The chicken Parmigiano was good but the sauce was very dry no taste. Also the the bread crust was very hard. The service was good but the tables were a bit too small for dishes and everything else. But then the power went out which didn't help matters.Tables were to close tighter maybe eliminate a couple tables. No return visit for me. read more

Cute place located in the heart of a cute small town, Delmar. First time through Delmar and decided to give Pastina a try. We were glad we did. We sat outside the staff was friendly and on top of service. The food was very good and we will be back. Mangia Pastina's! read more

We loved Pastina! The food was delicious and the service was very good, we would definitely return for a nice evening out. For food, we were served bread and butter initially. The bread was fresh and warm, and I appreciated it was a light bread and not a heavy start to dinner. We ordered two glasses of red wine, to be honest I do not recall the names. I do wish the wine menu had some descriptors, we are not seasoned wine drinkers and would have liked that guidance on the menu. (We could and should have asked our server, but, it was very busy and we just went for it.) We ordered the prosciutto & buratta appetizer ($20) and we knew right away we were in for a great meal. Zero complaints - order it, it was fantastic. My dinner was the chicken francais, served with pasta. The sauce was very good, and I most certainly used my last bit of bread to soak some up. The chicken was well seasoned and a nice portion. My partner had the eggplant parm, and he ate every last bite, so I'd say that was a good meal, too. No prices are posted online, our meals were in the higher end of the $20s range, each. Our wines were $15/glass and I was satisfied with the pours. The service was very good. We felt well attended to and were never waiting, despite how busy it was. Ambiance is my only critique and reason for four stars. It was busy and we were packed into that tiny restaurant. While lovely to see the restaurant well attended, the sound was a bit overwhelming and the tables are too close to one another, you do feel like you are eating with your neighbors. We also experienced, as another reviewer mentioned, a chef slicing the prosciutto fresh in the main restaurant area. It did feel a little strange. We were quite close to him and made eye contact at a point, but he doesn't interact with the guests and I'm not quite sure I understand the point of this awkward interaction. No room in the kitchen? Haha. We were too full for dessert but will be back for a special night out! read more

I had high hopes, but was bummed by the experience. The service was just okay, we waited about 15 minutes for waters and bread, and had to ask another waiter for our check after our meal. To eat, I ordered the Forte which had broccoli rabe which tends to be bitter, but when paired with the right food can be great. My dish tasted like they cooked the broccoli rabe in with the pasta and sausage, because every bite was so bitter I couldn't eat it. There was also more broccoli rabe than there was pasta. My husband had the chicken parm and enjoyed his meal more than me, but his pasta was so overcooked it was falling apart. We were excited to try it because we heard good things, but overall we were disappointed with our experience. read more

So close to 5 stars and highly recommended. Very busy Saturday night. Place was hopping with good marinara vibes. Reservations probably required (more then probably). Even with - we didn't get to the table until 30 min after we got there. Hung out on the front porch... called to and got to table, spent a good 15 min doing the: "I wonder if we can get some bread or drinks?" small talk. All tongue in cheek though because the place was full of delicious decadent smells and happy pasta patrons. Things really picked up after that and I've been thinking about the slurptastic spicy clams for over a week. The veal chop parm has become my future "birthday chop" and potentially other special occasion "chop". I'm not a veal connoisseur, but I'm tempted to become one via multiple/regular Pastina veal parmesan chop feasts. Topped off with some light lemon gelato and I was transported to an Italian villa in Tuscany (Delmar). All said and done - looking forward to the next visit and a slam down of those delicious spicy clams. Save me some veal. read more

The staff is so friendly and the flavors are so good in the dishes. The restaurant is nicely put together and clean. I wish the chicken in the chicken parm was crispier instead of soggy but the flavor is so good. I've been here 3 times since it opened in Delmar and I will go back. Always a nice time! UPDATE: had one of the best dining experiences here last night. Chicken francias are AMAZING and our server was incredible. I think his name was Patrick. Also get the Caesar salad it was the absolute best. read more

The food is good but Friday night (1/3/25) we waited 30 min to get our roasted Brussels sprout appetizer. They were not that busy and two tables seated after us were served before us. Not sure what was going on but our waitress was extremely slow. No longer in Albany, Pastina has relocated to a small spot in Delmar. It's been all the buzz in this little upstate hamlet, and, thus, hard to get a reservation. Well, that, and they are only open 4 days. After finally achieving the seemingly impossible, I got a reservation with a few friends and we eagerly awaited our supposed amazing Italian meal. Upon entering the restaurant, it is obvious that the tables are packed in to maximize the amount of people, and the acoustics are loud. White tablecloths and little candles dress the place up, but also create an air that is serious, and perhaps even snobby. We were seated next to the poor gentleman who had been crammed into the corner with his shiny meat slicer. The poor guy was working hard, as the prosciutto with buratta was apparently a popular dish. We ordered it, and it was good, but it would have been equally satisfying had we not witnessed our prosciutto hitting the slicer first hand. Onto the the meals. Decent. Yeah, they were decent, but nothing more. Well, actually there is something more. A lot more. The price. The place is expensive! Chicken parm is $27.04. I don't know what you get for the extra 4 cents. The service was slow, which surprised me, because 1) the place isn't that big, and 2) when you're paying 27 dollars and 4 cents for chicken parm, you expect impeccable service. My takeaways are: Not sure what the appeal is. Crowded and loud. Overpriced. Trying hard to be an "exclusive" restaurant without exclusive food, service, or ambiance. read more

I cannot believe it has been around for 18 months and I had not heard of this place. A hidden gem. The menu is limited and the service outstanding. The food is delicious. It's tiny like the Italian restaurants in NYC so reservations are recommended. We noticed quite a bit of takeout orders. Since we are not good at planning ahead, that might be the way to go for us from now on when we have a craving for some good Italian meals! read more

My favorite restaurant! The Chicken Francaise is my favorite, I get it every time. They make it so good!! The portions are perfect. The calamari and burrata ravioli are delicious appetizers. The tiramisu is also so yummy! I love sitting outside when we can. Make a reservation, we once couldn't be seated without one, but it was a Saturday so that was our mistake. My son cooks at an Italian restaurant near Pastina. I've eaten at his place many times but, as someone who dines out frequently, I'm always looking for good places I don't know. So I asked him if he had been any new places that were great. He suggested Pastina and my wife and I went. Simply, the place is great. Classic stuff eve with a few red sauce dishes. Menu changes with what's avIlable. The chef is a star. Knows his stuff and executes carefully and lovingly There are damn few downsides -- the place is small, maybe 24 seats - so reservations are a good idea though can be hard to get. Second, no liquor/wine service but a nearby liquor store can solve that. I prefer to bring wine from home Anyway go here. Just don't freeze me out of a reservation read more

One of the best meals we've had in a LONG time. The ambiance is cozy, happy, thriving and still leaves room to have conversation at your table. Service is A+++ - wine list is superb and the FOOD...Chef's kiss. Delicious food and good desserts. Server was very pleasant. Pastina will do very well in Delmar I am sure. One comment: Make sure you tell the server that you are paying cash for your meal 'ahead of time' so that she will give you the 4% back after receiving your bill. Just left a dinner party at Pastina's. What a delight! Have never been to this restaurant before but I most definitely will again. Lovely ambience, pleasant staff and the spread of dishes served was amazing! Caesar salad had an authentically flavorful dressing with delicious crushed croutons and grated Parmesan cheese. The veal Marsala was exquisite with fresh mushrooms and the most tender veal medallions you can imagine. The crispy brussel sprouts were excellent. Rather than smothering the chicken parm with mozzarella, the chef carefully spread just the right amount allowing the flavorful tomato sauce to be appreciated. We had the pleasure of enjoying the Zuppa di Pesce as well. Extraordinary! The desserts were scrumptious, to put an end to an incredible meal. So pleased to have had this experience and look forward to sharing it with friends in the future. read more

Great food and service but benches/banquet seating is hard wood and very uncomfortable. Chicken Marsala was excellent as was chicken piccata. The restaurant was 3/4 filled and was so loud and in need of more than existing noise abatement, that we left. Good food but very uncomfortable experience in seating and noise level. Won't go back except maybe takeout. There are too many other great Italian restaurants with good service and more comfortable ambiance. read more

Pastina is the nicest new Italian Restaurant to grace the culinary landscape of the capitol region. It's situated in a remodled, unpretentious space on Colin Avenue with less than a dozen tables. I'm of real Italian decent and have high standards when it comes to Italian food. Just can't go back for seconds unless it's the best and I will definitely be visiting Pastina on a regular basis. The wife and I tried out a veal and a seafood dish on our first visit and both were excellent. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The owner stopped by to say hello and the dinner was a nice experience. This place hits the mark and comes with the highest recommendation. read more

Incredible from beginning to end. I had four courses, and each was better than the last. The service is extremely friendly and I immediately felt welcome. That's an impressive feat considering I've been locked in my house alone for over a year. I think my table manners have degenerated to those of a five year old. A five year old Tasmanian devil. Try the trofie with broccoli rabe, the bitterness of the greens matches perfectly with the richness of the sauce it's enrobed in. I am going to be returning to Pastina as often as I can, and I hope they're around for a long, long time. So go there and eat you hungry savages. read more

We ate at Pastina twice in Albany and folks have been raving about it since the move to Delmar. I have to give it mixed reviews. We ate at 5 pm on a Thursday. Every table and the bar were occupied. It was so loud that we couldn't even hear each other at our table of 4. I haven't seen a lot of complaints about the noise which surprised us since it was a major irritant. The next less than ideal item was the bread. The "italian" bread was basically equivalent to what you might get at Walmart..not at all what you would expect from a high end restaurant. Loved the caesar salad..definitely enough for 2 and the calmari and spicy clams appetizers and steak main course were very good. The veal marsala was so so and my husband said some of the fish in his zuppa de pesce was overcooked (for $50 he should have sent it back). With a bottle of wine and 3 okay desserts plus tip we spent almost $400. It says on the menu that dinnertime is limited to 2 hours and at 7 pm people were crowding to get in. Its my opinion, obviously not shared by many others, that they are overpriced, especially given the uneven quality and the noise... read more
