I was assigned the responsibility of picking up the pizza that was ordered for a fireside gathering of three couples. I arrived at the assigned time of 6 pm and was informed that the pizzas were in the oven and would be ready in a couple of minutes. I took a seat and watched a stream of customers come in to pick up takeout orders. Each of the customers also had to wait for their order. After about 10 minutes two pizzas were brought out to me and an apology was offered due to the wait. Sitting around a roaring outdoor firepit, I now found out that one pizza was topped with pepperoni and the other with crumbled sausage. I tried one of each. The crusts are of the thin type, but not super thin. The dough was of average flavor, bits of char on the edge, and golden brown on the bottom. There was plenty of pepperoni on the one, and not quite as much sausage on the other. The sausage was not anything special by my taste. I did not notice any fennel flavor. Overall, the pizza was satisfactory and satisfying, nothing outstanding. read more

Uncle Rico's Pizza, where to begin. We doubted you. May 14th I had this crazy urge for pizza. Upon further investigation I discovered Uncle Rico's pizza place was just across the street from my apartment. Looking at reviews I was a little scared. That's when I decided to stalk the instagram page, where I found out you guys sponsor school sports and are loved among the community. I wanted to come here and give a good review, since for some reason the only people that have reviewed the place have done so in a negative way. We came with an open mind and we left with a new favorite pizza place. The Margherita pizza was delicious, you could really taste the seasoning in the sauce, I loved it. Paired with the garlic knots..where do I begin. Those garlic knots were my favorite. Everything about them was perfect, crispy on the outside, nice soft texture on the inside. Cauliflower crust pizza was delicious. Sauce was very flavorful. Toppings were generous and jalapeños had the right amount of heat.

After reading some of the reviews, my girlfriend and I weren't too sure about coming here, but after hearing that uncle rico pays his employees competitive wages, seeing him defend them in a response to a negative review, and seeing some pictures of the pizza on the instagram's tagged posts, we ultimately decided to try it. I'm very, very glad we did. We got garlic rolls and the Margherita pizza. Both were great! The garlic rolls were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and just about the most dense (in a great way) while still fully cooked piece of bread i've ever eaten. The Margherita had a LOT of fresh mozzarella, a very welcome surprise, and the sauce tasted like fresh tomatoes. I will say, the crust was not crunchy, and I'm sure a lot of people expect that, but I'm not very particular about it so it wasn't a huge deal. I will be returning!! read more

Well, I like to give folks the benefit of the doubt however on this day I just can't. When you walk into a shop and there are 3 people working and you are standing at the counter with cash in hand, and still get no service that's a red flag. The staff was having a very nice conversation amongst themselves, so that's good at least. I'm glad they are enjoying each other's company. With all the time pizza places in this area, I would think they would polish up their game to stay in business. If they are sloppy with customer service I question what other areas they are sloppy with (i.e. cleanliness)....so this gets a 1 star and will not get a second chance. Sorry Rico. read more

Ordered for tonight. No complaints from anyone at the house. The pizza is delicious and extra cheesy, just the way we like it. Delivery driver left it in the correct location, and called once he placed it their. I really appreciate that as I also have dogs and did not want them barking. We really love Uncle Rico's. It's solidly good, and for the price point, great. Of course we love the pizza, but we also especially like their garlic knots. A pizza night just doesn't feel right without an order. If we're feeling ravenous or indulgent, we'll also get their boneless wings, which are very good. The service is really friendly and accommodating. We also appreciate the perks that come from signing up for their email, like coupons and a free bday and anniversary pizza. My only regret is that it took us so long to land on them for our pizza needs. read more

New pizza place in the former St. James Square (now Shoprite Square, in a few years Whoknowswhat Square - it isn't really a square, anyway), two doors down from TCBY. It won't quite fill the vacuum left by the Golden Phoenix for quick family fare, but is still a welcome addition to this end of town. The next closest pizza places are Mario's all the way over on River, Union Pizza in Schenectady, and the host of pizza joints along Union St. The menu is pretty standard pizza-place: American-Neapolitan thin crust pizzas (halfway between Greek and New York style), basic subs, and your three standard salads (Garden, Caesar, and Antipasto). Some fried appetizers, wings, and a single dessert (mini-canolis) round out the fare. Drinks are soft drinks, gatorade, a few iced teas, and bottled water, no fountain drinks. The inside has four four-person tables and is incredibly bland. The orange walls need some bling on them, and fast. The layout's a little odd - no place to wait for takeout orders, no single- or two-person tables, so it can feel more crowded than it is if a few people are hanging around waiting for pick-up orders. The place does seem primed for take-out and delivery service more than dine-in. (They have a super cool LCD screen map on their ordering system that pops up customers names via the Caller ID, presumably for delivery, but I'm not sure I was supposed to see that). We got warm tap water and sort of desultory, almost shy service at the counter for our dine-in order. I think if they made a few changes it could be a lot nicer place to dine-in. Moving the tables, relocating the soda fridge, adding chips or things to nibble on, adding a few free newspapers, and definitely adding something to the decor (old Niskayuna pictures? crazy cartoons? Aunt Mildred's glass figurine collection? anything other than those unrelentingly empty orange walls). would make it a lot nicer very fast. The food: well, it's pretty basic and standard. The crusts are a bit thin, and toppings also on the thin side. They run from $7.95 for a 12" to $12.95 for a half sheet tray for cheese, with the usual couple of bucks per topping thrown in. There are a half dozen "specialty" pizzas but I didn't see anything unusual there (we opted for a couple of fairly standard but build-your-own pies on top of sub, salad, and mozzarella sticks) except for the Nutella "dessert" pizza, which looks kind of insane. Subs were on very plain white bread with extremely standard ingredients. Bland is the word we're looking for. Bland interior, bland food. The bottom line here is: it's fine, but it really really needs to develop a personality of some sort - both the decor and the food - to stand out. I have a feeling the competitive niche is their location and if they stick with it their delivery service, for which they're at least anted up technologically. But it's not going to spring to my mind at this point as "the place to go for pizza" unless something about the food or the dine-in experience gets changed. read more

I was so excited finding a place that had two of my favorite things: boneless honey mustard wings and margarita pizza. I would say the experience was half disappointing. The honey mustard wings were very good and I truly enjoyed them. Not as saucy as some others I have had in the past, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. The pizza on the other hand was a giant miss. The mozzarella and the basil were both burnt and left a terrible after taste in our mouthes which I think was mainly from the burnt basil. We will most certainly be back for the boneless wings and maybe try something else, but I think we will avoid the pizza. Just wasn't what I would expect unfortunately. read more

Very delicious. I never realized how close this pizza place was to my house. I finally took a chance and ordered from here because there are different selections on this menu for their pizza and I've always wanted to try them. We finally ordered the pizza with Apple and ham and it is an absolute delight. On the side we did just get some garlic knots which were so soft and delicious. Wanted NY pizza any type of New York State Pizza, after 13 weeks in Indiana. Really wanted Pizza and wings but the time would not allow it. So I compromised with a slice of buffalo chicken pizza and cheese pizza. Served quickly and hot. While I am not fond of slice pizza this was not dry. Very flavorful and really good. I will have to stop again in 13 weeks for my next pizza fix. read more

Previous review: In a crowded landscape of pizza places in the immediate local region, this place opened on Fathers Day weekend 2014. Our family tried out Rico's Pizza, next to TCBY and Starbucks in the Shoprite Square, as we were left unimpressed. It's fast food pizza with bland crust, what tastes like pre-made pizza, and modest prices. Let's hope with time, they can make an identity with some unique pizza or offerings to have Rico's Pizza stand out. What ever happened to having pride in quality? I wanted to badly for this to be a go to place in Niskayuna, but it is a grave disappointment. Good pizza shop, have some unique specialties, and a big menu. Their website operates as an online ordering app, and it's very well-made - Cool to see a local independent pizza shop could create a better online ordering experience than any major chains' apps I've used. Delivery has always been on time, and pizza is always well-made.
