First of all our server was the best! She has only been working there a few weeks but she was fabulous. I didn't feel like Italian food so I ordered steak. It was one of the best sirloins I have ever had. So much flavor. My other favorite thing, the potato skin on my baked potato was seasoned. I am one to eat every bite of my baked potato and it was heavenly. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and none of us eat rich desserts so we brought fruit. They kept it in the back for us and came out singing Happy Birthday. Two of my friends had the scallops and said they were fresh and delicious. Everything was wonderful. This is definitely a place to visit for sure. Order the sirloin at least once! You will not be disappointed. read more

Valente's is a family friendly restaurant. We dined at Valente's New Year's Eve, they offered a prime rib special that my husband was looking forward to. Valente's 20 oz. Prime rib was everything he was hoping for. It was a generous 20 oz portion, served on its own plate and arrived exactly as ordered: medium rare. I dined on the salmon: a hearty portion cooked to perfection and just the right amount of seasoning to enhance the salmon's flavor. We both opted for potatoes and steamed spinach as our sides and warm bread and dinner salads with thousand island dressing accompanied our meals, each course was exceptional ! Valente's had been chosen by friends as the location for a remembrance luncheon after morning ceremonies at a nearby cemetery. It had been decades since I'd last eaten here and I had no recollection of an impression left by the food or service. In fact, I believe the building had burned down and been rebuilt since that last visit. Our group consisted of 20 people and an earlier group of about 16 had arrived before us. A staff of two, I believe, efficiently handled all of us, one party after the other. I give them and the kitchen staff credit for their ability to fulfill orders chosen from the entire lunch menu in a reasonable amount of time. My wife had a Reuben, and I ordered an Open Hot Sausage sandwich. She said her Reuben was salty as expected, more so from the sauerkraut, but better than the last one she had elsewhere. It was large enough for her to bring half home to finish later. My open-faced sandwich was mostly a visual surprise. I expected the sausage and Italian bread to be smothered in sauce. The bread was barely touched by the sauce and most of the plate was covered by potato chips. Visually I was quite disappointed. However, my next thought was, well at least I'm less likely to end up with sauce in my lap! But the bread was fresh, and both the sausage and sauce were flavorful. I left pleased. read more

Recently went to Valentes. I ordered chicken piccata. It came out as chicken strips. Was told by owners wife that if I read the menu it stated so. Unfortunately, I was going off the menu online. I never looked at the menu in the restaurant. I was told by restaurants owners wife it's been that way for years. Seriously, years but you have yet to change the online menu. Lol. The attitude the server Jonathan portrayed was beyond acceptable. I not only grew up with the original owner but two of his sons are personal friends of mine. Also, our salad was literally swimming in blue cheese dressing that was to the point of disgusting. My response from the owners wife was less athan apologetic. The food is delicious and the portion size is large for the price. The issue I had is, we called in an order and upon pickup, the order couldn't be found. The man behind the bar, said he was too busy to look for the order and then asked me move away from the bar so that people could sit at the bar. Just because we weren't being served at the restaurant, doesn't mean we weren't paying customers. This isn't the way to treat paying customers! read more

I'll admit...I went in with relatively low expectations due to several 1 and 2 star yelp reviews. We have friends that love this place..2 of them are regulars that live nearby, so they go almost weekly. Service was super friendly and efficient...perhaps because we were with our "regular" friends. Portons, as expected, are gigantic. Mine was the most reasonably sized of everything on the table: broiled salmon with a side of rigatoni. I'm the only one that was able to finish my dinner; everyone else took home pounds of leftovers. My salmon was cooked perfectly without being over spiced. The pasta was very good and I liked the red sauce-dark and rich. Everyone at the table (there were 6 of us) enjoyed their choices (chicken/fettuccine Alfredo, and a few other chicken dishes that at I don't remember the names of). The food at Valencia's is terrific - generous portions and always beautifully prepared . The service at the evening hours is also five stars - like the food. However, I've been there a few times in the late morning to mid-afternoon and there's a young man who's the waiter and the service was atrocious each time . I was at Valente's for a privately catered dinner. I have to say that I was blown away by how good everything was. It is an older establishment in Watervliet that I have heard of but never tried. I found the staff to be welcoming and the overall feel was inviting. As if you were eating in an old fashioned home.We were a very large crowd in a private room. The wait staff did their best to fill drink orders but you could also head to the bar in front if you were inclined. The chafing dishes that were set up buffet style was very organized. The huge antipasto salad was delicious and had just the right amount of vinaigrette. I loved the chicken parmigiana which had a nice amount of sauce and cheese but was not soggy. The fried fish which I almost bypassed was cooked perfectly. I also appreciated seeing the tartar and cocktail sauce on the side as well. The sausage and peppers weren't mushy and so so tasty. I also enjoyed the broccoli pasta Alfredo as well as the hot crusty bread to soak up the sauce. I oftentimes find buffet style food very mediocre. It's hard for anything to taste as good as individually made entrees when it's served in volume. However, Valente's has it nailed and the food is absolutely wonderful. Italian comfort food at its best. I would no doubt have a private party here and will be back very soon for dinner! This is definitely a neighborhood gem and I highly recommend. read more

The food was fine (except for the long strand of hair in my soup), but the service was slow. Due to that, we felt we tipped fairly. As we proceeded to leave, our waiter stopped us and asked if everything was okay. When we said yes, he proceeded to glance back at the check and say, "Are you sure?". We said yes again. He then looked at the check, scoffed at us and walked away. My family has been going here for decades. We've always loved the service and the owner. Beautiful experience! Took my wife and two daughters to Valente's before going to a symphony in Troy. We were met with a warm welcome and brought to our reserved table. At first the place was 30% full but soon filled to the max. We all had different types of meals, an appetizer and drinks. The food was amazing and the portions were incredibly large. We all took a box home to savor a second time. The service was impressive. Our waiter was spot on and always attentive and available. We were treated as warmly leaving as we were when we arrived. Highly recommend this restaurant for their Italian cuisine. We will be back and let all our friends and family know. They have been around since 1953 and I know why. Enjoy! read more

Bah humbug. If you like a nasty attitude by a specific grinch, then this is your place! I've been stopping at Valente's Restaurant over the years and the food here has been pretty good as well as the service by their dedicated waitstaff. In the past, I've also used Entertainment Book coupons for buy one entree get one free (up to $14), whether I dined solo or brought my Dad with me. I actually liked this restaurant for many years. However, the NYS Tax & Finance Dept had to intervene (Google it) earlier in 2018 to collect late business taxes from this restaurant. I stopped in recently late in the evening after driving over three hours. I was very hungry and tired and needed a good Italian meal. I entered the restaurant/bar just after 10PM on a Friday. I asked if they were still serving food and they were and I could sit anywhere I liked. I was given a menu and ordered an ice water with lemon. I perused through the menu, in which the prices in the actual menu are slightly higher than posted on their website as another Yelper noted. I also had an Entertainment coupon with me and presented it to my waitress before placing a food order. The waitress tells me she will check and the hostess (owner's wife) shows up at my table and tells me she will not accept this coupon at all because I was solo. She refused to honor the coupon altogether and tells me no takeout of second entree at all. "Shocked" (this is a first refusal of an Entertainment coupon in the Albany area in many years/the last place (Kabuki in Latham) that refused it is now out of business) and not in the mood to argue, I said I was all set, finished my water, left a buck tip on the table for the ice water, and calmly walked out. I decided to go out for a pizza instead, which was probably what I should have done before making a special detour to Watervliet. I will mention that another Italian restaurant in the Capital District, Cafe Calabria in Guilderland also accepts Entertainment coupons and they always gladly honor it ($20 off) when I am by myself. They give me two salads, fresh baked bread, and serve both entrees at the same time and happily pack up the extra food. The server is smiling because I always tip at least on the price of two entrees with tax included too, double tip money for the waitress! I can no longer recommend Valente's Restaurant as long as the"nasty" attitude is in charge of this establishment. The waitress and the male host were cool. I was already in a bad mood after a long drive and this place made things worse. I wanted to eat at a locally owned restaurant, but if they refuse to honor the coupon and wanted me to pay full price. Scorch the Earth! The corporate national chain pizza places and restaurants will gladly take my business instead and accept coupons too! If this business is not going to honor Entertainment Book coupons (they have an Entertainment sticker on their door), then put a note on the door saying so. Finally found a great Italian place with outstanding authentic yet with a Valente classic or specialty flair. Everything on the menu looked great, and I got it down to the Lobster Mac and Cheese, the Pork Belly Mac and Cheese, A 2 Pork Chop specialty, and the Veal Scaloppine Marsala. Decided on the Pork Chop after help from the waiter. Everyone else's order looked envious, especially the linguine and clam sauce. The bread is homemade and fresh baked, the soup is excellent, and the special martini's on the bulletin board all sounded great. Service is quick but not rushed, portions are good sized but tasty enough that somehow most everyone finished them off, the vintage wood booths around the sides give a comfortable old world feel. Lots of parking, but it was nearly full on a Wednesday night. Lots more to try on the menu, and I will be back! read more

I have not been here physically yet, but my wife, who was dining with friends brought me home a veal parmigan dinner. It came with a gigantic piece of veal, a healthy portion of penne, a small salad, a delicious piece of crusty bread. Let me describe my meal: the bread was delicious. It was even better when dipped in the little container of their excellent sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly and wasn't over sauced. My veal... My enormous veal cutlet.. was absolutely perfect. Breaded perfectly. Cooked perfectly and, per my request, no cheese. I love mozzarella, but I like my veal cutlet sans cheese or sauce so I can taste the breading. I love that crunch. They have been really on point lately. I got pizza and wings delivered a few weeks ago and it was quick and blazing hot. A few days later my dad and I went to the restaurant for a quick bite. I tried something different. The Calamari marinara. Tons of deliciously fresh calamari and too much pasta for even me to finish that night, so i had to take it home. I love their italian dressing and carrot cake also. My favorite dish there is the Chicken Cacciatore Marsala. The sauce is just amazing and haven't found this dish anywhere else. And if they have the macaroni and cheese as a special, try that. Its won the Mac & Cheese bowl the last 2 years and its no wonder why. read more

At $22 and $24 each, I was expecting something better than what we were given. Soup was good. The veal and chicken cutlets that comprised our entrees were either overcooked or the frying oil needed to be changed because the breading was just starting to be burned and tasted off. Sauce was acidic and husband's pasta was overcooked. We ate a few bites and took the rest home hoping it would be better as leftovers. It's not and they're now in the trash. Service was friendly and attentive. One app, 2 mediocre (at best) entrees and 1 draft beer was absolutely not worth the $70 before tip. We used a Groupon that brought our bill down to $54 and it still wasn't worth it. Having eaten there a number of times years ago and enjoyed it, this was big disappointment. It's a REAL neighborhood Italian restaurant that will NEVER be trendy, just the way I like it - friendly, simple, and the food is mostly tasty. Warnings: The only salad dressing that isn't industrial is their house Italian, the bread has little flavor, the bar hosts mostly bar brands, there is no wine list, and though the wine pours are generous and the price is $, the quality is negative 3 Michelin Stars. Avoid the clam sauce, it is really that bad. That said, this place is cozy, boisterous and busy, good for families and big appetites. Romantics should go elsewhere. Straightforward soups or salad are served before oversize servings, and they are said to make a mean Tiramisu, but I'm always too full for dessert. I want to start off by saying that I have been going to valentes my entire life im a lifelong Watervliet resident. I LOVED THIS PLACE!! About a m9nth ago I ordered a $35 steak(awful) used to be absolutely delicious! My wings discusting,raw my lobster mac( where is the lobster) you filthy slimeball bastards!! Over $100 and I was starving . I didn't complain about that...TONIGHT another $96 lobster Mac again no lobster. Also was the wrong size so when I call, Johnathan, tells me that I paid $ 39 for this little 2 scoop rinkydink lobster Mac with no lobster and that's OK with him apparently the price fluctuates with the market....Fine, how about a phone call to say do you still want what you ordered that now cost $57 or do you want two scoops for $39?? To much work for ya?? Then, shrimp scampi is supposed to come over pasta. Didn't get that we were informed after that if you get 2 sides that takes the place of the pasta. Would have been nice to know that!!!! Everything else we ordered was ALSO AWFUL!! WHAT A TRAINWRECK OF A PLACE!!!
