The owners (Pete and Gloria) are very friendly, as are the waitresses, and you can tell they truly care about the people who come in. On several occasions, both owners and waitresses have stopped by the table to make sure everything was good and to chat for a bit. The conversations are always enjoyable and never feel forced. The waitresses know my order by heart which is impressive. You can tell the waitresses really care. They stop by numerous times to make sure you're all set and always offer to warm up and top off your coffee. The food is always good and the portions are generous, so you definitely leave satisfied. There is a really nice ambiance here. It feels comfortable and welcoming, not rushed or impersonal. They also decorate the windows for holidays, and there is a Christmas tree in the front breezeway that they decorate for different holidays throughout the year, which adds a fun and festive touch. Many times I have ended up chatting with other patrons seated near my table, which says a lot about the atmosphere. There are clearly several regulars, and when a place has a loyal customer base like that, they are doing something right. One of the things I appreciate most is that you can go with others, enjoy your food, and have a nice conversation without feeling pressure to leave quickly. That is getting harder to find these days. This place easily earns 5 stars from me.

My family and I have been going to Bellevue Cafe for quite a number of years on a regular basis and they seem to be either using a new food supplier or using a new first time cook, or maybe even a combination of the 2... the food used to taste spactacular and seemed to be of high quality. In the recent months it seems that the overall quality of the food on the menu has dropped significantly and consistently. The chicken tenders used to be what seemed freshly made and tasted great. Lately they seem to be what I can buy in the frozen food section of the nearest gas station. The burgers in the past were large and the best in the area as far as taste and juiciness, lately they've been smaller, drier and either under cooked or overcooked. I used to get the fried haddock or whatever other fish was on special as it was always great, but as of late it tastes like cheap already cooked and then frozen heat-and-serve items. Even the quality of the soups has dropped significantly in the past couple months, which is hard to believe, as it's hard to mess up soup. The only thing going for the place is the waitstaff, most are great but there are a few new faces that seem to be confused in what their job is. Also, on more than a few occasions I have noticed that some of the staff either smell like an ashtray, a brewery or a both which is a TOTAL turn off when ordering and eating food. I'm sad to say, but I will no longer be returning to Bellevue Cafe as a regular customer with my family as the value and the quality of the food has taken a turn for the worse. Not to even mention there is also a lady who seems to be there EVERY time I stop in who is very rude to the staff, as well as customers. I believe her name is either Diana or Diane (not sure what the waitresses said). If she's there, watch out! she'll probably try to sit with you and lure you into conversation and likely order food on your bill. -Mary read more

I've heard a bunch of great things about this establishment on social media, so my family and I decided to stop in for Sunday lunch last week. But, before even entering the diner we could hear a male berating another worker inside what I would assume was the kitchen or back room area. We immediately left as I do NOT want my children to hear language like that. Whom ever was yelling and just being outright nasty should hopefully have been fired immediately. I'm not sure what happened leading up to the outburst of vile language but I can't fathom what could have happened for someone to speak to another human being in that manner. I made this account for the sole purpose of writing this as I feel others should know how this place treats their workers behind the scenes. I will also be posting this to other review webpages in the hope the owner sees it and makes some much needed changes to the toxic work environment. Update: I went there earlier today to pick up some soup by myself and noticed some patrons walking in without masks and they were not turned away. Enter at your own risk and I feel they aren't taking necessary precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus. read more

My mom had a hair appt with my cousin Michael close by today so I picked her up to have lunch at The Bellvue Cafe. She had chicken soup and a Rueben with fries. She raved about all of it. Some of the best chicken soup around imo. The fries were nice and crispy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. I loved seeing her enjoying all of her meal! I had chicken soup and the brisket pot roast. The carrots, onions, celery and taters were all cooked perfectly and not mush. The brisket was so tender I just used my fork. Mom took half her soup and Rueben home as she couldn't finish it all. She did enjoy the rice pudding with whipped cream for dessert too. What an enjoyable day! 10 outta 10!!!! read more

Unfortunately, tonight's experience was very different, and it will be our last visit. My husband and I went for dinner. He ordered breakfast, and I ordered the chopped sirloin steak with mushroom gravy. When my meal arrived, the steak was completely covered in gravy. Once I moved the gravy aside, the meat looked more like a hamburger than a steak. After cutting into it and tasting it, I found the texture extremely odd--like ground beef formed into a steak--and it had virtually no flavor. My husband tasted it as well and agreed. I told our waiter, who looked at it and agreed it appeared unusual. He spoke with the manager and came back telling me the only thing they could offer was a box to take it home. I explained that I didn't want to take home something I wasn't going to eat and asked that they take it back. After waiting about 10 minutes, the manager, Sherry, came to the table. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, she explained that what I ordered was exactly what I received and proceeded to explain what a chopped steak was. I understand now that their chopped steak is essentially ground/chopped beef formed back together and served with gravy. However, that is not what I expected when ordering a "chopped sirloin steak," and I believe the menu should clearly explain how it is prepared. When I said I would not be eating or paying for the entrée, she responded, "But you will pay for the side salad and fries that you ate," and walked away before I could respond. I found her attitude extremely disappointing and unprofessional. The sides weren't impressive either. The salad was very wet and unappetizing, so I gave it to my husband, and the fries were roughly half a potato and tasted greasy. Yet I was charged $6.99 for the salad and $4.19 for the fries. I did speak with Hector afterward and explained what happened. He told me that the waiter, who was new, should have explained exactly what the chopped steak was before I ordered it. I appreciated his acknowledgment because that is exactly how this situation could have been avoided. I would have gladly ordered another entrée and paid for it if the situation had been handled differently. Instead, I was offered a box for a meal I didn't want and then treated poorly when I declined. It's unfortunate because we have enjoyed this diner in the past. But between the misleading description of the entrée and the way my concern was handled by management, we will not be returning.
