Done. It was an instant hit. I wanted the pastrami sandwich pictured on the website. Turns out, it was every bit as good as it looked. Probably the best I've had in the Capital Region. I think it came with coleslaw but they let me switch it for a small salad. The beer was cold. The server/ bartender was both friendly and efficient. The food came up relatively quickly. I was relieved and delighted. The tavern has just the right look. It's cute from the outside with nice signage. Inside, the lighting is dim-- especially at night--with the feel of a cool dive bar. If you want a more festive setting during the summer, there's outdoor seating complete with hanging string lights. That actually looked very inviting but my friends chose to stay indoors due to the threat of rain. As we prepared to leave, my friends were wondering why they hadn't been to the tavern before. The owner supplied me with three different sauces on the side to try ranging from mild to spicy (green one). The Chicken Chapli was a cut up well seasoned chicken patty. It had a medium spiced sauce and small salad pieces such as cucumber. Not my favorite. The owner was friendly and thanked me for my business. He said they cater for as few as ten people if interested. I commented on the long hours they are open (10 am to 1:15 am), and he responded with a smile, "We're from the City." There are several tables to dine in if wanted. Lots of natural light from the large front windows makes the place inviting. The pick up counter with kitchen behind it is beyond the tables. The walls are decorated nicely, and the place screamed CLEAN. Parking is in front, and the restaurant is easy to access. There are no steps to enter. Running errands in this area and dropped in to try Memphis King's (1st time visit) I always get the same wings (hot buffalo) at each restaurant/bar to keep things fair. Memphis King's wings are smoked, then fried. I've found that you lose a lot of smoke flavor when they're fried to order but these had just the right amount still present. Very tasty. And crispy! (a lot of smoked wings are grilled but, while delicious, it doesn't render enough of the skin to make them crispy and I like crisp!) I've sampled wings from about 30 places (so far) and I would whole heartedly put Memphis King's in my top 10 for sure. Looking forward to trying their other items because their burnt ends look great.
