The gnocchi was not warm with a small amount of sauce buried at the bottom of the bowl. The pancetta overcooked and the overall dish lacked flavor. The second item was a massive chicken cutlets sandwich. This was similar with no flavor despite the pesto. The only dish that was not boring and very delicious was the carrot cake, likely from a separate bakery. I wasnt drinking that evening but the draft list contained some exceptional breweries. I've been to Mohawk Taproom many times. Their food has been consistently good. This trip I got one of their specialty items, it was a sandwich with delicious hand breaded chicken tenders and fried ravioli with vodka sauce. For their mainstays they have solid burgers. We typically get the cheese curds with hot honey as an appetizer. They have solid beer selections consistently. The bartenders also make great cocktails. "Cold Beer, Warm Vibes, and Bar Food Bliss" Took my wife out for a "classy" night at our favorite local bar--you know, the kind of place where the floors are sticky, but the beer is ice-cold, so you don't really care. My +1 and I arrived early and walking through the entrance there were a few people seated close to the front of the place and I can see why the air conditioner was facing our table and pouring out fridged air. The server arrived took our order for drinks and as usual we shared food. Buffalo Chicken Salad... drenched with so much dressing couldn't eat it! Chipotle Chicken Nachos... chicken that was on it was miniscule and over cooked. I told the server that the dressing on the salad was a little overboard and couldn't eat it she just giggled and that was it! Was very disappointed probably won't come here again... Noticing all the fellow elite yelpers listed is what brought us here and after eating I was quite surprised that it was so highly rated! This is more of a beer place maybe why the rating. Had a great experience on a recent Sunday for lunch. The tap list always has amazing choices you can't find anywhere else locally and reasonably priced too. The place is cozy and staff friendly, though lots of people to take care of for one person when visiting. We had a burger and cheesesteak sandwich, both were very good. The hot honey chicken mac and cheese is good, but not as spicy as I thought it would be... It was still delicious! If you ate even close to the Schenectady, New York area, I would recommend heading here for their wings. The Mohawk Taproom & Grill also has a nice menu with enough diversity of food that even the pickiest of eaters should be able to find something that intrigues them. The Mohawk Taproom & Grill has a very cool vibe and just walking up, it reminded me of old school taverns in countless small town. Came here on a Thursday night with a friend who recommended this spot to hang out. The bar was in the middle of running Trivia Night, so we kept ourselves entertained trying to answer the questions ourselves, although it was too late to join. For a local bar, this spot carries some great unique craft beers on tap. I was able to try the last drops of the Chocolate Monster Cookie they had. Since they weren't able to get me the full 5 ounces, they just gave it to me for free. Delicious! After two sips, I quickly moved onto another choice and picked the Tropical Moon Cake. Not as good as the previous, but still unique and worth the try for those beer enthusiasts. For food, I got the Bacon & Blue Burger ($13), which was a 50/50 patty (lean/fat) stuffed with blue cheese, topped with crumbled bacon and blue cheese crumbles. Came with a side, which I selected regular fries. Overall, the burger was really good, besides the strong blue cheese taste to it. [THANKS, guys!] We have steadily ordered take out through the past 11 months and were happy to try new offerings as they were presented. Giant to-go-container-cocktails were a great addition at the start of shut down last spring/summer when take-out became the only option, curfew went into effect, everything seemed terrifying, and nothing felt normal, yet. Adding a new online ordering system down the road was a welcomed sight, accommodating our group orders for the office by making it super simple to customize each and every addition to the cart. Add to that the fact that I can order online and pay with cash in person and I hear angelic music. [AND you can add merch to your order. SWEET.] Have you had Courtney's cheesecake, yet? When the special from Trouvaille Eats & Sweets is available, do NOT pass it up. It has been sold out before our dinner order was placed three times now for a reason - it is worth the effort to order early! The To-Go Cans selection has been, to be cliché, POPPING all throughout the pandemic, but especially in recent weeks for this sour lover. They release waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too often if you ask my cash stash, but just enough if you ask my novelty loving taste buds. Many an evening I have placed a beer order to pick up on my walk home from the office #Because2020. Burger & Beer night specials on Wednesdays and rotating Thursday-Sunday weekend specials seem to be a hit time and time again, with some stand outs being the CHEESE BABIES [a Trivia Team favorite!] and a variety of Hoagies. I really dig it when my old favorites that are not available on the menu any longer make a return visit to the weekend menu - a tip for fellow regulars who may miss specific menu items from yore. Yep - one of the great things about The Kings is the menu has grown over the years and is changed or adjusted from time-to-time. Some old favorites have remained steadily available: Trifecta Wings [Bone-In? Boneless? Extra saucy? Extra crispy? However you like 'em, they'll make 'em that way - just specify!] Fish & Chips [GREAT portions and super delicious.] The Salads are great, especially for lunch - I tend to go for the Buffalo Chicken but sub for BBQ sauce because I am like that, or the Pear & Walnut with Steak, but all of them are tasty. And the CBR Quesadilla is the standard item I recommend to each and every person who asks me what to get during their first visit and it is yet to disappoint. Favorite More Recent Menu Additions, IMHO: Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich - I thought about this sandwich for 8 straight days after I had it for the first time. And like, texted my friends about it. All the fried chicken sandwiches on the menu are legit, but when it came to trying them, I saved this one for last and was mad about it at first bite. It is SO GOOD. BBQ Pulled Chicken Sandwich - this is tasty, but the kind of sandwich you must eat continually...like pick it up once and do not put it down again because it is just easier and why not - it is delicious you should just keep eating it, anyway. Mike's Favorite is such a good burger. We most often order The American for him and Aunt Patty's Patty Melt for her when we are in burger moods, but when we are feeling like fancy burger night - Mike's Favorite is where it's at. And while I am on my Taproom soapbox, let me wax poetic about some plates removed from the regular menu that I miss oh-so-dearly: The A-Aron. This is a sandwich that dreams are made of, and I am honestly still shocked it has not come back full-time since it left years ago. From time to time, the Trivia Team would try to recreate a A-Aron as close as we could using sandwiches on the menu hacked and rebuilt during our order [the Mother Clucker ... no bacon or lettuce, sub-Carolina gold sauce is similar, but still not the same. Also, worth noting, the Mother Clucker is good in its own right. Go on with your bad self, you Mother Clucker.] The Cali was a Turkey Burger with Avocado and garlic aioli and it was amazing and every time I see the new menu and the Italian Turkey Burger in its place, I get sad. As another reviewer said: this restaurant is OPEN, even though it appears dark from outside. The appearance is confusing and I'll bet it has caused loss of business. That said, the service was exceptional: our server patiently brought tastes of at least 4 different beers until I found one I liked. That was great. And when my burger was not cooked to the degree I had asked, happily suggested that they make me a new one, also adjusting our bill for the delay. Very classy. I had the American Burger, and it was the quintessential cheeseburger for me: juicy, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion, with amazing French fries. I mean, they were crispy and perfect. My sweetie had a burger with Gouda and bacon, and really enjoyed it. There were plenty of TVs for any sports or news a person would want. We found easy parking on the street, and the inside had a casual, pub like atmosphere. I did find myself wishing for a pinball game, but I guess those went out with the pandemic. This rating is intended to be comparative of it's contemporaries; burger 'n beer venues. To be clear, this rating is not stated as objectively standing shoulder-to-shoulder with all-dining types. My wife and I have eaten here since its inception. It should be noted that, for its first 4yrs, the menu and execution was perfect. Since the deviation to "beer cheese" on some of their staples, "The Taproom" menu has lost some pop. To go there without this perspective, The Taproom stands as the unquestioned Best-In-Class in The Capital District for bar food and beer selection. The only thing keeping from the fifth star is our experience with inconsistent service, which is a shame given 90% of the staff is nothing less than sommeliers for craft beer! The burgers are creative and tasty, but the real hidden gems here are the new additions of the chicken sandwich line-up. If you stood in line for a Popeye's chicken sandwich, then you ought to be heading here to sit yourself down for a Mike's Hot Honey or a Firehouse. And while a fountain drink is a fine usher, there is no better accompaniment than a prime beer from Other Half, Equilibrium, KCBC, or any of the other choice regional craft beers from their revolving lineup. A cute little corner pub in Scotia. They have a variety of beers and a nice selection of pub fare. I chose wings and asked for them to be extra crispy. They came out great. My friend had the fish tacos and said they were delicious. My only suggestion is sit closer to the back because it is a little chilly near the front with the door opening and closing. One star off for bringing me the wrong wine. I didn't complain. I ordered Pinot Noir and got Pinot Gris. read more

I'm staying at four stars because the beer selection is so excellent. This was our second visit and it was obvious that it is very popular on a Friday night. The few tables on the front porch were filled and only a few seats remained inside at both the bar and tables. My wife ordered the Philly Steak Quesadilla ($11.95) and I decided to try what was highlighted on the menu as a favorite - a Martini Melt ($12.95). Her Quesadilla was filled with shaved beef, sautéed onions and peppers, and mozzarella cheese. It was pretty straight forward decent. The biggest surprise of my Martini Melt was the name. I didn't expect to receive a martini and didn't get one. The menu said I should expect to receive roast beef, bacon, lettuce, tomato, Swiss, and horseradish mayo from under the sandwich heading. That was exactly what I received between slices of toasted white bread with a side of fries. Plentiful in size, but average in flavor. What about the beers you ask? The wife really enjoyed a pint of Sloop Juice Bomb IPA ($7; 6.5% abv) and I was more than pleased with a Burial Tin Cup Camp Stout ($7; 5.5% abv). There were many others that looked inviting also, but it was time to head home. Service continues to be friendly and efficient. We didn't follow a friend's suggestion to try the wings on this visit, but that leaves the perfect excuse to return. Best wings in the Capital Region. Let me say that again. The Mohawk Tap Room has the best wings in Albany. Seriously. They are huge. They are crispy. They are perfectly cooked. My favorite is the trifecta wings. A perfect blend of Savory, Sweet and Spicy. The blue cheese is kind of average and they don't give you enough but it does the job. The other reason to go here is for the beer. As a faithful Untapped user I will tell you the Mohawk always has 4.0 plus beers. You will find one you love. I guarantee it. I have ordered other things here. Tonight I ordered the French Onion burger. The bun is awesome. The burger was cooked a perfect juicy medium. The onions cooked in a wine sauce were bland and the entire burger bite lacked salt. Some kind of sauce is needed to elevate this burger. I am betting they do have a perfect burger and it is just a matter of picking the right one. I say pass on the French Onion. We stopped into Mohawk Taproom for lunch and had a great time. There was plenty of street parking out front so we had no issues there. It has sort of lodge-like decor with wood panel walls and dark-colored drop ceilings above. Nothing fancy, but it didn't feel divey at all. There were about 12 different beers on tap and all of them were from well-respected breweries and were mostly beers that I hadn't seen on tap elsewhere. There is also a small cooler in the corner with cans that you can purchase to-go. They had some really limited release cans in there, so I would definitely recommend checking that selection out on your way out. I ordered a spicy honey friend chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was delicious and the chicken was cooked perfectly, with a crunchy outside. The honey drizzled on it was perfect. The fries were abundant and were crunchy as well. There were plenty of TVs around the place as well, with about half of them on various sports and the others on various TV movies and sitcoms, so everyone had something to watch if they wanted. We'll most definitely be back and bringing family with us next time. read more

For a small little tavern in Scotia, this place has a banging beer selection. The following names won't mean much to those who aren't beer geeks, but this past Friday night in addition to three kegs of Hill Farmstead, they had Grimm, and some other hard to find breweries on tap. By the time I went on Saturday, they were down to just one keg of Hill Farmstead, but that was plenty for me. Regrettably, I'm a "one and done" kind of guy these days. Having to drive to great beer bars is incredibly frustrating for responsible motorists. The food here is solid. I'm a big fan of the wings tossed in hot sauce. You really shouldn't call them buffalo wings, since they get dredged in flour, but the sauce has that classic buffalo profile. No need to order them crispy. And they are nice and meaty, if you are into that sort of thing. Service is fine. My wife's steak sandwich was under seasoned. Fried green beans were a fun departure from typical french fries, but I wouldn't say they are worth gushing over. And maybe the place gets quite busy later on Saturday night, but at six o'clock we were able to just walk in and grab a table. There are a bunch of televisions. Wherever you look. So if you're not into that sort of thing, this isn't the place for you. It would be nice if the printed beer menus were kept up-to-date a little bit better. The chalk boards can be hard to read for old people with poor eyesight. But the beer menu is listed on untapped. Still, we have this rule about pulling out mobile phones at the dinner table. Not that I needed a beer menu when I saw I could get a HF IPA that I hadn't tried before. Next time, I'm totally trying a burger. read more

Lots of good veg options and curbside pick up available. The sauce on the cauliflower wings was DELICIOUS! Seitan wings were so crispy which was a very happy surprise. Been here a couple times since moving to the area and it never misses! My husband and I usually go on weekends and regardless of how busy the restaurant is the food is always 10/10, (we've had the French dip, Mac n cheese, wings and chicken sandwiches over the course of our visits) staff is efficient & attentive. Our most recent visit we couldn't help but notice (who we believe to be the owner) working hand-in-hand with the bartenders and servers, bussing tables, taking orders, refills etc. and it really emphasizes their how much they care about the day-to-day operations. This was our first visit since the renovations on a bright sunny afternoon. Agreeing with other comments, it was so dark we weren't sure if it was open until we tried the door... The service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and helped us, without hesitation, when we made poor beer choices. The food, though tasty, was lacking. I ordered a Ruben sandwich. The bread was toasted perfectly, and it was delicious, BUT, there was only one small slice of corned beef and half of it was fat leaving very little meat...there were a few strings of sauerkraut and a slice of cheese. I expected more for the price. The fries were great, fat, crispy and flavorful. My friend ordered a chicken sandwich. And again, though very tasty, it lacked a bit. Instead of pounding down the chicken meat to sandwich size before seasoning and cooking, it was a full hunk of chicken in a bun! Not edible as a sandwich.... In this difficult year of teaching and transition, having some kind of go-to for quality beer and food has been a life saver. Words will fail to articulate how grateful I have been that a good high school friend of mine who lives in the area introduced me to the Mohawk Taproom not long after I moved here. The Mohawk hosts a fantastic roster of beers brewed near and far that changes all the time, and as someone who loves dark beers, I've greatly appreciated how their ever-changing selection always manages to maintain variety and goes well beyond IPAs. I've even got into some of the unique fruity beers they've offered as well here, which has been an unexpected delight as that's not usually my cup of -- er, pint of beer. As far as the food goes, I've always found the chicken sandwiches scrumptious, and thankfully you can ask to sub out certain ingredients if there are things you don't want. The Mohawk's fries are also probably vastly underrated on reviews here as they're not the cheapy shoestring kind. I'm not looking for a whopping huge meal, but it just felt too underwhelming. The fish was fried hard as a rock; but the fries were good. The cole slaw? Meh. Not so good. I didn't love the wing flavor we chose (triple threat - BBQ, garlic parm & buffalo), just didn't have that much flavor. The cheese platter was large and you got a lot of cheese, meat and crackers, but it's definitely cheese from the grocery store, nothing fancy.
