I usually get "The Downtowner" (a delicious roast beef sandwich with the works which I've had each and every time I've come here because it was so good that I couldn't think of trying anything else), but I am about to try "The Gambino" -- Italian, but you probably knew that.) The ultimate lunch spot in Troy while also keeping life in Troy affordable AND maintaining quality taste in all its food options. The shop's motto since its establishment is to be a place where you can get a $10.00 lunch (not including NYS outrageous sales tax) and they have maintained that since. Every sandwich on the menu is a star with my favorites being the Gambino and the Frear Park. The locals flock to this daily lunch favorite and if you're a newcomer, you should too. My colleague and I walked out of a chilly gray day and into this welcoming cafe. Doreen greeted us and was so friendly and warm, such a lovely ray of sunshine! The food was scrumptious, we had the vegetable, beef, and macaroni soup that was all the wonderful comforting things a good homemade soup should be. We shared the west coast (take on a turkey Ruben) and it was absolutely delicious! We chose the pesto pasta salad side which was amazing. We also shared a chicken salad wrap (fresh and well seasoned) with house made baked chips that were so yummy I could've easily consumed an entire pound! I have seen Koni plenty of times but never was able to stop in due to the hours. I finally made it in for lunch and loved the experience. The atmosphere is great with a nice Cafe vibe. The staff was extremely friendly and seemed to know most of the regulars stopping in. This place has lovely, wonderful staff! Very helpful and friendly. They have great breakfast sandwiches and a very affordable menu. I got The Hound (eggs, cheese, bacon on a roll), and a coffee. This place could be amazing although there is one thing I've noticed after going here 3-4 times. It always smells like bleach, or ammonia, or whatever cleaner they use. I never want to sit inside because it is strong and I feel slightly lightheaded being in there for more than a few minutes. Maybe it's because I'm there at a similar time of day just after they mop.. I don't know. Perhaps they might want to ventilate more, switch cleaners, etc. I wish is that I could go here before or after work. I'm a local, and whenever I walk by, it's closed. Their hours are 7:30-3:00. Either way, I recommend checking it out. A great spot to experience Local Troy. read more

I love Koni's! Period. I have been there several times and NEVER been disappointed. From the yummy blueberry muffins to the amazing salads and sandwiches. The breakfasts are so so good as well. This place is just FANTASTIC! From the food right down to the staff are just amazing. Koni's recently opened, taking over a space where the Broadway Cafe use to be. Their menu consists of a variety of signature sandwiches and salads. They also serve breakfast and are opened at 7:30 a.m. What I love most about Koni's, aside from their delicious food, is their price range and delivery service. The prices here are very reasonable and portions are very filling. I haven't tried their breakfast yet, so I'm looking forward to that. Be sure to try the Tuscan Chicken Soup. It is DELICIOUS! Koni's has gone down hill from the fresh, fast lunch spot we discovered it to be a couple years ago. The wait is a joke. Major drop in the quality of the food. My co-workers and I stopped at Koni's one day and we cannot stop going back. The food is great and the people are delightful. It is our go-to spot for lunch. When you walk in you order at the counter and can either get takeout or stay to eat. They make the food fresh, so they will call you when it is ready or bring it to your table. It doesn't take too long. Make sure to check their specials on the board outside or on the wall inside. The standard menu is very good, but the specials can make it difficult to decide. I have loved everything I've tried, but I usually like to get the Mitzi and the fresh brewed iced tea. My co-workers have enjoyed the Hudson and the Downtowner. This place is definitely a hidden gem! I would recommend going for lunch as their menu of sandwiches and salads is great. I've never actually been here for breakfast but I can't imagine it being bad. The staff is always friendly and smiling which is another plus! The only thing is I wish they were open a little bit later, if you go past 2:30pm the grill is off so you can't order any grilled sandwiches but they will still whip up something cold for you in about 5 minutes! read more
