First time second for my husband and the union cafe. We went for breakfast and decided to sit outside a d enjoy the weather. He got the special lobster Benedict and said it was worth every cent and would get it again in a heart beat. I ended up going for lunch and getting the Greek chicken souvlaki platter with sweet potato fries. 10/10. So much food and the sweet potato fries were some the best I've ever had so crispy. I go in about 3 times a month for a light breakfast. The people that staff the Cafe are exceptionally friendly and provide excellent service. They are never too busy, though the place is busy, to stop at the table or booth to chat. The menu is nice. We love Union Cafe! We have ordered takeout and gone to sit down and the food and service is always excellent. The Santa Fe salad and Mediterranean wrap are our go-to's and the sweet potato fries are also delish! We've done breakfast takeout a couple times too and have been happy with the omelets we ordered. Breakfast part 2!! After having an extremely disappointing meal at a diner near by we decided to go here to get some real food. I am glad we did! This place is cute, charming and we were greeted right away. The coffee is delicious, always a good sign. I was excited to order the lump crab eggs Benedict. I was not disappointed! Real crab meat instead of the ubiquitous sea leg nestled under perfectly poached eggs. The hollandaise sauce was a tasty blanket. The potatoes on the side were so flavorful and cooked to the right texture with onions adding to the taste. My husband's egg sandwich was very good with crispy bacon and a nice hard roll. If we hadn't already been full from our earlier breakfast we would have finished our meals. We boxed up more than half of our meals to enjoy later. Recommended!! read more

Actually, a 4.5 Stars rating Breakfast outside on the patio at 10:00 on a Thursday was very good. Breakfast specials include coffee until 11:00 am; otherwise, coffee is $3.49 which seems to be a high price. Omelets etc. do include coffee. I had the two egg breakfast special which was a good value. The eggs "medium over easy" were cooked perfectly. The bacon was mediocre--limp and fatty. The "home fries with onion" were excellent! My husband had the Deluxe Breakfast special with pancakes which he enjoyed. Home fries were .99 cents extra. Service was efficient and attentive, and the table with an umbrella on the front patio was terrific on a lovely sunny 70 degree morning. The tables on the patio were not crowded. Customers we happened to see were mostly seniors, and many people were picking up takeout orders. read more

We stopped by the Union Cafe while visiting Schenectady for the day. Sunday brunch seemed like a great idea so our daughter suggested the Union Cafe. Clean and cozy with seating spaced well for COVID-19 precautions, there was a homey feel. The staff members were friendly and welcoming. Our brunch of quiche for me, pancakes & sausage for my daughter, and and a California Omelette for Meg, my wife. We also enjoyed Lobster Bisque and home fries. Everything was more than satisfactory, and downright delicious. As we left, we noted that it had warmed up considerably and diners were enjoying the spacious deck which overlooks the sidewalk. We'd have eaten outside ourselves, if it had been warmer when we arrived. I think there's something for everyone on the extensive three meal menu. I recomend Union Cafe for a good meal at a reasonable price. read more

It was not difficult to become fond of Union Cafe. It has a pleasant atmosphere and a great breakfast menu. The entire floor is covered by 2 waiters who work together like a well buttered machine (because butter is better than oil, right?). I was instantly drawn to - and am now addicted to - those Benedicts of theirs. The hollandaise sauce was just about perfect, and when your options underneath the eggs include items such as homemade hash, or lump crab, or a lobster claw, well, it just gets better. The coffee comes out quickly, piping hot, and with a mug of creamers. The next time I was there, the restaurant was already filled with the aroma of their cinnamon raisin French toast, which was equally delicious. When I'm in Schenectady, this is definitely high on my list for breakfast choices. read more

We've been going to union cafe since 2016, it's seriously one of the best local brunch cafes on union street. It's not overprice, always expect fresh cooked breakfast food. Server was so friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of their extensive menu. She came to check on us a few times during our meal. We were visiting the area for a wedding, and the places "in town" were too crowded, so we did a Plan B and drove a few minutes out of the main area and found the Union Cafe. So glad we did! My husband and I had a great breakfast/lunch today at the Union Café. We were out for our daily walk much earlier than usual because my husband had a very early Cardio Version procedure done and it went well and we were celebrating. We were delighted with our meals as well as the service. I had a build your own omelet with broccoli, ham and mozzarella cheese. It came with home fries and toast which were done perfectly. My husband had scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries & rye toast. We both had coffee that hit the spot on a snowy morning. We will most certainly be returning as we live within walking distance. As an added bonus I was able to make my goal of 5,000 steps early in the day. Our waitress was really sweet and most efficient. Been there 2x times in the last 6 months. We live 45 min away and the diners in our area are not so great...sorry Greene County. Our fav place burned down and we have been searching. This place is clean, has good service and they know and love their locals. That's a recipe for success. I did breakfast the first time....this time gyro platter. Very good and solid food. $18 for a salad, gyro meat and fries seems steep...but that's what eating at establishments costs these days. Let it be known that some of the best spanakopita this side of the Mediterranean is right here in Schenectady, and both Zeus and Popeye would be proud. Where else can you order a generous serving of authentic, delicious spanakopita wedges alongside a Western omelette ~and~ blueberry French toast? That's exactly what I did today at this cute café x Greek diner mash up, and I'm not mad about it. Being an Eggs Benny girl, I found myself craving a change, so I went halfsies on a Western omelette with homefries ~and~ the blueberry French toast, one of the day's specials. I appreciate when an omelette has nicely diced, bite-size fixin's, so thanks to the prep team for their chopping skills because today's omelette was on point, with consistently sized pieces green bell pepper, onions, and ham, none of which were a choking hazard. Mad skills, yo. To really hit all flavor profiles, we ordered an appetizer portion of the spanakopita (just three wedges) instead of the platter, which comes with a heaping Greek salad. When it comes to the spanakopita, whatever you do, don't forget to order a side of the tzatziki sauce!! Tzatziki is the classic, refreshing sauce that's a sidekick to pretty much any Greek meal, made from Greek yogurt with cucumber, garlic, olive oil, and fresh dill, but when paired with spanakopita and positioned for dipping, watch out for maximum flavor explosion!! Just be sure to have some lethal Listerine strips on hand because the garlic likes to linger. Like, whoa. Garlic breath aside, it's actually a non-negotiable Thanksgiving tradition in our family to order a tray of spanakopita from Union Café for our pre-feast appetizer spread. It's *that* good. It also makes for a great breakfast the next morning before you go for that piece of pie :-P The French toast wasn't the most memorable Parisian potluck on today's spread, but I appreciated the generous pile of blueberries on top, and they had a surprisingly crunchy pop - score! Who's a fan of mushy blueberries, blah?! But the French didn't completely strike out; the most memorable part of today's visit was meeting the owner's brand new French bulldog puppy, Bentley! At ten weeks old, he was nothing but the cutest ball of wrinkles with big ears, and I 10/10 recommend every brunch serve a side of puppy! Pro Tip: If you order anything requiring maple syrup, be sure to ask for the good stuff (an additional $2), but so worth it you guys! Give this bustling little café a try! read more

Apparently I am the Duke of Union Cafe. I swear it is not because they have some of the most beautiful waitresses in the Capital Region :) I am a happily married man I swear! I have enjoyed many meals here. Usually for breakfast. They have incredible pancakes. A variety of benedicts with homemade hollandaise sauce. The Irish Benedict is fantastic! They also have really creative French toast options. I have only ordered one non breakfast item here. The Gyro platter is really awesome and a very nice portion. The lamb was delicious as was the salad and rice. I suppose I should check out the lunch menu more often. The Union Street cafe goes the extra mile and it shows. The service is swift, meals come out quick and they offer things you won't find in a typical diner. I am definitely a fan! read more

So I heard back from the owner, and she mentioned that breaking hollandaise is a real pet peeve of hers, and that she'll make sure to pass my review along to the folks on the line to reiterate how important it is to check the sauce before it goes out. Brava. Apparently, I also missed a few extra things that makes Union Cafe special. Somehow I did not see that real maple syrup is available for an upcharge. Not only that, but it's served in individual glass bottles so you can take any unused portion home. I didn't see that the kitchen uses real butter and olive oils. That's huge. As is the fact that you can substitute grilled tomatoes for potatoes. Dang it. I totally would have done that with my omelette. Now I'm looking forward to getting back and seeing what kind of healthful meal I can assemble with these added features. read more

Sweet and friendly staff but the restaurant closes kinda early at 2pm when I visited on a weekday .. the waiter was nice enough to let us stay till 2:30 to finish our meal (much appreciated!) .. the food itself was ok .. nothing special..
