As another yelper stated Union parents YES note this pizza joint next to campus. We got a large GREAT pizza for 21.00, back home in the Midwest that is unheard of !!! They had specialty pizzas we got the meat lovers an antipasto salad ( ordered the blue cheese but got something else that was garlicy and delicious). Don't judge a book by its cover. I've driven by Luca's multiple times and from the street it looks like a dive bar. While this spot may have been a college bar in its past life, today it's a restaurant which does a brisk take out and delivery business, and does not even have a liquor license (although I hear one is on the way). One of my friends recommended we try the place for lunch because she had heard good things about the pizza. While the phone was ringing off the hook, and take out orders were leaving the kitchen, the dining room was fairly empty. Maybe it's that people don't have the time to get out of the office for a proper lunch. Or maybe it's that the bar-like setting isn't where people want to spend their lunch break. Personally, I really liked all the Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling. But I wasn't crazy about the big TVs. In my book, two elements are in conflict with each other. But let's talk about the food. Because the mozzarella and melba were definitely in the top half of the from. Crisp, well fried sticks, were filled with tender stretchy cheese. And the melba had some bits of visible fruit in the dark, thick, sweet sauce. That said, they were topped with a sprinkle of parm and herbs, which works well with a side of marinara sauce, but less well with the melba. If the standards of pizza in Schenectady weren't so high, Luca's pizza would be great. And for some, it will still be a top contender, as I know there are a lot of people who enjoy a sprinkle of powdered garlic on the end crust. I'm not one of those people. Perhaps I am a pizza purist to a fault. But I like my pies to be hand stretched and cooked directly on the oven floor. So when I looked at the bottom of the pie to see the telltale hash marks of a pie that was cooked on a pizza screen, I knew part of the craft of pizza making was sacrificed for the sake of consistency. Did that change the deliciousness of the white pizza with ricotta, fresh garlic, and broccoli? Nope. It didn't. And I would totally order that again. Although I would be tempted to try some of the non pizza offerings. There's clearly someone in the kitchen who cares about deliciousness, because everything was tasty. And even the elements I didn't care for were an attempt to add layers of flavor to standard dishes. Although if a pizza place is going to send out caramelized onions on a pepperoni and onion pizza, that should probably be spelled out on the menu. Because those were not the onions I was hoping to see on our pie. Ultimately, I'm glad that I came to Luca's for lunch. Now I know there is another tasty place to get food in Schenectady. Given the strength of the ricotta on the white pizza, maybe the calzone will earn the place its fourth star. Or maybe it will be one of their sandwiches. We'll have to wait and see. read more

First time trying this place. Never thought it would be as good as it was. Pepperoni pizza with a nice sauce, great chew to the dough, crisp bottom. Wings were a star. Got the garlic parm and they were a nice crisp and extremely plump and juicy. And the homemade blue cheese is a winner. We also tried the onions and they were amazing. So crispy! Perfectly done. Right across the street from the backside of Union College. This place has - hige takeout business but we ate in. We went for the wings and they were very good, very crispy. We tried the pizza and it was pretty good, good crust but I would have preferred more of a sweet sauce versus an oregano forward flavor. The blue cheese was made on-prem and just excellent. The service made it a 5+, very attentive and friendly. Turned up touchtunes for us and it set a great atmosphere. Two items to note before you go: 1 they do not serve alcohol 2 all of the tables we saw were high tops with tall barstool like chairs, this could be an issue for folks with mobikity issues. Luca's is a small tavern with a decent sized kitchen. The menu ranges from traditional items to very creative. I have ordered take out and eaten at the bar and both times it was an enjoyable experience. When I ordered take out they beat the ETA by nearly 20 minutes. This review will be based solely on my experience at the restaurant. It was Saturday night and surprisingly dead. Hey casino crowd! Give Luca's a try :) It is hard to spot but very close by. The bar tenders must have been bored. They circled me like sharks constantly asking how I was doing and finding out what I needed. They truly cared about their customers. You can tell this bar has a regular clientele based on the chit chat I heard. They had a good number of beers on tap... the usual suspects. They also had Ubu ale from Lake Placid. One please!! I ordered wings with hot sauce cooked crispy. They came out looking great. The sauce is traditional buffalo style. A fair amount of heat but didn't kill me. Great blue cheese! They charged more for extra which I didn't know before hand. They have some very unique wings most notably PBJ wings. Huh? I am scared. Maybe I will try them with a friend some time. I also ordered a side salad and they put some effort in to it (no iceberg). It was more expensive than I expected it to be but did the job. They have a pretty cool selection of quesadillas. I decided to go with the pulled pork with macaroni and cheese bites. A drunk college students dream! I would not order it again but it was tasty and deserves recognition. Pizza, calzone and stuffed bread is on the menu. This could be a great spot for a pizza and wings night while watching a ball game. So order in or go sit at the bar (those ladies need more customers to take care of!!!) Luca's does what they do right. The owner should attempt to target the untapped crowd. Get more micro brews. My five star review at the moment is for delivery only. DELICIOUS. HOT. ON TIME. BEAUTIFULLY PREPARED. This food is super delicious. So far my favorite is the BLT - this is no ordinary BLT, it's large and in charge. The french fries are delicious. The quesadillas are delicious. The salads are prepared so wonderfully and they are so delicious. I haven't sampled a wide variety of their menu, but what I've had has been great. We order take out or pick up sometimes, and it's always been very good. As pizza fans, that is what we usually get. My favorite is their broccoli/ricotta/garlic pizza. It's so flavorful and delicious. It's easily my favorite pie choice in the area. We've also had their Greek quesadilla, which sounds a bit strange, but it was very tasty. If you're ordering on a weekend night, expect a long wait. It's 90 minutes, typically, in my experience. It's worth it, but you need to plan for that - don't wait until you're already hungry to order. If you're getting food at an off-peak time, it comes pretty quickly. read more

Never have I ever felt more dismissed by a waitress in my life. I've been to Luca's as a teenager and enjoyed the experience after school. As an adult, I was hassled for my ID which I offered twice, my 10 year old niece was given attitude for not ordering her drink fast enough since the bartender wouldn't make her a virgin shirley temple, and upon trying to see their bar selection, I was pressed about the NYS liquor sales laws, which I'm sure even my 10 year old niece could recite. We stopped here after visiting the MiSci mall in Schenectady. We are in town from Buffalo and every time we come out to the Albany area it has been a struggle to find quality food. I found this place on Yelp saw that it had a good rating, was good for dinning in and also good for kids. When we walked in it was empty besides a bartender and had a college bar feel. I became a little suspect of my choice. The visit got off to a rocky start when the waitress/bartender said they had no milk when my kids wanted milk. Not a huge deal, the bartender was one of the nicest servers I've had in a long time. The menu wasn't huge which is a plus for me. I ordered the Big LT, my wife got the Black Bean veggie burger and the kids split chicken fingers and fries. My BLT came out with fresh ingredients and was really big. The fries had some parm cheese seasoning on them which I really liked. It came with a large dill pickle that was good too. My kids loved the fries and my wife approved of the veggie burger. Bottom line don't let the outside and inside of the restaurant appearance scare you off because the food is quality, fresh and tasty. I would go back! read more

The food here is great. I recommend the buffalo chicken quesadilla. Its second to none. The seemingly homemade beauty cheese is also amazing. If your feeling froggy I also recommend the breakfast pizza, I'm not really sure how they nailed this concoction but they did.
