I wasn't impressed when I first walked in the door because the place was really small. All I had was bar seating with the stools. The place had about four empty seats in it and so I went down closer to where the cook was and I had to move some of their stuff out of the way because the place is so small but it was OK I was there overseeing what the cook was doing at the same time and the cook come to find out was the owner. The food was awesome. It took a long time to get my order because there was so many people that had ordered before me, including a lot of takeouts, but it was worth it and the price was reasonable, and I would go back in tell others to go as well. read more

Delicious and affordable! First timer here. I ordered fried eggs, potatoes and corned beef hash. Everything was fresh, hot and homemade. I usually get breakfast from McDonald's. The folks at Breakfast Spot made me 2-3 times as much food for the same price. The eggs were over easy instead of over medium but I mixed the yolk with the delicious home fries so it was fine. Corned beef hash was cooked crispy like I ordered them. I don't mind driving a bit further to support a local business, especially black-run business. Tip the counter person! read more

My family and I had a very good experience here. My parents ordered two different kinds of Eggs Benedict (crab cakes and smoked salmon) and enjoyed them. I loved the French toast in particular. The Bloody Marys were tasty and I loved the variety of options (dill pickle, garlic lovers, spicy, etc.) It was very busy and I recommend getting there as early as possible. The Breakfast Spot was a bit of a disappointment after reading the hyped reviews and seeing the long wait for togo orders. This spot has the feel of a classic diner, where you can sit at the counter and watch the cook prepare your food. However I was expecting the food and menu to have more of a unique twist and flavor profile, but instead, I found the food to be prepared with minimal seasoning or added flavor. This simplicity may be appealing to others but I think there needs to be some extra sauce or special ingredient to make the dishes something I couldn't replicate at home. On a side note, the only water they offer is bottled. This took away from the home-y feel of a diner. read more

My friend and I went in for breakfast and the place was hopping! We sat the counter across from the cook/owner and it was amazing the watch him, and his wife cook everything fresh and to order. Their daughters who run the front end were very nice and friendly and had a handle on the orders kept coming in and going out. The food was amazing I ordered a waffle with eggs and pork sausage and my friend ordered the pancakes with eggs and pork sausage as well. Yelp helped me find this place. I was going to go somewhere else (a food truck) but that was closed... so I checked Yelp and saw this was nearby and rated well. It did not disappoint. I got the breakfast with 2 eggs (I asked for over medium) with grits and whiting (fried). Pretty much what I expected because I've seen pictures on Yelp and other diners in the place ordering something similar. The whiting was expertly fried and not greasy, with a nice crunch and savory flavor. Grits were good but I am not by any means an expert judge on that. Interesting menu, not like what you would normally see around here (ie. fried whiting for breakfast). It was enjoyable sitting at the counter watching the cook and other staff work their magic and they have a system that works well. Sitting at the counter wasn't all that comfortable for me, I am not much for sitting on a stool. Coffee came in a to-go cup. Fixings for the coffee was on a table behind you, with half and half, flavored creamers on ice, and Splenda, Equal, and sugar. Parking wasn't great as this is downtown street parking with meters. We had a bad experience here. We were passing through on a road trip. We sat at the counter (the only option), our order was taken fairly promptly, but then we waited, and waited, and waited, and nothing happened. At one point we were given plasticware and were told our order would be coming soon, then waited some more. When after an hour we asked, we were told that there were orders ahead of us. Now, they did seem to be handling a lot of "to go" orders, but at this point we were pretty much the last people there and still had not been served. And my back was hurting because we were sitting on stools at the counter with no back support. So we finally gave up and left. Upon entering we were very rudely greeted with an unfunny and unprofessional "joke": we were told "all that room over there and you guys chose to sit right here", when in reality there was very little room in this very small, rinky dink restaurant. We were already on edge with the lack of cleanliness, and with that comment, it seemed something more was being implied, which made our whole party uncomfortable and prompted us to leave. The Breakfast Spot is kind of a magical place, in that it feels like it should be a 60-year-old beloved local institution despite the fact that they've apparently only been open since 2015. When we visited there was a line out the door of people waiting to pick up their takeout orders, but the folks behind the counter were never anything but totally friendly, even offering refills on our coffee as we sat there hogging four of their few seats (the space is tiny). Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious (the fish and eggs, breakfast sandwich and home fries were all particularly good) the price was beyond reasonable, and everything was completely spotless - no sticky hot sauce bottles or mysterious crusty spots on the menus to be seen! Altogether, this is a totally great place to get breakfast, and also a place you'll probably take your grandkids to one day to tell them long boring stories about the old days when your Apple products were handheld and not subdermal implants. This place is a hidden gem. It's small inside with only counter /stool service. But the food is great. The only thing better than the food is the price! My wife got pancakes that were cooked perfectly. I got an omelet that was way better than I expected. I liked that about four guys were all working so they were able to be quick and efficient. I am a stickler for customer service and when I went in at 12:20pm today with my daughter and sat at the counter, the gentleman working continued to look at us and walk pass us but never greeted us or at least said "I'm sorry ma'am we are no longer serving customers today" despite the "Open" being lit and the hours of operation on the menu stating until 3pm. It was my first time visiting the Albany area and I thought it would be nice to have breakfast at one of the local establishments. This place recieved so many good reviews, I thought I'd be in for a treat - I was wrong. The customer service was barely existent; I almost got up up and walked out. I did notice that many of the reviews spoke about the quality of food and not necessarily the service so I am hoping that the food will be the factor. I don't think I would recommend this place to anyone visiting put of town because I think they'd be disappointed. It's probably fine and okay as a local spot for the locals but that's about it. When I arrived at the restaurant, there was a women shouting obscenities and making vulgar remarks. I don't think this a good scene particularly if you have small children.
