We there for the first time today for lunch with a good friend of mine. We arrived around 11:45 and were seated immediately, waitress provided our drinks as ordered and I stared at the daily special menu which I included. The first thing I noticed was the prices were very reasonable. I finally decided on the Sweet and Sour Chicken which came with soup and desert and my friend ordered the Shrimp Scampi over Rice. A soup was included so I ordered the Chicken Noodle soup and was pleasantly surprised. It was evident that the soup was home made and very tasty. The Sweet and Sour Chicken over Rice was home made also, very good. Desert was Jello with whipped cream. Service was excellent, even though the waitstaff appeared to be extremely busy. Over all its well worth the trip! On a follow up visit a few days later with my granddaughter, we had Chicken Michael and the Seafood Stuffed Haddock. Both were delicious & for desert Rice Pudding. Just went for lunch at this place. Absolutely no vegetarian meals on the menu .. No yogurt. I ask what soup they had... she lists off soup and when i choose split pea, she says oh i'm wrong, we don't have that today. I asked for french onion , she said no we don't. My parents ordered food, club sandwiches... My fathers had hair wrapped around the pickles. We tell the waitress and she says do you want another one? At that point who wants food from a restaurant with hair.. It turned his stomach. I ask for the bill and we were fully charged for everything, no discount no nothing. The place was TERRIBLE. I will never go back to this place ever again. And my father was kind enough to tip the waitress thinking it wasn't her fault. This place absolutely terrible. I was there on Monday morning 2/3/25, and i'm pretty sure my servers name was Janna. She was shorter, she had a pony tail and her hair was longer. She was very disrespectful to me and my husband when we sat at one of her tables. She got my order wrong and did nothing of that nature. I also heard from my brother that she called him a profane name not too long ago as he was on his way out the door because of a tip situation. i love the diner setting there amongst other waitresses. i will avoid sitting with her. My niece and I popped into town to see the Van Gough Immersion exhibition in Schenectady and after reviewing the choices on Yelp for dinner, we agreed to this. Although the website did advertise a "limited Gluten Free menu" when I asked our waitperson, she was not aware of this option outside of salads. I ordered the bowl of Chili and my niece ordered the Bellevue Cafe Burger w/fries. Both were very tasty however, the CHili was a little on the greasy side, but very flavorful. Let's be clear about this, the Bellevue Cafe is absolutely nothing more than it claims to be, a simple place to stop for breakfast and enjoy the offerings of the day. Everything about this place was 'basic greasy spoon', and if you couldn't tell walking in the door it was exceedingly clear from the menu. Speaking of the menu, I can only advise that you order exactly what's on it and not try to get fancy at all. I thought I'd spice up their (excellent) home-fries by asking for some bacon and cheese to be added on top of it. What did I receive? Two to three *slices* of bacon laid on top of a pile of home-fries with a square of cheese melted over it. Was it delicious? You bet it was. Was it ridiculous that they couldn't even attempt to crumble the bacon and sprinkle on some shredded cheese? You bet it was. Ultimately though it gave us all a huge laugh, and we sincerely enjoyed our meals. Just... Keep it simple, ok? They really can't do complicated. read more

We ate here a few times for lunch. A cozy diner, friendly service and a unpretentious menu. Today we ordered homemade lentil soup and chicken salad atop a basic small side salad. The soup came out hot and very tasty. The bread basket with crackers and plastic wrapped slices of white bread. My chicken salad was very bland and unseasoned and I didn't bother to finish it We had breakfast here before and it was good. I had decaf coffee and it was more expensive than regular coffee , 5 cents more, which I never saw on a menu before didn't check the bill so I don't know if that was a typo. Otherwise menu prices reasonable, food plated nicely and food came out hot. Daily specials too. It's a basic diner, perhaps a nice place to stop when in the area but we prefer other diners to this one. read more

Here's what I believe. A diner should be evaluated on the basis of the height of its highs. It's unreasonable to expect a greasy spoon on the edge of Schenectady to knock everything out of the park. For example, on a prior visit, I had the chicken souvlaki salad and did not love it. But thanks to Kelly O. I returned for the breakfast sandwich with home fries. My daughter got the chocolate chip pancake. My wife got the omelet with bacon and cheese with hash browns. Holy Moses. The egg sandwich was fab. The chocolate chip pancakes hit the spot. But that bacon and cheese omelet was a decadent explosion of bacon and melted american, barely constrained by a thin membrane of egg that surrounded the crispy, oozy, smokey, and meaty filling. And that's coming from a guy who typically hates diner omelets. Those crispy hash browns were legit too. Actually, I'm going to have a hard time in the future deciding between hash browns and the home fries. But my hope is that I can convince my wife to return, so the two of us an split one of those omelets. Yes, it's meant for one person. But Bellevue doesn't provide cots to nap after your breakfast. They do have plenty of coffee. Although we had to rush out of the place to make our next appointment, and might not have caffeinated as thoroughly as needed. This is not a fancy place. It's not a perfect place. But after my last experience there, I'm in love with the place. Looking forward to many happy returns, just as long as my cardiologist allows. read more

Went here for a late breakfast today, based on a rec. from a local. Let's start with positives: the coffee was served immediately and replenished regularly. The 3 teen boys also got all the chocolate milf they wished for. The food was served quickly. The negatives: The waitress was beyond rude/short tempered/no people skills, right from the start, literally no people skills whatsoever. We are 3 moms, all super polite, with 3 teen boys, also all super polite. We were easy customers, and we were at the end of breakfast rush. No reason for bad behavior from multiple staff. The egg omelet was literally tasteless, w/ sliced American cheese slapped on top, not melted...ick. I would try another place, seemed like plenty of restaurants in the area when we drove there. read more

I used to love this place, but lately it's gone down hill. I used to love their breakfasts and we used to order at least two or three times a week. That is until two months ago when the food began dropping in quality. Honestly, I don't know why it's so difficult to make a decent breakfast. It's like the simplest thing you can make. So it is inexcusable for home fries to be partly raw. It's unforgivable for eggs to be runny. And it is inexplicable how sausage links can be burnt. Not just once, but every time we've ordered for the past two months. I want to support local businesses but not if my food is not cooked properly. To be fair, the staff is amazing. This is a wonderful old school diner. The service was incredibly friendly, it's clean, and it's busy and fast without a sense of being rushed. I'm not a big breakfast person, but my husband was not into the cereal thing one morning, so we decided to check it out. Despite being busy, we were seated quickly. I ordered a slice of french toast and an egg sandwich with cheese (that came with home fries). The home fries were basic but tasty. The sandwich was the same. There is nothing else I could ask for from that sandwich: the roll was fresh, the egg and cheese perfectly cooked/melted together. My french toast was super tasty; I will surely indulge in more than one slice next time. I appreciated that it wasn't served with butter or syrup already on it as I absolutely detest that and forgot to ask that it be served plain. It was great french toast and I just used some of the regular table syrup. My husband loved his corned beef hash. Apparently they make their own. He was really excited because he was recently disappointed at a trendier/more expensive place. That alone will get my husband back. I love going to the Bellevue Cafe. The staff are usually quite pleasant and quick to fulfill whatever requests or needs I may have. They even are usually quick to point out that something may be on special if I overlook it. For breakfast I would recommend the waffles, although they're usually a simple breakfast item, they're always wonderful, I just wish they had more fruit options, especially raspberry or apples like other diners and restaurants usually have. Their breakfast sandwiches are also wonderful, and I love the large soft bagels. I wish I could find out where they come from. When I go for lunch I usually stick with the soups as they're always the same types, though they're made differently. Such as the chicken noodle, sometimes with the normal small noodles, or even a mix of different types which is always a wonderful change of texture and presentation. (I do have to say though, some days it may be a little over salted). Dinner is where things get a little tough, while the food is always flavorful and the waitresses that work evenings on Monday and Saturday are my favorite. They seem to get along well and obviously enjoy working with each other, which is a pleasure especially in these days. I do have one minor complaint though, I was there not too long ago and a frequent customer was swearing at a young waitress who was trying to get by her. Unfortunately my younger son was there and had to witness it as we were sitting near the tables she was bouncing to and from. It would be nice to see the management stand up to these unruly customers and stick up for their staff, as this was not the first occasion I've seen this lady berate the waitresses. I believe other local establishments have not allowed her to return to their place of business. I have a strong inclination that one of the other reviews happen to mention the same customer I'm talking about. read more

I have been here several times with people from my church after Sunday morning services around lunch time. Despite the frequently jam-packed nature of the place (always a sign that the food is good!), we have never had to wait long for a table(s). I have only ordered their breakfast offerings, as I love a big breakfast. They have a "Hungry Man" breakfast and it is appropriately named. Here, they do it all well: the potatoes are well seasoned, the bacon not over or under cooked, and plenty of starches to go along with my perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. Talk about an awkward meal. My girlfriend and I came here last night (3rd visit). I ordered the meatloaf dinner which comes with soup and salad. When the waitress brought my salad, I noticed there was something in it. We couldn't believe what I found....a finger cot (individual finger glove), unwrapped, in the middle of the salad. I informed the waitress about it and she began laughing and said "I hope you took a picture!" We couldn't believe her response. She did offer to make a new salad but you can't come back from something like that. I was so disgusted I couldn't eat the new salad she brought. I thought they may comp part of our bill or do something for this mistake, but they just brought us the full bill. This review is in regards to the take out service. Ordering for take out is a stressful procedure. When ordering, the person answering sounds stressed and unfriendly probably because they are so busy, plus it is so loud neither person can hear each other. When you pick up, you have to stand in the way of people waiting for tables and servers running around delivering food. There should be a separate area designated for take out customers to pick up orders and a phone used specifically in a quiet area to place orders. Dining in the cafe is great and I would give a five star rating, but eating in is not always an option. read more

Nice small diner, has the feel of a late 50's early 60's era place. As you walk in, you are greeted by the dessert case. Parking can be tricky as it is on a major road, but there is also parking on the other side near a side street. Food was delicious, with prompt service and helpful staff, even if they weren't our waitstaff. My wife and I had two lunch specials that included soup, dessert, and drink and we had leftover food for the next day for under $30 including tip. Can't ask for much better. I had a New Yorker wrap. Contained lots of vegetables, horseradish mayonnaise that had a kick to it, but wasn't over powering. My starter was a salmon rice soup. It came in a bowl, I expected a little cup, but was pleasantly surprised when a bowl showed up. My wife had a chicken cordon bleu sandwich and soup. The sandwich was good sized, chicken moist and tender also. Our desserts were vanilla pudding for my wife and chocolate cake with strawberries for myself. The only complaint here, and it is just my preference mind you, is that there was a lot of whip cream. Bathrooms are clean, neat and hidden. (Not a bad idea.) Also there is free wifi.
