This is a very generic neighborhood diner located at the intersection of 1st Street/4thStreet/Main Street, very close to RCJ. I've driven by here numerous times. My folks have been here for breakfast a while back and they told me it was average, not bad. I decided to check the place out myself for lunch. I walk in and it's seat yourself, so I found an empty booth. The atmosphere inside is pretty relaxed with booths along the front windows, and a L shaped lunch counter with stool seating. Coffee cups are turned upside down at each seat. There was an older waitress taking care of the entire dining room which had 4 other tables occupied by regulars, older folks. She knew the others by first name and knew what they wanted to order. I peruse over the menu which is typical diner fare with breakfast, lunch, and dinner sections, including sandwiches and comfort dishes, but not extensive though. Can Pepsi drinks and desserts such as jello, cakes, and pies served. The prices looked reasonable, items under $10. A cup of ice water was dropped off as I was deciding and I initially asked for Spaghetti & Sausage ($6.75), but the waitress returned quickly and told me that was not available and order something else. So I ordered a Tossed Salad ($3.25) which was a big plate of iceberg, tomatoes, raw onions, shredded carrot, and cups of dressing. For lunch, I had the Chicken Tenders ($5.95) served with fries and cole slaw. The 4.5 tenders were deep fried golden brown with white meat and the fries were okay. The cole slaw was sweet and creamy. As soon as I was all done, the waitress brought over the check, which had a math error, the check was about 75 cents more than it should have been after meals tax. I call over the waitress and she corrects the total. I think I may have been initially charged for the higher priced spaghetti dish, but it was crossed out when I had to change my order. The South Troy Diner is a decent local diner to stop at if you happen to be in the area or have to visit or bail out your peeps at the RCJ, which is not a fun place to be, so stay out of trouble. I would not make a special trip to this very average diner though. Real story: 14 years ago, a Sheriffs Car pulled into my place of work (low paid burger-flipper) and a former coworker had been arrested (not at work) and cuffed up in the backseat headed for RCJ. I did visit the RCJ and arranged for his release through a bondsman. CLOSED on MONDAYS

Spinach and feta omelette With home fries and rye toast. Yummy

My first time here. Had a wonderful spinach and feta omelette with home fries. One of the friendliest places I've ever been to. Even the customers were extremely pleasant to everyone wishing happy Thanksgiving and a merry Christmas. Will definitely go back

Food is never disappointing at this diner. Fast and cheap. The service however is give and take. Sometimes it's good, sometimes not so much. Overall, this is the go to spot for some good breakfast food for the fraction of the price of a chain.

Good local diner. Cheap, clean, honest food at good prices. Short detour from route to VT skiing.

Since that, it went downhill. The server took our drink and food order. I didn't get my coffee without asking twice for it, even though they brought 2 iced lattes that another member of our party ordered. Then we watched for 20 minutes as people that came in multiple parties after us got their food and we had nothing. Then she brought 3 out of 4 meals. My girlfriend ordered the special Raspberry Nutella French Toast. It came with strawberries and we were told, "we're out of raspberries so we substituted strawberries." That is total BS. How about telling us you are out of raspberries and asking if we want something else. My girlfriend can't really eat strawberries since they make her break out. Even worse is I STILL didn't have my food. Server said, "yours is coming, but I didn't want these to get cold." After the rest of my party was halfway done with their breakfast and I still didn't have mine, I asked for a manager. I was told there is no manager there...another load of BS. Server came back and I told her I didn't want my food at this point. She said, "okay, I'll just bring the bill." Are you f'ing kidding me??? You expect us to pay for this crap?? Needless to say, I will NEVER be back to this $hithole. Service is horrible and they will not let you complain to a manager. No manager is there on a busy weekend day? I find that hard to believe. Stay away from this place if you actually want to eat a meal and not just watch everyone around you eat. If you do decide to go, make sure not to sit in Tara's section.

If you own a tv, you've probably seen the commercials featuring the family behind this family-owned business. I did try to go to Alexis years ago. I believe it was on a Sunday morning. There were literally no spaces left in the parking lot so I decided to pass. There are best times to visit. I showed up on a Thursday evening just before 5:30pm. The hostess greeted me and told me that the rush hadn't begun yet. About 7 tables and booths were already filled. That would have kept some businesses plenty busy but Alexis is a big place. It can seat so many more. The parking lot was less than half full. It's clean and bright. A big classic Greek diner. The wait staff and hostesses are friendly and efficient. A server was headed towards me to take my order when my iPhone suddenly rang. She immediately backed away and she returned as soon as the call ended. She was so observant. The menu is massive. If I have a bone to pick it would be over some of the pricing. I love open turkey sandwiches with gravy but it looked as though they were charging more than $17. It would have to be an out-of-this-world turkey sandwich for me to go there. Instead, I ordered a Monte Cristo for about $14. I'd never had that before. Ham, turkey and melted cheese between two slices of French toast. The sides included Cole slaw and a choice of fries or salads. I went with a green salad. It was already a high calorie meal. I asked for their house-made Greek dressing on the side which was awesome. I liked my sandwich a lot, too. I could only finish half, so I took the rest home. As with many diners, there's a big glass display case for desserts. The cakes and pies look amazing. Perhaps someday I can find if they taste as good as they look. But that's for another time. I was so full. Thanks, Alexis.

Working man's Watervliet gem! The kind of place, like Ralph's in Colonie, where the locals eat but don't tell you about because they want to keep it to themselves. Stuck in a Time Warp in the nicest way possible. Red glitter Formica and retro photos of Watervliet history abound. A simple unassuming 24-hour diner on the railroad tracks where everything could go right. And does. For starters, there really is a "Bob" and family waitstaff, warmly welcoming you to their humble establishment. Want your bacon crispy? I always describe mine as "if you dropped it it would shatter". The owner assured me she has a "burn it" button for customers of my ilk. My experience is breakfast for lunch, twice. But, like your typical diner, they have just about everything, anytime. Did she say pierogies? Be still my Polish/Ukrainian heart! But I digress, as I am wont to do. Go ahead. Park your car in the adjacent parking lot and tell me you can't envision Guy Fieri pulling up in his Camaro convertible doing the same.

I've been coming to 76 Diner for years, going back to my college days, and while I don't get over to that part of Latham as often anymore, I still make it a point to stop in a few times each year. I will say a while ago they changed their menus. I used to enjoy the older version with some information about the presidents of the United States. Probably silly of me but I enjoyed reading that and it went along with the '76 name. I'd like to see something similar to that come back on future menus. It's a large place, so there's rarely much of a wait, if any, and the parking lot is big enough that finding a spot is never an issue. On this visit, we were seated quickly, greeted promptly, and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Any time I've been here it's always nice and clean. This time was no exception. Any time I've been in the restroom, it has always been clean as well. The service stood out, our waitress checked in several times to make sure everything was good and see if we needed anything else without being overbearing. Yes, we've been doing this for over fifty years, and once again we were satisfied with our meal as we departed satiated. I ordered the Big Breakfast ($13.49) comprised of two pancakes (instead of one French toast), two eggs, and bacon (instead of either sausage or ham). That's quite reasonable since we paid $9.99 ten years ago. I did opt to add an order of home fries on this visit for an additional 35 cents. My wife decided to have a Create Your Own Omelet ($10.99) with cheddar cheese and spinach (plus an additional 35 cents for that second item in the omelet), served with home fries and toast. Bottomless cup of coffee is $3.99. The pancakes were large and very light and fluffy considering how thick they were. I would have liked them to have been served hotter, which, coincidentally, is what my wife also said about her omelet. But the pancakes were tasty and satisfying. The hashbrowns were a good mix of some soft and some crispy potatoes. The over easy eggs I ordered came out perfect and the bacon was crispy the way I like it. Overall, a pleasant meal that we didn't have to cook at home. Our server was very welcoming and friendly.
