Simone's beats some of these fancy ass restaurants. Good prices for the quality you get. There's plenty of healthy and vegetarian choices and other great stuff. A lot of the menu is Mediterranean and Middle Eastern. It has Greek, Italian, Lebanese, and more. There's lots of things for vegetarians. It has fresh made lemonades for about $2, including varieties made with orange blossom. The menu is divided into types of platters. A lot of these are good portions, not too big. It's about $6 for a cup of the Creamy Tomato And Sweet Harissa Soup. Has a not too hot spicy it's to it. The Falafel Snack is a bowl of falafel with tahini and vegetables. Simple but full of flavor. There's also bigger bowls with proteins like chicken, shawarma, and others. Great stuff for pretty great prices to be honest. It's order at the counter, so it's nothing fancy but it's not cheap ass junk either to be sure. Tim Cook, please inform your Apple cartographers that Simone's Kitchen is in Schenectady, not Scotia and while the 200 block of Jay is a pleasant residential neighborhood diners will have much better luck at the corner of Jay and Franklin, directly opposite Schenectady's city hall. With that detour out of the way, I enjoyed my lunch at Simone's. I felt like I was putting something over on the management because while you get one base, one protein etc you can choose multiples of the "salatas" and "garnish". My favorites were the kale tabbouleh, pickled onions and pickled fresno chiles. My quinoa base was well cooked and flavored; falafel as the protein was fine but nothing special. The included pita is small and disappointing. Even though this is "middle Eastern" food it doesn't taste exotic to USA palates; seasonings are very mainstream. But I'm not complaining. I ordered the large bowl at $12ish and didn't come close to finishing it (and I have a healthy appetite); most of the quinoa went home as the base for a future meal. If I worked in downtown Schenectady this would become part of my regular rotation. read more

Clean,delicious&considerate. We had a nice view of the street in downtown Schenectady,wait staff/cooks were mindful of sesame& nut allergies which I didn't expect at this style of restaurant. Tried three entrees- Mediterranean,falafel&goat cheese pizza all good but the bowls were great! We were there at noon& not too noisy though the 20 degree temp likely kept some folk home. First Mediterranean Bowl eating place in upstate NY. Lucky to have it located a few miles from my house on the Jay Street Pedestrian Mall in downtown Schenectady. Eat in or take out, the place is large. Five servers manned the large, organized ,and clean looking serving table to make and customize orders. Many tables were located in the restaurant. Tables at the window would be great for people watching. I posted photos of the menu for you to see the variety. I ordered a Chicken Swarma Bowl for take out. It was fresh and delicious. I was able to select what I wanted in my bowl. No rice. Added chick pea salad. ***The Kale leaf MINT condiment was incredible. Good Flavor punch with the chicken which was tender and flavored nicely. So thrilled to have this place as a Schenectady lunch option. Think Chipotle, but with Mediterranean ingredients and flavors, with suggested options to get you started. (thank goodness... we needed a place to start with the overflow of delicious incredients laid out infront of us!) We each ordered a Mezza bowl of goodness - and I mean GOODNESS, we were "yummmm"ing with every bite - I went with the Greek Meatball and my dining partner chose the Chicken Shawarma. Each of our dishes came with a side of hot pita perfection - so perfect that we each noted we will be ordering an extra side of pita during our next visit. We couldnt pass up the speciality beverages; Orange Blossom Lemonade for me, and Pomegranate-Rose Lemonade for my pal. The rare 5*****! If I could come back tomorrow and have the same meal, maybe I would. Chicken Schwarma bowl- "not spicy"- delicious! Traditional baklava- yum! They are not making the chocolate hazelnut baklava: the seasonal flavor now is pistachio-rose. I tried this, and if it were all they had, I'd order it. But I prefer it the regular way, with walnuts. Taking a slice of blueberry olive oil cake home. My sweetheart had a Mediterranean Burrito and found it very flavorful. There are 3 new meal additions, which will rotate. These are more off a standard dinner plate: a fish with 2 sides- you get the idea. We didn't try them tonight. When we arrived, there were only a few tables occupied. A half hour later: packed and 5 /5 noisy. Industrial chic cement floors and glass mixed with cool music, are not for over 50 y/o conversation. There are tables outside if weather permits. Tzatziki, tahini, and hummus, OH MY! Simone's Kitchen in the Electric City, is buzzing. It's the only Mediterranean Bowl eatery in Upstate New York, so yeah, it's kind of a big deal. This place is Chipotle meets your long lost Cypriot cousin. The food is outstanding, with authentic Mediterranean flavors and fare that will have you feeling just like an influencer on a summer brand deal stay in Mykonos. For my first visit, I ordered a Mezza Bowl with falafel and it was out of this hemisphere, a burst of flavors we don't always see stacked in this NEC of the woods, like: greens, quinoa, falafel, tomato salsa, cucumber salsa, garlic chickpeas, hummus, tzatziki, tahini, beets, olives, and fresh feta! My dining companion ordered the Chicken Shawarma, a big bowl stacked with greens, white rice, Mediterranean-seasoned chicken, lemon potatoes, tomato salsa, kale tabbouleh, cabbage slaw, hummus, and more. I indulged in a Pomegranate Rose Lemonade, and I'm still thinking about that intoxicating sweet-tart combo. We sprung for a side of hummus and it was so creamy and tasty I wanted to jump inside the bowl and take a swim. The only tip I'll leave potential diners with is to order/ask for extra hot pitas. While there are eco-friendly utensils to use, I found myself wishing I had more warm pita to scoop and soak up all the goodness, like a shovel. In closing, I absolutely can't wait to return to this Mediterranean oasis on Jay Street, offering fresh, healthy bites with a twist. Only the third review but I'll start off by saying the parking might cause issues. No place to park for free. With that being said the place itself is very cute with clean lines. Bright and fresh. I found this just like a moe's or chipotle. Not a real fan of those either. It's ok if your into fast food. Got a few things to try. The falafel bowl. It was ok. The Mediterranean bowl. The hummus and kale tabouli . The hummus and tabouli was already packaged for grab and go. The hummus was good, but the kale tabouli was a tad dry. The chicken on the Mediterranean bowl was dry too. It was ok. I'm just not a fan of cafeteria style on line pick and choose dining. Only received one pita for the hummus. The pita were small and not grilled or heated. ( Cheesy. ) read more

Friends of ours (full disclosure: who are related to the owners) recommended this place to us so on date night the family took off for a Mediterranean adventure in the middle of Schenectady. Parking was plentiful in the lot by Jay Street and it was a minute walk to this place. It is located on the end of a small street of quirky and fun shops, and this place fits right in. Upon entering, I was hit with a vibe of "cool meets modern", sort of like a Chipoltes. There was loud music that made it a bit tough to hear but we managed, and everyone (especially the owner) was friendly. Not really knowing what to do, I decided to make my own bowl. I started with a bed of spring greens with flavored rice on top. My protein selection was Greek meatballs (lamb/beef), and then the train went off the rails. They had so many different options to choose from! The next area had several different salsas/salads, but I only picked the cabbage slaw because it was the only one without red onions. Next were garnishes, and I selected hot red peppers, olives, Feta cheese, and maybe something else. Then, there were additional sauces and I went with garlic aioli, their seasonal herb hummus, and something else (buy now, my mind was blown). Next... dressings, and I am pretty such I passed on them all. Finally, mozzarella cheese was sprinkled all over the top. For drinks, I noted that they had two... TWO... different types of lemonade: Pomegranate Rose and Orange Blossom. My wife got the orange so I took the Pomegranate. The cups weren't terribly large, but the lemonade was awesome. As we sat down, I realized that I had a royal Greek mess in my bowl. I dislike the tired cliche "layers of flavor" but that is what this was. It was impossible to get a forkful with everything on it, or even half. Worse, the last couple of additions of sauces (or were they garnishes or dressings?) had blanketed everything in a white color on top. It tasted wonderful, but it made it really tough to find certain things. My herb hummus disappeared in the mix and I only found it by randomly stabbing my fork down. For those who like to mix it all up before eating this poses no problem, but I wanted to experiment and savor the various components and that was impossible as presented. Perhaps next time I will ask for things to be served on the side. For dessert, I succumbed to my kryponite: Baklava. They had two types, regular and pistachio rose, and both found there way back to my table. We liked them both, but I preferred the regular and my wife enjoyed the nuance of the rose. Or maybe the opposite. Honestly, there was so much going on I can't fully remember. We had a great time. It wasn't the cheapest meal around, but there is no way we could replicate it all at our house for less money (I can't even remember what all of it was)! We need to return and I will need to take better notes. But going back should be easier, as they are opening/reopening two new locations soon. I wish them well. read more
