Really love this place but they are literally never open. They treat this place like a hobby and not a real business. The inconsistent hours are so irksome and disruptive. I didn't realize this was a vegan coffee shop. Which is fine but I like my coffee drinks with regular milk and not alternative. So I didn't end up getting anything. My son got a matcha and avocado toast. The toast was pretty good. Its made with local sourdough. Not sure why but there seem to be bees and flies, flying around inside the place. I would love to give this place 5 stars. They have amazing juices and I much prefer their smoothies to other shops. Too bad it's never open during its listed hours. And they don't post closings or delayed openings on social media. I think what I find most egregious is they leave their sandwich board on Delaware Avenue up pointing you to come get a juice/smoothie! So many times I have turned and gone down the street figuring surely they wouldn't leave a sandwich board up if they weren't open. It's been closed during business hours 9 times out of the past 12 I've come during business hours since January (it's May). And if you can't keep staff - pay them more- people are willing to pay whatever for a smoothie for you to run a proper business. Or explain what is going on and that you are going to change. But running a business this way- for years - is not going to earn you loyal customers and goodwill in the community. If your looking for breakfast, lunch, or a snack while in the Delmar area stopping in at Rooted & Rind is a must! After getting some recommendations to try it out, we stopped in on a Sunday morning. I did some research ahead of time and checked out their FB page and website. The menu on the website is a bit older and the posted menus have changed but I had my mind set on a sandwich from the older menu. They said it was no problem to make me one which was awesome! To clarify things for all vegetarian/vegan readers, they have real chicken eggs, and JUST plant-based eggs... everything else you see on the menu is plant-based. The cheeses, the amazing looking pastries, the milks (soy, almond, coconut, oat), and all meat substitute sandwich toppings are all vegan. They have a small selection of craft beers, ciders, and hard seltzer. We ordered a coffee, a smoothie, and two breakfast sandwiches. The smoothie was excellent, filled with fresh tasting fruit, juicy mango, ginger, and turmeric. The "Kyle" had a Beyond sausage patty, JUST egg, and pepper Jack cheese with spinach and a spicy aioli. Just off the rail trail we went home to grab out skates and came back in the afternoon to skate from Delmar to Slingerlands then back. When we got there we enjoyed a boozy smoothie with rum and a plant-based vanilla protein and fruit smootie with coconut water. Yes, we stopped by twice in one day! Inside is decorated with tropical plants many of which have clippings being propagated for sale. Definitely drop in, open 7 days a week for from morning to early afternoon R+R is an excellent choice for something healthy or a treat with their variety of smoothies, bowls, sandwiches, wraps, desserts, and drinks. read more

This is a nice find when you are on the trail and perfect since we already walked 3 miles. The place looks nice and I love that they have plants inside. I ordered regular coffee and breakfast sandwich called The Kyle. I didn't realize that the sausage is beyond meat but it tastes good. The garlic ailoa makes the sandwich tasty. If you are looking for a vegetarian cafe with good lattes, here is the place. I went there with my boyfriend. When I first look at the menu, I immediately think that I'm in California. They have all kinds of smoothies, bowls and salad. Their choices of flavoured latte is different from other stores. So, my boyfriend ordered acai bowl and egg&cheese sandwich. He said the bowl is pretty delish. As for me, I ordered the thai crunch salad and lavender latte! It got me excited cos I never found lavender latte here in Albany. All my lavender-drink/ice creams were all in Seattle or San Francisco (again West Coast). I love their lavender latte, though I would prefer to have stronger taste of Lavender. But overall good. Their salad is huge, and definitely makes you full. Their dressing is just okay. I feel that the Acai bowl and lavender latte are the main highlight. read more

I've been twice because I wanted to ensure my review was on point. Prices are high for the portion size, but the flavor is there. Both times I got avo toast, the second time with an added egg. First was great, second was salty, & the egg with pickled onion was not tasty--but that was my choice to add the egg. First time my drink of choice was white chocolate latte which I drank maybe half of then tossed because it tasted odd. This time I chose the chai latte and that was yummy. So glad to have this find right off the bike trail, near my physical therapy office and other suburban haunts. Love that there are plants all over, so cheery. The menu is extensive but be sure to check the handwritten specials. Had to add the crunchy/crispy gingerbread waffle to my avocado toast selection. Both of these were needed to cure my hangover. Wish this was closer to me.... Would order weekly. My omnivore friend had the vegan blt and gave it a thumbs up. The quesadilla was hot and cheesy. New cafe located just off of Delaware Avenue in Delmar (go past the large medical office complex across from CVS). My husband really enjoyed an iced brown sugar latte made with oat milk (only alternative milks are available) that tasted like an oatmeal cookie. I ordered a passionfruit lemonade. It was a touch sour for my taste, but I was able to easily sweeten it to my liking and then it was refreshing and enjoyable -- a great warm weather drink. A chocolate chip cookie we shared was also a great treat. Although I believe the cafe is all vegan, I'd be surprised if the cookie is vegan because I definitely couldn't tell. Get the cookie. You won't regret it. There are lots of smoothies, smoothie bowls, salads, and other options on the menu that look worth returning for. The staff we interacted with were pleasant and friendly. Another thoughtful touch is that the disposable straws and utensils are compostable. The inside of the cafe is filled with lush plants on most available surfaces and along the walls. These plants are available for purchase, and add a lovely brightness and cheeriness to the place. Large windows let in a ton of natural light. Inside, the restroom (unisex) was cute (fun palm leaf wallpaper) and clean. There is no baby diaper changing station, but there is a large dresser type piece of furniture which may be intended for that purpose (?). It looked like there also may be a bathroom accessible directly from outside. There is a good-sized parking lot, too. We sat outside on a paver patio area where there are plenty of chairs and tables for enjoying your drinks and snacks in the fresh air. Rooted and Rind is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I plan to return. Only drawback for me is that the staff were unmasked at the time of my visit. I try to be super cautious, and prefer that food service employees be masked. I love R&R vegan offerings! Their vegan meat & potatoes is excellent, the Thai Crunch Salad is not only delicious but healthy-no excessive salt-mostly veggies, rice & some Thai dressing w/lime -yum! Recently tried the seasonal cranberry/apple grilled cheese sandwich -my new favorite! Oh & just tried the coconut curry soup-wow! My guy loves their vegan chili w/grilled cheese. Usually I get the fresh beet/ginger juice with tomato/basil soup & grilled cheese-reminds me of childhood. The smoothies/bowls are good-I always make alterations because I'm not into protein powders, dried fruit, sweet(I like fruit!). I don't recall the name of the most recent bowl I had(may have been sunshine?) but it was excellent!-pineapple, mango? So good. If you have a flavored coffee, etc & don't like after taste for the non-sugar flavors, make sure you check if your flavoring has sugar or the alternative(don't recall what it is). I always cut down on flavoring to cut the sweet taste(I do that everywhere-not just here). The owner and staff are always helpful even when super busy. Occasionally I get a vegan pastry or a Maine State root beer-excellent. The ambience is lovely-very relaxing-& love the pong pong & corn hole outside in the summers! Indoor/outdoor (covered & not) seating, water bowl for your pups, great parking, really beautiful, relaxing, comfortable eatery offering, IMO, excellent options. I wish I could eat the grilled cheese and tomato soup everyday... and I don't usually like soup. its so so good. Not sure if its the quality of the cheese or bread but I could eat it for every meal. While the grilled cheese has been my fav so far, everything I've had on the menu is great - egg sandwiches, smoothies, coffee, waffles, salads, smoothie bowls, cookies etc. Delmar really needed a place like this. Restaurant had great service and a good atmosphere. I had high hopes after seeing the extensive menu. When I got my food everything was presented nicely, but the food had no flavor, not even salt or pepper which is the bare minimum. I was extremely disappointed especially because the cost of the food wasn't cheap. Overall the restaurant has a lot of potential. However, I personally don't want to pay top dollar for food that has no flavor or seasoning. I really want to like this place but the food I've had there is just bland. I ordered Thai crunch bowl. Looked nothing like the photos shown here. What I got was basically an uninspired salad. Almost all romaine lettuce, a sprinkling of dry, cold rice and a helping of tasteless supermarket tomatos. The tofu was very bland and also very sparse. Dressing was nothing special. I could not detect any "Thai" flavor. My last visit I got their beet bowl ("Rooted") which also lacked flavor. I'm not sure what the problem is with these bowls. the ratio of grains to greens is definitely off and the rice should not be cold. The dressing shouldn't be the only source of flavoring. Roasted pumpkin seeds would be better than raw. And Thai food always has some heat. Sorry I couldn't give this place a better rating; it is super cute. read more
