Another day, another diner craving satisfied. I've driven past Metro 7 countless times, but ever since my diner fixation kicked in, my subconscious is on high alert for new spots to try. Loved the cozy vibes inside--the staff was super sweet, and the food came out fast. I have this (bad?) habit of ordering a toasted muffin with coffee at every diner I visit. They had some fun options like pistachio, but I went with the cinnamon muffin, and it did not disappoint. For my main, I got the Monte Cristo--nothing excites my taste buds more than the perfect balance of sweet and savory, and this hit the spot. The portion was huge (hello, leftovers!). The first time I had breakfast at the Metro 7,the eggs Benedict was delicious. The second time, the Eggs Benedict was barely warm and the waitress offered to have them remade. Because the diner was really busy, I just had them reheated. The third, fourth and fifth time was again barely warm,but I chalked it up to another busy weekend visit and decided to try one more time early during a week day (today). We visited this diner recently and was so very dissapointed. The food was very undesirable. Chicken was extremely dry and not much effot was put into the egg sandwhich we ordered....no seasoning or taste to it. Looked pretty much like our meal was thrown together in a quick hurry. We then ordered cake and it was completely stale! The cake was hard as a rock. On a positive note the waitress was very friendly however I would not return here. It's been a minute since we've been to the Metro 7 Diner but I'm so happy we decided to U-turn and stop in there for a quick bite. It was last Friday, when my husband and I were driving home and saw the smoker with aromatic clouds of smoke billowing out. We immediately made a u-turn and ran inside to inquire about the delicious smoked meats we could stuff into our faces. The current meats were being prepped for the weekly Saturday BBQ specials, however, we got lucky as they had some extra from a catering we could get our hands on. I ordered the brisket sandwich and OMG it was so deliciously moist and flavorful. The service is excellent with friendly and attentive staff and the diner itself is comfortable just as a great diner should be. I'm ready to go back on a Saturday and take advantage of the selection of smoked meats and highly recommend you do as well. read more

After an eye doctor appointment, my son wanted a waffle and a quick Yelp search told me a diner resided half a mile away. The staff was so friendly, the food came out quickly, and it was delicious! The vanilla-y aroma emanating from my son's waffle was incredible, and it wasn't greasy from overzealous waffle-iron butter/greasing. The gobbler wrap would've been mediocre EXCEPT it came with gravy for dipping and that gravy was EVERYTHING. We ended up dipping everything else in it too. The menu is Diner Plus - they have some less traditional diner offerings (for example, a couple things with brie...) and the kids menu is a separate menu - full page of lunch/dinner options and a half page of breakfast options! Good coffee in thick-walled diner mugs!! My only complaint is nobody came around to refill our coffee - there seemed to be one waitress for the weekday afternoon, but maybe it's not a bottomless coffee diner?! Is that a thing?! To top it off, when we were leaving, we're informed all kids get a cookie - I'm expecting a little cookie, or a packaged Famous Amos type....Metro7 say nay!!! I love the Metro 7 diner! Omg it is soooo a New York restaurant. Not only is the food spectacular, the service superb, the owner is taking literally a slice of New York himself. He is so animated, he literally is like a character straight out of the television set. He usually wears a white apron basic slacks and a t-shirt. When he first said hello to me I thought he was a bus boy. He's out there in the nitty gritty scooping up dishes taking orders pouring coffee sitting customers etc... Like he's in the place not just running it, but a piece inside the very machine. Honestly it's worth coming here busy just to watch him interact with the customers. Hearing him on the phone telling people "of course we're open! come on down we'll take good care of you!" It really is the motto of this place. This is what the south couldn't replicate. We actually enjoy going to diners. This restaurant is so much more than a diner. The food is fabulous, and it is clearly made to order. For example, the mashed potatoes are clearly homemade! The guacamole is not from a package! The place is spotless! The wait staff is personable and happy to engage with you. My wife is a quadriplegic. Everyone at the Metro was very accommodating to her, and the layout is very handicapped accessible. read more

A decent home-style diner that serves decent portions of classics and bustling ambience. We came here on a recent Sunday morning and the place got busier by the minute. The waitstaff told us she was new and still training so there was a bit of a wait to put our orders in and the slaw and pickle were initially missed with the egg salad sandwich, but I wouldn't hold it against anyone. The egg salad was tops but the slaw was a tad too soupy than I like. The Irish skillet good, mince type corned beef and decent home fries, so overall we were pleased with the experience. Nothing better than breakfast at lunch time in the middle of the week. We finally decided to check out this one-year-old reopened diner. It obviously is popular based upon the number of cars in the parking lot. And, yes, they serve breakfast all day. My wife ordered the French Toast Short Stack with two eggs and bacon ($14.98). The two slices of French Toast did not have much of an egg flavor but placing her side order of eggs on top of the toast rectified that. The three slices of bacon were just crispy enough. I ordered the Apple Walnut Pancakes ($11.99). They were light, fluffy, and large enough that three of them was quite filling. The cinnamon apple and candied walnuts added a nice mix of texture and sweetness. The syrup provided on the side was imitation flavor and adequate. Coffee ($2.99) was average with a refill after I requested one. Service was friendly, professional, and prompt considering the level of customers at lunch time. We waited FOREVER for the old Route 7 Diner to reopen following its sudden closure after the death of the owner, and despite the feeling at times that Metro 7 "opening soon" was some kind of performance art, it turned out to be worth the wait. We've now tried it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and it's a well above-average diner. Did I say diner? This is not really a diner. It's a family-style restaurant with an excellent chef. It keeps restaurant hours, not diner hours, and the menu is judiciously limited in contrast to most diner menus that have so many things on them you need a forklift to turn the pages. These are all good things -- very good things. So far the specialty omelet with brisket in it has been the family favorite -- available only when they have leftover meat from the smoker. Yes, I tried it, even though we're in the mostly-vegetarian school now. But we also enjoyed the variety of vegetarian options, not dominating the menu by any means, but subtly tucked in and available in much more numbers than a regular diner. The home fries are to die for. Pretty much everything on the menu we've tried qualifies as: better than you would expect for Diner food. I had this strange feeling of deja vu eating here -- it reminded me of some other diner I've been to in the area -- and this feeling was resolved upon discovering the place is owned and operated by the same family that had the late and lamented Hillsdale Diner. (The mugs are all from that diner! It's strangely confusing and endearing). I do wish the hours were longer (particularly in the evening, but also the early morning and on weekends and holidays) but I understand the economics of it. This is a traffic corridor, it's probably only profitable to operate during peak traffic hours. The other thing I'm having a lot of trouble getting used to in general is the higher prices -- $15 burgers and $20 and up entrees are difficult to swallow (metaphorically). The equivalent of Denny's Grand Slam (admittedly higher quality) will run you nearly a 50% premium. But having decided it's not a diner but a destination restaurant for when we have a yankering for comfort food, those are the terms on which we will deal with inflation shock moving forward. read more

I'm not sure what type of Canadian bacon was on my benedict, but I wasn't crazy about it. Our excursion to Metro 7 was unplanned. We were driving and I was hungry and Metro was open. The menu is your standard diner menu which means anything is possible. I ended up with French onion soup and an omelette. Honey had a grilled chicken sandwich. My soup was warm and hit the spot in a cool January evening, but it was a little over-greasy. My omelette was cooked to perfection, as was the grilled chicken sandwich. Our waiter was attentive and our food was brought out promptly, but then again the diner was pretty empty. Just went to the Metro seven diner for smoker, Saturdays. I have never had such delicious barbecue in my life. If you like smoke meat go to this man's diner the brisket and the ribs were fall off the bones under and the turkey was the most tender I've ever had The diner is owned by Otto and on this I give him a five star rating. And if you are a burger person, I guarantee you once you find his burger and taste it you won't want to eat another burger ever besides his burger. read more

Our annual Election Day Breakfast/Lunch... We always go out to eat the day we vote to celebrate! The last two years we've gone to early voting and today is the day! After reading all my fellow elitists wonderful reviews DH and I are going to breakfast at the newly reopened, Metro 7 Diner! This place has been around for a long time and I noticed it has new owners and has been completely refurbished. The decor looks to be like retro 60's. It was all new and clean and ready for business. DH and I sat down and were immediately offered coffee with menu's from our server with a tablet to take our orders with. That's not retro that's trendy!! Something new in many up-and-coming restaurants. The coffee was strong served in mugs with local advertising on it... I had to put in lots of cream but was good. I ordered garden omelet with onions, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, and broccoli & Chris our server asked us if I wanted cheese... I agreed. All was very good and al dente. Rye toast and home fries with added onions and peppers were added and made perfectly. $11.59 on menu $14.58 on bill. DH ordered Two eggs with bacon, toast & home fries $10.99 on menu $12.98 on bill. His up-charge was for onions & peppers in the potatoes. The only criticism I have for the whole experience is that the server never mentioned all the up-charge amounts. He was very nonchalant about asking if we wanted cheese or onions not saying there were or what the up-charges would be. When leaving I had a nice conversation with not sure who maybe a cook saying that all the baked goods in the case were made onsite which is nice to know for a later dessert date. All in all we had a delicious meal but felt that for a Diner it was a little pricier then any of the other local Diners in the area. Four Stars for diner dining Early dinner Liked the remodel: colors, lighting and seating. Ordered the Turkey dinner ($17.99) which comes with soup or salad. I ordered it with gravy to side, but it came with gravy. Not something worth complaining about since it was not a huge amount of gravy, and the gravy was okay. The salad was very good. It had nice fresh greens with some spinach, small tomatoes, and slices of cuke. The Turkey was good and sliced slightly thicker than typical diner style. Had to remove a thin layer of fat on edge of slices. The mashed potatoes were salted lightly and tasty. The dressing was bad even by diner standards which are low. It was a square of solid like white bread. No celery and a couple of tiny pieces of carrot. Bland. Not eaten. Saved my calories for dessert. The vegetable I selected was Broccolini, and it was delicious! Very nice vegetable offering. Ordered the Lemon Meringue Pie which was very good. The crust was not soggy or too thick. The lemon filling was perfect. Kudos to the baker. Also ordered was a slice of Blueberry Pie. Crust was good but filling was light on blueberries. It looked and tasted like canned filling but not a quality one. We would like to return for breakfast. Competition in the food industry is always good. Its all about choices. And Latham now has another choice. Metro 7 opened yesterday and if I had known, I would have stopped yesterday. The menu is extensive including greek favs, multiple burger choices, broiled or fried seafoods, salads and more. But, lets not forget breakfast, which is a full page all of its own. I ordered a wrap of roast beef with fried onions, swiss cheese and some Russian dressing, it was was very good. More Russian maybe next time, but I soldiered thru enjoying the tender beef with swiss and onion flavors. It comes with crispy, golden steak fries which were (to me) the highlight of my dish. Sandwiches also come with a tiny bit of cole slaw and a quarter pickle. (Another patron said the potato salad was very good.) SO got the meatloaf and expressed that it was very good. Not a ton of filler in the meat, real mashed potatoes and the veggy side wasn't a frozen medley that was reheated. All in all, I do believe there a a number of items on the menu which will need to be sampled. Obviously, it was very quiet on this rainy evening but I suspect once word gets out their spacious parking lot will be filled to capacity. Wait staff are learning the ropes for this 2 day old establishment but were very attentive and quick to get your beverage or extra napkins. Kudos to the chef. Upon returning from a very disappointing vacation in Las Vegas, I stayed overnight in Albany and enjoyed dinner at the Metro 7. After 7 days of Las Vegas food, this diner provided the best meal of the entire trip. The menu includes a vast array of multi-cultural dishes. The Mediterranean appetizer platter with pita, humus, stuffed grape leaves, olives and sliced veggies was delicious. My broiled seafood platter was wonderful and included either soup or salad. While there was no room for dessert, there were plenty to choose from. Service was attentive but not rushed and the waitress seemed to be enjoying what she was doing. The diner itself is clean, with plenty of seating and overall, very comfortable. I look forward to going back and enjoying another meal here. read more

Nice diner with great diner comfort food. I have stopped in a few times but didn't review until tonight. Got the Yankee pot roast and it was really good. Not exactly what I expected as I expected some root vegetables with it but the beef was very tender and flavorful. Real mashed potatoes and a nice vegetable medley with sugar snap peas, carrots, zukini etc that wasn't overcooked. I remember getting Chicken souvlaki salad in the past and that was very good. Triple decker turkey on rye really good. All the food going by to their tables looks good and diners seem to be enjoying their meals.
