I went to lunch with a friend here and it was terrible. The service was spotty even though the place wasn't crowded but that wasn't the main problem. I ordered fish and chips and the fish was so overfried (There seemed to be no coating so I don't even know if it was really fried or not. It was so overdone that I have no idea.) that it was dry enough to mimic the texture of chicken. The bill for 2 for lunch came to $50! I guess my friend's lunch was "okay" but I ended up spending that for a subpar lunch. At least my dogs got some of the fish for dinner. For that price, I wasn't going to waste it! One that I thought would take 10 - 15 minutes tops ro make, standard for any diner I have been to in the past for a breakfast order, especially because it was on the specials menu. I ordered 2 eggs, over medium. I like some of the yolk to be runny for my toast, but all the white to be cooked solid - don't want the 'snot' consistency that goes with runny eggs. I ordered the special so it came with bacon, a sausage patty and 2 pancakes. I ordered some rye toast for my eggs. 30 plus minutes later, into my second overpriced pint glass of orange/cranberry juice, the food finally came. - The eggs were runny, not 'over medium' as ordered. Totally snotted. - The bacon shattered when I dropped it on my plate (probably deep fried because it was 'bubbly' - not flat so not cooked on a griddle) - The toast was hard and burnt - The waiter never came to check on us and only came back when I called him over to show him the bacon shattering on the plate. He asked me how I wanted the bacon, then. I said, "Not deep fried." Then he asked me if I wanted my bacon, 'More wiggly'? I said, "Sure." He's like, "OK, I will bring you some wiggly bacon." Wiggly f'n bacon? Where the hell was I? He comes back and drops the bacon and runs. It was too f'n 'wiggly' and greasy and I didn't even finish it. We don't see him again. Never came back to see 'how we were doing'. I really could have used an extra napkin. So, I take the toast I ordered up to the waitress at the counter to tell her I am not paying for the extra burnt toast and to ask my waiter to take it off the bill. The bill for the two of us was $60. If you are going to charge prices like that with horrible service, you better have a gourmet chef in the kitchen, which obviously, they do not. Don't go. Best place for breakfast in Delmar, NY. Four Corners is an oddball eatery, but it is usually, on a consistent basis open early for breakfast, then lunch into the late afternoon. It's not a diner but a Luncheonette; which purpose the name does imply itself: breakfast + lunch. The Corners are a yellow building with a small car lot, just to the West of the center of town. It does not have a lot frills, like let's say the silver chrome of other diners, or elaborate plastic covered menus, or juke boxes or lights and music and games. This is a Luncheonette. It cooks mean; I am talking flavor packed, pizzzzzas in your mouth aromas and that great coffee with home-baked baked goods! The menu is a paper leaflet. The old fireplace is painted light blue to display blue skies and clouds. In the back the cooks can be seen chopping and grating, slicing and dicing and nocking out Uber-impressive, very delicious plates, like omelettes, eggs, Benedict's, hashes, fries, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and fruits. As I recall the actual plates were ordinary, but the food displayed on them were carefully assembled and the BLT sandwich that I ordered was dynamite! The waitress gave some recommendation. She was polite. The food was quick, hearty and very much packed with essential herbs, spices and notes. Prices are a few dollars more than at a diner someplace in a very touristy area - but then, this place needs to make some money! Come visit. Have a blast and leave happy and full. This is the first time I have ever felt the need to give a yelp review. I went there this past weekend with 2 other people for breakfast. The staff was less than warm and the price almost made me pass out when I received my bill. Admittedly, I'm not one to look at the prices on the menu when I'm ordering breakfast as how much can it be? However, when I got the bill, I couldn't believe it was for over $72.00 for 3 people to have breakfast. Note: The only drinks we had were 2 cups of coffee. I enjoy coming here. It's got a regular following of locals and for good reason. It's somewhere I can consistently get breakfast that is as good as or better than I make for myself at home. Visited for brunch on 1/2/19. We had a large party and called ahead. When we got there, they had a table arranged for us. It seemed like a nice little place. Cozy. The menu had a lot on it! I decided on French toast and bacon. At some point before the food came, the waiter (manager? owner?) came over and was clearing or delivering something and tipped over my daughter's chocolate milk...all over me (my pants, socks, shirt and jacket). I stayed calm though it was cold and wet and I hate being cold and wet. He said sorry, but then joked about it!! Not just one, but many jokes. Our food came. The bacon was good. The French toast was like cardboard. Thin and chewy. Now, I'm from the area, but have moved away, and was back visiting family for the holidays. We were having brunch before leaving on a 25 hour drive back to Texas. Our stuff was packed. We were ready to get on the road. But now I was soaking wet. The guy who spilled all over me overheard me say something about not living here and the next words he said were, "Oh good, you're not from around here, so I don't have to worry about losing business." SERIOUSLY? I didn't see the bill. My mother grabbed it and went and paid it before I could talk to her about it. Later, I asked if my food had been comped or a discount added. She said no. I completely understand that mistakes and accidents happen. But, I am astonished at this man's attitude. He laughed and joked about it and then had the audacity to say it was good that I didn't live there so he wouldn't lose business. To top it off no discount. Not professional. I liked the look & feel of this spot (converted house with brick fireplace & custom counter glass pastry cabinets) but overall thought it was very pricey for what you get. It felt like a solid 3 stars. Maybe if they paid more attention to coffee refills & dropped price slightly it would bump up to 4 stars. I was craving french toast and I ordered from this place and it was absolutely HORRIBLE. The bread was thin which is fine but they barely let the egg wash soak into the bread. So the bread basically had a touch of cooked egg on the outside and the middle of the bread was completely dry. On top of that, the egg mixture they barely used had no flavor! No cinnamon, no vanilla, or nutmeg. Their potato hash was also awful, dry and over cooked to toughness with no flavor. I torn about how many stars to give the Four Corners Luncheonette... If i could rate separately, I would say the food gets Five Stars! Everything is fresh and delicious, and many of the specials and sandwiches are very creative. The food is why I continue to go back. The service, however, is consistently poor. I say this as someone who goes there 2-3 times per month. The servers are nice people, but the wait to get your order taken is almost always unacceptably long, whether they are busy or not. Yesterday I was there for lunch. We sat for 10 minutes before we were given menus. We gave our drink order and received our drinks, and then waited for another 15 minutes to get our order taken. Then we waited for a full half hour for our food. I was brought the wrong order, which took a few more minutes. My kids also did not get the honey mustard they ordered with their chicken fingers, which happens EVERY TIME we go there. We waited literally 10 more minutes to get the honey mustard. We were out of drink by this time, but the waitress didn't stop at our table long enough for us to order more. I really really want to love the Four Corners, and I really do love their food, but they definitely need to do something about their service. read more

This place would get a better review from me if they served breakfast past 10 a.m. on weekdays, haha. I'm not that crazy about the lunch menu, but their brunch menu is awesome. The omelet choices are creative and done well, and they feature some cool items on their menu like pheasant sausage with cranberry-relish. The weekend brunch is definitely great. The service however, is usually rather terrible. The waitresses are often chatting with one another behind the counter while my coffee cup sits empty, or while I wait an excessively long time for my check. A couple of times I've tried to get the waitperson's attention and I'm pretty sure they blatantly ignored me. A few of the waitresses are also sort of surly and sometimes downright rude. Sometimes they have live music, and while I can appreciate the idea, it's not usually my cup of tea. The last time I was there when a musican was playing, he played an electric piano and sang along with it the instrument's pre-recorded "jazz" beat. Very odd indeed. Also, the other thing that's odd about this place (although not necessarily bad) is that they automatically give you separate checks, whether you ask for them or not. One time I was there with my boyfriend and even though it was just the two of us and we were clearly together, they gave us separate checks. This restaurant is kind of run down in terms of atmosphere, and it is not very comfortable; there are only about a dozen or so tables, so you kind of have to take what you can get, which in my and my in-laws' case was a small booth. We barely fit in it, and we are all generally slender people. On to the food... I ordered a BLT (which was to come with chips & a pickle) and a side of coleslaw. Out came the BLT with just a little cup of coleslaw. There was obviously a miscommunication. I didn't want to have to ask for the other sides I was entitled to so I just ate what I was served. The sandwich itself was very good (how do you mess up a BLT, after all?) For $8, though, the meal was lacking in terms of portion size. I did not pay the bill, so I don't know if I was charged $8 and $3 for the coleslaw, or just $8 (meaning the coleslaw came in lieu of the chips & pickle). I left feeling underwhelmed and that the food was overpriced. I doubt I will be back anytime soon. I can sit more comfortably and eat cheaper (but just as delicious) food at My Place & Co. or even the local diner. read more
