Awesome spot for drinks and dinner with friends! A group of us came to Nighthawks before a show at Hanger on Hudson for dinner and drinks and it was the perfect spot! They have a standard menu that is always available as well as a rotating menu with lots of creative delicious options with a focus on farm to table that I hope to be back to try! They have a great selection of cocktails, the sangria is not to be missed and I enjoyed my gin and tonic as well! They also fun idea of a mystery beer for $5 and we got some fun drinks through that deal as well. We ordered the burgers and fried chicken salad with a side of salads and fries all of which were super delicious and the portion of fries was very generous. Loved the option of malt vinegar as well since you don't see that often! Our waitress was super nice and accommodating and the service was very quick! This restaurant is everything I don't really like, but I still had a good time. We arrived after making reservations the day of on a Saturday evening at 7:45PM. It was darkly lit inside (with pinkish/red lights no less); it was extremely loud to the point that I had trouble understanding what my wife was saying (which might not be the background music!); and the prices were expensive. The entire night they played 1980s New-wave British music which I don't mind, but had it been something I detest I would have lost my mind. We were seated at a tiny table with a small candle which provided some actual heat on the cold winter night. Our server was extremely helpful and though he didn't have all the answers he did offer to go and find out. They have a long menu but it doesn't have a lot of food options on it, with most of the pages devoted to alcohol. They had only one dessert option when we were there. My wife and I both ordered the Hanger Steak with fries, mushroom sauce, and green salad (about $40 each). Hanger steak is my favorite cut and hard to find so I jumped on it. Food came out in about 25 minutes, which is amazing considering how small their kitchen is. The steak was cooked perfectly (they didn't ask how we wanted it), smothered in a lovely mushroom sauce, and covered an ample portion of crispy homemade fries which were so good I would have thought them bagged frozen items. Even the basic salad which was just various types of lettuce was great. They aren't cheap, but they are focusing on "farm to table" and that means quality food at commensurate (fair?) prices. Burgers and chicken sandwiches are $15, so if you want something lighter but still tasty you can go that route. Speaking of light, if you go into the bathroom on the right you will find a cold, dark, tiny room lit solely by a PINK bulb. It feels like being on a spaceship (as if I know what that is like), and after when you leave seeing the main light in the restaurant is very jarring. It was a fun experience but not inexpensive and not one that checks the boxes that I look for in a restaurant. Dark, loud, and cramped might be hip for the young or "save the earth" crowd, but I am too old to give up creature comforts for such things. This place USED to be good. It was our go to burger spot. We ordered Mealio and it gets here lightning quick! So, kudos to Mealio! We just received a bacon double cheeseburger from Nighthawks that was cooked so over the top well done it was like eating dust! Zero moisture left in this burger. Now, I like my burger with a little pink and juicy and I can tolerate medium no problem but this?! This is ridiculous. Also No bacon to be found anywhere and little evidence of cheese. We stopped in to celebrate a new graduate in the family. The drinks were so-so. Just not boozy enough. If I'm going to pay about $15-$18 a cocktail--it better be good! The food here is delicious, three of us ordered the burger and fries and one of us ordered the fettuccine with crab meat. The fries really stood out. I've only been to Nighthawks twice, but both times were memorable. The first time we went for dinner, vibes were great, food was amazing, and cocktails were delish. Recently, we went for brunch, and both my boyfriend and I had the spicy braised beef cheek with cheese grits, pickled peppers, crispy onions, and basil pesto. My boyfriend literally said, "It's probably one of the best meals I've had in a long time." The flavor combination in this dish was incredible--everything complemented each other perfectly. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! And can we talk about the presentation? Absolutely beautiful! The drinks were dangerously good, the homemade maple mustard with the gougeres was the absolute perfect balance of tangy and sweet, and where else can you get moules frites?? Yum. Their brunch menu changes weekly, so there's always something new to look forward to. I decided on the Brioche donut, which was essentially a fancy Boston creme donut with the most fabulous cream filling and chocolate ganache on top. I ordered the steak frites and then saw one patron send it back as overly salty. Valid! Sodium levels through the roof, and I like my salt. The lamb, too. Fantastic brunch experience. The Bloody Mary here is extra special, whatever mix they've created is perfection. Also highly recommend trying their beer mimosa made with Narragansett beer - so refreshing. We started with the donut of the week and some jalapeño corn muffins. Just huge and absolutely fabulous! I love this restaurant. I have never had a bad experience at Nighthawks and I've been dining here for years. I've been here with large parties (8ppl) down to just me by myself. Wait staff is always friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Cocktails are always interesting (I try a different special cocktail every time I go) and the food is to die for. Their burgers are what they're known for, but the daily specials are always things that you've probably never heard of. I've looked up things on my phone before I realized that all the waitstaff is well versed in exactly what every thing is on the menu. Our first time here. Two of us drove in from Syracuse, and two others came from New Hampshire. We were looking for vegan, and for the most part, Nighthawks succeeded. We started off with a Common Roots Good Fortune IPA, a Sixpoint Brooklyn Sunny Lager, and Irish Coffee and a kombucha. The beers were fresh and tasty, the Irish Coffee was served in a coffee cup with no whipped cream (very odd), and our server came back to tell us that they were out of kombucha. So, that was exchanged for a bottle of Saratoga Water. For our meal, we ordered the Fried Green Tomato plate, 2 veggie burgers, a salad of the day, and two vegetables of the day. Sides were a salad and fries. One of us ordered a bowl of the corn chowder, but instead got the Pork Belly plate which was served on top of the chowder. No spoon was included with the meal. We ended up taking the pork belly home for later. Also, the salad of the day arrived with dressing on it, even though we had requested it on the side, so that had to be returned. Everything tasted great, especially the Green Tomato plate, the chowder and the vegetables of the day. I don't think it's possible to overstate the experience of dinning at nighthawks. A small intimate dinning room and a chalk board menus that comes down to be noted when menu items are depleted. The staff are attentive and clearly proud of the accomplishments of the chef. When asked, they offer thoughtful recommendations and reviews of the menu. My daughter is a student at rpi and though we live in Los Angeles nighthawks is easily a top 5 restaurant experience. The cocktails are layered and complex. Tequila and ginger?! Why yes, plus adding other flavors elevating a humble drink into a thoughtful experience. On to the food. I struggle to put into words the meal, but it is clear that the chef is thoughtful, intelligent, and highly gifted. Dessert was on par with the entire experience. Nighthawks is a gem and though we are sad our daughter is so far from home for school, we are so happy to be able to visit this extraordinary restaurant. They are probably one of the best and most innovative brunch places around with very interesting flavor combinations. They are a farm to table restaurant with everything fresh made. Dinner has always been great every time I have gone and if I am not feeling what is up on the menu board I just order one of the best cheeseburgers around, which is always available. You really can never go wrong there. The cocktails are also amazing as well. It's a small space and used to be first come first serve, but they now take reservations. After seeing that Nighthawks was nominated for best burger in the Capital Region, I knew I had to give it a try. With that in mind, I ordered the cheeseburger with fries. To begin, the cheeseburger was topped with pickles, bacon, house made American cheese, and special sauce on a pretzel bun. Knowing that, the burger was good, but not great. To elaborate, the meat was incredibly flavorful and juicy, but I did not like the cheese at all. The cheese was runny and had a weird taste that I did not like. On the flip side, the special sauce was delicious. It was sweet and tangy with excellent flavor. In addition, the pretzel bun was fresh, but a bit soggy on the bottom from the runny cheese. To put into perspective, the burger was good, but I will definitely skip the cheese next time. Next, I tried the fries which were definitely house made as well. The fries were crispy and had good flavor, but they were over the top salty. If they cut down on the salt, the fries would be pretty good. Cool little spot in Albany that we just happened upon. Had the carrot soup and it hit the spot. Almost everyone else in my party had the chicken sandwich, overall they enjoyed it. Someone didn't like the spice level and thought it was too hot, which they weren't expecting. With one chef in the kitchen it took a bit for the food to come out, so make sure you have plenty of time to eat when you go there. With the menu changing weekly (burgers and fries are a mainstay) a visit to Nighthawks is always an adventure. Vegetarian and vegan options are a plenty, and are just as complex and exciting as the meat dishes. Cocktails also seem to get the same level of attention to detail. Made a same day last minute res at nighthawks with a few friends. They were able to accommodate 5 people easy for a small space. The waitress was very friendly and politely let us know how much time we had til the next reservation. Table shared shishitos, olive and almonds and potatos... all of which were plentiful sharing portions. We all got the fried chicken sandwich or a burger. The fried chicken sandwich was insane. Like I had to deaconstruct it to eat it but I wasn't mad at that. It was VERY good, great portion size for the price. Cocktails were delicious as well. At this point the weather was gross and we were hungry, so nighthawks it was. It's a fairly small and a little loud so at times I had trouble hearing. They had no tables open (someone must have reserved the empty table for 2) so we were offered the bar, which I typically would decline and just wait, but we were a little time crunched. We both ordered exactly the same thing - bacon cheeseburger and fries. It did take a while to arrive, but as I say they were busy and the kitchen did not stop moving. I am super picky with temperature and this came to me hot. The fries were piping, which is just how I like them. The burger - I had high hopes and it was a good burger. If I went back I'd def not have it as it comes. I'd ask for no house dressing on it as some bites seemed to be drowning in dressing and I could not taste the burger / bacon.
