Traditional wangs (bourbon bbq & triple threat)
    Declan C.

Stopped by this soot for some Wednesday wings and beer which hit the spot. Service was solid, and it had the feel of a classic sports bar with laughter and chatter around. I tried the triple threat, and chipotle bourbon bbq. The bbq was alright, tasted like a Carolina bbq with some extra zing. I really enjoyed the triple threat sauce which had a bit more heat to it. Squatch was also tasty but, at this time, I highly highly recommend the bone-in wings as opposed to boneless. The bone-in wings were as they seemed, but the boneless wings came out looking more like small breast fillets.

Heard nothing but great things about Finn's. Honestly all the great things were true. They have a different menu every week, which is cool! Sundays they offer chicken parm (not on the menu). From this week's menu I ordered the smoked mackerel dip (divine!), fried plantains (yummy), Mac n cheese, lamb ragu (so good), and swordfish which was definitely my fave! If you happen to come here when the mackerel dip and plantains are on the menu, try them together! I'm telling you it's like magic in a bite, the mix of the saltiness with the sweetness and spice the best pairing I've had in a while! The service was good just a tad slow, the servers were friendly. The ambience is nice love that it's a converted garage!

A pretty cool place for dinner and drinks with friends! Like a little warehouse with a bar and menu that switches every week. My friends and I really enjoyed our drinks, the banana bread espresso martini was delicious. Their menu is also creative and the roasted potatoes were so yummy. The chicken was also done nicely for my salad. I will say their dishes are definitely on the saltier side however. Our server was super nice and everything came out timely.

This was a very good experience overall. Our server was very upbeat, friendly and filled with recommendations/knowledge of the menu. Unfortunately, the service was on the slow side and water refills were not occurring unless requested. The standout dish was definitely the burrata which was filled with super fresh and complex ingredients. The dry aged burger was delicious too! As a whole, our table didn't love the sauce the plantains were paired with and would have preferred something quite a bit different. The chicken dish washed pretty good overall but not a standout. The ambiance was simple yet sophisticated. This was a very cool place overall.

Finn's is a hidden gem in Troy--well, maybe not hidden anymore. The pasta is outstanding, but here's the surprise: you need to come for the burger. It's hands-down the best in the area--a perfectly done smash burger with Big Mac-style sauce and crispy, addictive fries, worth every penny (I'm acknowledging that yes, it's a bit pricy, but worth it). The bar is equally impressive: a true cocktail bar serving some of the best Old Fashioneds, margaritas, and creative recipes around, plus the standard Aperol spritzes and one-mixers. Not to mention solid wines, and a great local beer selection. It's the staff that really kills it. They're top notch. Finn's nails it on food, drinks, service, and vibe.

We recently met up with friends and had dinner here. It exceeded all my expectations and I'm happy to share my thoughts here. If you're not familiar with Troy, don't be put off by the location since it's a bit outside the standard "downtown" district. There is a small parking lot and plenty of street parking. The space itself isn't large, but it's somehow both cozy and eclectic. Our server was funny, helpful and attentive, but in no way intrusive. I wish I could remember her name. The menu has a number of small to medium plates and then a few larger plate options. We split the buratta dish and the buttermilk fried chicken. The buratta was a fascinating mix of flavors and was so delicious we all fought over it (thus no pictures). The chicken (more of a medium-sized sharable plate) was tender breast meat with slightly spicy batter in a verde sauce. As a huge fan of the three best food groups (crispy, savory and spicy), this was my favorite dish. It's more than enough for four to share. Two of my group got the sausage ragu bianco and loved it. I had a bite and the pasta was perfect and the sausage was flavorful without being greasy. I had the mushroom tostadas and they were perfect. The mushrooms were smoky and savory and the tortillas (blue corn) were fresh and didn't even break! Their drink list is interesting and includes some nice mocktails. My only regret is that we didn't leave room for dessert. I cannot say enough good things about our experience and I can't wait to go back (especially in the nice weather when they open the big doors). The last time a new place blew me away like this was when Peck's first opened. Truly worth the visit!

What a great new spot in Collar City! I had heard about this restaurant from people all over town and on Instagram too. I decided to check it out on a Saturday night and was sat immediately upon arriving. They have a few booths, many high-top tables, and bar seats. Their cocktail menu is pretty impressive! I went with the Spicy Ginger Margarita, which had the perfect amount of heat from the jalapeños. My boyfriend ordered the 13th Album- a non-alcoholic drink with ginger beer, black tea, and citrus. It was a great choice! For our appetizer, we opted for the Shrimp Dumplings in red curry sauce. The portion size was amazing! There were about 6 of them, and the sauce was so creamy. It had a great amount of heat, too. For our entrees. I ordered the Buccatini Amatriciana - a pasta dish served with pork cheek and chilis in a fresh tomato sauce. The portion was massive, and the pasta was so fresh tasting! My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken sandwich, and the Calabrian Chili Honey sauce on it was perfection. The fries were also super tasty and reminiscent of good fast food fries. Overall, Finn's is a great choice for good, elevated eats in a casual but modern environment. The staff are extremely welcoming and attentive. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more things!

This place is super cute and fun. The food portions were awesome. Only wish the menu was a little bigger.

Great place. Good food and drinks, okay beer, that part could really use some attention. In my eyes this menu works best to share between a few people, bigger appetizers and entrees. Limited seating but they really have something for everyone. The lamb meatballs were absolutely to die for even for the non lamb lovers, spicy and salty and sweet accompaniments. Octopus I usually always love, served with papas bravas

Lucas Confectionary has such a warm, inviting vibe all around. It may not be a one stop dinner spot, but it is an amazing pre-dinner stop for some drinks and appetite inducing snacks. With the extremely limited menu and offerings, you expect everything to be thoughtful and serve a purpose, and they deliver. For my drink, I ordered one of the red blends and it was very good for sipping along side a board of charcuterie and cheese My small group opted for the "pick three" option for a board. We ordered the manchego, smoked duck breast, and the pâté. It was a superb plate. The manchego was salty and funky, offered with dried apricots. The pate was rich and fatty, offered with whole grain mustard, pickled onions and cornichons. The smoked duck was offered with a blueberry-mustard compote. Also all accompanied with some nice fresh bread. Each flavor served a purposed and made for several tasty bites that piqued my interest. For a pre-dinner stop, I was very impressed. Also, sad to see this location absolutely empty on a Saturday evening. Lucas Confectioary is a perfect spot for an intimate date night, meeting friends, an after work drink, girls night, etc. Highly recommend a visit here!

I had some time to spare recently after dropping my dog off at a veterinary clinic in Troy. I ordered the Turkish Breakfast Plate which turned out to be the most expensive breakfast on the menu. It came with a lot of food. It included eggs, Simit ( a Turkish sesame bagel), grapes, toast, honey, olives and cream cheese. I also ordered a Turkish coffee which is a little stronger than what I'm use to. It hit the spot. Service is fast and friendly. The restaurant small but clean and cute. It looks as though the owners might have added a table. There are three or four tables in all. There's a new partition in the kitchen providing a little more distance between customers and those working on food prep. Gone are the beautiful ornate gold detailed Turkish dinner plates and teacups. I found them charming though not practical. I sort of miss them but they looked like heirloom items which wouldn't be appropriate for day-to-day use. They've been replaced by simple white dish-ware. Much more cost effective. FYI. There are no restrooms for customer use. That issue never came up for me but an older couple came in looking for a restroom and the owner advised them to go to the fast food restaurant down the street. As for the food, it was every bit as good as I expected. Some things don't change. I took the leftovers home and made another meal of it the next day.

And that ranking is well deserved. You get a strong familial feel walking into DeFazio's. If you're lucky enough to meet the Boss himself (he will actually be wearing a shirt that says "Boss"), he will give you a history lesson on the pizzeria, his family, and the state of pizz-ology Nationwide. He proudly proclaims that he is still The Sauce Guy around these parts because he has to keep up the quality control. There's something special about eating at a restaurant where the owner cares that much about the product, and they want you to as well. I encourage you to take the plunge and order the General Tso's pizza. It sounds insane, I know. But if you grew up eating this stuff, it will take you back to a time where you were traversing a mall food court and eating free samples (funny enough, that was the inspiration for this pizza). A lot of chicken-based pizzas will have red sauce as a base, but this is actually replaced with the Tso's special blend which has a beautiful sweet-heat to it. If you're coming here for the first time, it's nice to also balance a pizza like that out with a classic. Maybe a cheese or something similar. That way you can try out the red sauce and cheese in its purest form. I had the pleasure of walking through a cheese packing session that was going on in the restaurant, so I got to see that raw mozz up close, maybe 20 pounds of it. At that moment, I felt as though I was approaching enlightenment. When fully melted on that 'za, this cheese has the ideal mix of density and squish. DeFazio's has a special place in my heart. I haven't been to this original location on 4th St. in Troy for a few years. The family operation is nearly 100 years old. Remarkably, it's very much as I remember it. A tiny place with three tables. Some of the seating looks like repurposed church pews. The youthful staff, friendly as always. They were running into some delays as orders came pouring in just before dinnertime. They'd have to check to see if they could fit our order for a big pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, onions and peppers. They squeezed us in! Since the wait would be between 20-30 minutes we kept ourselves busy by checking out the desserts in the self serve refrigerator. I picked out a slice of "hangover" (alcohol) cake and I devoured it before our meal arrived. It was so delicious and naughty fun to eat our dessert before the meal. The pizza was fantastic when it arrived. I prefer crisp crusts-- this one was not-- but it was awesome just the same. My friend and I were so hungry that we consumed half of the pie before I realized that we hadn't photographed our delicious pizza. The remaining half was boxed and taken home to be enjoyed for a couple more days. The staff was so ready. They came to our table with the box and we settled up our bill. A lot to be said for tradition and quality. I've also visited DeFazio's in Albany, but I have yet to visit the relatively new restaurant up the block. Thanks, DeFazio's, for another great meal.
