Buffalo Chicken Wrap and a Pancake for lunch @ Halfmoon Diner
    Christian L.

Great diner. Those bad stars are misplaced. It is a real nice shiny silver diner, with people that actually welcome the guests. The food (see pics) was made fast and served hot at the counter! Fluffy pancakes were plenty fat and tasty wraps, too. Fantastic all round diner food in a clean spot! Good for bar hopping: it includes a full service booze and liquor rack. Review: 5+

    Roasted turkey sandwich

Not sure what's happening or this is just how they make it. Ordered a roasted turkey sandwich. Only got turkey and lettuce on the bread no tomato no mayo, not even cheese, dry as can be. Not sure if you're cutting corners or trying to save on cost, but it's a little disappointing and doesn't make you wanna return or order again

Chicken salad with bacon on rye toast

Visiting the area while my mom is in rehab. On the way home I remember this diner from when I used to live here. Decided to give it a try. Ordered a chicken salad sandwich with bacon on rye. Asked for lettuce tomato on the side and coleslaw. It honestly came out pretty quickly and brought it home and it was delicious! Huge serving and I think I'll have lunch for tomorrow. The coleslaw was nice and milky and had a little sweetness to it which I wasn't sure I would like but I loved it! It went great with my black raspberry milkshake I got it Stewart's. Haha. Definitely recommend if you're in the area and it even looks like they have a full bar if you feel like a cocktail.

Lunch at 1:15 pm on a Wednesday. I do not think I have given a review with Two Stars before. So I am thinking: Is it justified? It is. Let me count the ways. I ordered the Wednesday Special of Pot Roast. It was tough, inedible! Please check out my photo! The vegetable was mundane. The salad had past due pieces of lettuce in it. The Italian Wedding Soup was good. This may sound petty, but the one package of crackers served to me was in pieces. When I told the server I could/would not eat the beef, he said I could pick out something else. He never came back to the table! No eye contact. Walked briskly by booth several times. My husband had the Eggs with Virginia Ham Breakfast. He ordered wheat toast but received white bread. The home "fries" were unique in look which was a surprise. The potatoes were sliced thin; they looked and tasted steamed. Bland. The eggs were fine, and the slice of ham was large. $15.49 The server only charged us for the breakfast. Right thing to do. Just when I thought nothing else could be sketchy. The woman at the cash register was having an animated conversation with someone on her ear bud. Rude. No eye contact. Barely mumbled a thank you. We decided we will never return to this diner! Too many negatives including mediocre food, poor service , and bad attitude from server, the older person in charge, and cashier. Sign on jukebox at our booth said Out of Order. The diner seemed out of order. We are regulars at the Blue Ribbon in Schenectady that is a first class diner. Consistent good service and food over the years. Even the desserts in the case at Halfmoon Diner appeared to be inferior in variety and appearance to those at the Blue Ribbon.

    Greek salad, added gyro strips.

Another friend, Pam, had highly recommended Emma Jayne's Restaurant which is only a couple of traffic lights from Trader Joe's - a perfect location for our trip. The restaurant sits just north of Fred the Butcher (next door, literally) for those who frequent that establishment, on Route 9. There is off-street parking. When we arrived at 12:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, the front parking spaces were full. (Note: there may be parking around back; I didn't check) We thought we might have to wait for a table. Wrong! The restaurant is surprisingly spacious with two large rooms furnished with tables that were thoughtful spaced apart. A photo of an adorable young girl, whom we assumed was the dining establishment's namesake, was on the wall. Let me be sure to mention that the ladies room, which smelled faintly of bleach, was spotless. I mean REALLY clean! About the food ... my friend and I shared an appetizer of Fried Calamari. It was an ample portion (took some home) accompanied by sweet chili sauce - a nice change from typical marinara served at other places. However, the calamari was small and overcooked. As a result, what was presented was a plate of small, overly crisp rings of 90% batter. No squid! For our entrees, Barb chose the Chicken Salad Sandwich. She requested that it be served on a pretzel bun (touted as homemade) for which we were hit with an up-charge of $3.50. The chicken salad had grapes and walnuts in it and Barb liked it very much. The up-charged pretzel roll did not appear to be homemade. Very disappointing. Had she known it would be uninspiring, she would have accepted the brioche roll. Macaroni salad - not very exciting - accompanied the sandwich along with a pickle. I love seafood and was torn between ordering the Fish and Chips (halibut) and Lobster Pot Pie (an appetizer). Our server, Drew, gets a gold star for suggesting the second one when I told him I wasn't a big eater. Apparently, the halibut, while highly recommended, is a sizable portion. The pot pie was superb! The rich, creamy sauce was divine. I couldn't eat it all and will enjoy the rest of it for lunch today. Emma Jayne's menu has something for everyone. Our server, Drew, was informative and attentive. While we may make other food choices (skip the calamari and pretzel bun but keep the pot pie), we will definitely return.

I paid over $26 for a New York strip, and it was absolutely terrible. The meat was so tough.... it was like shoe leather. I could barely cut it, even with a steak knife. It was also full of gristle and fat, making it extremely unpleasant to eat. I was starving, so I forced myself to eat mine despite the poor quality. My husband, however, refused to eat his at all, and ended up throwing it away....which was frustrating because we don't believe in wasting money like that. To be fair, the vegetables were good and the fruit was fresh, as usual. But the steak was a complete disappointment and not worth the price at all. Do yourself a favor, skip the steak. If I want a decent steak for takeout in the future, I'll be going to Outback. Cracker Barrel really missed the mark on this one.

We had a small private room upstairs in this historic building with original wide wood floor boards and staircases. It was large so I ate have and took half home. Delicious! I also had the French Onion Soup (along with three others.) Sadly, it was spoiled for me by a completely soft/soggy bread slice (mush) below the cheese top. I quietly removed it from my bowl. However, the broth was flavorful. I remember it being excellent. Reason for 4 stars instead of five. My grandson enjoyed the Shepherd's Pie. Since he is a growing lad, he also had the well made fries. The three salads ordered were excellent. The children enjoyed the toasted cheese sandwich, Mac and cheese, and waffle fries. The Wings were good. The extensive menu is easy to read with a variety of exciting food choices available. It looks like it's now been just over eleven years since that last visit. The bottom line is that this experience was very good. Arriving on a Friday morning at about 9:45 I was meeting family and friends who had arrived at 9 AM. That was the plan. I've always wondered how this IHOP stayed in business because at the hours that I would normally drive by there would seldom be any cars in the parking lot. Today, there were not only about a dozen cars but also two charter busses traveling between Montreal and N.Y.C. Those passengers had finished a buffet that had been set up exclusively for them and were preparing to depart once they all returned from IHOP's restrooms. After joining my table of family and friends, who had just finished their meals, a server asked if I'd like some coffee and if I was interested in seeing a menu. I agreed to both and ordered the Spicy Poblano Eggs Benedict ($15.29) without any side of hashbrowns or fruit. This was abnormally early for me to be having my first meal of the day. Coffee ($3.69) was decent and my food was served promptly. The Benedict was attractive looking. The eggs were nicely poached with running yolks served on top of tender shredded beef, fire-roasted poblano peppers, red bell peppers, chopped serrano peppers, onions, and English muffin halves. The hollandaise sauce was very tasty. Overall, even with all the different types of peppers I did not find the dish spicy. But it was quite flavorful and I enjoyed it. It now remains to be seen how much time will pass before I visit an IHOP again.
