WHAT BROUGHT ME HERE Located in the heart of downtown Troy, Emry's Garden stood out to me as it sits on the corner of an intersection in direct view of cars passing over the bridge into the city. I decided to eat here in celebration of getting a new job in the city. THE ATMOSPHERE Arriving at 8pm on a Friday night, the whole restaurant was packed. I made reservations so we were seated immediately. There was almost no overhead lighting- instead, most of the restaurant was lit by downward-lighting lamps at each table. Each table had a jar of flowers which added nice color to the environment; it was woodsy, but not in the polished, laminated sense. It felt more natural, cabin-like, combining well with the shrubbery, paintings with big frames, natural lighting from windows, and giant mirrors. The place was small, packed, and loud with people and background music. That's my only minor complaint; it was quite loud from all the people and everything was tight together, and I think the music was good, but would be even better with some more abstract, atmospheric score. This isn't the place to watch the game; there's no TV's. But it is the place to order a fancy cocktail or a Banana Bread Old Fashioned. And there is a bar. THE SERVICE I happened to know our waitress from high school on accident and she was wonderful. We were checked up on frequently, our food arrived fast, and the conversation was enjoyable. THE FOOD I ordered the Mickey's Riggies, a Rigatoni dish in marinara sauce mixed with peppers, chicken, mushroom, and Parmesan cheese. Flawless. My friend & I also got Bavarian Pretzel sticks as our starter and man, that buffalo sauce was good. Costed $60 without tip. THE BATHROOM My design professor once said if you want to understand the personality of a restaurant, check out its bathroom. Well, that didn't really apply to this place. The men's bathroom was a little jank, unlike the great atmosphere of the restaurant itself. It wasn't disgusting, just a little jank. BONUS: THE SPEAKEASY Yes, there's a speakeasy, but you're not going to learn about it on this Yelp review. You should visit it yourself if you get the chance. Dress up. read more

I love this place . I love the space. I love the ambience. I love the music. This is a really chill bar with food that we've been coming to, on and off for a couple years, even before it was Emery's (The Beer Garden)- it's just a great spot. But today we came in for happy hour and had a perfect margarita and an Aperol spritz, which gave me a renewed appreciation for Aperol. I tried Emry's last night for the first time & had a great experience! The drinks were amazing and their wings were some of the best I've ever had. The staff also went above and beyond to make sure I felt safe eating my food due to my celiac disease restrictions. Having a dedicated gluten free fryer is such a green flag!! When my sister saw a entree called Quintessence teriyaki Chicken, she became extremely excited & happy. She explained to me, that this is one of the best dishes she ever had at the restaurant Quintessence in Albany. The server "Liberty" was fantastic as a server! I told her how happy my sis, with this hoping it was like the original entree she had. Liberty said, It is exactly the same because that Chef is here! Very happy sister. She accused us of coming in with a smaller party than originally booked but FAILED to realize we had called twice the two prior days. She continued to argue and raise her voice, while the rest of the staff watched in horror of her behavior. We left I would never support/give business to a loser like her. Ordered the shrimp tacos to share but I think it's good as an entree too since it's quite substantial. Very generous with the ingredients. This place is beautiful inside. It's cozy with nice lighting and lots of plants. We loved it. We came in for drinks and apps and it did not disappoint! The salted vanilla espresso martini is amazing...must try at least one! The sunshine Tina was delicious. It's a large scoop of guacamole with ahi tuna on top and served with fried wonton skins. My boyfriend recently moved to Troy, and I come to visit from New York City. Emry's Garden is a gem and a real asset to the neighborhood. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are always welcoming. The manager, Carl, has such a genuine and friendly way about him, which I really appreciate. That kind of hospitality really stands out. The prices are reasonable, the drink quality is great, and they have a fantastic cocktail menu with a wide variety of options. Their weekday happy hour is also a great bonus, and the outdoor space is wonderful when the weather is nice. The food has been consistently excellent. I've had the pizza, seafood, and pasta, and my boyfriend loves the tacos, pizza, and pasta as well. We always leave satisfied. Upon arrival we were sat immediately with no wait, our server was quick and attentive ensuring we never had to wait for a refill. Food was also served quickly and did not disappoint. For drinks we had the prickly pear margarita and pumpkin spice espresso martini! They were so delicious and refreshing. For dinner my friend had chicken croquettes and I had the burger with a side salad. Both dishes came out hot and fresh, they were both tasty we had no complaints! For dessert we shared a crème brûlée, I had never had this before and it wasn't my favorite. My friend loved it but she loves crème brûlée! Alert: First timer here. A few things to know beforehand. Parking is horrendous; there is No off street parking. Had to parallel park. I didn't see a changing table in the restroom. No high chairs, or at-least we asked for one and one was never delivered. That being said, not really a place for the kids more of an adult outting spot. Saturday night at 6pm showed up, sat right away. We wanted outdoors but we were not able to be accommodated with our request. A little disappointed as it was 80 and sunny. The indoors greets you with a warm welcome, divine presence of fresh flowers, cute little farm style tables and chairs, mostly mismatched and an array of different kinds of plants. We sat by the windows that had Edison lights around. Very cute, but no AC was on and the garage doors open to the outdoor patio needless to say there was no breeze to be felt and it was sweltering in the window seats. The food menu was a decent variety of dishes and additional menu for the pizzas. Pictured is all the menus we were given(food, beer, cocktails and wines). The presentation left something to be desired however the pretzels were very soft and just the right amount of salty crunch, it's served with a cherry beer cheese. The cauliflower bites were deliciously tasty and tender. Chicken sandwich was huge with nice juicy flavor and my favorite served with FRESH CUT fries. Beers ordered were basic, left me a little bitter. Margaritas were flavorful I was told. Our service was pretty mediocre nothing to write home about, nothing was above and beyond. Our highchair never had showed up even though we had asked a hostess for one. The nice thing about this restaurant was that there were different people from all walks of life. Our reservation was for later in the evening so, two of our picks had already been 86ed from the menu. Regardless, the food was well prepared and beautifully presented. Two favorites were the champagne shrimp appetizer and the chicken croquettes. The ambience is very cozy, with many plants, and beautiful lighting. The dining room is rustic meets shabby chic. A well welcomed escape from the uninventive and sterile food chain restaurants that fill the Capital Region. We loved the staff. Our server was incredible, apologizing profusely about the items that were no longer available on the menu. Not at all her fault. She was attentive and incredibly bubbly. They are normally closed on Sunday, but opened for a Mother's Day Brunch. They should have stayed closed. The service was terrible and the kitchen was a disaster. We waited almost 2 hours for our food and when it came out it was not worthy of the wait. The staff and management had no idea what to tell us and kept saying that the food was almost ready. My friends and I came here for dinner and even with a reservation we had to wait a little so I definitely recommend making one if you're trying to go during peak hours. Their cocktails and beers were really good, I definitely recommend the Elderberry mule and poppyseed lemon drop! I also think their pretzel bites are a must have!! They were so soft and delicious especially with cheese, probably one of the best pretzel bites I've ever had. We were huge fans of Quintessence all during it's tenure. We tried the Chicken Teriyaki at Emry's and it is the exact same preparation. We found out the reason is because Donnie is the same chef who worked at Quintessence and he also prepares them for Emry's. And it is always great to see Amy at the hostess station when we walk in. We remembered Amy from her days at Quintessence and now she is a co-owner of Emory's. Others try to imitate, but Emry's Chicken T's are the original deal--- so plump and juicy, the spinach noodles are the same and so is the dressing. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this establishment. We made reservations in advance of our date night. We had added that we would be on a date night in our reservation and we were placed at the cutest corner table with the most comfortable bench seats with tons of pillows. I started out with the Jules drink which was delicious, light and refreshing. We had the mussels as a starter and were blown away at the delicate white wine sauce and perfectly cooked mussels. Them the main entrees. My husband has the Salmon BLT. It was gorgeous with fresh Norwegian salmon, perfectly cooked, maple bacon, 9 grain bread, hand cut fries (GF btw) and a pickle because no BLT is complete without one. I had the short rib ragu pasta. I subbed GF pasta and it was amazing. You would have never known it was GF. It was absolutely divine. The short ribs were perfectly cooked, the red sauce with red wine, carrots, onions and garlic was beyond my expectations. We didn't have room for dessert after all that food but something tells me it would have been equally as delectable. Came for dinner on a Thursday evening. The restaurant had a respectable crowd but I had no problem getting a table, even as a party of one. The ambiance was so calming. I'm a sucker for anything with flowers, so when I saw the lush green dining room I was sold. The lighting is dim, the furniture is wood, and there are plants all around. I was a little worried that it might be too funky, because I've been to botanical coffee houses where it smelled super earthy - I was happy to find that the plants here were aesthetic but had no aroma! This dining room is so adorable. Within seconds of being sat, a member of the waitstaff came to check on me. I always love when restaurants have great teamwork and all floor staff are willing to take care of all guests. Rachel was my server and she was cool as a cucumber despite having multiple tables both inside and outside. I'm always eternally grateful when restaurants put a full bottle of water on the table so that I don't have to ask for refills. I ordered a Pretty in Pink-Cosmo Spritz. As I'd hoped, it was gorgeously jewel-toned and came garnished with a lovely flower. It was STRONG. I could taste the vodka, and was very jolly by the end of my meal. Let's just say, I was relieved my hotel was only a minute away. For my entree I ordered the Sweet Haddock Reuben. I subbed fries for a side salad and my greens were twice the size I'd expected. The sandwich was amazing and I was pleased with my choice. The fish was very lightly breaded, which I was ecstatic about because I'm used to fries with thick batter and was hoping for something a little more lean. The filet was so thick and juice. First experience at Emerys on a Saturday evening. Make sure to park across the street 500 Federal because parking on King is rare. The restaurant was very lively and the bar was full. Lighting is dim plenty of plants and palms and a huge mirrored back wall which helps add volume to the small space. I arrived prompt at 630 my friend 640 fashionably late. Our table was a tiny round next to a freezing garage door! The side of my body facing the exterior door was so chilly. There was an oversized palm directly behind my chair that caught in my hair! So I was forced to slide the tiny table until it was backed up the the chairs of the four top next to us. While I waited for my friend the server greeted me , offered a drink and asked if I wanted to hear the specials to which I replied no TY I would like to wait for my friend to arrive. The server returned minutes later and I am still seated alone. I refused a drink order bc again, I was waiting for my friend. When my friend arrived the server returned and offered the nightly specials but didn't tell us what menu items were unavailable. So after contemplating an appetizer the server explained the restaurant was out of the smoked cheese. We started with tasty pretzel bites served with a small plastic ramekin of spicy cheese sauce. After one pretzel bite our entrees arrived flooding the tiny table. My friend order steak chimichuri with wilted fries and firm Brussels. My salmon and risotto entree was not plated well. About four round cups of oily risotto with salmon atop. My salmon was prepared to order medium and not overcooked. I came here on a Friday night for a friends bday. Will say it was busy. I made a reservation and we waited about 25 min till we were seated (reservation at 7:30 and we sat at 7:55). There isn't really a place to sit and wait so it was kinda awkward to stand around and we felt like we were in the way. I don't think they do anything for birthdays - or at least they didn't bring anything out which is fine but just so people know. They use open table for their reservation which I love. Mine was very good, although a tiny portion of salmon. My husbands short ribs were inedible. You couldn't cut through them! The food was also quite good- I had the Santa Fe salad and it was quite perfect, the perfect size and mix of items and the dressing was perfectly tossed in the salad. My partner got the steak with cornbread and Brussels sprouts- the steak was great but the corn bread and Brussels sprouts were quite bland (both needed some sweet or heat or both, they tasted very plain). The place itself is so pretty, and it will certainly impress your friends and family if you take them here. Even though parking can be a challenge, the beer and food is well worth it. We stopped in for dinner on the 16th of March, I had their Irish Dinner, it was very good! Corned beef, soda bread, carrots and colcannon were all very tasty. The cabbage was a bit bland, but a touch of butter and a dash of salt was all it needed. We made our first visit here to this newly reimagined bar & restaurant in an older reclaimed block across the Green Island Bridge into Troy. This is a mix of older (Brown's Brewing Co., Ryan's Wake) and newer like theTroy Beer Garden. We were here on Sat. 5/13/23 at 5pm for Happy Hour. We were greeted by "Server: Bartender B" who explained their Happy Hour drink & app specials, took our drink orders and brought water & menus. The Happy Hour is only at the bar side of the beer garden. HH is Tue-Sat 4-6pm. The HH specials are $5 house beer, wine, or mixed drink w/ each HH app order. Nice! We opted for for the regular menu so wine was $8.ea & local craft draft beer $7.ea - still a good value. Dinner was a Beer Garden Chopped salad ($15) and catfish tacos ($16). Both good & fresh, just the right size. Next time we are going to try their unique pizza offerings. There is indoor & outdoor seating. There is the Berlin Room upstairs for parties & events. Two things made an immediate impression - all female staff serving team style and there are potted plants everywhere giving the space a tropical feel. Parlor plush seating along front windows is also available. Hours: Tue-Thu restaurant 4-9pm, bat 4-10pm. Fri-Sat restaurant 4-10pm, bar 4pm-12am. Closed Sun-Mon.
