I've driven by CFC dozens of times and never really thought about stopping even though it's pretty close to my house. From the outside it looks kind of run down and like an off-brand KFC. But I finally decided to give it a try today since I was in the mood for some fried chicken and there isn't anything else close by. We got an 8 pc box with mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. I kept my expectations pretty low but I would rank this below both Popeyes and KFC. My gf picked it up and brought it back home so I can't speak about the experience inside but she said the employees were very nice, the service was quick, and the prices were cheap. The chicken was fresh and stayed hot & crispy on the drive home. The meat was tender and not greasy or dried out either. I just didn't really care for the seasoning that much. The batter was thick almost like a beer batter and it was kinda salty but at the same time a little bland. The sides were very reminiscent of KFC; low quality and chemically. I must have passed this converted fast food chicken chain hundreds of times without ever stopping in for a bite to eat. But I was always intrigued by what wonders may be found inside. The name says "Fried Chicken" but it's also halal, and have kababs over rice with white sauce. Then there's the long menu of convenient fried comfort food, burgers, pizza... and did I see Jamaican beef patties? So what do you get to put a place like this through its paces? Fried chicken and lamb over rice. It's an odd combination for dinner. The people behind the counter were incredibly nice and welcoming. The dining area could benefit from a little TLC, but this isn't about fine dining. The food is fine. Maybe the lamb and chicken combo would be better. But one of the things I enjoy about this dish is the interplay of the white sauce and the hot sauce. However, the bottle of hot sauce available seemed better suited for fried chicken than lamb over rice. The fried chicken wings are sold by the piece and come as full wings. Considering how expensive wings can be, these were a bargain. However, I'm just coming off some stellar fried chicken from a soul food place in Albany. These wings were perfectly fine, but it's probably not anything I would try again. For some reason or another, the halal rice plate options in the Capital Region are booming. With such a competitive market, it's a challenge to stand out. Crown Fried Chicken will scratch the itch if you find yourself near the intersection of routes 5 and 7. It's definitely got something for everyone. And if it's a choice between a chain fried chicken place or Crown Fried Chicken, you should totally hit CFC. But maybe consider trying an additional little something on the extensive menu. Perhaps there's something spectacular hiding in plain sight. read more

We just moved into the area and I had a craving for an Italian Cheeseburger. What chicken spot doesn't have that? We stopped into CFC and have been hooked since. The food is made well, good seasoning and the wait is not long. One thing though, the mac and cheese I had was super bland. Other than that, everything else has been delicious! This is the only chicken spot that I know of in the area that has a drive-thru. The inside of this establishment is always clean but doesn't appear to be too busy. Customer service is superb. Extremely friendly, courteous, and respectful every time we have dined here. We will continue to frequent this restaurant when we want something fast, or have a craving for some food from a good 'ol chicken spot. read more

We really enjoyed our food! I ordered the chicken kebab and my husband got the chicken sandwich. To my delight, my kabab arrived with an enormous salad topped with tzaziki sauce. The salad had green peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers. Although the kabab had the skewers removed already it was very tasty. The rice was spiced to perfection. About halfway through our meal, I got up and ordered buffalo wings to go. Had to have some good chicken for the road!! Toward the end of our dinner business was picking up and the proprietor told us in about 30 minutes there would be a line for seats as well as in the drive thru. If there was any business that really took advantage of their guest/customers it would be this one. I deliberately ordered the same meal from them three weeks in a row an each time I ordered it the price changed. And even when I mentioned it all they said was "well the price went up about three months ago" which obviously was a lie. They have a different price in the drive thru and when you mention it their like oh no that's wrong the indoor prices are right. It's your business why would you not correct the drive thru prices so that the confusion doesn't constantly happen between your guests and yourselves. Then depending on who's at the drive thru they decided whether they can charge you extra for asking for "dark meat only" in your meals. The two stars are only for the fried chicken, nuggets, tenders and fries but everything else is basically gross. I've had a combo that came with mash potatoes and I'm convinced it wasn't even human food. Their customer service is below 1 star and no matter how much you complain not one of them offer any accommodations or help. Notable for being halal, your one-stop for a variety of fast foods served up at the counter. The fried chicken is above average for the KFC-ish style, and they have small plates with excellent kebabs and subcontintental-levantine style home food (gyros, for example, in your choice of three meats). Excellent rice accompaniment (nice hints of coriander and cardamom) with a mediocre salad (icebergy but with gyro-style cucumber dressing) for less than $10. They also have standard-issue fast food - cheesteaks, burgers, fries, mozzalrella sticks, and the like - so it's a decent go-to place for a group that wants different things, particularly if some in the party want a house specialty but others (read: kids) aren't that adventuresome. Food gets four stars for the middle-eastern-near east cheap eats, three and a half for the fried chicken, and three for the typical fryer stuff. Very very few vegetables, but we do note the fake-KFC cole slaw and mashed potatoes that go with the fried chicken were significantly above average. A few downmarks for serving us bottled water (and charging) when we asked for tap water. Fountain drinks and some Snapple-level bottled drinks available. They have an oddly eclectic dessert menu, btw: sweet potato pie and tres leches cakes, among the options, in to-go-style portions. Normally I'd plunk this up to four stars based on variety and local karma, but the place has been kind of filthy on both occasions we've been there - dirty floors, unwashed windows, and a stained drop ceiling. (The Crown was built in a former KFC that was abandoned for years, and if I didn't know better, I'd swear the drop ceiling hadn't been replaced). Also, almost no seating: one four-person booth, and two of those fixed tables with swivel chairs that could be made to accommodate four people each. And, pretty much no parking - just a couple of parallel spots on the side of the lot. Take out (or the drive through) is probably the best option here. After 10 minutes on the phone trying to explain where my building is (apparently the number system was too confusing for him) and getting nowhere he tells me if I don't come outside to get it he's going to leave. The meat was tender, juicy and you could cut the kebab meat with the plastic fork. The rice is to die for as was the tzaziki sauce. If you walk in and can't find something to eat, you aren't hungry.
