My seitan 'wings' were cooked so well and I loved the presentation along with the vegan blue cheese dressing. Falafel plate was amazing and the three large balls were obviously home made. We live close by however haven't been to Hill Creek since they changed ownership. Brian Kane and Tony Pellegrino playing at the location brought us in to give it a try. The tavern has 2 rooms inside with seating for 15 at the bar. Inside is a combination of high tops and booths. Before we even sat, the server at the hostess stand seemed overwhelmed, even though the back room was nearly empty and most tables in the bar were empty, reserved for later. We had come before 5:30, knowing music started at 6, so it was not busy when we were seated. Then our server seemed overwhelmed from the get go. We ordered water and a couple of beers with an app from the specials menu, street corn dip. A different server brought the appetizer. The dip was good and the chips had a seasoning. We ordered the Brisket Sliders, the brisket was DELICIOUS. Best I've had locally in years. They were delivered by a different server. We finished our food, water and drinks. Sat for over 20 minutes with no contact. We would be a little more forgiving if it wasn't for the fact our waitress was serving a table to our right and never checked on us. We noticed that the servers had tables all over the place. Seemed like no rhyme or reason for table assignments. It got frustrating enough for us to go to the bar and order beers. The bartender Erin delivered us the beers we ordered . A few minutes laterour waitress came by and looked surprised we had drinks. We asked for water and the check. Food was delicious and music was great. Service was horrendous. It's too bad too. Hoping for a great night that turned frustrating. Would we come back? Maybe for takeout. read more

Came for lunch and were quickly seated and attended to. With our friends, we decided to share the three-meat platter date. We got the brisket, ribs, and pulled pork and got sweet potato fries and onion rings for the sides. This food was the perfect amount for a part of 4. The brisket was super soft and everything had the right amount of sauce but extra bbq was given just in case we wanted more! The sweet potato fries... they were phenomenal! Went to the soft opening this evening (prior to the grand opening). Formerly where Brunswick BBQ & Brew was located. They had a great list of beer on tap. A really good menu that is more than just a typical pub menu. In addition to regular wings, they have seitan wings, seared shishito peppers, crab cakes, and you will probably find the owner outside smoking savory BBQ. There is a great bar space inside. Outside is the best though. There are tables out on the patio. An extra large gazebo, and huge lawn area with fire pits! Even though the address is a Troy address, it is actually located in the town of Brunswick. This is so nice when you want a great alternative from being downtown Troy or Albany. Beer good. Pickled Pig hand held, not bad, ask for some extra sauce. Pizza, I asked about fresh mushrooms and jalapeños. Yes they are. Pie was good, but for the price of toppings, you should get more. Skimpy on the shrooms and roasted red peppers, ok with pepperoni. Over all I was satisfied, I'll stop again. There's still interesting things I'd like to give a run. Service was good at the bar, opening time. I was the first in the door. Hill Creek tavern definitely has the potential to be a great place. The food quality is definitely there. The pulled pork was absolutely phenomenal as was the sauce with it. Their menu states that they serve bar pizza howeve it is not bar pizza. It is regular pizza. Bar pizza is small and has a very thin crust and this pizza is very doughy. The beer list is fabulous and the taps lines are really clean. The downside is the decor. The carpets in the back are absolutely filthy and stained. I'm not sure if they've ever been cleaned. I know it costs a lot of money to run a restaurant and purchase a restaurant etc but they should definitely remove that old stained carpet because the place could be quite charming with basic wood floors. read more

Food was delicious! Very nice atmosphere and all wait staff were very welcoming. The only negative I really experienced were the mixed drinks, they were awful. Maybe just the bartender that night but we tried a few different cocktails on their menu and they were all watered down significantly and not very flavorful. I want to take a minute to thank Hill Creek Tavern. Last month we lost a family member suddenly. Hill Creek let us hold his celebration of life there. Christina and Stephen Robinson were longtime customers there. Steven is the one that we had the celebration of life four. Ashley and her staff went above and beyond for my family. They accommodated us in every manner, their graciousness and understanding went above and beyond and we didn't need to ask for anything as they were very attentive to whatever we needed. I would like to personally recognize Ashley as not just a business owner, but as a friend that was there for my family in their time of need. It wasn't just business that night. It was heart and compassion for a family that was dealing with a very terrible loss. The food that was provided was absolutely delicious. As someone who's lived in Texas for twenty six years now, I've gotten to know barbecue. I can honestly say that the pulled pork and the brisket was some of the best I've had. I want everyone to know that Hill Creek Tavern is not just about business it's also about family and friends. We are forever grateful for all that they did. read more

First time there. We liked it. Low key mellow atmosphere - nice family place. The food was very good from the pizza to the pasta to the fish to the ribs. Drinks were tasty as well. Why not 5 stars ? Because our server, although very nice; needed much more training regarding menu knowledge. However, this is an easy fix. Also, they should never let patrons leave without getting their email address for future promotions. All in all, a welcome addition to an area that does not have any place like this. I've since moved from the capital district, but when I'm in town, I make it a point to come here. The food is always amazing, and the staff is so friendly! I like that I can ask questions about the beers and the staff can give an educated response, showing they want me to enjoy my decision. This past week, I got the special of the pork belly, smoked in house. To say I loved it, Is an understatement. I had to control myself from ordering another order! The cheese pizza was soggy and greasey. This was the 3rd time my wife ordered pizza. First two we felt maybe it was the newness. 3rd time struck out also. Pushing food out quickly doesn't help the business. Busy, yes but quality can't suffer. My chicken sandwich was OK but for the price maybe a little more chicken in the sandwich. I could go to chik filet and save half my money. Fries were a bit under cooked. As this place is just a bit over 2 miles away, we really wanted it to be decent food. Looks like I'll drive a bit further to get it. Eating in the dining area is supposed to get you away from the bar area noise, not so when they pipe in the entertainment of the night music. 3 stars is high only because I haven't sampled the whole menu and I probably won't. read more

This restaurant is right down the street from my house so it should be a no-brainer that I go there a lot. I've been there twice in the last few months. The staff overall is extremely friendly and attentive. The ambiance is lovely. The issue with this place is the food. I'm vegan and their menu proudly boats vegan options. I was very excited! The first time I went, they were out of most of the vegan options. The second time I went they had the vegan options but they just didn't taste good. The seitan wasn't tasty and was plain and dry. The cheese on the pizza was not a good consistency or flavor. If they can improve their vegan options, I'd probably return but at this point there is no reason for me to eat there again. read more

Today the family and I went to Hill creek tavern for brunch. Everything was awesome that brisket hash is a bit of artwork. I didn't know whether to eat it or frame it and put it on the wall!! We also started with the wings that house made blue cheese dressing was amazing and as always those wings Smokey and crispy and the Thai peanut sauce makes me happy all over the place you could put that sauce on just about anything and it would make it the best thing you have every had. Great food, great service, reasonable prices - what's not to love? There was so much great looking food on the menu, that I was really having difficulty deciding what I wanted to eat. The delicious odor of bbq wafting through the air from the smoker had me settle on the pulled pork. It was tasty, and the portions were generous. The pizza looked amazing, and that's definitely on the list to try. Can't wait to try the ribs and a burger too. I also had an excellent Michter's Old Fashioned and couldn't believe how reasonable the cost of my drink was.
