Our server was quick to take our orders and was very nice. Did not take long to get our orders despite it being a lunch rush, and they were able to get us a last minute to go order in perfect time by the end of meal. Ordered the chicken souvlaki, which came with a Greek salad and fries or potato salad. I opted for the potato salad. I was very happy with my food as was everyone else in our party. Always passed by this diner, thought I'd give it a try. Spacious entry way, greeted by a very sweet young lady. Restaurant is very clean. I liked the old time look of the place with juke boxes at each table. My waitress Celeste was so gracious and accommodating . Never saw a glass of juice so small, it was so cute! I'm not one to complain but I had breakfast this morning at the Halfmoon Diner and was surprised at the lack of taste my meal had. There was no seasoning on the breakfast potatoes/home fries or the eggs. I also remember the potatoes having sautéed onions included, there wasn't any in my home fries. The glass of juice which came with the meal has been reduced to maybe 4 oz, it was larger. My sister had pancakes and she was happy with her meal. The service is still great. Very attentive and friendly. Just hoping they improve the egg breakfast. read more

I find the service to be excellent. Friendly staff and knowledgeable regarding the menu. The food is consistently good. I typically order the same thing each time I go. I'm a creature of habit. The desserts are amazing. I love the Lemon Meringue Pie. Reminds me of Freihofer's when I was a kid and the truck would come around. I have never been rushed at Halfmoon Diner. Visiting the area while my mom is in rehab. On the way home I remember this diner from when I used to live here. Decided to give it a try. Ordered a chicken salad sandwich with bacon on rye. Asked for lettuce tomato on the side and coleslaw. It honestly came out pretty quickly and brought it home and it was delicious! Huge serving and I think I'll have lunch for tomorrow. The coleslaw was nice and milky and had a little sweetness to it which I wasn't sure I would like but I loved it! It went great with my black raspberry milkshake I got it Stewart's. Haha. I've been going to Halfmoon Diner for the past year, and the food has always been great--I've never had a problem. However, I was extremely disappointed by my experience during my visit today. As my girlfriend and I were paying for our lovely meal at around 1:58 pm, I overheard two servers making racist remarks about the **federal holiday Juneteenth**, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. A tall, young, blonde white woman was following an older white woman, and they were exchanging inappropriate and offensive comments--saying that Juneteenth shouldn't exist or that it should be "their" holiday instead. Their behavior was highly disrespectful and completely unacceptable. I'm very disappointed, especially considering the otherwise positive experiences I've had at this diner. read more

Lunch at 1:15 pm on a Wednesday. I do not think I have given a review with Two Stars before. So I am thinking: Is it justified? It is. Let me count the ways. I ordered the Wednesday Special of Pot Roast. It was tough, inedible! Please check out my photo! The vegetable was mundane. The salad had past due pieces of lettuce in it. The Italian Wedding Soup was good. This may sound petty, but the one package of crackers served to me was in pieces. When I told the server I could/would not eat the beef, he said I could pick out something else. He never came back to the table! No eye contact. Walked briskly by booth several times. My husband had the Eggs with Virginia Ham Breakfast. He ordered wheat toast but received white bread. The home "fries" were unique in look which was a surprise. The potatoes were sliced thin; they looked and tasted steamed. Bland. The eggs were fine, and the slice of ham was large. $15.49 The server only charged us for the breakfast. Right thing to do. Just when I thought nothing else could be sketchy. The woman at the cash register was having an animated conversation with someone on her ear bud. Rude. No eye contact. Barely mumbled a thank you. We decided we will never return to this diner! Too many negatives including mediocre food, poor service , and bad attitude from server, the older person in charge, and cashier. Sign on jukebox at our booth said Out of Order. The diner seemed out of order. We are regulars at the Blue Ribbon in Schenectady that is a first class diner. Consistent good service and food over the years. Even the desserts in the case at Halfmoon Diner appeared to be inferior in variety and appearance to those at the Blue Ribbon. read more

Visited on a Sunday and the Halfmoon Diner was jammed. Seeing in upwards of 40 people waiting for tables evoked fond memories of my childhood. Thankfully, there were open counter seats. Guy at the front of the house was brusque--at best--but I can't imagine how to manage a crowd like this in 2023 without everyone despising you. Waitress was nice. Service was lightning fast and I was in and out in 20 minutes or less. The menu has good variety and the food, though giving the impression of being slammed together, was pretty good. read more

I've had breakfast here and the food was awesome so I came here for lunch with a couple of friends after a nearby appointment. Lunch was less than memorable. My scallops and shrimp were way overcooked and were like rubber and my fish fillet was swimming and some sort of buttery oily Liquid. The frozen peas and carrots were not edible whatsoever and tasted like they could've had freezer burn. The rice on the other hand was good. I don't think I would ever order seafood here again. The worst breakfast I've ever had. The Eggs Benedict Florentine was slop. Boiled spinach loaded on the English muffin making it soggy, eggs over done, if the Canadian bacon was there, I didn't see it. The hollandaise sauce was terrible. The potatoes were over done. Two years ago when I moved here this place was OK. Typical diner food not over the top but clean friendly service now it's a different story. The food looks totally different. I ordered a salad that was looking like chopped up kale with salty, horrible Caesar dressing and some shrimp and a coin in my salad.. when I pointed it out to the waiter instead of apologizing, he kept insinuating that he couldn't possibly be their fault. We live super close to this gem and do not visit often enough! They are a well established diner located in beautiful Halfmoon. There is usually a wait on Sundays but it is worth it. They are very fair about the waiting time and they have a comfortable waiting area. The waitstaff is phenomenal and efficient. Ordering is a breeze and the food comes out hot, fast and delicious. The waitstaff is very attentive-checking in and refilling your coffee often. I do not want to forget the bus staff-they are super efficient as well. Very clean environment. Halfmoon Diner is just another generic and average diner that does nothing to separate itself from others. There is nothing wrong with that, but I do wish these diners would try harder. With that in mind, I ordered the griddle deluxe with a side of home fries. The griddle deluxe came with three pancakes, one egg, sausage, ham, and bacon. To start, the pancakes were the generic boxed kind and were nothing special. The pancakes were cooked perfectly at least. Next, I ordered the egg over easy and they cooked it right, but a little seasoning would have been nice. Furthermore, the ham wasn't great. It had a weird flavor to it and I didn't like it at all. After that, I tried the bacon and sausage and these were easily the best things here. The bacon was crispy with just the right amount of fat. The sausage was big, juicy, and had excellent taste. I really enjoyed both of these meats. Next, I sampled the home fries and I was incredibly disappointed with them. They were dry, bland, boring, and flavorless. I don't understand why it's so hard for diners to make good home fries. I can make delicious home fries at my house in about ten minutes. With everything that has been said, Halfmoon Diner is just another run of the mill diner, but it is pretty cheap. read more

The food tends to be decent but it's expected considering it's a cheap dinner to eat at. I gave it a three star due to the service. For some reason the times that we have gone, the servers look more and more miserable, barely any communication, won't even come by the table once to see if we need anything when we do, and oddly enough they just stop saying thank you and you're welcome. We've been here a number of times over the last twenty-plus years, typically for breakfast at various hours of the day. Today was no exception. While most everyone else was enjoying a Friday lunch, we had a craving for a tasty, filling breakfast. There was the usual warm welcome and prompt seating followed up by our friendly, humorous server requesting our choice of beverage. Coffee ($1.89 each with unlimited refills) for both of us, please! My wife's craving was for French Toast made from their homemade challah bread. Choosing a combo of 2 slices, 2 eggs, and 2 sausages is a good deal at $10.50. The challah is thick, yet light and airy with a good amount of egg flavor. Too bad they don't offer an option of real maple syrup. My choice was for their Griddle Cakes Deluxe ($9.47) consisting of 3 pancakes, 1 egg, a large slice of ham, 1 sausage, and 2 slices of bacon. Another excellent deal. Both of us were given plenty of butter and those standard containers of "breakfast syrup." All the food was good and it satisfied both of our cravings. Our only disappointment was that the food was no longer hot by the time it got brought to our table. Unrelated observation: It's amazing how many customers leaving the register after paying their bill will choose to NOT use the provided tongs to take a complimentary cookie and will use their fingers instead! read more

The very small cup of flavorless soup came a minute after ordering and the turkey dinner arrived so fast that the soup was only half eaten. It's one of the better diners in the area and seems to still be family run.
