Went here a lot with my mom as a kid and loved it, had their food again recently, still just as good, if not better.

The food is excellent here, we have gone here for a long time now and I highly recommend it, a lot of seniors go there because of the low prices they have, the waitresses are really friendly and they have a good sense of humor, they have plenty of seats to go around and also have a counter with stools that you can eat at. read more

We attempted to go to Bubbles this evening for a quick dinner at 7:15pm. The sign said to seat ourselves, so we took an empty booth that had not yet been cleaned. I put the dishes on the counter to assist, but did not touch the tip or silverware. We waited 10 minutes with the server never acknowledging us. When she came and took the remaining items, I attempted small talk but didn't get much response. She left again, without saying asking a question or saying she'd be back. We waited another 5 minutes, and walked out the door. It was painfully obvious she was not happy that we sat in her section (by the ice cream window). It seemed like that was enough time for her to say, I'll get you some menus, or something to get the ball rolling. read more

On a 90°F day, ice cream becomes a virtual necessity. I was near Halfmoon NY, hunting an ice cream spot, when I chanced upon Bubbles. A full parking lot is a strong recommendation so I pulled in. Thank goodness I asked a woman leaving what size her enormous cone was ("medium"), so I ordered a small...check the photo! Great cold treat for less than $3? We recently ate at Bubbles and were pleasantly surprised . The food and the staff were both excellent and we were so glad that we had stopped in there for dinner. We will definitely be back again. Kudos to the owners and staff . Don't know how you do it but one of the only restaurants that has not inflated prices out the roof and still gives discounts to Veterans and Military. Great service, great prices, and good food. The waitresses here are super friendly. There always around for refills. The breakfast taste like it was homemade. The service is super fast. I'm impressed by their low prices for the amount of food you get. I can't speak for their ice cream but I'll be swinging by to try them out. Update soon to come. read more

It's been a strange year. Vacations are just not what we would like nor is eating out what we are used to. Our vacation we decided to try out an RV at a nearby campground but didn't want to make a big deal about cooking. where to go? Campground suggested many options, "Bubbles" being one of them. Social distancing and masks were ready to serve customers. This particular day the hurricane/tropical storm were rolling in so I opted for a comfort food of a hot roast beef sandwich. SO had a French dip which he has said was really good. Both meals just seemed larger than expected and hit the spot. As usual though, meal was large enough to put off dessert. Parking is reasonable, servers were personable, prices were good. Since this is a local favorite, we'll just have to return to try the ice cream. read more

Truly, a 'greasy spoon', and not in a good sense. Picked up an order last week. Fries, in the bag, were disgusting. Limp, almost slimy. The outside of the bag, without exaggeration, had droplets of grease that had leached from the fries into the paper of the bag. The entire bag had absorbed grease, not just the area in contact with the fries. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, was packed in flat to-go containers. Ever eat onion soup from an 8x5 flat plastic container? Or even better, ever try to pry the top off a large flat container full of liquid? The Mac and Cheese was on a par with Kraft's best supermarket offering. Too salty, mac was really limp. Overall yucky to eat. Taco bowl salad, same story as the fries. The shell was soaked through with grease, the only crisp areas were right at the top. Promised sour cream and salsa, but never got the sour cream. Not worth the hassle to go back for it. Lest you think that perhaps the grease problems were a result of the food sitting packed for too long, not the case. We were told 20 minutes, got there in about 14, and it was just getting ready, so it was nice and fresh. Home is literally less than 3 minutes away. Limp fries definitely not from sitting around. On the bright side - phone service was excellent, answered quickly, pleasantly, by a person who actually spoke good English, paid attention, repeated the order back as it was given to prevent errors, and was quite friendly. Nice job Susan. Another bright side - the little hot dogs were almost as good as they were 10 years ago, skins snappy to bite into, the sauce excellent, rolls were fresh as always, and they have not shrunk over the years. Not worth an extra star since this is a meal review and not an ice cream review, but their soft ice cream is excellent and very fairly priced. All kidding aside, if you are watching sugar, carbs, or weight, think about ordering one size smaller than you get elsewhere; you will not be disappointed. Prices were high for what we got, but not out of line with other local eateries. Had the food been decent it would have been a fair price to pay. The place has been skidding down the hill for the last 10, 12 years. Covid somehow accelerated the decline. Sad, because the individual people working there range from quite good to absolutely excellent. Obviously, a failure of management. Hopefully some ambitious person with serious restaurant management skills and experience will buy the current owners out. Run properly, the place is a goldmine, and will attract, in addition to the bewilderingly loyal current clientele, people that understand that simple food done to perfection is worth traveling, and paying, for. read more

If you want real wholesome and great tasting diner food this is one of the top 3'places I have been to eat in NY. I travel by car almost 40,000 miles a year and eat at diners and small restaurants probably 200 times a year or more. Then we moved to the Mechanicville area and I was introduced to Bubbles! We eat there often and I have tried at least half the menu. There not a bad order on the list. In my book, this is the best in the Capitol Region! Go and see for yourself! read more

Once a wonderful local restaurant. My wife and I have frequented this restaurant for years, never a complaint. Now something is very wrong, since the new owners took over. Poor food quality, short staffed, with little concern for the customer, or the restaurant's once very good food quality. As a food service consultant, my guess is that the bottom line is suffering and food of lessor quality is being purchased, and wait staff cut to the minimum. This morning I could not even get the one waitresses attention to refill my coffee, or to send back a horrible plate of home fries. My advice, stop working about the bottom line, improve the quality of what you serve and see that customers are attended to quickly and in what was once a friendly manner and the bottom line will improve. Once a twice a week regular, now my wife and I will go elsewhere. read more

Stopped on a whim for breakfast, a mistake. Greek omelette was chopped frozen spinach (left the inside a watery mess) mountain of diced tomatoes and a scant crumble of maybe feta cheese. Home fries echoed sentiments of previous reviewers take on their fries; damp, slimy, and unpleasant. Coffee was as you'd expect, watered down blah. Side of bacon was 3 cooked strips accompanied by 1 strip of rubbery undercooked no thank you. Wish I had checked Yelp first. Hopefully this saves someone $20. read more

Staying near for a show at SPAC and a friend said let's go here. Certainly not one of the five of us were disappointed. Got a big bowl of French onion soup and nicely prepared. Fresh and hot. Next up was the $7 Italian hot sausage sandwich with fries. Fresh bread and quality meat and peppers. Only could take down 1/2, which the other 1/2 was enjoyable later. Bubbles is a popular family restaurant serving homestyle breakfast, lunch, and dinner at affordable prices. They offer the typical breakfast dishes (served all day), sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, appetizers, sides, soups, salads, seafood, steaks, chicken, pork chops, and desserts (cakes, pies, and mostly ice cream treats). The atmosphere inside has a homey diner feel with booth seating, table seating, and lunch counter stool seating. There are pictures of railroad and Mechanicville history on the walls. In the nicer weather, they have an outside ice cream takeout window and covered outdoor seating. I've eaten good breakfasts here quite a bit in the late 1990s when I had to drop my Mom off at work nearby. The omelettes, homefries, and fritata are my breakfast favorites here. Recently, I stopped here for lunch and it's seat yourself, so I sat down at a comfy booth. The lunch counter seats are a bit uncomfortable. I ordered some daily specials including the very smooth and creamy Macaroni & Cheese ($3.75), and Bob's Beef Special ($5.95), which was thinly sliced beef, bacon, Swiss cheese, tomatoes, horseradish, & Russian dressing in grilled rye bread served with crispy and soft fries & pickle. I dipped the fries into the macaroni and cheese and the sandwich was very tasty, good, and buttery. I even saw "Bob" in the kitchen get my order ready. My Wife and I stumbled upon this place by accident after an Estate Sale that was around the corner. on our first visit, i got the cup of chili and a cheeseburger and the wife got the Nachos w/chicken. Both the chili and burger were good, very good. Wife liked her nachos well enough, only problem was the jalapenos they put on there even though she asked for them not to be. No problem, took them off and put them in the chili. Recently, we were to be in the area and decided to have lunch here again. Wife ordered the Nachos again but only with the cheese sauce. I ordered the chicken quesadillas. There is a place back in Texas that I just loved their chicken quesadillas and Bubbles did an excellent job in reminding me of that place. Very good job with them. Imo, this place is an absolute gem. The staff has been courteous and service has been excellent. The Ice Cream and Shake are top notch as well. Will be making return trips in the future. read more

I've been there twice, first time had their special which was beef tenderloin, French onion soup alll which was very tasty. The next time I went I had the special which was stuffed chicken breast and twice backed potato with the French onion soup. This time the soup was not good. It was burnt and should not of been used. Should of been tossed out and not sold. The chicken was chicken Kiev not stuffed chicken. It was ok but I was expecting stuffing. Quite disappointing. Staff is very friendly and sweet. read more
