The food is ok, could make it better myself. The worst part is the service. We came in and asked if we could seat anywhere. They said yes. 15 minutes later I walked up to the counter and asked "are we supposed to order at the counter"? The reply no I'll be over. They where all just standing around not waiting on any other tables. After they finally took our order. She never came over and asked if everything was ok. I had to go up with my coffee cup to get a refill. Give it up! Seriously, why are you even open if this is how you run your restaurant. read more

After decades of driving by this café, we finally decided that today will be the day that we try it. We pulled into the parking lot, drove the whole length without seeing a spot, looped back onto New Scotland, and then went for a second landing approach. This time, a car had recently left, and we were able to secure a spot. We sat in the car for the next five minutes, watching the line stretching out of the door, to see how long we would have to wait, and if it was worth it. After seeing three couples leave over those five minutes, we decided to wait. We realized that it was worth the wait as soon as we walked in. The restaurant, while relatively small, is much larger than what we thought, based on the view from the street. There's a small waiting area with a few chairs, then a decent sized open kitchen, with four or five people preparing food. Bar seating wraps around it and then a sizeable dining room surrounds it. I'm not good with estimating seating capacity, but I would guess that there were around 100 guests seated around us. There were two servers, someone who I assume was an owner/manager, and someone bussing the tables. We went with the specials, of crunchy caramel French toast and crab cake egg benedict, with a side of the house made corned beef hash, and a coffee. We read online that the place is cash only, and there were no prices listed for the specials, so we made sure to have a few extra 20's with us, to cover the bill. The food and coffee were delicious, with generous portions, and beautiful presentations. There's even a TikTok channel, set up by the restaurant, showcasing the food! After polishing the meal, we were given a paper bill, that we took to the register up front, settled it, and then dropped the tip into a basket of cash. This is a place that we will definitely come back to, as well as bring others to, as it instantly rose to the top of my breakfast places in the area. The large, private parking, clean bathroom, and ATM machine, all make it a much easier place to frequent, which combined with top notch food and service, make it a winner. read more

A while back I had asked for suggestions on where I could get some good biscuits and gravy and someone recommended here. I finally got a chance to make it out there yesterday and loved it. It's a cute, no frills, diner style spot located in a small strip plaza with plenty of parking. The menu is small and simple but the food is homemade and everything you could ask for. The pictures don't really do it justice. I find a lot of places load you up on bland uncooked homefries. But here I thought the portions were perfect. I ordered my homefries well done like I always do and they nailed it. They tasted like they were cooked in some kind of animal fat so some might be turned off but I loved the flavor and barely needed to add any salt & pepper. The prices were very reasonable and two orders of biscuits and gravy, a side of sausage, and a tea came to $28 after tax. They are cash only but there is an atm inside. They weren't very busy at 11:30 on a Saturday but the service was exceptional even for being slow. Our waiter was super friendly and the food came out in about 5-10 mins it felt like. Even though I don't live very close I would put this on my list of regular spots based on our experience and can't wait to go back so I can try the homemade hash next. read more

Don't go here for the atmosphere but it is a small town friendly diner where you see the grill when you're walking hometown feel adequate spacing food is cooked to order hot and fresh coffee was very good. I would recommend Hedge made in house go for the daily specials. read more

A great, locally-owned hole-in-the-wall diner in a long tradition of locally-owned hole-in-the-wall diners that have occupied that store front in the aging Stonewell plaza. I used to come here with my parents fairly often and still do ocassionally when I'm in town. It's not the best breakfast food I've ever had, but it IS decent and I can't recall ever having a bad meal. The decor is sort of a country homestead feel that fits in well with the area. The cooking all happens behind the counter, which is itself carved out of the room. This results in a friendly, communal feel to the place. Usually when I'm heading out on 85 that way, it's to do something so I associate the Windowbox with fond memories of day trips and recreational drives out through the hill towns. Classic local family owned and operated diner. Windowbox serves what you would expect at a diner and every day adds some interesting special that include specialty pancakes, stuffed French Toast and unusual omelets. The store front is aging strip plaza. they have recently updated the interior but this is not a highfalutin place in any respect. Expect to wait for a seat after about 9AM Friday through Sunday, though everything is so fast and efficient that the wait won't be terrible, rarely more than 10 minutes or so. Counter seating that faces the cook area is in high demand and that is where i always prefer to sit. there are a good 15 or so tables that can be rearranged to handle larger groups if not occupied, which they often are. This is a place that might seem a bit like the Cheers bar in that old TV show. Once you start going regularly, they will know you and chat with you and remember your name. You will get to recognize other patrons and often conversations connect a number of people into a general discussion. The food is mostly simple diner fare but done quickly and well. Hearty portions, well cooked eggs, very good home fries, often interesting sounding specials. I am a stick in the mud in that I get to go roughly once a week and always get 2 over medium with sausage patties (they also have links) home fries and either wheat toast of English muffin. Great, satisfying breakfast every time. Their scratch baked muffins are definitely worth a try, always excellent and they will grill them for you. Simple coffee, standard issue foods, basic loaf breads, you get to watch them cook and assemble your meal if you are at the counter, but the total experience is clubby and friendly and adds up to more than the separate components. If you like joints and generally enjoy diner food and are not stuck on fancy ambiance, try Windowbox. I am hooked! read more

Please ignore all previous post of the window box being acceptable. The wait staff was uncommly rude, never encountered such unfriendly unaccomable waitresses and cooks. It was as if the waitress did not speak our native language of English. So very unfriendly and almost scary. I would not recommend this food place to a rodent, as though I am sure they had many not to mention the wait staff. Food tasted like left overs.it was breakfast hour and had to request coffee. And when the snooty waitress bought it, smallest mug I have seen in my life. Had to beg for water. Cheap with the butter on slices of small toast. Also small servings. Left hungry and insulted. If you are in the area, take my advice, keep driving. Find someplace else to have a meal at. Do not, at all costs do not support this small businness. They are unappreciative and downright rude They have absolutely no reason to have this attitude. No respect for customers. Just do not go there. Atmosphere is so unenjoyable. I've eaten at this country bumpkin business numerous times since I moved to the Albany area. The food is ok at best, the service is ok at best, but the atmosphere at this place, was like a scene from the movie "Deliverance" . I happen to eat at the counter this last morning, and apparently witness the owner scream & shove his female worker into a refrigerator & then fire her. As I turned around in shock I noticed the Hilbilies around me, didn't miss a bite, sat silently, like this was normal entertainment . A great local breakfast and lunch spot. Simple food with fresh ingredients done well, and with good service and little to no wait to be seated. Specialty items like stuffed French toast and the Irish Omlette (with corned beef and Swiss) are always delicious and a welcome departure from the usual suspects at the breakfast table. The burgers are surprisingly good for what you would expect from a place that you might think of more as a breakfast restaurant.
