7) from Lake Placid. It was so tasty even though it was in a can. Papadam and chutneys were served while we perused the menus. Deviating from our tradition of starting with Mysore Masala Dosa we decided to try the Spring Dosa ($15). It was delicious enough to consider having again. Served with the traditional sambar and coconut chutney, the dairy rice-lentil crepe was a beautiful golden brown surrounding the flavorful filling of potatoes, panner, spring vegetables (which gave a contrasting crunch), and a lightly spicy spread. For her main course, my wife chose the Vegetables Kundapur ($20) with fresh vegetables, potato, coconut, ginger, and Mangalorean spices. Labeled with a single pepper on the menu, it had a slight level of spiciness and was very flavorful. We also tried a variation of Nan, Lacha Paratha. These whole wheat, griddle-made flatbreads reminded me of freshly made tortillas as their layers separated, but also flaked. They were delicious and less filling than Naan. As I've already noted, there was no way I was going to order any dish with 4 peppers next to it on the menu. I therefore opted to have the Lamb Madras ($26) with coconut, mustard seed, red chili, and curry leaf. Two peppers on the menu turned out to be JUST RIGHT! The lamb was very tender and not gamey. The coconut added a hint of sweetness and the white rice provided on the side for both of our meals was a perfect blend of texture for adding to the curry sauce. Service was friendly and efficient as they appeared to work as a team. Ambiance was very pleasant. There were plenty of leftovers for a second meal.

We came for the buffet and were seated at a table with a white paper table cloth that Harrison could draw on. As low budget as it gets. Our table rocked back and forth and the ambiance was lacking. It seems to be a work in progress. However, a nice epoxy-pour bar (complete with boats and fish and shells) was in one area and two large televisions were high up on the walls. The food was good and there were lots of dishes I didn't recognize, which I interpret to mean they have a lot of "non-standard" recipes on their buffet. Some might call that "authentic". It was a Saturday and they have a lunch buffet every day, though the weekday buffet might be smaller. In sum, it was $18 about 20-30 different items including multiple sauces and garnishes. Chicken, goat, fish... all were represented. I missed some of the regular items I see elsewhere but I can't exactly put my finger on what I wanted. It was a bit spicy which I appreciated, though my wife didn't. Fresh naan was brought to our table. We were never asked what we wanted to drink but cold water was brought and that was sufficient. Of note: there was no fruit on the buffet, and very few raw vegetables. I had hoped they would have had oranges or mangoes or something (for our toddler) but nope. Nor did the attached grocery store stock any fruit either. Huh? That was disappointing. It wasn't cheap, it felt like eating in a run-down garage, and it was very quiet as there was no background music at all. Not a great location to bring a date. But, we did talk to the owner on the way out and he was very kind. I hope to come back in half a year and see how it has improved. I wish them well.

Hi there -- I recently ordered the chicken phaal. Very spicy…read moredish (which is totally fine for me), but I wanted to give some technical feedback on the preparation. The issue wasn't the heat -- it was the pepper execution. The peppers tasted raw and extremely bitter, the way hot peppers do when they aren't roasted or cooked down before blending. Because of that, the dish ended up tasting like two separate elements: * the capsaicin heat * the raw pepper bitterness What was missing was the tomato and onion base that the dish is supposed to have. Those flavors didn't come through at all. Also, the ginger was very fibrous -- like large grated strands that hadn't been cooked down enough. It added harsh texture instead of the warmth and aromatics ginger normally gives when properly prepared. Overall, the spice level was fine, but the technique made the dish feel unbalanced. Roasting or sweating the peppers first would bring out sweetness, reduce bitterness, and let the tomato/onion flavors actually shine. This isn't a complaint about the heat at all -- I enjoy spicy food. This is strictly about flavor balance and preparation. I hope this comes across as constructive; this dish could be excellent with just a few technique adjustments. Would order again of adjustments were made.

Things I liked are the ease of ordering directly through them and not a 3rd party site on their website. Also, if you enroll in the rewards program on their site, they give 20% back of your ordering total for a future order which is the most generous rewards program I have seen. Additionally, the portion sizes are pretty large. I may return for the sole reason that I now have $15 in rewards but wouldn't otherwise return as the flavor of their food is not my fave Indian in the area.
